When doing your Exp calculations, don't forget that you no longer receive 5 exp for exiting once you level up. This is if you were level 2+ at the beginning of the battle. Esphyr clearly attacked a Fighter, as she applied WTA, and did not get hit back by an Adept activation. It was referred to occasionally as a merc, but the whole group are hired mercenaries, so that was appropriate. There is still a Merc class type up and about, I think. Edit: Dark Sage, you have to wait for 5 battle posts between your own battle posts. You cannot attack again so soon.
