Why do you like the Tales series so much? gameplay, story, music, characters (because they're (somewhat) human) but mainly the gameplay The battles aren't completly random because you're responsible for dealing the damage and dodging, and not the RNG. You meant a wanted video game series with a second generation? Eh... I'm not a big fan of this. Only FE4 did it right. I'd say a second generation would work in a sequel in pretty much any RPG, but not really in the exact same game. Currently, the Donkey Kong Country series comes to mind, mostly because of the humour and cheesiness of it. That's not what I meant. I mean if you in real life got married and had your own kids, what would be among the first video games you'd let them play? Probably mercenaries and heroes, since they usually look cool, swords and axes are a nice combination in terms of getting the both most accurate and the most powerful melee weapons, and how in most cases, they don't have a weapon that does super effective damage on them. I guess Shadow Dragon, since I honestly couldn't bare to play past Chapter 3. I don't typically drop games, and the only other ones I have off the top of my head were Super Metroid, due to my low interest in the genre, and Etrian Odyssey Untold, which I'm currently picking up again. I suppose Ocarina of Time 3D. Actually, I forgot about this one. I dropped it after getting frustrated over Bongo Bongo, and then I came back, oh, I dunno, maybe a year or two later? The Sonic series (if I had to pick one, Sonic 1 due to it starting it all). Even back in the 90's, the fanbase was pretty bad and lashed out on the Mario fanbase more frequently than the Mario fanbase did to Sonic's.
