  1. This reminds me of the whole invisible ties VS blood ties deal, a major plot message. The Avatar, in one ending, has to kill himself to kill Grima. Although he does it because he deeply cares for his friends, he also does it because his life and his destiny are intertwined with Grima's, because its blood ties are to strong and can't be erased. The game never deals with this and just shoves TEH INVISIBLE TIES OF FRENDZSHIPZZZZ in our face... and to make things worse, children travel back in time to help their biological parents... :/
  2. Story wise, Eliwood, hands down. He goes through a lot of horrible things, pratically everything's against him, his whole life was a whirlwind of horrible things, but he still manages live, even if he's terribly sick. Many people label him as a wuss, but sincerely, screw them: Eliwood is such a refreshing character, he's a male character that actually can deal with his emotions instead of thinking that anger and revenge are the answer to everything. He even has the guts to tell Nini he loves her, pretty directly too! Eliwood is truly an inspiring character, to me. His way with peace and war reminds me of Elincia's, and that's another point why I like him so much. Gameplay wise, Eliwood is either godly or the king of crappiness; thankfully I only had good Eliwoods as of now... but... you never know... Another lord I also like is Hector, after all I do have a thing for hotblooded BFFs, but the thing I love the most about him is how rude and not very noble he is! A perfect contrast for Eliwood's polite manners XD Plus, he's an excellent unit! Weild axes AND doubles? Woowowowow. B-besides, it's not that I ship them or anything... it's not like... it's muh OTP ever since I was, what?? 10?? Or 11?? Nope, not at all.. Still, the others are okay, there's no one I really dislike, nor no one I really love. One thing's sure though, Ephraim is hawt, lolololol.
  3. Ah, and that's one of the reasons why I love RD: I got to see Elincia grow up and gain such an amazing strenght ;_; Part 2 was so excellent; I always have a hard time choosing which one part I like the most, but mayyybe Part 2 is the best. I really like what they tried to do with the story and the chapters, it felt interesting and refreshing, but it's pretty obvious not many could like that. However, I especially enjoyed seeing war from differents POVs, and doing things of questionable morality against my own will for the sake of its storytelling. Like, slaying Laguz as the DB was a really, REALLY horrible thing, but it gave me such a big impact; it made me feel horrible. And the game never tries to hide how ugly that is, nor tries to hide Micaiah's plan about dropping lava on the Crimean Knights was a genocide. It never shames away from showing what war can really lead to and how it changes people, and that's one of my favorite things about it.
  4. If a new F-Zero isn't shown, then it'll be like, 8/9 years without having any new F-Zero anything. ... I still care, Nintendo.
  5. You're right about this, but I've seen some people (who also were much more reasonable than the WAAH WAAAH IT SUCKZ B/C WAIFU BULLSHIT) who dislike the gameplay for reasons you probably already heard (the game being a skillfest, grinding hard to avoid, AI going kamikaze, bad maps, etc). My sister is one of those, for example: she just can't get into the game because it's too easy and easy to exploit. Still, the worst are those you mentioned... uuuugh. I don't want to make this mini Awakening discussion too long, but I want to add that maybe all of this hate probably stems from the initial hype, and then some sort of realization suddenly hit the majority of the players who noticed later on that the game wasn't as perfect as they remember it. Personally I've grown to like the game more with time, LOL, weird (but I still dislike some things a lot, can't forgive ya IS lol). Back on RD... Hmm, I guess that to enjoy RD' story, you really have to like it very much (I love it, for example ;;). I tend to forgive its flaws because I really ADORE the parts I liked; I'm not even sure I can be objective about the whole thing because damn... I love RD (and PoR), I really do, I have enormous Tellius bias. In the end, I guess it's a big matter of tastes. RD always seemed to me one of those flawed, epic-scale games that still had a lot of effort put into them, but the creators clearly didn't have the time to make what they envisioned (Xenogears comes to mind). Still, I could be wrong about this, lol, so feel free to correct me, everyone.
  6. Sincerely, I'd say it's RD who gets the unnecessary hate, not PoR. That one is well liked and beloved by many, but I remember RD got a lot of flak back when it was released because it had no supports, because it forced too many units, because Micaiah was a Mary sue, et cetera... the usual complaints. The negative reviews were very common, so me and my sis only tried the game one year ago, because at first we were afraid to be disappointed by it, since we loved PoR so much (and there have been other series that disappointed us; we didn't want to get a similar heartbreak, lol). Regardless, playing it was a good idea, as you can see from my profile, hehe. TBH, I think the dislikes for RD might be less nowdays, but it's still regarded as one of the most controversial games and polarizing games in the series; I've seen so few people with a medium opinion on it: you either love it or you hate it, for the most part. Like, the general opinion of its plot is either "It's the best in the series!" or "It sucks really badly!", and the complaints on the gameplay can get really overheated (Dawn Brigade No Daiboken!). Regardless, I think Awakening might be in the process of being the most hate-it-or-love-it game in the series, so maybe RD won't have that throne anymore.
  7. Uwaa!<3 I love this game! It's my second favorite Wii U game as of now (first is The Wonderful 101). I remember with fondess the hype I had when I saw you could play as Peach again, she is my favorite Mario character and finally having a chance to use her after all those generic Toads was truly a good idea. I've yet to do all the stuff but me and my sis enjoyed a playthrough up to World Star around Christmas times. What saddens me is the lack of online multiplayer! I was really looking forward to playing with my online friends, since my IRL friends only care about Mario Kart and sometimes fighting games... ._. The characters are all pretty fun to use but I enjoyed Peach the most becuase Peach bias.
  8. You have made many good points. It's useless to deny that the game's worldbuilding, mythology, history and lore are all messed up. One big fallacy that comes to mind is the whole existence of Taguels: they were needed as a Laguz homage but they ended up being a horrible mess, with no real background other than... "Once upon a time, we were enslaved by humanz, but then Marth was all like U R EQUAL TO HUMANS to us, and he freed us and that's why he is amazing. But then a bajillion years later you human spawns killed us all in that one genocide! My mother died in muh arms and a little brother lol." If Taguels are so hated, then why is everyone so okay with Palne? When did Marth meet the Taguels?? Where's their country? Who commited the genocide?? Why are they hated by humans?? Why does nobody except Palne know them?? Why nobody is racist against Palne anyway? It's not just badly written, it also feels more of a copy than a homage (same goes with the whole Grima vessel story).
  9. GET IN MY BED tier: - Heath - Hector - Canas - Dart - Legault - Lowen (I have a thing for weird looking characters shaddupppp) - Dieck Yes, Please tier: - Eliwood - Hugh - Erk - Matthew - B-Bors... can't help it. - Saul - Rath (a bit mute though) Sure, Why Not tier: - Sain & Kent - Alan & Lance - Zeiss - Rutger Honorable mentions: Hmm... Perceval, Pent. Shin. Yes, I have a very large spectrum of tastes in fictional men. The series is also guilty of being filled with incredibly pretty characters with good personalities so yea.
  10. You both have a point: the freedom Awakening lets you have with your units, with the grinding, with the post endgame, basically lets you see all the game has to offer in one (or four if you want to try each difficulty and see how they change) playthrough(s). Its replayability relies in something that comes too late (children characters), and even that, some children can get screwed so badly by their parents it's hard to try the most interesting or different couples. Unless you use hard or absurd (but understandable, seeing the nature of the game) challanges such as absolutely no grind (which, on anything that isn't normal, IS hard) or no use of second seals, the game is just so easy to manipulate, to abuse, to trivialize so that every PT feels so lame and same-y after a while (even if you marry different people lol). Even if you try to play it like a regular FE (like I did in my first PT), it just feels boring after a while (I remember I didn't want to play the last chapter so I just PASS'd them all). The maps and the AI doesn't help: squares with kamikaze on them are repetitive as heck! That's why the DLC maps are 10000000000000 times more fun and I sort of hate IS for that (but after all, I willingly paid for those maps and I have no regrets, so no big deal). But, I still enjoy the game! Mostly for replaying maps like the PoR DLC ones which are really fun, and GENETICS ARE MY GUILTY PLEASURE. I still plan on doing a PT in which I only do couples I like support wise, and that one better be enjoyable. But sometimes I feel like if the game was linear and you had to choose which characters to marry off, then multiple playthroughs would've meant you could've seen different children every time, and that the characters would've had different outcomes instead of all the same capped green numbers... I blame most of Awakening's bore problems on its non-linearity. I've seen people blame the series for its linearity and praising Awakening for its freedom instead, but I don't really get their point; the linearity in old FE games made you try different units, different skills, gaiden chapters, different outcomes for the characters, different supports, etc., in every playthrough, you have to go through more than just one to actually try all it has to offer. The only things that can change on a full Awakening PT (complete with endgame and the like) are marriages, children and their skills. I don't think Fire Emblem works better this way, I prefer to have a linear story with the ability to have different choices and the opportunity to ACTUALLY CHANGE THINGS my dear Chrom... If this is not derailing the topic too much, what do you guys think about non linear vs linear?? Did Awakening's non-linearity really affect the fun factor of the game??
  11. SoC, in english!Miriel's case, this isn't much over-analyzing or people wanting characters to be aspergers really badly. It's a general feeling she gives. Set JP Miriel aside for a moment. My sister, who hates the game and didn't even go past the first arc (so didn't read much of it anyway), seriously said something among the lines of "Dafuq, is she an aspie??" with just a glance of her lines, plus I've seen a bunch of people already suggest this; it's a common question between all the non-jp version players (since the EU translations are translated from the ENG version). Reading the japanese script, it makes her seem like the cold, collected librarian archetype with social awkwardness, but the english version really, really, REALLY exaggerates with the rare words and the awkwardness; lines such as that one in the barracks asking you why do people punch-the-hay aren't something a bookworm would say, and she looks like she has zero common sense about the most trivial things, not to mention bookworms are smart enough to understand what's to be taken literally and what's not. I don't know if this is just the translation's case, but english Miriel really does give this "holy moly does she have a mental disorder or something??" vibe. I even remember seeing a fan made picture online, of her and Lute all hyped up, with written AUTISM!!1 on it. Frederick gets this treatment to a much lesser extent, but some people still guess he has ADHD and the like. I can't speak for you guys in this forum, but usually people suggest characters might have mental disorderds to make the game/comic/anime/whatever seem more deep and mature than it actually is. Awakening is the perfect playground for this because the characters are very stereotyped, one-dimensional and tend to have very few things in their mind, and the english version makes this worse. Still, if people want to headcanon things and speculate about stuff, it's completely okay, it's all part of enjoying the game in different ways, in the end. It's not cool to be such a fart and go around with yours Y DO YOU DO THIS AND Y DO YOU DO THAT: if someone wants to talk about Shinon having an abusive mother because she never wanted to hug him in the ENG version, they all have the right to do that, there's nothing wrong with it. Even discussions like these are part of frivolous, pleasurable entertainment stirred from the game itself, such as the countless videos of yours (which I enjoy) in which you kill husbandos, Chrom, Frederick, etc. The matter of this discussion isn't even something serious such as Tharja and Noire, or the ability to marry Nowi, so it's not even they're going to start a flame war. Anyway..... Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if japanese Miriel was more like those snippets read in the FE According to Japan tumblr; her change doesn't seem as awful and drastic as Henry but I think it's still rather evident, so I take the Asperger theory with a grain of salt and with a general distate for how the game got translated (I'm a bit of a hypocrit myself because I love Kieran, and he seems to have gotten pumped up personality-wise, in the ENG version). But, still, my headcanon on her is that Miriel is the one who touches Vaike's muscles when he gets those +2, +3 level ups :V SUCH A FASCINATING VIEW!
  12. Miriel does state in some support that she doesn't do well in being social; IIRC it was Frederick's. And in Vaike's, she seems super puzzled about the concept of friendship and love. However, her seeming Autistic may be only a thing in the translation, in which they exaggerated her speech... or am I wrong?? IIRC, Japanese Miriel was much less wordy and more similar to her son.
  13. Thanks for the info! Easy mode really does sound like a cakewalk, which seems perfect for a story run. I'm getting my pallies ready then B) Another question (sorry!): How hard it is to train Meg and Fiona on Easy?? They are such novelty, I totally wanna bring them along.
  14. Well, if my speculation is true, maybe Henry just doesn't care about it, or the writers simply didn't want to have a guy with a creepy attraction to another guy ( which leaves me like this -> .__________. ). Tharja needed to fill the dark Yandere stereotype, so maybe this is just a coincidence. But this headcanon interests me too much to pass up! Few things interest me in Awakening's crappy story and meh writing; this attraction could be a glimpse to some ACTUAL FORESHADOWING (something the series was good for, despite the fact that the plots are considered okay at best by the general opinion) in a puddle of boring. "She had to be like this for fanservice" reasons aside, I can't see any other possibility for why Tharja is attracted to the Avatar. Giving her life before his sounds like some really creepy religious devotion, and Grima really fits in there. Now a part of me wishes Henry was attracted to the Avatar too ;; In a different way, that is, since he after all is a different person from Tharja. Maybe he could've acted as a pseudo little brother, or as someone who idolizes the Avatar (like how Rolf does with Shinon? Lol). Anyway, here's another wasted opportunity on the list of things that Awakening could've done nicely!
  15. Hmm... Gaius would give her the best stat modifiers, lol. But here we are talking about a group of characters. In my suggested list, both Henry and Gaius are taken, and Olivia is Chrom's wife for granted, so if you want Cynthia you gotta go Freddy: Freddy does make her sturdier: Sumia's negative DEF modifier is fixed and on top of that you get +1 RES instead of Henry's -1 RES. I'd say both Henry and Freddy are good choices, it's only a matter of what the player prefers. You want Magic Cynthia? Go Henry! You want Sturdy Cynthia? Go Freddy! It depends on you OP. I already stated that in my opinion Henry is best for a Dreadfighter Owain that can go well on both Magic and Strenght: you get Vengeance + Vantage and that's coolbeans. Plus... dat white hair + Dread Fighter outfit... hmmmmmmmmmmm :)
  16. I don't think +2 speed is total ass: Cynthy is very good and super speedy regardless of her Pa, and Fred gives her the Wyvern tree, so those who say that are probably the ones who cry in their sleep for not having +4 speed, like it's some horrifying loss. I'd say Henry is wasted on her because he is needed to bring out the potential of other characters; Owain is a good choice for him, so is Brady. The reason why Fred is given to her is because Sumia's other options are needed elsewhere, but Cynthia is still very good anyway: she gets Luna from the start without the need to grind, she gets Galeforce, Aegis, Wyven skills (carrier and the breakers can be sexy).
  17. Aww, my sis never wanted to use Iliyana, but she was getting RNG blessed on our playthrough. A quick question: how useful is her Thunder Magic on the last chapter with the Dragon Laguz? And another one: I heard Easy is easy enough to bring anyone you want, izzat true?? Because I'd like to breeze through the game with some Pally love.
  18. But if OP has yet to clear Lunatic, now I think it's more important to focus on Lunatic alone rather than throwing in +, which is almost a completely different beast. Frederick is still necessary on the first chapters, although it's a much better idea to feed exp to the Avatar, IMO. Anyway, OP, dunno if you kno, but the Vantage + Vengeance combo is very good on harder difficulties; I built my pairs by trying to get as many characters with these two skills as possible. So I say, you should consider the following couples, which all have the V+V combo, very much: - Lissa/Henry (better than Libra due to having better modifiers; Owain is a babe with Vengeance and Vantage, I prefer him over Luna!Owain) - Cordelia/Lon'zu (access to Vantage and amazing modifiers; high SKL is very important, because skills are activated with much more easiness. She also comes with armsthrift which is very nice if you like forged weapons and/or legendaries) - Miriel/Gregor (Laurent will have VANTAGE, ARMSTHRIFT, VENGEANCE!11!!1 FORGED AVERSA'S NIGHT!!!) - Tharja/Gaius (Noire gets Vantage and Galeforce, making her amazing, and also the modifiers are good to boot) Brady is also a child who is hard to screw up; I don't know which father would be the best for him, since he starts with great classes from his ma. Some give him Ricken but I'd say it's a waste of Cavalier. I reallyyyy really love Gregor!Brady but Laurent needs Gregor the most if you want to bring the best of each child. Maybe Vaike wouldn't be bad, but I've yet to try (he gives him Counter, which is sexy). Anyway... I think it's okay, it's not like she brought inherently wrong points into the discussion, no harm has been done; in fact, it only brought more space to talk about Sumia's potential husband, lawl.
  19. Ugh, of course she does, sorry for misreading that, and sorry for the double post! (I can't get the edit to work for some horrible reason...). Anyway, Paralogue 14 is a desert map featuring a mysterious village, did you get it and acidentally clear it without getting Laurent?? You have to go to the village located in the SW part of the map with Miriel: if you don't, you lose him forever.
  20. Does she have a S support with her mate?
  21. But she brought a point that's pretty important IMO: Frederick does fall behind, and quick. Enemies can kill him as soon as you as you reach chapter 3 (or maybe even 2, I don't remember. Not to mention in Luna+ he probably starts to die on 1), and it's hard to grind him with EXPotential growth because IIRC any kind of enemy that isn't the one with 60 HP gives him very few experience. But it's not impossible. Also, due to his low stats for his class, he tends to give his children poorer starting stats. I wouldn't use Frederick as a father for anyone that isn't Cynthia, IMO: Cynthia will be sturdier, she'll have Luna from the start and thus will start kicking asses ASAP. Not to mention that both him and Sumia gain what they lack by supporting: Fred gains SPD, Sumia gains DEF and ATK, so I think it's a good deal. By giving Sumia either Henry or Gaius, you waste a Vengeance (Henry) for someone who'll be taking more damage (and has access to Vantage) and you THROW IN THE TOILET a Galeforce (Gaius), since she starts with the Pegasus line, so I think you should totally go with Freddy.
  22. If you're going to give Owain a magic dad, make him a Dread Fighter: I recommed Henry over Libra because he gives both a bit of MAG and STR; some STR is super nice if you want to kill mages. Also Henry!Owain has monstrous growths as a Dread Fighter, and those are always nice. Another pair I recommend is Lon'zu/Cordelia: Severa with such high SKL is something really amazing (she will get it in a level up almost all the times), plus you get access to all the breakers, if you like them! One last thing, also: pass down to Gerome and Laurent Dual Support+! They will most likely stay on the back due to not having Galeforce; DS+ makes them even more useful as support units (and thanks to have the potential to get 50+ MAG/STR, they are excellent supports).
  23. My headcanon is that Tharja is crazy for the Avatar because the latter has Grima's blood, thus Tharja, being a dark mage, is extremely attracted to them without any explained reason. It doesn't work much because then Henry should have the hots for the Avatar too... :( If he had them, it would've been some really interesting foreshadowing.
  24. I get what you mean, I think all of these feelings can be summed up only with bad writing, because if that's not bad writing, then I don't know what it is! The game' setting and events are meant to be dark, but somehow they are written in a way that they just come off as something generic, of minor importance, and this feeling is strenghtened by the differences in certain supports: in one hand, you have something like Henry/Lissa, in which the latter can't sleep because she doesn't want to kill people and hates war; in the other hand, you have all sorts of petty, bubbly, funny dialogues that don't give the feeling you're fighting a war at all. Too much importance is given to the relationships between the characters rather than the setting in which they live, thus it seems like their world is as happy (or quirky, or weird, or filled with level C drama, or stupidly morbid) as their conversations; but yeah, if you think about what happens for real, you get seriously worried. The only ones who don't worry about it are the ones who should worry the most!
  25. Ah... I think it's clear he doesn't remember much of TSS and of PoR (especially the latter), or that he didn't play them very much, or with much interest. I mean, anyone who played old Fire Emblems can be sure from the start that Awakening is definitely less dark and more lighthearted; it's pretty obvlious. But now, I wonder what the reviewer would think of the game; usually these pumped super positive opinions tend to change into "But wait, no, I was wrong, the old ones were better, Awakening' story sucks... shshjdhsj".
