The Ultimate Pokemon Quest

So I am finally staring something that I have wanted to for a while. Actually, I started it once before, then forgot about it. Basically, I am attempting to play through the First Gen and Second Gen Pokemon games and collect all the pokemon on each game. I have already got 150 in Blue in the past, and 250 on Silver in the past. so this is really for no other reason than to do it. Plus I could brag if I ever completed it.

A couple rules I am placing on myself:

1. I can not use the same pokemon on multiple games. I will not be trading around my Gyarados to beat the Elite Four in every game. If I use a pokemon on a Gym Leader, Elite Four, or Red, they can not be used in any other game.

1a. HM Slaves are an exception.

2. Any pokemon traded must be a lower level than the next Gym Leader. No Articuno blasting through Clair.

3. When I beat a gym in one game, I will not advance until the other games of that generation catch up. Ex:Blue beats Brock. Save and quit until Red and Yellow catch up.

4. Blue will get Squirtle, Red will get Charmander. Yellow will have (ugh) Pikachu until I get Bulbasaur, then she will be thrown in the trash. Cause I hate Pikachu.

Silver will get Totodile, Gold will get Cyndaquil, Crystal will get Chikorita.

Edit: Rule 1 encompasses Rival Battles too. Also, doing Gyms in order of Badge Numbers.

Non-gameplay related rules:

5. All main characters will be named for their version. 'Cause I am lazy.

6. No pokemon will be nicknamed.

6a. Exception: Totodile will be (re)named Sigurd, because I like him.

Anyway, feel free to make suggestions about teams. I am aiming for well-rounded teams, and no two pokemon of the same type. Alakazam will not end up on the same team as Mew. Mew is much too jealous for that.

Aiming for 151 in first gen, and 250 in second gen. Curse you Celebi!

Also, am I crazy? Or what?

That looks horribly complicated and I plan to try to get that Celebi. I am using emulator anyway, what is the worst that could happen.

And yes, Mew glitch in Yellow. Misty will bow before its awesomeness.

Anyway, I had actually started this a few days ago, and got the idea to mention it here yesterday.

Blue and Red started their journeys and got to a point where they could trade with each other.

Silver caught Geodude, Hoothoot, and Ledyba, while Gold caught Spinarak.

Crystal beat her Rival and wonders why the heck she does not have Poke Balls yet.

Edit Update:

Started Yellow (Hate Yellow). Beat Gary in first battle, even though I thought about losing. Caught a Mankey west of Viridian. Raised it up to about level 8 or 9, then used it to help against Gary second battle. Beat Gary again. Went through Viridian Forest, no problem there. Low Kicked Brock's Pokemon in the crotch. Also had caught - Spearow, Nidorans (M+F), and Caterpie.

Blue caught both Nidorans and threw the male into the box. Raised Female up until level 9, then beat down Gary. Had Female pulverize the Viridian Forest to get exp, because Brock was a level ten Squirtle's playground. Traded a Caterpie to Red, who is training to beat Gary.

Crystal: Apparently, I had neglected to talk to Elm about the Egg. No wonder I had no Pokeballs. Did a lot of trading with Silver and Gold to fill Pokedex. Caught Gastly to train, then remembered that Faulkner’s birds are normal type. Caught Poliwag and Bellsprout, the latter being useless against Faulkner and the former just seeming to be useless in general. So I finally just traded the Bellsprout for an Onix in town and proceeded to train that for Faulkner. Not using Geodude sucks, but I want him in Red or Blue for Lt. Surge. Leveled the Onix up to lv 11 because I forgot it was traded. Oops. Enter Faulkner. Lv15 Chikorita led off with Reflect and Tackle’d twice to end Pidgey.Tackle’d Pidgeotto until Reflect wore off. Cast Reflect again and used Tackle until Chikorita fainted. Onix decided to Bind instead of Tackle, then used Screech a couple of times while the Bind finished Pideotto off. All in all, that was probably the hardest time I have ever had on that Gym. Good thing Silver and Gold have Totodile and Cyndaquil instead.

Red: Raised Caterpie to a Metapod, then realized that getting Confusion on Butterfree would not matter if it would not listen to me. So I concentrated on Nidoran M after all. Lv 9 NidoranM got Sand Attack'd alot by Gary's Pidgey, so lv 10 Charmander had to finish it after Nido fainted. A few good scratched took out Squirtle before Bubble did me in.

Went to Viridian Forest. Caught a Pidgey on Route 2, then Nido waded through the mass of Bug Catchers. Caught a Pikachu and a Weedle in the forest. Afterwards, leveled up in the forest until NidoranM got to lv 14. Really thought he got Double Kick around there. Charmander was lv 12 going into Brock.

Horn Attack against Geodude constantly until NidaranM fainted. He kinda stinks before evolution actually. Especially against rock. Charmander amazingly Ember's his way to victory, and lv14.

Third trainer on Route 3 made NidoranM evolve into Nidorino. Good times. Fifth did the same to Charmander. Dear goodness, I hate the Lass with the Jigglypuff. Overpaid for a Magikarp. Not sure if Red will actively use it or not. Team at Mt. Moon:

Silver:

Headed north from Cherrygrove. Started raising Ledyba for Pokedex filler. Caught Weedle. Ran out of Poke balls at a wild Bellsprout though. Totodile was level 12 heading into Faulkner's gym. I predit that he will have an easier time with it than Chikorita. Beat the first two trainers and took a lot of damage in the process. But I am finally level 13 and wit hthat comes Water Gun. Heal up at the Pokemon Center and it is back to work. A Water Gun and four straight Rage's with no Mud Slap in between ends the whole match with Faulkner. Badge get.

OK, so TGB Dual is very annoying. Apparently, if I minimize it, it will freeze completely, causing the save data to reset to when the emulator was turned on. This caused me to do the same thing three times in Silver to get to Faulkner, as well as going through Route 31 twice in Gold. That one in Gold would not have been so bad except I had caught a Dunsparce in the Dark Cave. In short, it sucked. In other news, Quilava is awesome.

Gold:

Headed to Violet to follow Silver. Did not catch any Pokemon on the way. Visited Sprout Tower and caught a Gastly. Returned to Route 31 and caught Bellsprout and Rattata. Stopped by Dark Cave and found Geodude and Zubat. Took on the Gym. Cyndaquil reached level 14, and thus evolved. Quilava soloed Faulkner using Ember.

Entered Sprout Tower. Cleared the entire place with no problem. Quilava rocks.

Quilava lv 17

Went south from Violet and caught a Wooper almost immediately. Had Quilava destroy every single trainer on the route before saving in front of Union Cave.

Blue:

Started down Route 3. NidoranF evolved. Beat down all of the trainers and entered Mt. Moon. Got TM12, Water Gun, and fed it to Nidorina. Squirtle evolved soon afterward. Caught Geodude and Zubat. Retrieved the Moon Stone and evolved Nidorina*. Cleared the first floor, then returned to the Pokemon Center to heal. Had Wartortle take me to the Super Nerd, and he was left with two Hp. Had Nidoqueen solo the Nerd, then took the Helix Fossil. Exited to Route 4 and caught a Sandshrew before venturing to Cerulean City.

*I have never Nido-soloed Blue/Red. I am seriously debating if I want to or not right now.

Yellow:

Yellow started down Route three following his friend Blue. Beat all the trainers, alternating between Pikachu and Mankey. Caught Zubat. Stopped to take a break for a while.

Silver:

Collected the Mystery Egg. Headed south to Route 32. Caught Zubat, Wooper, Mareep, and Ekans. Evolved Weedle twice for Pokedex. Picked up the Old Rod at the Pokemon Center. Finished off all of the trainers on the route and entered Union Cave.

Started training Hoothoot for backup against Bugsy. Totodile evolved halfway through the cave. Got through and entered Azalea Town. Healed up and went back to fight Anthony. Beat him and got his phone number. I would not have had to do that if Gold's file had stayed put. Grumble grumble. Headed into the forest and caught Paras and Oddish. Entered Slowpoke's Well. Caught Slowpoke. Togepi hatched. Cleared out the well. Entered Bugsy's gym. Hoothoot's Peck cleared the entire gym except the last trainer's Beedrill who was finished by Mareep. Healed at the Poekmon Center and went back to Bugsy. Hoothoot took out Metapod but fell just short of Scyther. Croconaw finished it with Rage, as well as took out Kakuna. Badge get. Hoothoot has served his purpose and is relegated to the Box.

So I was at work and something suddenly dawned on me. I have been hoarded ground types for First Gen to use against Lt. Surge (Geodude, Diglett, and Sandshrew, although only the first one matters really). Blue and Red are using the Nidos, who in final form, are (wait for it) part Ground (duh). So Crystal could have just used Geodude and had a much easier time with Faulkner. D'oh!

Gold:

Started through Union Cave. Still only using Quilava. Caught Sandshrew, and missed out on Onix because he got burned and died. Cleared Slowpoke Well. Healed up and went to Bugsy. Being as this file has been a Quilava solo, he is at more than sufficient level to clear the gym on his own. Four Embers and Bugsy's done.

Crystal:

Headed south from Violet. Evolved Chikorita. Caught Wooper. Visited Ruins of Alph and started my Unown Collection. Realized that Sprout Tower needed to be completed. Cleared that, leveling Wooper and Gastly in the process. Returned to Ruins of Alph and used an Escape Rope in the first puzzle room. Did not feel like any more tonight though.

Crystal:

Started training Zubat. Bait switching between him and Wooper until Zubat can take care of itself. Togepi hatched out of his egg. Received the Old Rod and set it to Select. Caught a Magikarp while fishing. Spelunked my way through Union Cave and entered Azalea Town. Talked to Kurt and went to Slowpoke Well soon afterward. Caught a Slowpoke. After the well, went to the Pokemon Center and traded starters with Gold and Silver to fill Pokedex. Also traded Sandshrew from Gold, and Mareep from Silver. Started on the gym, but ultimately decided that a lv 13 Zubat does not cut it. Went to go to the fores tand my Rival decides to show up. Oops.

Two Bites from Zubat downs the lead-off Gastly. I countered his Zubat with my own Gastly, only to have it faint to the same attack, and Wooper did not fair much better, forcing Bayleef to take it out. I decided to gamble and have the traded Onix take on Quilava, to see if it would listen enough to damage him. One Tackle and one Screech got off. Reflect went up and Iattempted to Tackle to take advantage of the Screech. Got Smokescreened but managed to Critical Hit. One more Tackle ended the battle. Off to the Pokemon Center to heal, then it is back to the forest I go, for Pokemon, and for levels. Except I heal and take another whack at the gym. Note: Confusing a Beedrill will result in more damage than Zubat can do normally.

Bugsy – Two Bites to end Metapod. Zubat repeatedly failed to confuse Scyther. Gastly Hypnosis'ed him and Licked him down to low health, then fainted (when Scyther woke up). Wooper finished with a Water Gun. Kakuna is Kakuna.

Continued on through the forest , after healing of course. Caught Venonat. Nabbed the Farfetch'd and got HM01. Back in Azalea, I shoved Onix in the box and bought more Pokeballs. I returned to Ilex Forest, caught an Oddish, and taught it Cut. I then continued on my way. Caught Psyduck. Picked up TM02. On Route 34, I caught a Drowsee. Reached Goldenrod City. Gave a haircut to Zubat to try to make him love me quickly so I can dump Crobat from my team when it gets there. Might as well start on the happiness Pokemon now I figure. Returned to route 34 to search for Pokemon and to mop up the trainers. Caught Jigglypuff and Abra. Started my way through Whitney's Gym. Most of the trainers were a breeze.

Stategy for Whitney to come. For now, I go to bed.

Crystal:

Left Whitney's Gym, because she kicked my butt twice. Went and entered the Bug Catching Contest, and caught a Pinsir. Got Second Place and an Everstone. Returned to the park, and caught NidoranM, Pidgey, Caterpie, Weedle, NidoranF, and Sunkern. Picked up TM28 Dig. Caught a Snubbull and Growlithe on Route 35.

My strategy for Whitney relied on Razor Leaf twice, then Reflect then one more Razor Leaf to finish Clefairy. Then I went to town with Razor Leaf on Miltank, getting lucky with two Critical Hits and another hit or two to get the badge. Zubat, Gastly, and Wooper did not even see combat. Badge get.

Rival Time!

Took Hoothoot from the box, because I had forgotten I needed him for Bayleef. Mareep made short work of Gastly. Hoothoot led off against Bayleef. Bayleef's Growl lowered my Attack, but Hoot still managed to take him out. Mareep silenced Zubat.

Retrieved HM01, and taught Cut to Oddish. Yay HM Slave !Mareep evolved into Flaafy halfway through Ilex forest. Received TM02 Headbutt and taught it to Croconaw. Caught Exeggcute in the trees. Pineco Self-destructed, but I got him the second time around. Caught Ditto on Route 34.

Got to Goldenrod City and the second thing I did was buy TM33 Ice Punch and shove it down Crocanaw's throat. Also, renamed him Sigurd, cause I said I would. Tried Whitney jus tfor fun. Rage does trivialize that gym. Sigurd smash! (as he should). Badge get. Visited Bug Catching Contest before continuing to Gold. Won Scyther and a Sun Stone. Caught Sunkern and retrieved all of the items. Used Sun Stone on Sunkern.

I have yet to discover Pokemon other than Quilava in this game. Rival trivialized by lv 24 Quilava. Taught Cut to Sandshrew. Caught Drowsee on Route 34. Quilava is too OP for the Bug Contest. Got Arnie's Phone number. Caught NidoranM, and Togepi hatched shortly afterward.

So after fighting Whitney's Gym, I am considering renaming Quilava, Seth. Seriously, no other Pokemon has been used in a Gym or Rival battle. I knew he was good, but I was not aware he was this good.

Gold:

Traded with Silver to put Croconaw, Flaaffy, Pineco, Sunflora, Scyther, and Ditto in the Pokedex. Sent Quilava, Gastly, and Drowsee to Silver's Pokedex. Caught Sudowoodo and Unown. Picked up TM08 Rock Smash. Caught Stantler. Ran into Bill at Ecruteak. Backtracked to get Eevee. Caught Growlithe. Skipped Ecruteak for now, and headed west to Olivine. Caught Raticate. Received Hm04 in Olivine and taught Strength to Sandshrew. Got the Good Rod amd used it to catch Staryu, Tentacool, Shellder, and Chinchou. Caught Miltank on the way back to Ecruteak. Sudowoodo dispatched all of the Kimono Girls except for Vaporeon, which Chinchou handled. Taught Chinchou Surf.

Rival - Two Sudowoodo Rock Throws dispatch Haunter. Chinchou faces off against Croconaw, despite not having an electric move. Standard T-Wave and Supersonic, then Flail chipping. After Croconaw falls, Sudowoodo Low Kicks Magnemite and Rock Throws Zubat. And thus ends the first major battle in the game that Quilava just sat around for.

Then I go off to explore the gym. Tempted to have Quilava solo it, but Chinchou could use some levels and that is why I got her early to begin with. Beats every Gastly in one hit with Surf, and downs every Haunter with two, except the ones who use Curse and kill themselves. Morty's Gastly survives a hit and uses Curse, fainting itself. Haunter is met by Quilava who Flame Wheels twice, due to Haunter having like 1 or 2 Hp left. Chinchou returns to face Gengar, but is put to sleep and gets its dream eaten and loses a ton of hp. Quilava switches in and the Gengar keeps trying Dream Eater. Two Flame Wheels ends him. Haunter uses Mean Look after Flame Wheel, and then is defeated by another Flame Wheel. Badge get.

Gold - 34

Silver:

Went north of GOldenrod City to Route 35. Caught NidoranM, NidoranF, Vulpix, and Sudowoodo.

Got to Ecruteak, beat the Kimono Girls, received HM03, taught Surf to Sigurd, and beat my rival at Burned Tower. Caught Koffing. Released the hounds. Returned to Route 36 to hunt for legendaries. Did not find any, but I caught Pidgeotto while I was there.

Went to Morty's Gym. Solo'd the entire gym using Sigurd. THat sounds familiar.

Silver - 39

Crystal:

Followed SIlver and Gold north of Goldenrod. Caught Sudowoodo, and went immediately to Ecruteak. Bought more Great Balls because I did not have any more. Went to Mt. Mortar and caught a Machop. Evolved Zubat. Got through the mountain and entered Mahogany Town. Caught Furret, Sentret, Farfetch'd, and Pidgeotto on Route 43. Headed back toward Ecruteak and caught Ekans on Route 42.

Defeated the Kimono Sisters and taught Surf to Wooper. Finally a reliable attack. Entered the Burned Tower. Caught Koffing.

Rival Fight: Accidently left Wooper in first slot. Switched to Gastly for Haunter. Haunter Curse'd then retreated before I could hit him. Magnemite resisted Lick and I switched to Night Shade. Two shots of that caused Magnemite to faint. Sent out Golbat against his Zubat. Three Bites ended that bout. Would have been even easier if I had gone to go get my Magnemite before the battle. Gastly wasw sent out to deal with Haunter. Two Licks finished him off and so Wooper was up to combat Quilava. One Surf was used, before Quilava finished Wooper off. Those random Pokemon had weakened him quite a bit, so Golbat was sent out and proceeded to Bite. Three Bites ended the battle.

Saw and released the gerbils. Went to Route 35 to dog hunt, but came back with a Magnemite and a Raticate instead. Evolved Wooper against the first trainer of Morty's gym. Quagsire, Gastly and Golbat all teamed up to beat Morty. Badge get.

Back to work on Route 35 to Olivine. Caught Miltank. Started up the Lighthouse. Gastly evolved, and I immediately traded him to Silver and back to get Gengar. Finished the Lighthouse and headed south toward Cianwood. Caught Tentacool, Mantine, and Tentacruel on the way. Got the Secret Potion.

Crystal - 60

Edit update: Played more, but not much time has elapsed so... edit instead!

Silver:

Heading wast from Ecruteak onto Route 38, Caught Raticate. Sigurd evolved into a Feraligator, and now the real fun begins. Skipped the Good Rod and headed straight up the lighthouse, which Flaaffy soloed and evolved on the last trainer. Headed toward Cianwood and caught Tentacool. Agreed to protect the kid's Shuckle for him.

Chuck's Gym - Ampharos took on the one-two punch at the door. Dur. I need Strength here. Back to Olivine to get HM04, and taught it to Shuckle, because why not. Back at the gym, Ampharos solos everything. Badge get.

Silver - 49

Yellow:

Started through Mt. Moon. Ran into a Clefairy, but ran out of Poke Balls. Bought more, returned and caught Paras and Geodude. Beat the nerd and took the Helix Fossil. Mankey soloed Jessie and James. In Cerulean, Pikachu is happy, but not happy enough to net me Bulbasaur. Beat the snot out of Gary. Continued north onto Nugget Bridge. Got Charmander. Met Bill and saw the Eeveelutions. Returned to Cerulean and went to Route 5. Fought through Team Rocket Grunt #7, and caught Pidgeotto and Abra(!).

Mew Glitch activate! Went to the trainer in the grass west of Nugget Bridge. Teleport'd away before he could battle me. Went and battled the kid with the Slowpoke. Teleport'd again, then came back to Nugget Bridge to find (wait for it), ...a Pidgey? Nah, I kid. It's Mew. Thunder Wave and several Poke Balls later, she's mine. I go west of Cerulean to level her up, catching a Sandshrew and Rattata in the process.

Misty's Gym - Mew soloed the two trainers, and next comes the hard part. Four Pounds stops Staryu in its tracks. Two X Defends on Starmie make Pound do little damage, but she is at less then half health for Pikachu to come in and finish the job. Critical Hit! Badge get. Got Bulbasaur. Pikachu to the box.

Yellow - 16

Red:

Traded Charmeleon, Nidorino, and Magikarp to Yellow for Mew and Bulbasaur to fill up Pokedex. Traded with Blue; Charmeleon, Weedle, and Nidorino for Nidoqueen, Wartortle and Sandshrew.

Entered Mt. Moon. Caught Geodude, Paras, Zubat, and Clefairy. Got TM 12 and taught Water Gun to Nidorino. Evolved Metapod. Found the Moon Stone and evolved Nidorino. Took a few trips in and out to get all of the items, but I made it through and took the Dome Fossil.

Bought more Pokeballs in Cerulean. Caught an Ekans on Route 4. Went north toward Nugget Bridge.

Rival Fight. Gary led out with his Pidgeotto, which was quickly dispatched by Charmeleon, but not before he sustained a bit of damage. I had Sandshrew (from Blue) take out Abra for exp. Nidoking took out Rattata and Squirtle. Third trainer into Nugget Bridge, Magikarp reaches the all-important level 15, for Tackle. Now he can (sort-of) train himself. Finished Nugget Bridge, caught Oddish, then trained both him and Magikarp up for a while. Saved Bill. Saw Eevee's family. Went down Routes 5 and 6 to train and get to Vermillon. Magikarp evolved. Went to Diglett's Cave and caught a Diglett. Back to Cerulean.

Misty is usually such a pain for me to fight. This time... not so much. Might have something to do with the Gyarados. No, it didn't. He didn't even fight. Oddish soloed her. At level 17. Awesome. Badge get.

Red - 29

Blue:

Traded with Yellow: Nidoqueen and Wartortle for Bulbasaur and Mew.

Went north from Cerulean for a fight with good old Gary. Wartortle dispatched Pidgeotto, Rattata, and Abra with ease. Nidoqueen took out Bulbasaur. Weedle evolved during the battle. He evolved again three trainers later. Caught Bellsprout. Saw Bill and returned to Cerulean.

Misty's Gym - Bellsprout took out most of Misty's cronies. He defeated Staryu, then was wiped out by Starmie. Wartortle Tackle'd it down to low health, then Nidoqueen finished it off (after missing and eating a Bubblebeam). Badge get.

Blue - 21

Traded with Yellow for Bulbasaur and Mew. Sent Shellder to Yellow. Visited Jasmine in the Lighthouse. Chinchou evolved. Went south from Olivine to Cianwood. Got Shuckle.

Chuck's Gym. Lanturn took out all of the trainers. Two Flame Wheels from Quilava stopped Chuck's Primeape, and Lanturn took Poliwrath out in two Spark's. Had no Pokemon for Fly, so I had to Surf back to Olivine.

Crystal

Traded with Yellow for Bulbasayr and Mew. Sent Magnemite to Yellow. Surf'ed to Cianwood. Beat Eusine.

Took on Chuck's Gym. Gengar, Gengar. Took out Primeape. Bayleef took on Poliwrath. Whenever Mind Reader was used, switched to Gengar. Badge get. Flew to Olivine to greet Jasmine to the world of gyms. Quagsire was about 5 HP short of soloing the leader. Gengar finished Steelix off. Badge get.

Gold

Back to Gold, and now to Jasmine. Lanturn ended everything in the Gym, which was Jasmine. Badge get.

Silver

Traded with Yellow for Bulbasaur and Mew. Sent Tentacool to Yellow. Went to Goldenrod to pick Eevee up. Went fishing in Olivine and caught Krabby, Magikarp, and Staryu.

Jasmine's Gym. Ampharos took out the Magnemites and Feraligatr took out Steelix. Badge get.

Walked north from Olivine. Caught Meowth. Continued to Route 42. Fished for Goldeen. Headbutted some trees for Aipom and Heracross. Went north to Route 43. Caught Noctowl, Girafirig, Venonat, and fished for Poliwag. Caught the Red Gyarados. Talked with Lance afterwards. Flew to Cherrygrove and gave the Red Scale to Mr Pokemon and got the Exp Scale. Caught an Unown at the Ruins of Alph. Picked up Stantler while I was in the area. Flew back to Mahogany Town and entered the Team Rocket hideout. Took a break halfway through.

Made my way to Vermillion City and the SS Anne. Boarded it and took out all of the trainers plus Gary using mostly Wartortle, but NIdoqueen helped in the last hallway.

Followed Blue down south toward Vermillion. Evolved Weedle and Caterpie along the way for Pokedex. Evolved Bulbasaur. Found out that some trainers have different Pokemon than in Red/Blue. I seriously have never played through Yellow before.

Got to Vermillion. Healed up, withdrew Abra and Geodude. Went through Diglett Cave and traded Abra for... what?! You want a Clefairy now?! Fine. Back in Vermillion, I shoved Abra back in the PC and headed to the SS Anne. Yay redundancy!

For Gary, Geodude took out Spearow, Mew took out Rattata and Eevee, and Ivysaur took out Sandshrew.

Yellow

Picked up the Bike Voucher and made my way back to Cerulean City. Went east and beat up a bunch of trainers. Evolved Geodude, and evolved him with Blue's help when I got to the Pokemon Center.

Tanked through Rock Tunnel. Mew's a boss. Made it through and went to Celadon. Got Eevee and evolved it to Vaporeon. Went west and caught a Doduo. Received HM02.

Bought a Fresh Water for later.

Erika's gym was a trip. Not having a dedicated anti-grass in Gen 1 does not seem all that smart right now. I guess Doduo could have done the trick in retrospect but, oh well.

Erika: Mew took out everything except Gloom, and did a big number on him too. Mankey finished him off. Badge get.

Yellow - 61

Silver

Caught Yanma. Finally cleared Sprout Tower and taught Flash to Oddish. Caught Poliwhirl in the waters of Violet. Entered Dark CAve and caught Golbat, Wobbuffet, and Dunsparce. Had Sigurd solo the Mahogany Town Team Rocket Base.

Ampharos soloed the better part of the gym except Pryce's Piloswine, which Sigurd dealt with. Badge get.

Silver - 98

Gold

Caught Yanma and Pidgey (for Fly). Fly to Ecruteak and went east to Mahogany. Went north and caught the Red Gyarados for HM Slave Labor.

Stormed Team ROcket's hideout and Sudowoodo and Quilava destroyed the place. Meant to catch am Electrode, but missed that chance.

Pryce's gym was a joke when you consider that Quilava + Lanturn = win. Throw in Sudowoodo for laughs, and the entire place fainted.

Pryce: Led off with Sudowoodo. Rock Slide was met with Rest the next turn. Two Thunder Punchs and a Low Kick finished the Seel. Piloswine was Rockslide'd for a third of his HP, and dealt back two thirds to Sudowoodo with Blizzard. Switch to Quilava for Flame Wheels. Hit with Blizzard on the switch. A single Flame Wheel did the trick. Switch back to Sudowoodo for Dewgong because there is no Water type moves to worry about. Aurora Beam takes Sudo to 12 HP but Rock SLide OHKO's. Badge get.

Elm calls, but I cannot be bothered by that now.

Evolved Bellsprout into Weepingbell. Caught Dugtrio. Headed east from Cerulean toward Rock Tunnel. Fought the trainers and caught a Voltorb. Evolved Wartortle halfway through Rock Tunnel. Caught a Vulpix on Route 7. Received Eevee and evolved it into a Flareon. Evolved Vulpix into Ninetales. Caught Doduo. Taught Horn Drill to Nidoqueen from the TM picked up in the Rocket Hideout. Wondering whether to finish the place or just buy a Poke Doll.

Caught Natu and Lapras.

Red

Realized that Red had not beaten the SS Anne and Lt. Surge. Oops. So much for keeping the same pace. Got the bike in Cerulean, then went to have a party, then have Nidoking roflstomp those stupid Electric types.

Evolved Oddish after about six trainers on the boat. Beat the rest of teh trainers then challenged Gary. What? You've only caught 40 Pokemon? And you're PROUD of it? I have over 55 sucker!

Gyarados had Pidgeotto for breakfast with two Bites. He had Raticate with two more. Kadabra in one, and Wartortle in three. I always knew that if there one Pokemon I could count on ingame, it was Gyarados.

Gym- Nidoking. That is all.

Lt. Surge- See above. Badge get.

Traded with Yellow to get Ivysaur, Golem, and Vaporeon for the Pokedex. Sent Gloom. Shoved Gloom in the Box in favor of the Exeggcute that Gold left him. Hey, I never said I wouldn't do that.

Went east and waded through some trainers. Note to self: Exeggcute sucks in 1st Gen ingame. At least in 2nd gen, he gets Confusion at level 19. Ditched him after a bit. Caught Voltorb.

Entered Rock Tunnel. Caught Machop, but he was already in the POkedex. Oh well, evolve him later I suppose. No Pokemon other than that in the tunnel.

Went west from Lavender an immediately went to Celadon, fighting one trainer on the way. Got Eevee and evolved it into Jolteon. Evolved Gloom into Vileplume. Evolved Exeggcute into Exeggcutor. Evolved Pikachu into Raichu. Bought a Fresh Water and a Poke doll while I was here. Caught Doduo.

Gym - Well, it has been mostly Nidoking and Gyarados this whole time, but now it is Charmeleon's turn to shine. I have to leave a few times due to poison and Ember sucking, but I clear out the trainers. Only question is: They can clearly see that I am trainer. So why do they assume that I am a peeping tom instead of thinking that "Hey! Maybe he just wants a stinkin' badge!" Sexists.

Erika. Charmeleon destroyed her. Nidoking might have helped a little. And Gyarados. Heck, even Jolteon came in for a bit against Vileplume. Badge get.

Blue

Took Doduo out and taught it Fly with the HM 02 that I picked up. Stormed Erika's Gym.

Gym - Fly OHKO's everything the first two trainers throw at me. Continues to do that until Ivysaur, which a Peck takes him out after he hits me for half Doduo's HP. A Gloom puts me to sleep after Fly does not take him out. Four turns and a wake up later, Peck finishes it. The Exeggcute is dealt with even easier. Everything else is OHKO'd. Two HP remain on lv23 Doduo, so I run back to heal before Erika.

Erika - Poison Powder hits before Fly activates. Fly hits for over half and Vicreebel misses its next attack so I get another Fly off scott free. Doduo is faster than Tangela and hits for over half again. Constict hits but does not slow me down. Fly again for the kill. Except it misses. Now it kills. Half on Vileplume. Mega Drain takes the bird to 2 HP. Peck takes the Plume to 1/5 then Doduo faints, leaving it to Nidoqueen to finish with Mega Punch. Badge get.

Flew to Lavender after buying a Poke Doll. Went to the Pokemon Tower to find Gary waiting for me. Something that was pointed out at some point to me, his Rattata disappears at this battle, in the Pokemon Tower, where dead Pokemon are. Did I go too far in my battles with him? Or did I not go far enough?

A critical Peck and a Fly take Pidgeotto out of the fight. Gyarados' Hydro Pump takes out Doduo, but I counter with Blastoise and the battle is over before it gets started. Two Bites. Water Gun the Growlithe. Bite the Kadabra. And Nidoqueen double Body Slams the Ivysaur.

Had Blastoise lead out in the Tower. Ran from every fight. Put Doduo in front when I reached the healing point. Fly against trainers is VERY effective in 1st gen. When I got to the Marowak unidentifyable ghost, Poke Doll let me go on my way. Blastoise naturally destroyed Team Rocket.

Got the Poke Flute. Flew to Celadon and headed west.

Snorlax - Fly and a Peck, and a faint. Out comes Weepingbell. Sleep Powder. Wrap three times until it was low on health. Sleep Powder again. First Great Ball. Apparantly I bribed the RNG Goddess somewhere.

Down cycling road to Fuschia, pink city of ninja's. And Safari Zone. Dang it! I need my bike. Fly to Vermillon, Blah blah Bike Voucher. Fly to Cerulean, Bike. Fly back to Celadon. Now... Cycling Road to Fuschia, pink city of ninja's. And Safari Zone. Yeah, mostly the Safari Zone. Entered. Got HM03 and the Gold Teeth. Taught Surf to Blastoise, because he has not been owning things enough yet. Caught Parasect and Rhyhorn. Traded the Gold Teeth for HM04.

Gym - Hmm. No Psychic types. But I do have Nidoqueen! Amd Blastoise. Hypno took out both Doduo and Blastoise. Nidoqueen finished it, but man, I forgot how annoying this gym can be. Healed up and back in. Surf'ed a couple of trainers. Healed. Took out more. Healed and went back to face Koga.

Koga. Used Surf while X Attack was used. One Bite finished the Koffing. Muk next. Critica; Surf leaves a sliver. Sludge takes me to 107 HP. Koffing again. This time he poisons me with his one attack. Weezing consists of X Attack on my Surf then Smog to 71 HP on the second Surf, then sending him to the Pokemon Tower. Badge get.

Before I switch off, Blue trades with Yellow to get his grubby hands on Ivysaur and Vaporeon. In return, he sends Blastoise, Weepingbell, Ninetales, Rhyhorn and Flareon. Received and kept Metapod.

Quick note: I never realized just how usable Doduo is right out of the box. No joke, did not level him at all and he solo'd most of Erika's gym and many of the trainers in the Pokemon Tower. Granted, he's not useful much past that, but it is something.

Yellow

Yellow was chosen at random to be the poor sucker who ventures through the Team Rocket Hideout in Celadon's Game Corner. But first, he did some trading with the gen 2 games to send Ivysaur before it evolved.

Silver- Yellow sent Ivysaur, Golem, Vaporeon, Rhyhorn, and Doduo. Silver sent Poliwhirl, Golbat, and Lapras. Silver kept the Rhyhorn while Yellow held unto the Golbat.

Gold- Yellow sent Ivysaur, Golem, Vaporeon and Doduo. Gold sent Shellder, which Yellow evolved with a Water Stone and sent back.

Crystal-Yellow sent Ivysaur, Golem, Vaporeon, and Doduo. Crystal sent Jigglypuff who was evolved by Yellow's Moon Stone and sent back.

Invaded the base and started taking names. Ivysaur got me in by beating the dude with the Raticate at the poster. Vaporeon took out the Zubat. Mankey evolved on the first floor (basement?) Golem and Vaporeon got me through most the rest of the dungeon. I had to leave a few times to heal. No big deal. Just noticed that Ivysaur is the lowest member of the team. Hey! Jessie and James! Golem says hi.

Giovanni - Ivysaur leads out against Onix and gets hit with Bind. Ivysaur is taken to 1 HP and manages to hit with Vine Whip, ending Onix obviously. I gamble and keep him in against Rhyhorn, he goes first and hits Vine Whip again, ending Rhyhorn. Primeape switches in to deal with Persian, and deal with Persian he did. One Low Kick and a Karate Chop and the feline goes down. Picked up the Silph Scope and left.

Caught Arbok on Route 42. Headed toward Lake of Rage and took on the Red Gyarados. It killed itself out of confusion and gave me the Red Scale. Talked with Lance and traded with Mr. Pokemon for the Exp Share. Invaded the Team Rocket Base. Caught a Voltorb in the base. Magnemite evolved. Caught Electrode.

Gym: Not having a fire or rock type hurt here. Bayleef, Quagsire, Gengar, and Magneton all saw action here. The Jynx and Dewgong gave me the most trouble.

Pryce - Bayleef hit Seel with a Razor Leaf, receiving a Icy Wind in return. Another Razor Leaf and Dewgong came out. Aurora Beam hits, and Critical Razor Leaf is exchanged. Bayleef downs after another Aurora Beam. Magneton finishes Dewgong with Thundershock. Quagsire was sent to deal with Piloswine. Surf was met with Fury Attack, and received another Surf. Badge get.

Elm calls. I ignore him and head east. Caught Lickitung and Tangela. Entered Ice Cave. Caught Swinub, Sneasel, and Jynx. Made it through to Blackthorn City. Bought a bunch of Ultra Balls. Went south to Route 45. Caught Gligar and Dratini. Traded with Silver Dratini for Lapras and evolved Silver's Poliwhirl who was caught with a King's Rock. Flew to Goldenrod and entered the Radio Tower. Cleared the place and headed to the underground.

Rival - Lapras used two Icy Winds to take out Golbat. Two Surfs ended Magnemite. Two Bites from Golbat stopped Haunter. Three Magneton Thundershocks caused Sneasel to faint. Lastly, Quilava was OHKO'd by a Lapras Surf.

Red

Went east from Celadon City and gave the Fresh Water to the guard in exchange for access to Saffron. Caught a Growlithe and evolved using a Fire Stone I had bought. Continued to Lavender Town and the annoying Pokemon Tower. Ran into (and over) Gary

Gary - Gyarados led off against Pidgeotto, and used Bite. Sand-attack hit, but Bite landed again. Switched to Nidoking for Growlithe. Two Water Guns, and it was time for Exeggcute. Charmeleon used Ember before being put to sleep with Hypnosis. Barrage was used, hitting 2, 4, and two times before Charmeleon awoke and Gary used a Potion. One more Ember ended the duel. Three Jolteon Tackles stopped Kadabra while Gyarados came back in to deal with Wartortle. Three Bites (one being a flinch) later, the battle was over.

Proceeded up the tower, distracted the ghost with a Poke Doll and dispatched Team Rocket. Received the Poke Flute. Went south. Woke and defeated the Snorlax. Got the Super Rod. Caught Venonat and Ditto. Went to the Safari Zone and caught Slowpoke, Dratini, and Nidorina. Caught Seaking in the waters of Fuschia. Caught Shellder and evolved him using a Water Stone. Caught Staryu and evolved it using the same method.

Gym - This is the first time since Brock I think that my foes have significantly been over my level. That Hypno was a pain to deal with. Charmeleon and Gyarados both fainted and Nidoking was left with few HP. Psychics were brutal first gen. As if we did not know that already. Gyarados was able to take out most of the rest of teh gym, with Charmeleon's help.

Koga - Koffing poisoned Gyarados before G could finish him off. Nikoking came out against Muk and used Thrash for a four turn onslaught. However, Muk managed to use Minimize in those turns and Nido hit himself a couple of times before Surf hit to finish Muk. Charmeleon hit Koffing with Ember and Burn'd him, Two more Ember's (with Burn and a critical) sent Koffing on its way and brought out Weezing. Charmeleon stalled a couple of turns with Slash until Weezing stupidly Self-destructed, ended the match. Badge get.

Arrived at the Pokemon Tower to take on...

Gary - Ivysaur led out and quickly retreated when he saw Fearow. Golem came out and made short work of the bird. Ivysaur popped back out against Shellder and annihilated it with Vine Whip. Level up and Razor Leaf! Vaporeon is out to deal with Vulpix. Three Quick Attacks (can't wait til Surf). Four Qick Attacks to Sandshrew. And Vaporeon deals with Eevee in the same fashion.

Climed the Pokemon Tower. Caugth Haunter and Cubone.

Team Rocket! Double Razor Leaf the Meowth. Golem Dig against Arbok and Weezing. Followed Mr. Fuji and got the Poke Flute. Got my Bicycle and went down Cycling Road, after beating Snorlax. Ivysaur evolved. Caught Fearow. Entered the Safari Zone and got HM03 and HM04 (through the Gold Teeth). Caught Scyther and Kangaskhan. Found out you could get Cubone in the Safari Zone in Yellow. No need for Celadon Rocket Base. D'oh! Caught Parasect, Nidorina, and Tauros. Went east from Fuschia and caught a level 32 Pidgeotto (to make grinding fro Pidgeot easier) a Weepingbell, and a Gloom. Evolved the latter two with a couple of Leaf Stones.

Gym: This gym is much easier with a Psychic Type! Especially when they are named Mew! Mew and vaporeon's new Surf move clear out the gym.

Koga: Vapoereon did little damage to Venonat with Bite and got put to sleep as a result. Poke Flute was used, only to be put asleep again. Poke FLute. Asleep. Poke Flute. Miss. Surf does considerably more damage, and asleep again. Poke Flute. Sleep. Flue. Miss. Surf. Switch to Mew for the next Venonat. Mega Punch misses and I get Toxic'd. Mega Punch three times while Venonat misses or hits with Psychic. Venonat keeps putting Golem to sleep until Koga uses an X Attack. Dig does half. Keeps doing Sleep Powder. Switch to Vaporeon to Quick Attack after being awoken. Level 48? That's why this Venonat's a pain. Doublke-edge recoil finishes him off. Good riddance. Venomoth meets a Rock Throw, curtesy of Golem. Rock Throw misses and I get Psychic'd. Venusaur comes out to Poke Flute for Vaporeon and get a few Razor Leafs in before Psychic. Vaporeon Surfs to not finish and tries to Quick Attack. Smack. Psychic. Restart.

Dang. He's alot harder now. Grinding. Be back later.
