I'm almost convinced that Pilot's Luck is now an elder god; the more mentions it has, the stronger it gets. This also explains why others can be infected by it, too. That's why Pilot can never be freed. Now, he can scream PILOT'S LUCK three times to make the eldritch elder god appear, and hit him hard enough to kill him. Like, for example, if he stored a whole hockey stadium full of exploding pucks and gasoline, and set it on fire.
