  1. Actually he has a point. You leave 2 enemies alive that would've otherwise died to the forge, who get to move 2 extra turns and are both physic healed. The time to make the forge is easily less than that. By the way, you're still making the same execution mistakes as before in your most recent video. I'm hoping that's only because this is a testrun and you're being lazy. Even if that's the case, it's definitely worthwhile getting used to d-pad movement, especially for straightaway movement (ie fully left, right, up or down).
  2. In the video both generals attack Ike from below. If one attacks from below and the other attacks from the left/right, Ike should still have a clear path to the throne. In fact, he’ll have a clear path so long as they don’t position above and to his left, respectively. Can you elaborate on this? According to this map, the trigger for the CRK is rather far (the green line).
  3. Planning Chapter 4: How come you drop an iron axe instead of an iron lance? You do it again when the boss drops a javelin. You mention needing it for chapter 6, why is the iron lance better there? WTA on the lone myrmidon she faces? Chapter 5: Since Gatrie’s animation is so slow, perhaps have Shinon kill the soldier and Rhys takes away his bow to disarm him? Chapter 7: You triggered the arrival of Gatrie on turn 1, which is bad considering Gatrie’s attacks are slow as molasses. It’s better to delay that event so Titania can take care of the enemies near Gatrie. See here for a map that shows the reinforcement lines. Chapter 9: Titania finished with 2 hp with plenty of enemies left to attack her, so this strat is too risky for single segment. You’ll need to heal her somewhere, even if it means losing a player phase attack. I also recommend you look at the rescue chain strat used in the TAS since I’m pretty sure you can save a turn even with Marcia’s recruitment. Chapter 10: Surely there must be a way to efficiently stealth this chapter without waiting out the first few turns? Chapter 12: BEXP Ike to 20 and he should be able to double & ORKO the ravens with the laguzslayer Chapter 13: Do you have to send Astrid so far away from the enemies? Best to move the least distance just out of enemy range. Chapter 14: How come you didn’t use the 2 turn strat? Chapter 16: Shouldn’t you wait to get enough BEXP to make Marcia lv 20 in one shot or do you desperately need the extra point of strength right away? Chapter 19: As I said before, try out Krad's 1 turn strategy. After having watched it I’m almost certain 1 turning is faster. Chapter 20: I assume Calill would’ve finished the boss with a siege tome had Marcia not crit? Chapter 21: It’s probably faster to kill the 3 soldiers who chase down Tanith than to leave them alive. And can’t you disarm Ike on the 2nd to last turn?
  4. Double posting to separate my execution and planning comments since they're both quite long. Execution Prologue: Do what dondon said: d-pad right then 1UL on the first move, d-pad left then 1U on the second. Chapter 1: On turn 2 you can take the cursor off Oscar and press X to go to Ike, who is only 1 square away from Titania. Chapter 2: Once you’re done with the initial combat, put whoever X-switches to Titania next to Ike. That way at the beginning of each turn you can move the cursor 1 space + press X and go immediately to Titania. Chapter 4: I’d probably double X switch to Titania instead of a manual switch. Chapter 5: Press Z + up + A to end turn instead of A + up + A. This way you don’t have to take the cursor off Ike each turn. Chapter 6: After Titania kills the archer, do d-pad down then 1UR on the canto. On the turn where Titania attacks the boss you can hold the analog stick down then 1U to efficiently reach the boss. Now when you actually target the boss, test pressing d-pad + each of the 4 directions to see if you can target him with one d-pad press. Normally it’s faster and more reliable to target with the d-pad than the analog stick. You need to be faster on your weapon drops. Chapter 7: Again you’re missing opportunities to take the cursor off a character and press X to switch to Ike, who is 1 space away from the unit you wanted to move (in this case, Boyd). On turn 2 you can simply end Rhys’ movement so that you could directly X-switch from Oscar to Titania (presumably). On turn 3 you should be able to X-switch to Titania, manually switching over that great a distance is never ideal. Chapter 8: At 1:10 you can move Titania d-pad left + d-pad down. In general, you’re not taking advantage of movement boundaries to use d-pad moves when they’re the better choice. I recommend you watch my GBA cursor movement tutorial since I talk about that at great length. On the turn where Titania attacks the archer, it’s probably best not to hold B since holding B is very tricky on movement that is 3 squares or less, and usually costs more time than normal movement due to having to correct the space the cursor lands on. Chapter 11: You can hold B when re-positioning units. I’m pretty sure you can also select empty slots like in Radiant Dawn. Chapter 12: Drop the coin the turn after you receive it to prevent your inventory from getting clogged. Chapter 13: Reposition Oscar and Marcia instead of the other way around. This way the cursor’s already on Oscar when you reposition him again. You might’ve made similar mistakes on your next repositions, hard to tell without booting up the game myself and testing it out. At 5:32 I’m almost certain Marcia would move to the right place by holding d-pad right then d-pad up-right. Chapter 14: Reposition Mist and Volke instead of vice versa. I think you could hold B when repositioning here too since the units you’re moving are decently far apart. Oh, and apparently you can avoid laguz transformation animations by holding A, if someone didn’t mention that already. On Marcia’s first move I’d probably do d-pad up then 2DL. Chapter 16: I believe you can skip the door open animation by hitting start. Chapter 17-3: I noticed you had a 1 use javelin left, probably best to drop it after its uses dry up to free up inventory space. Chapter 18: Your base is too damn tricky, look to simplify it. One change I’d probably make is have Ike give all then take back his steel forge. This way it makes it easier for him to take all his stat boosters. Reposition empty slot & Reyson instead of Reyson & empty slot. Chapter 22: You really need to work on your repositioning. Same principle as always: If you can switch two characters, always start with the one you have to move again so that the cursor remains on them after the reposition. --- So in general, your movement is quite good, although I recommend you work on the following: 1) Use the d-pad more often. I'm not sure if you used the d-pad at all in fact. Taking advantage of movement boundaries is paramount in optimizing movement. 2) Get used to taking the cursor off a character and pressing X to switch back to Ike. I call these "off-switches". 3) Z + up + A, not A + up + A to end turns 4) Optimize your repositioning
  5. I suppose my ragequit highlights deserve some explanation :O The Ultimate Ragequit I dropped Eirika on a turn I was supposed to simply equip a javelin, which ruined my run 40 mins in. I was only this upset because this was after 8+ hours of playing. The Ultimate Ragequit 2 I forgot to give Ilyana items in 1-E during a race, which forced me to restart from the beginning, costing me over an hour. NONONO In another race Ike died in 3-4 because of a ballista crit that put him in critical hp. I've been BEXPing Ike to lv 20 in this chapter ever since. Oh, I guess while I'm at it I can share a couple other things I've been working on. Sacred Stones Eir route speedrun in 1:17:31 Sacred Stones Eph route speedrun in 1:14:42 Both these times are single segment and a significant improvement on the SDA segmented time of 1:37:56 from back in 2006. I'm also pretty sure this is the first time Ephraim mode's ever been speedrun before. The reason I could bring my time this low is due to RNG planning, which basically amounts to planning out every last move in the game to attain the same RNG outcome every single time. This is greatly facilitated by saving and resetting after each chapter, which both resets the RNG and allows you to re-do a chapter if you make a mistake rather than having to re-do the whole run. Now I could also do FE6 and 7 this way, but I don't enjoy speedrunning this way because getting the same RNG outcome each time gets boring after a while. It was still fun to see FE8 pushed to its limits in real-time though. Sacred Stones Eph route TAS WIP (goal: sub 1 hour) Ever since I learned that Ephraim route was significantly faster than Eirika route due to being able to 3 turn the phantom ship with the control enemy glitch, I've thought it was possible to make a TAS of Sacred Stones with a time under 1 hour. I've already saved 1 minute in the first 5 chapters, although I've largely lost interest in this project since it eats up a lot of time and nobody was showing much interest aside from another FE TASer (Toothache). I guess it's worth mentioning that GBA FE speedruns now use the torch glitch, which is a variant of the control enemy glitch where you gain control of the enemy by resetting when an enemy "greys out" on a tile that you used the torch staff on. It's very easy to execute and very fun to use even in casual play.
  6. Radiant Dawn Easy Mode Single Segment in 2:59:29 2:53:06 I've been working on this for a while and finally managed to beat Radiant Dawn in less than 3 hours, something I previously thought was utterly insane and impossible. For the time being I only have a twitch recording, although eventually I'll get a better time with raw footage I can upload to youtube and send to SDA when I get a better recording setup. Granted this is all done on easy mode, but going from 91 segments to 1 and saving over 13 minutes is still ridiculous and I'm easily more proud of this than my outdated segmented run. I plan to work on a hard mode single segment run now, although I might wait a couple weeks since I need a break from the game. P.S. Be sure to turn down your volume before the Ashera crit because I scream out in victory for a while.
  7. I've only looked at your most recent video so far but why don't you use the 1 turn strat for C19? Did you time the shove train to take more time than having to wait through an enemy phase? Also, in reply to some things dondon wrote on page one: It’s better to leave autocursor on for the consistency of having the cursor always start on Ike at the beginning of every turn. It makes planning much easier when optimizing X-switches. It doesn’t. I know that if you hold start in Radiant Dawn you skip the yellow triangle pointer that shows up over a unit’s head before they attack, and mashing any of start, A and Z skips exp bars and phase messages, but that’s about it. --- I'll have a look at the rest of your videos when I have the time.
  8. You're forgetting that in a TAS, it's trivial to manipulate player phase crits. Getting multiple enemy phase crits on an enemy phase is possible as well, although a lot more challenging to achieve. Now if Neph is being raised for just chapter 25, that's ludicrous and obviously a mistake. Nephenee bases: 22 hp, 8 str, 10 skl, 11 spd, 9 def Largo bases: 52 hp, 21 str, 21 skl, 20 spd, 10 def You have to invest about 10 levels and a promotion into Neph to get her to match Largo's offensive stats. Unless C25 maniac is so utterly insane that you absolutely need javelin wrath, I just don't see how this pays off at all. By the way, there's a new FE5 TAS with a time of 55:47 that seems properly optimized from what I could tell. I'd put that on youtube except it's very boring to watch after a while since each chapter is either a warpskip, or Leaf moving across the map in 1 turn (with the help of Lara) or both. The TAS Balzerak linked aims for SSS so it's probably not meant to be optimized for time anyway.
  9. But then he's losing time having to BEXP Nephenee, as well as her fighting C11 enemies that could otherwise be spared. Then it takes time to actually set up wrath if Neph gets too durable (notice +2 def in 3 levels), and seeing wrath activate on each attack eats up time as well. If he's training Neph just for C25, I guarantee he's better off using someone like Calill/Tauroneo/Largo since he's going to have to train Neph even further just for her to get her stats on par with those units' bases. Where else would a low movement attacker come in useful in a TAS? C18 reinforcements?
  10. His answer: 怒りのスキルが強いからです 日本語ですいません Google translate: I'm sorry in Japanese skill of anger is because strong I think he means he's using her because of wrath?
  11. Her wrath doesn't matter much because a forged slim lance will have 100% crit, although you're limited to 1 per chapter at most. If he wants another combat unit for a rout map, why not train a cavalier or better yet, use a pre-promote like Calill or Largo?
  12. New WIP released today. I need someone to write "Why are you raising Nephenee?" in Japanese.
  13. That was my first thought but then it occurred to me that I'd have to change the "selected" parameter for all 43 chapter pages, which would be a real pain. That's why I'm hoping there's a way it could be done automatically with javascript. Edit: 3rd update below in the spoiler tags. Changed the background image to make the text easier to read and I'm pretty happy with how the menus turned out.
  14. Haha, fireemblemspeedruns.com cost me 10$. I imagine a halfway decent LTC link would cost the same. I'm kinda curious why fireemblem.com doesn't even have a site though, you'd think that domain would've been snatched a long time ago. Yeah no worries, part of the idea behind the site is making this all very accessible to newcomers. Think explaining everything in such a way that it's "so easy a caveman can do it", without being condescending about it or anything. The twitch video I made a while back was lazy and mostly geared towards sylux, the guy running Sacred Stones at AGDQ. I'm not sure what you mean? What I had in mind was to write up some javascript where if(condition) then set the appropriate list ids (eg/ part 3 & 3-6) as selected . In the meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how to make equally spaced out horizontal tabs. There's 2 approaches to horizontal tabs apparently: making the list an inline element or floating left, both of which carry some irritating quirks to work around.
  15. I can integrate that into the site or make a parent site (fireemblemltc.com or something similar), sure. I want to be very thorough with this, there will be a whole section dedicated to explaining RNG manipulation with accompanying videos, for instance.
  16. Did some more work. I'm pretty happy with the page layout, although I still have to integrate some menus, which will take some time to figure out since they will involve some javascript. Basically I want a "chapter menu" that says | part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | and a menu underneath listing the correspond part chapters. So if you click part 2, underneath it will show a menu saying 2-P | 2-1 | 2-2 | 2-3 | 2-E, when you click part 3 that menu will vanish and show a listing of all the part 3 chapters. I also want the menu to default onto the correct chapter based on the page selected. So if I were on the page for chapter 3-6, the menu for part 3 and the one for 3-6 would be highlighted in some way. One thing I've been noticing is that float:left; is an annoying command to deal with since it shrinks the box containing the element to effectively 0 height. The best way I've found to deal with this is to use overflow:hidden in the containing div element. I've also noticed that spacing elements based on percentages is not worth it most of the time, unless it's something like width:100%; to fill up an entire div element. Once I get the menus finished I can use this template to very quickly come up with the remaining 42 chapters. I still have to make index.html and consider what other sections I'd want to incorporate. I am concerned that having two pictures in the background of each page will eat up a lot of bandwidth. Should I be re-saving my png images as jpgs, for instance? Edit: Oh yeah, the extra space on the right is actually meant for the left menu I took out of the page. The spacing works out fine when I re-introduce the left menu's code.
  17. I'm trying to make a website from scratch devoted to fire emblem speedrunning & TASing. I've already bought the domain name fireemblemspeedruns.com and spent a while trying to come up with a template for a random page on the site. A very, VERY early draft of the site design is shown below: The source code is included in the attachments. I was hoping someone with more website design experience could help me out since I have very little idea what I'm doing beyond the basics and actually applying css properly seems to take a lot of getting used to. It would also be amazing if anyone could photoshop some cool background images, banners, etc. I'll give them full credit, of course. So right now my main problem is spacing out all my div elements. Using stuff like float:left and clear:both is spotty at best, and I always have trouble coming up with menus, especially horizontal ones, which I'll need later. Any tips for that? fireemblemspeedruns.com v3.zip
  18. Wow, way to make my old 3 turn strat seem like total overkill :/
  19. I translated the comments in his last video and it mentioned raising Marcia in the next WIP. I also tried contacting Baxter through twitter by google translating my messages into japanese, but he seems to have trouble understanding what I'm saying. If anyone's fluent in japanese that would be a great help.
  20. Kieran is actually a pretty decent unit when trained. He's your prototypical slow but hard hitting and durable paladin.
  21. Hmm, after seeing that I might be able to reduce my single segment speedrun strat from 5 turns to 4 by getting Tanith further on turn 1 and having Tibarn ferry Tauroneo west, assuming a raised 3-9 Marcia can reasonably handle the south enemies with a brave lance and maybe a forged javelin. You could've saved yourself a lot of hassle, at least in the video, by having Tanith use the tempest blade. I would definitely save both tempests for 4-E-1 shenanigans, though.
  22. Depends on the movement. Even if you draw a diagonal path carefully (ie press up, right, up, right, up, right instead of up-right, up-right, up-right), you can still burn RNs if the path drawn is forced to change due to terrain such as a forest. In that sense, straight movement is the only 100% safe move in terms of not burning RNs if you don't know what you're doing.
  23. Have you beaten the game yet? Why on earth would you boss abuse with Ike & Boyd?
  24. Get yourself a gamepad, makes playing via keyboard feel archaic by comparison and only costs 20-30ish$.
  25. Durr, but he has an extra turn to work with to compensate for movement loss. From that 3 turn you can extrapolate that: -A lot of warping and seige toming is required, using a lot of mag users. Efficient trades are a must. -Longbow attacks are surprisingly useful (eg/ countering the gorgon's stone attack) Since you only have a 10 (12?) mag Moulder and a juiced up Artur, and apparently no seige tomes, the best you can probably hope for is a 5 turn. Edit: Looking at the finale, your 22 str Garm!Ross does 68/73 damage to Lyon with a hit+crit. Make sure he hits 24 str since Lyon comes close to 1HKOing him, meaning 2 rounds of combat are pretty much out of the question.
