"Ahoy," she greeted, "How d' ye want me t' help?" The question was aimed at Veronika. She figured she'd already been taught how to use the cannon so all that remained was which job everyone would be doing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Outside the commotion only increased and further away were the muffled sounds of cannon fire, though to Norbert it only sounded like explosions. They were bothering him a lot less than they probably should have, though. His energy was spent, feeling the crash of having been awake and as active as he could be at this stage of recovery. And so the pegasus rider fell into a deep sleep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was the end of the world. There was something familiar here, but she couldn’t place just what. Volga figured it out first and barked in greeting. Katrina moves to zone 19? ----- “Uh huh,” was all the response Valter gave as he sat there brooding. To say he wasn’t in a talking mood was so understated it’s not even funny. ----- Ok, the surgeon had to be somewhere on the ship. How the hell do you get lost in a piece of wood floating on the ocean? Synthia didn’t know either, but somehow she managed it. Eventually she ended up on the gun deck, which turned out to be where she was looking for anyway. She spotted the doctor and carefully made her way through the chaos of the gun deck. “Hey, I heard you might need some help,” she said. ----- Hey, end of the world was at least something Phyllis and Riz agreed on. Now!" "Helmsman! Hard to starboard, on the double, mister! Tell the gunners to open up on the bastards blocking our way as we turn! They're only going to get one volley, so make it count!" Filat ordered. The Dark Utka made a sharp and cringe-inducing turn that had it listing quite a ways to port. Everyone held onto something as the ship turned eastward and within ten seconds, the port side guns had begun firing on one of the enemy ships. Kit replied, giving a little spin as she turned towards the twin Galleons that had begun to fire upon them. "See that ship behind the Ukta, that Galleon? The eggs are on that ship, Fox~" She replied with another joyous twirl, stopping in front of Fox, so that she could make eye contact with the man. "Want me to go pay them a visit, Fox?" She asked, a mischievous smile gracing her lips, as the air about grew heavy with magical energy. ************* There she was, the merchant woman. "Fred and I learned how to fire them from the crew down here, though the aiming might be a bit haphazard. First time for everything I suppose," she said, attempting to remain upbeat despite a sinking feeling that she may die in the husk of a burning ship. It wasn’t like she couldn’t fly back in a few minutes. Volga obliged by hovering in place until she met the group and then flying along beside them for a stretch. “I reached far? I thought you were heading towards Ursium. Why are you all the way down here? ” Katrina asked. "I was told t' help ye out," she clarified, "Ye know it takes more than one person t' fire these things efficientla, aye? Which job should I do? If ye don't have anaythin' in mind, I guess I'll just pick up whatever yer not doin'." I sort of wish we were more spread out. I understand that th' more complete gunner teams we have, th' more shots we'll be able t' fire effectivela, but not havin' people more used t' firin' th' cannons o'er here's goin' t' make this more difficult. I know how, aye, but I haven't had much practice. Always been more one waitin' t' defend th' ship from boarders. This'll be somethin'. Though she wasn't entirely confident, Gytha's focus remained steady, leaving no room for worry, as she looked along the cannon and out to the water. Meanwhile, Ofnir made a second appearance as he dropped out from the clouds and swooped down near the Diligence. The captain was almost thrilled to see that particular dragon due to what it meant for the Brandish and its escorts. However, that was the only good news he would have in the next sixty seconds. The rest was bad news, as the Brandish turned to unleash all of her firepower against the Diligence's escort frigate, and the already badly damaged ship sank just a few moments later. "Urgh! Mount a search and rescue! Blast, I think we might have stuck our guns in just a little too far .... Hopefully Ofnir can give us some cover while we recover the survivors. I'm not sure we can do much while taking taking shots from that thing ..." The frigate's destruction wasn't taken lightly by anyone who saw it, and the captain of the Bad Bachelor ordered the ship forward. He planned to repair the deed personally once his ship was in range of the Brandish and her escorts, but what he didn't realize was that Fox already had his own plans ... Those came to light back aboard the Outer Sanctum as word reached him that one of the frigates had just gone under. "That eager to make some new friends?" Fox asked in response to Kit's question. They were quickly joined by one of the ship's crewmen. "Milord, we just lost a frigate! Tip of the right wing, sir!" he reported stiffly. Fox put a hand gently to his forehead and began to rub. "... sooner than I expected. It was far sooner, in fact, but it only changes how soon I start doing this .... Kit, I want that ship replaced, and you're just the woman to make it happen," he began outlying his plan. "I want you to head over to the ship that destroyed the frigate. These men entered this battle knowing full well they might die, so an outright death threat isn't the best option here. I want you to inform them that if they cooperate with us for the duration of this battle, we'll leave Port Tremere after we get what we came for. More specifically, we'll leave it 'in tact', and with a living, breathing hierarchy. You should probably leave out the part about me commissioning their ship permanently, though." he explained with a blank expression-his idea of a joke. Already the Argus had set out to try and run the blockade, and another sloop was on its way out. Another's crew was preparing to do the same, but would wait until the Brandish had destroyed the Windjammer blocking the way out. They had no idea that the odds of that actually happening were quite low .... The pause in cannon fire drew Filat's attention from the ships they were close to and to the far end of the battlefield. Smoke plumes rising over water, but little at the surface of the water itself. A ship had just gone under, and a rebel ship from the looks of things. "Hah! Did they really think capturing this entire port just to catch us would be that easy? Let's hope they have a few more casualties like that ... right around this region, too." The destruction also drew the eyes of some of the Leverager's spotters. "Awesome! That ship can fight!" one of them cheered. "She's on her last legs ..." Bogdan commented grimly in response. "It's hard to watch." And suddenly the spotter felt bad. Meanwhile, Raquel looked down to her side to see the artificial girl they had rescued for the first time since the actual rescue. Feeling awkward about that, she didn't say anything right away. "Umm, yes?" Meanwhile in the sky, Mandy and Talitha listened to the exchange between John and the other rider known only as Katrina. Since they were both wyvern riders, most of the theories the two girls thought up to figure out how they knew each other revolved around that. They weren't in any immediate danger yet, so Mandy suppressed her urge to ruin the conversation with warnings about the battle. Talitha was still worried, though, almost enough to interrupt them; Grabacr was getting way too close for comfort and could probably take them all out in one well placed shot. One of the enemy ships had gone down, thank goodness, but now the dragons were starting to converge on them. She had to make a decision now. “If this ship leaves, they’ll stop attacking the port. They weren't stopping until they were close enough to unleash hell. When the Dark Utka came up, Bogdan grinned-time for action. The helmsman knew what to do and turned the Leverager hard to starboard, somewhat mimicking the Utka, and both ships had their broadsides completely exposed. The gunners below smiled as two ships panned into view. "LET'S KILL'EM ALL!!!" one of the men shouted as the cannons were loaded. "We're good, here!" "Ready!" "Cannon armed!" the teams continued to call out as they finished loading the guns. And then finally, the order came down from above and was relayed several times to reach everyone's ears. "NOW! FIRE! FIRE! FIREEEEEE!!!" The Leverager and the Dark Utka unleashed a volley of cannon fire that tore right through the nearby rebel galleon and nearly destroyed it right on the water. The main deck and gun ports were ravaged and men were scattered by the explosions. One crewman was even struck by a cannonball directly and killed. Its companion ship suffered far less damage, but the crew was thoroughly intimidated by the violent maneuver. The final bit of damage became clear to them as the galleon's foremast slowly toppled over and dipped into the water with a series of loud cracking and and an eventual splash. "And that's the line of battle," Bogdan declared with his arms crossed, now staring at the damaged galleon intently. "A fairly small one ... but you won't survive another." This will no doubt attract the attention of the dragon, and the rebel ships near the part of their blockade being fired upon. This could be their only time-frame to be able to escape. It was now or never. ''Well this is it,'' John said. ''Either we act as bait or the ballista managed to fire first and we finish the job. Either way it'd be one dragon less to worry about.'' Gil grunted. Finally he could partake in some actual air-to-air proper confrontation for once since a long lack thereof. But did it had to be with the dragon? Well, not like there was a closer candidate to have engaged against first. ----- When Sophia made it back to the deck, she had decided to go the extra mile and take refuge on the Dauntless. At the very least, if the worst-case scenario happened and the ship went under, it was much easier to get out of the wagon than the bowels of the ship. Not that the chance of the wagon being hit by a cannonball weren't thought of, but at this rate, no part of the ship was safe anyway so long they were still under threat. Snowy_One Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 Robin winced and collapsed down to the deck as the sound of cannon shots started to fill the air. Each round was absurdly loud, especially to her honed hearing. It felt like someone smacking her upside the head with a hammer! "<ARG! It's way too loud!>" she cried out as she crouched down and started to make her way to the Leverager or whatever it was called, hoping that the walls would deafen the sound of the canon fire. A second concern was on her mind though. What would happen in they were sunk? She could swim, but an ocean was different from a lake, she was sure. Currents were present and it was a LOT deeper. Hopping into it, the entrance upon the Outer Sanctum closed as soon as she was through. Reappearing on the Diligence, Kit made another leap, this time able to pinpoint her target, as she unleashed the dark arts once again, warping herself to the Brandish 'So... the ship is known as the Brandish, is it? Time for me to do Fox proud~' Making sure she was out of the range of the ship's cannons by placing herself upon the deck, Kit began to address the crewmen. "Attention, crew of the Brandish. I have a proposal for your Captain~" ************ At the very least, she had gotten the merchant's attention. Now to articulate her request in a way that the woman would understand... a rather momentous challenge in her current state. Seeing a sailor with his pistol nearby, Lisandra moved over to him and pointed out the gun, before pointing then to the wagon and then to herself. At the very least, it would be a start. The sailor whose gun she had pointed to glanced at her once he noticed, but didn't say anything. He was probably just as if not more confused than Raquel was, and with the quartermaster still giving directions, he had to let the issue go and get back to work. The girl pointed to the Dauntless next, which managed to get Raquel wondering if she wanted a gun. Wait a gun? She finally confirmed this by pointing to herself. "W-wait, you want a gun?!" Well ... given the current situation we're in, I can't blame anyone for wanting a ranged weapon ... but she's just a kid, though. "Umm, how old are you exactly?" It seemed like a stupid question to ask. The girl couldn't have been very far in her teens and being an artificial human being probably made her even younger than that. She shook her head immediately after asking, figuring that she was either so 'young' that age didn't really matter, or she was as old as she looked and it was just generally a bad idea. "I know we're in a lot of trouble right now, but we have to trust the captain and his men to protect us and escape from here." she tried to explain. It would have helped if she wasn't nervous and struggling just to keep her balance. Brandish Things had taken a turn for the worst aboard the Brandish. The ship was heavily damaged, and people were scurrying around trying to put out several fires that were threatening to ignite their powder kegs. With heavy ship moving to flank them, and the Diligence speeding in their general direction, things were looking bleak. When a strange looking woman appeared with a 'proposal' for their captain, the quartermaster made sure his men lowered their guns. They were either going to get out of this with their lives, or go up in flames when the Diligence or the Bad Bachelor arrived. The captain came running from the aft deck with two pistols out and ready to fire. "Who and what the hell are you?! What do you want, woman?!" the captain shouted angrily. "What does this whole damn fleet want?!" The captain's shouting prompted some of the other crewmen and some of them began adding things like 'Yeah!' and 'Explain yourself!'. "If you guys help us get what we want, then we'll leave Tremere right afterwards, completely intact~ You see, someone stole something from us, and then decided to dock at your Port, and now they're going to let you guys cover for them while they try to run away... but this is a really nice, big ship, and if you were to... replace the ship you just sunk and help us pin those guys down and get our stuff back, we would be happy to leave Port Tremere right after~" Kit continued, with a flourish of her tails. "So, what do you say, Mr Brandish Captain? Do we have a deal?~" ********* Good, the point had been driven home decently enough, though the merchant began speaking to the effect of her age, among other things. She seemed to be attempting to bolster confidence, but her shaking was a dead giveaway. "Age... least twice... you." Lisandra replied, as she stepped forward, towards the water slightly, taking a firm stance as she brandished her axe, and held it above her with a confident smirk, lowering the blade to point towards one of the rebel ships.
