[FE8] Hard Mode, Ephraim Route

Yeah, basically I had to park her 2 tiles back from the mountains so that that Archer and another ranged unit wouldn't target her. I also got quite lucky that she dodged enough not to die, and to be able to still have enough HP to survive a hit from Novala and kill.

She was standing between me and the boss, and I needed three units to kill the boss, one of which was Colm (I didn't have enough confidence in Franz). I guess I could've tried charging straight up the middle, but those Bonewalkers were getting annoying. I got a level for Marisa out of it, so meh. Tethys would've made that map so much faster!

Currently trying to do something about Selena, and failing. I think I will need to dump several RNs to finish this, as Franz missing half his 70% shots is getting on my nerves.

Chapter 10 - 3 turns

Standard Ephraim drop to kill the boss with a crit. Vanessa killed Cormag for his Whip, as waiting for him to charge to where I could get Tana to recruit him without penalty would take too long. Vanessa was promoted afterwards.

Uh, don't mean to be rude, but how much abuse did you do to rig this? Your Ephraim after the Pirate Ship had 30% displayed hit and 10 crit on him.

That's like 18% displayed hit :/

Part 1 - NUMBER CRUNCHING~!

Here's Ephraim's hit with Reginleaf, given 15 Skill and 15 Luck, and assuming no supports:

80 + 30 + 7 = 117

Critical chance is 18% before counting enemy luck.

Here's Beran's avoid, assuming he has a Longbow (best case scenario, which leaves him with 1 less AS):

(14 x 2) + 3 + 30 = 61

117 - 61 = 56, so it IS plausible. . .but this assumes that Beran attacked once with the Longbow, and his target survived. If not, his default weapon is a Lancereaver, and that shoots Ephraim's accuracy down to hell.

However, the only way I can see you pulling this off is either a weird drop location that would require Ephraim to ORKO a lot of things with a Javelin (that Shaman can bite me), or Vanessa had to dodge a Longbow (granted, the thing has a wonderful base 65 accuracy, but after what the RNG has thrown at me, I'm allowed to be a little doubtful). So. . .it's a little strange, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. AHEM.

Part 2 - The next chapter

Chapter 13 - 11/127

This should be a turn less, but I screwed up something, and didn't feel like restarting again.

Turns 1 and 2 - Franz gets rid of all ranged weaponry, Tethys and Ephraim run to each other as if they're lost lovers, Colm and Marisa go west, and Moulder and Tana hang around.

Colm and Marisa keep going westward, with Colm baiting the Killer guys, and Marisa finishing. Moulder followed, mostly to keep people patched up. Tana was used as bait to keep Selena off Franz's case. Franz had to 2RKO Selena, as I needed his Javelin to do other things (like keep that jerk with the Hammer at bay). Speaking of said jerk, he died to the Seth's old Silver Lance (since my 70%-ish shots weren't hitting, I switched. . .and 87% hit twice!)

Once Selena was history, stuff started moving. Ephraim nabbed the eastern village (Talisman, woo. . .might be useful against the last chapter). Tana charged forward, mowing over the poor sop with the Zanbato, and visiting the village on the last turn. Colm did some water-walking. Go everyone~!

Dear Ephraim, your stats can go jump in a lake. I'm tempted to promote Tana right now. I'm gonna see how Chapter 14 pans out. I might just do that!

This took approximately forever, and the majority of this was done right before the ball dropped on December 31.

Chapter 14 - 10/137

I probably could have pulled a slightly faster turn count, but I wasn't feeling lucky. I lost count of the number of resets I had to do in order to. . .

1. Keep Franz at 15 RES from being hit by a status

2. Keep Moulder at 13 RES from being hit by Silence/Berserk

3. Keep Marisa from dying from a Hand Axe. That made me raeg hard.

4. Recruit Rennac and keep him out of combat.

5. Keep everyone else alive.

I am on cartridge, so I can't use save states and the like to dump numbers.

Eventually, I said screw it, and delayed a couple of turns to make sure Franz didn't have to dodge a bunch of mages and other bullshit while trying to kill Vigarde. I am promoting everyone I can before Chapter 15. Got the Spear, missed Hammerne (which would've been useful).

Chapter 15 - 12/149

After watching a bunch of 40%ish attacks nearly kill Franz, I said screw it, and decided to keep this run, no matter what. I wasn't able to get Berserk, but Tethys randomly found the Wyrmslayer, and Rennac got me the Swiftsole, Body Ring, Silver Card, and Metis' Tome. The Tigereye died to an irritated Colm (after the latter swiped his Hoplon Guard); the Bloodstone died to a Killer Lance crit from Franz. Eirika and Tana kept the north side under control; Innes sniped where he could.

Father and Son was terrible for me too, because Duessel kept getting hit by 39% status staves. The least I could get was 8 turns, since Vigarde is suuper bulky too, even Duessel 3HKO'd. And great shield exists to further piss you off. I think I reached the throne room by turn 6.

I feel your pain. The RNG was on full troll mode. That's why I played it safe for the second half. . .and thus, my turn counts. Otherwise, I would've said "screw it", and had Franz chance the 64%-ish hit rate on Vigard. Luckily, I never had to deal with Great Shield.

Chapter 16 - 11/160

Once again, I took things a bit more slowly, since 40% hits by the enemy were translated to 90%. Moulder was busy keeping people awake. Myrrh got quite a bit of combat in, because Tana wasn't murdering things on her own, like she should. Franz eventually broke through and got rid of Orson. Marisa and Eirika stayed outside, and ran through a ton of Vulneraries.

Chapter 17 - 2/162

Barrier Franz, rescue Moulder, dance Franz, drop Moulder, while Innes broke the tree stump and Myrrh stood by for some experience gain. On the second turn, Warped Franz, attacked with the Killer Lance (missed with 90% ;/ ) killed off whatever was bugging Myrrh, got Syrene out of the way, and ended my turn. Luckily, Franz remembered how to critical during the enemy phase, thus ending the map.

I just realized that I forgot Tethys the entire time.

Chapter 18 - 8/170

Nothing extraordinary, apart from Tana nearly dying to two 35%ish hits.

Chapter 19 - 2/172

Turn 1: Franz murders stuff, with everyone else behind him.

Turn 2: Myrrh munches on the Brave Lance guy, is danced, then teams up with Tana to take out the Brave Sword guy, and send the Brave Lance back. Colm torches, so I can see Riev. Ephraim fishes the Brave Lance out of his stock and trades it to Franz, who is then Warped in range of Riev. Everyone else gets a bit of experience, then Franz uses three charges to end the map.

Chapter 20 - 5/177

Tana got the Energy Ring, and I saved before I realized it wasn't needed. ;/

I wish I didn't have to rely on Franz for everything, because there was no way Ephraim could take on Riev, a bunch of other critters, Morva, and live to tell about it. Lots of Javelins were chucked, and in the end, I had to 2RKO Morva, since Franz was a little short on MT (even though he's capped Strength). Everyone else gained some levels and whatnot.

DONE.

Final - 8 + 1/187

Part 1: I had to take this a bit more slowly, as the RNG was dead-set on killing Tana (she nearly died to a slew of 35%ish attacks). Franz broke through first, but had to retreat a bit because he was in danger of dying thanks to several Shadowshots (he got hit by, like, two of them. . .really). I had to bait and kill one of the dragon zombie things, and Colm nabbed me the Angelic Robe, which meant that Ephy could go up against Lyon and live. Eirika snagged the Body Ring out of Eph's bags, and used it sometime in the middle of battle. Myrrh + Ephraim + Eirika did the trick. It's a good thing I had Eirika get the kill, because it gave her HP, which meant. . .

Part 2: . . .she could survive the Demon King with 1 HP. Rescued Myrrh, who did 42 damage. Ephraim rode 'round the back to do 24, Eirika did 21 x 2, and Tethys danced Moulder, who Rescued Franz, who finished with 19 x 2 (the second shot was for insurance, dammit).

THOUGHTS:

Eirika - Turned out damn good! I'm glad she gained lots of Strength! Thanks to her amazing stats, she could double the Demon King - something her brother couldn't.

Ephraim - I never thought I'd use you and "useless" in the same sentence. Became a bit more useful in the later chapters, but Franz was already running stuff over.

Franz - When he cooperates, it's a thing of beauty. Co-MVP simply for being awesome, even with an early promotion.

Moulder - Did a pretty good job as a staffbot, and an occasional bait. Once he promoted, monsters didn't stand a chance.

Colm - Amazingly blessed, which meant that I could use him as a combat unit. He was able to promote at 20, and thanks to his insane Speed, he could double with the heavier swords. Co-MVP for getting the lion's share of the stat blessings.

Tana - Rather frail, and her Strength was suspect. Was still useful on the Phantom Ship.

Marisa - She helped to kill what Tana couldn't. Silencer didn't kick in much, though. She was like a really-mini Colm. I don't regret recruiting her.

Tethys - Dancers are always cool, and she's no exception.

Innes - Stuffy, grumpy, and a godsend against those flying spear things that refuse to die otherwise. Longbow usage was pretty hilarious, too.

Myrrh - If she could only attack from two range!

Chapter 5x - 11 turns - x attempts

I don't remember how many times I tried this chapter, but apparently, it's impossible with just Ephraim and Forde, and getting the chests. So screw it. Orson ran over anything that moved, while Forde ferried his lord, tossing the occasional javelin. I was super reckless with Orson, he ended with 6 HP. Said screw the chests, I just wanted to get finished. No point posting stats for 2 characters who never leveled.
