  1. It's not just turn count you have to consider, even from a max efficiency perspective. It's reliability. For instance, in any scenario where any of your important combat units gets str screwed, BEXP compensates for that. If Mia or whoever takes a huge BEXP dump, it's depleting that very important reserve. Moreover, you can achieve the same turn count with more flexbility, with more possible strategies that can be used to achieve the same outcome.
  2. I’ve been reading through the last 10 pages of the topic to see what you guys have been discussing recently. One argument that struck me as particularly odd was the topic of BEXP allocation, which is well summarized in the following post by narga: Why are people acting like giving Mia a huge BEXP dump in C9 to save 1 turn doesn’t have adverse consequences for other units? Said BEXP could go towards getting Oscar a little more str, which could be the difference between ORKOing an armor with a steel axe vs a hand axe. It could be put towards Marcia so she caps str earlier, which improves her forged javelin offense. It could be saved for a unit like Astrid or Makalov so you have another high mobility terminator bot. Etc etc. And this is assuming your units are already in overkill status, which isn’t necessarily true this early in the game, in which case the BEXP matters even more. It also seems that in many of these arguments long-term benefits aren’t considered. For example: Conversely, by BEXPing Boyd you get a 1-2 range monster sooner, and don’t have to give him as much resources in the future as maintenaince. You can’t act like assigning a bunch of BEXP to Soren or Mia is completely consequence free; it’s not significant, certainly, but it’s there. And again in the Mia vs Zihark debate. If we agree that the highly specific C9 shove strat isn’t worth the BEXP dump, then clearly Zihark will be better over the long-term. There are more chapters to the game than 1-9 or 1-12 or whatever narrow frame you’re considering when these characters are compared. It’s not just Mia vs Zihark either. I see this kind of lazy reasoning go on for many characters. It’s just boring to assume a team of paladins & fliers make everyone else almost entirely irrelevant for mid to endgame (except like, siege attacks & shoving) even if that’s technically true. Give lower tier units a proper comparison under the assumption that the team in play isn’t jesus tier (which will happen some %age of the time) so that differences in combat stats become actually relevant and not callously dismissed.
  3. There are no bronze weapons in Path of Radiance :P And what's your twitch channel? I looked up your username and found nothing.
  4. Why would that conclusion require a high amount of research? It's pretty obvious in most FE games (where the rescue command exists, anyway) that you should heavily favor your earliest joining, highest mobility unit unless their combat is really unsalvagable, like FE6 HM Thany.
  5. Snowy, you pretty much just agreed with everything I said. I'm of the opinion that if a unit is high tier based on some obscure strategy (say some clever skill combination or resource allocation), that's perfectly fine. I guess it sucks that most tier rankings in the OP would require monstrous footnotes to understand the intricate logic behind them, but that's life.
  6. This whole notion of player intuition is absurd. If, for instance, it's the player's first playthrough, their "intuitive" resource allocation will be completely messed up by their lack of knowledge of wonky player availabilities in the game. Imagine giving an energy drop to Vika, only to have her run off for 2/3rds of the game. That example aside, the prevailing logic seems to be "unit X will not receive resources Y unless it makes intuitive sense". That's just making unwarranted assumptions. For one person, having Micaiah use sacrifice wrath is reasonable and intuitive, whereas another might never think to do that. You can't predict how the player will reason, especially in a game so heavily RNG based. One player tolerates 80 display hit as a tolerable chance, another one doesn't, etc.
  7. If you want to have a rational discussion about Jill’s position in the tier list, a couple things need to be made clear. -Transfers or no? -What resources is she assumed to take? Seraph robe/energy drop/dracoshield in 1-6-1? What about skills like paragon, adept, beastfoe? -Who’s she supporting? What level does she reach C/B/A? -How fast is she levelling? What level is she assumed to be in milestone chapters like 3-6 and 3-13? The last point is especially important. I had a quick look at a 20/1 transfer Jill w/ seraph + draco and she was still getting 2-3HKOed by the most common tiger in 3-6, which doesn’t exactly put her on Haar’s level combat-wise. But then if she’s like 20/5 in 3-6 with 2 robes and an A Volug support, that really changes things.
  8. The unpromoted enemies in 2-1 may or may not move, depending on the RNG. At least that was my experience when I retried the chapter hundreds of times back when I was doing segmented speedrun attempts.
  9. I've never played FE13 but why not just ban avatar in that case? I'm sure there's a set of restrictions that would make FE13 speedrunning interesting.
  10. Good idea. Or perhaps we can split the race into 2 days, each with a fixed time of 4 hours. When the first 4 hours expire, everyone battle saves. The next day everyone continues from where they left off until either they finish or the next 4 hours expire. Then whoever's the furthest wins. Since there's some missing applicants and some details are up in the air, I'm gonna push back the time for this to some time next weekend.
  11. I don't know any of these members, can you link me to their profile via PM maybe?
  12. What time works better for you? Maybe if I pushed back the start time by 2 hours, you could finish at 11? There's still room for 3 more entrants btw.
  13. I was told by Tables that the FE8 speedrun draft filled out almost instantly so I'm not too worried about that. And again, streaming is optional, not a requirement. Do you think Jill should be banned as well?
  14. As the title says, I'm looking for people I can race against. Basically, we would play on easy mode, single segment, usually a portion of the game. Some common races are: Part 1 Part 2 Parts 1&2 Full game Etc If you're worried that you don't stand a chance, I will teach you everything I know. All my strats are neatly contained in this playlist of heavily annotated youtube vids, so we'll already be on even ground from a planning perspective. That just leaves execution, and it's not as hard as you might think to learn how to use the cursor effectively while holding B. I have a quick guide for it in this thread, otherwise I can show you all the cursor movement tricks on-stream. I've already been racing two other people since I started streaming on twitch, and it's been a blast, especially when we do skype calls during our races. But I really need to find some other people who are interested in this since it can get a little boring doing 1-on-1 races all the time.
  15. This is going to be more or less the same concept as the FE8 live speedrun draft, with a couple tweaks here and there. As before, the race will be hosted on speedrunslive and ideally those who join the draft are able to stream on twitch, although it's not a requirement. I've set the date of the race to this sunday at 6pm eastern time, although I can push back the date to whenever if this turns out to be too short notice. The race last week was a blast and if this one is successful, I hope to turn these races into a weekly event. As for the rules, I'm going by the ruleset I found in the sticky, with a couple of exceptions: First, I'd relax the penalty exceptions as follows: 1-P to 1-2: Use whoever the hell you want 1-5: Volug (same as before) 2-P to 2-3: Use whoever the hell you want 3-1 and 3-2: Can use two undrafted non-mount units As for the penalties itself, you won't be punished if you make a couple accidents here and there, such as forgetting to unequip an undrafted unit for 1 turn who then faces an enemy. Egregious or intentional mistakes such as having an undrafted Titania solo a difficult map will cause a self-inflicted penalty of 15 minutes per chapter, although you kind of have to run by the honor system for what penalties you impose on your final time. The drafting itself will be done on-stream. I'll organize a spreadsheet on google drive that all the draftees can access and edit and we'll pick the teams that way, same as last time. Make sure to join the srl channel or contact me via skype about an hour before the race so we can get everything organized properly. Sign-ups 1. Vykan12 2. PKL 3. Gwimpage 4. Paperblade 5. 6. 7.
  16. I hope you realize that people deliberately picked close to the worst possible team you can have. The only decent units on your team that aren't forced are Janaff and Oscar. Also, how are you taking those pictures?
  17. I'd say the best way to deal with that is to have a common 3-E clear save file everyone uses with tons of BEXP (and maybe stat boosters and other goodies) that can be assigned to base level units (assume only forced units were used to beat the game up to this point). Then the drafter can take as much time as he needs to BEXP his chosen units, assign stat boosters, manage item inventories, etc, and make a 4-P advancement save from that. The race would then be conducted based on the moment the 4-P file is loaded until Ashera is dealt the finishing blow.
  18. Don't worry, I'm still very much working on it. I made a playlist with the strats I'm using for every chapter from 1-P to 2-E, and will be adding 3-P to 3-6 by say, the end of next week or so. Also wondering what ever happened to this run
  19. It wouldn't be a bad idea to do an FE10 run for only part of the game. I like playing from 1-P to 3-6 personally since the chapters that follow are what really eat time in terms of long enemy phases. Consider: 3-7: Fixed turn count (12 turns) 3-8: Rout 3-10: Rout 3-11: Basically a rout in principle 3-12: Rout 3-E: 15 minutes worth of combat 4-P to 4-4: All routs 4-E-1: Rout It would also be possible to do a partial run from a save file, stuff like 3-P to 4-E or a part 4 run, although someone would have to upload a save to wiisave or google drive that everyone would use for their draft.
  20. All you really need is a capture card and maybe a 2nd monitor, and xsplit software (the free version works fine). If you're interested I can PM you my setup, although my setup is far from perfect.
  21. This was pretty fun, although I wasn't expecting it to take this long. I'd recommend next time we do a double draft of sorts, meaning each person gets to draft twice. This way two people can have Franz, Vanessa, etc, and you wouldn't end up in situations like me and Kirby having so few earlygame units we had to solo the first 10 chapters with Eirika. Then again, that could just be us making really bad picks, but in the context of a speedrun, it's better not to have your team line-up to be overly restrictive. Speedrunning the game Sethless is pretty challenging in itself. I'm definitely down for a similar race like this for Radiant Dawn. How does everyone feel about setting it up for next Sunday?
  22. Going live now, wish everyone the best of luck!
  23. I am the reset master and that never happened to me >_> I mean I think in my NM speedrun I reset on average about 100 times per segment. Over 91 segments, that's 9100 resets. I do hope you have your wii lying horizontally though.
  24. With a thread like this you're sure increasing my motivation to get my LTC videos back up :P First off, these two wiisaves might help you out a lot (link1, link2). They contain saves I used specifically for making the LTC videos. Now, in reply to the PM you sent me - I hope you don't mind that I'm replying to it here. You can thank for this. I didn't even realize the chapter could be 1 turned until I saw him do it. Maybe there was a better strat I could've used instead? I can't honestly remember. Calill needs to be pretty beefed regardless for the 3-9 strat. No idea, but I recall the requirements were pretty tight. I think I used a trained Tanith, for instance. I have a save file in my transfers for 4-E-1. The requirements to 1 turn are insanely difficult, to the point where I had to resort to 2 longbow attacks. You should also know that easy mode has a couple of significant differences here and there. For instance, 1-2 is defeat boss instead of Laura arrive, 1-6-2 cannot be 2 turned, 1-9 can be 6 turned with a base Micaiah, 2-3 the boss doesn't move, the 2-E 1 turn is much more difficult and 3-6 can be 5 turned (I can make a twitch highlight of this actually and PM it to you). I've also come up with some nice, low maintenance LTC strats while planning for my easy mode single segment run I can share with you.
  25. I'm glad to say that after countless hours I've managed to restore one of my favorite projects, my FE6 warpskip videos. In a nutshell, it's a non-continuity run where I use the warp staff repeatedly to 1 turn every chapter in the game where you have access to warp- the only exceptions being C22 (2 turns) and C24 (5 turns). The full details & videos can be found here. I also made a couple videos involving a newly discovered torch glitch. It's basically an application of the control enemy glitch detailed on gamefaqs using torch staff tiles as PWASE. So that's it for the GBA games, gonna focus exclusively on Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn for a while.
