It had a familiar peaceful feeling. I just think about everything. Everything sucks. I punch the stump I'm sitting on. "What did I do to deserve this?" I hear movement in the trees behind me. I wipe away my tears in an attempt to hide them. But I recognize who it is immediately. I don't even need to look. Why, now of all times? "Shouldn't you be back at the castle? I mean this is pretty far off." "That is... ummm.... it's because..." I crack a smile. I look back to see her and say. "It's because I like the flowers here." "It's because you like the flowers here." We say it at the same time. I laughed. I look straight forward again at the sunset above the trees. She sits down next to me. "Umm... how did you know about this place?" "A little bird told me." Awkward silence. I don't know how long... but it felt like an eternity. It almost felt like that peace... that happiness... one that was ripped from me. "Umm..." I stand up. "P-please! I just want to know!" She grabs my hand. I look away, but I don't shake it off. "P-please, tell me what's going on!" "You've been so distant to both me and Chrom ever since..." Her voice... was pleading to me... It was obvious... I looked... and she raised her head. Her face was filled with tears. This was the sight I never wanted to see. "Please, tell me! Did we ever do anything to push you away from us!? We used to be such good friends!" "It's not your fault..." I changed my tone, to a distant cold one: "I never should have remembered." "Huh?" "I never should have remembered. This is all wrong." I still feel the warmth in her hand holding mine. I can't hold back my own tears. "This is wrong. All of it." "I know you don't understand it at all... but to me, this is all wrong." "How I made you cry." I shake off her hand. The tears won't stop. I can't hold back any longer. I'm about to explode. "You're Chrom's wife. His beloved. Lucina's mother." "And yet... you look every bit the likeness of the woman I loved." "The one I treasured above all else." "The one I spent time with, enjoying learning all about her dreams and her hopes." "Her fears, her pains, and anxieties." "How we had two wonderful children, a son and a daughter." "And how we would be all together forever." "And yet you're not her." She looks overwhelmed and doesn't know how to respond with tears still in her eyes. "These memories... don't seem like a lie. They can't be." "And yet everything I see before me tells me it's a lie." "The warmth of your hand... it let me taste of the happiness that I used to have... and yet... it only serves to taunt me." And yet... I take out the two items in my pocket and I show her. "A ring... and a..." She covers her mouth, every bit as surprised as I expected her to be. "My... necklace..." She holds the very same necklace that she's wearing on her heck. I finished her sentence for her: "The one your mother gave you..." "I've only ever told..." "Basilio... and probably Chrom, seeing as he's your husband in this... 'reality'." My tone now seems more distant than ever. I walk off. I heard her voice... but... I didn't care enough to listen... I didn't want to suffer anymore. I wanted to close off everything.
