  1. Truth. I've heard a lot of people are temporarily unsubscribing to your channel to avoid the temptation of spoilers. I'm not among them, since I think/hope I can resist the temptation and I would probably totally forget to resubscribe once I owned the game which would suck and I know you wouldn't be an ass about spoiler titles, but I just think it's interesting what people will do to avoid spoilers.
  2. (inb4 "with plenty of alcohol") Just curious how people are handling the year-long wait between the Japanese release of Fire Emblem if/Fates and the western release. I, personally, am just trying to avoid another Awakening, where I sadly knew the best spoilers beforehand.
  3. Texas, the state where Roy is everyone's boy. (There's a joke that every Project M player in Texas if not every PM player ever has a pocket Roy. Probably thanks to Sethlon. Yes, I fulfill that stereotype.)
  4. Been a member since... *checks* Holy shit, 5 June 2013? My two-year anniversary is apparently coming up! (Legit surprise. I thought for sure I joined in the summer of 2014.) I remember making an account to post about something I don't remember (probably something stupid) and didn't do anything else until October 2014 to talk about Lucina vs. Marth in Smash 3DS. Even then, I didn't get really into this whole 'forum' dealie until less than a week ago. More than a year of inactivity really makes it feel weird that I've had an account for longer than many of you, since I feel like way more of a noob more often than not. In any case, I don't regret it for one second! I love Fire Emblem, and Serenes Forest was basically made for me. :) (Also, why did I make my username "Quan of Leonster"? I don't even remember. I know I was super into FE4 back then, but why Quan? He's not even my favorite character from that game... Ah well. No regrets.)
  5. Seems like we've established that in Camus vs. Seth, Caeda wins. Seth for me. Camus can die in FE12, Seth can't in FE8 (as in he just retreats).
  6. Well, people already complain about Marth's disjoint and range, imagine if it was as long as a lance. At least it'd be nerfed to all hell by the next installment The best characters in Gaiden are Alm, Celica, and the Whitewings. So Judah (the main bad guy besides Duma himself) or Valbar (who made it onto the cover art somehow) would be the best choices for the hypothetical fourth slot.
  7. Whoa whoa whoa. Isn't that all still just assumption and guesswork by this point?
  8. - I have pretty much the full library of "system sellers" for the 3DS (Link Between Worlds, Smash 4, etc.), and Awakening trumps them all by a significant margin. I spent an entire summer saving up for a 3DS and that game, and don't regret any of it for one second. - Not a single game in the franchise has a good final boss fight. Not even Radiant Dawn. - Awakening is awesome, but has some serious wasted potential. The SpotPass characters' Support repertoires is the biggest one, I think. (Why can't Emmeryn support with her siblings? Why can't Yen'fay support with Say'ri? Gangrel and Emmeryn? Walhart and Basilio?) Interactions with and between DLC characters is another one. At least it makes nice tinder for fanfiction. - I recognize all of FE8's flaws, and understand that other games may be objectively better in certain regards, but FE8 still stands on top for me. It knocked my socks off too hard as a kid. - Unsurprisingly, I've beaten FE8 more than any other game in the series, and possibly any game ever? No wait that's Portal - I'm fine with explicitly stated incest (Arvis/Deirdre, Manga!Eldigan/Raquesis), but claims of implicit incest is my button, especially regarding Ephraim and Eirika. That's my childhood you're messing with, dammit. - I played the European version of FE7 first, forever ruining my first experience with the game because that version sucks. ('Biran'? Seriously?) I'll pick it back up on the American Wii U VC, but it won't be the same... - I've played every game in the series except the first one... but I haven't beaten 2, 3, or 5. In 5's case, I don't know if I ever will, but I'll try at least. I also haven't ever finished Hector's story, but, well, see above. - I'm fine with Archers (no worse than any other unit). The worst class in every game without exception is the Armor Knight. (Edit: Well, there is Gilliam...) - I used Leonardo, Edward, and Nolan in Part 4 Endgame because I couldn't stand not using their legendary weapons. (Leonardo was still in a second-tier class at the time.) I also didn't use any Laguz Royals because I was more attached to Ranulf and had invested tons of EXP in him. -I always look forward to new games with an idealistic eye. I have high hopes for SMTxFE and FE14... especially if they manage to make Armors useful for once.
  9. I'd like to be able to say it doesn't matter to me, but it does. I'd be elated at the change of pace, and especially impressed if they pull it off well. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  10. I like to hold the naive belief that the series is always moving forward in terms of greatness, so Kamui for me. I liked Robin and Kris while they lasted. Goodnight, sweet princ(ess)es.
  11. Defending Hector going Nohr: look at his disdain for his responsibilities as prince of Ostia (i.e. family stuff). He'd much rather be with friends, like Eliwood, instead of relying on family ties. Chrom would go Hoshido because he's all about family: his two sisters are among the most important characters in the plot, as well as the most important characters to him. He also claims that Robin is family to him. Also because who would give up the world map I mean come on Then again, he wasn't on the best terms with his father... Hm. Sigurd would be Nohr (his undying loyalty to the crown gives me that vibe) while Seliph would be Hoshido (because rebels vs. evil empire, amirite?).
  12. Yeah, but you really have to Wade through Lotz of them to get to the Grey(t) ones.
  13. Winner. Seriously though, Eirika was Emmeryn before it was cool. She only snaps when a shaman threatens the lives of a helpless family, while Eliwood loses his temper with Queen Bern over a political matter. Splitting hairs (though admittedly, very fine hairs), Eirika wins.
  14. Huh. I was absolutely expecting a definitive no. Hype restored.
  15. How flexible, exactly, is this engine? The video showed some solid FE3-style gameplay, but can it handle the complexities from later on in the series, like Rescue, Supports, or even really crazy stuff like Pair Up?
  16. Ahhh... you've got me there. FEXNA is pretty cool... I guess I could say 'non-GBA-style,' then? :) (not that I don't love the GBA games to death)
  17. So I don't have any good puns, Sumi-a.
  18. This is the coolest thing I've heard of in a long time. If this all works out, I will be a very happy camper. Being able to make custom FE-style games outside of ROM hacking (or making a new engine myself) would be like sliced bread, if the bread is on fire and being chased by ninjas. And the ninjas are all on fire too. Oh, and Kaga's project will no doubt be awesome. He hasn't failed me yet.
  19. That's absolutely true, and Sigurd in general is a better unit than Alm (not counting range, in which case Alm has the advantage). I was referring to comparative badassery, and Alm definitely outclasses the rest of his party in Gaiden, with his only competition really being the Peg Knights, but they're only in Celica's party until the final battle unless you do some revival shenanigans. Meanwhile, Sigurd competes with powerhouses like Quan, Lewyn and Ayra, all amazing units in their own right, for the title of "Ultimate Badass of FE4"TM. Whichever one really answers the question is up to the original poster, I guess?
  20. This guy knows. Alm is awesome, since he can carry his whole team, unlike Celica who basically just mooches off the Triangle Attack until she gets actual magic. In terms of absolutely outclassing the rest of the party, Alm's got to win, since even in FE4 gen 1 there are some good characters to back up Sigurd, while Alm is fighting a lonely battle as far into Gaiden as chapter 4. Meanwhile Seliph has a full army of badasses to help him out, and don't get me started on RD and Awakening. I don't know why everyone's making a fuss about Hector. He has serious flaws, and FE7 has much better characters than him. It's probably just cause he's so much better than Eliwood and Lyn, but still. In summation, Gonzales for best lord. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  21. Really wanna test that now, but I wanna lay off Smash for a little while. I've already put 40+ hours into it and I only got it on Friday.
  22. I looked for something like that for a while before posting. Guess I looked in the wrong places. And still, the tipper seems like more of a disadvantage than anything.
  23. As I'm sure many of us have, I've been playing a lot of Smash for 3DS, especially with the four Fire Emblem characters. Gotta say it's great, and they're all fun. Except... I think I'm missing something with Marth. So, I know the main difference between Marth and Lucina is that Marth does more damage at the tip of his sword and less damage on the rest of it, while Lucina's damage is a balanced middle along the entire blade. My first thought was "oh, so Lucina is a kind of skill-gate character. You play as her to get used to the mechanics, but Marth will be better since he takes more skill to use." I thought the tipper was enough to make Marth the superior character. Except, in practice, it isn't; at least in my experience so far. Because Lucina's sword is balanced throughout, she doesn't have to rely on keeping the enemy a certain distance away. As long as her sword can touch them, it will do solid damage. This means that she actually has a useful up-smash, unlike Marth's, which is completely useless unless you land the tipper (which is more trouble than it's worth, and you should probably up-tilt instead). Also, Marth's sword has been shortened even more since Brawl, which itself had shortened it from Melee. I'm pretty sure it's shorter than Link's sword now. Lucina's Falchion is of the same length, but if you have to get that much closer to hit someone, it's easier to just close the distance and attack than closing the distance while also worrying about landing the tipper. And the tipper itself. In Melee, the tipper was much easier to land, and was integral to his attacks. In Brawl, the tipper was made significantly smaller and much harder to land, which continues into SSB4. This was fine and dandy in Brawl, but now he has a clone who is better off without the tipper. (And he doesn't have chaingrabs anymore, but that's beside the point.) Ironically, I can't help but compare Marth to Roy. Roy 'sucked' because he had a poor sweetspot on his weapon, and sourspotting his attacks would hit like a wet noodle. Marth is the same way in this game. If you don't land that precise tipper, that forward-smash isn't doing anything. Meanwhile, Lucina's forward-smash is amazing, and can kill at medium percentages. Not to mention how both characters have the revamped Shield Breaker, which is basically the same thing in case their forward-smash is stale. Except Marth's Shield Breaker runs into the same problem as his up-smash: gotta land that tipper, bro. Stabbing is not Marth's strong suit. So I'd deduced most of this while playing, but then a thought occurred to me. The two Falchions deal different damages, but what about knockback? From what I've been able to determine since then, I've found that they are pretty much exactly the same. That is, Lucina's knockback isn't distributed throughout her sword; rather, it's identical to Marth's Falchion. An example is both character's down-aerials. I had assumed that Marth was the only one with a meteor smash, since you had to land the tipper for that to work and Lucina, well, didn't have one of those. I had also tried to land a meteor with Lucina several times and failed, but apparently those failures were just me sucking at the game, because I now know that her dair does, in fact, have a meteor smash at the tip. It seems to be just as powerful, too. I basically dropped my 3DS at this point, completely dumbfounded. What does Marth have that Lucina doesn't? Lucina appears to be superior in practically every way to Marth, with his only advantage being that little tipper. I posit that question to anyone reading this: am I missing something with Marth? Does he have some other advantage I don't know about? I hope the great Marth doesn't have to step down from his consistent place in the upper echelons of the tier lists. TL;DR: What's so great about Marth compared to Lucina? Thanks for the reply.
