BrightBow
Btw, did anyone else notice, that Nono's clothes look really just as the ones from the little Anime girls in "No more Heroes". She would fit in really nicely with them. Except of course, those oversexualized little girls were intended as parody of the otaku culture. And now this kind of design is the new standard. (Rated A by ZERO) If Suda makes another NmH, I wonder if he could still parody this, without it turning into porn. Edit: Btw, I would like to say that if this art style stays, there is a really good chance that this is my last Fire Emblem. What do I care if the series will still get localized as long as it looks like this? It might as well die. BrightBow
but you gotta admit that is a pretty nice ass i mean olivia ...This is fiction. All women have nice asses there. As just another oversexulized female, all she does is to add to an already insanely oversaturated market. Personally, I prefer characters that don't look stupid. And I prefer games, that don't look stupid. Edited October 23, 2012 by BrightBow
shadowofchaos
Clearly the solution is for ALL of the FE characters to wear a Dark Mage or Dancer out fit. at least ein gets it you guys the real problem these days is that people lack imagination. because they lack imagination, and are unable to picture their favorite opposite characters in sexy outfits/partially naked, IS had no choice BUT to do this. don't blame IS for this, blame those of the FE current/potential fanbase for lacking imagination. ...ha. ha ha ha. HA HA HA HA HA. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. tenkiforecast
My thought is that you need to make it relevant to the era you are designing. The really, really revealing outfits for a lot of FE characters now? Not as fitting for a medieval-esque style game. I guess the best example of this are the complaints surrounding Nomura's designs for Square-Enix, specifically Kingdom Hearts and the newer Final Fantasies. ZIPPERS. ACCESSORIES. EVERYWHERE. ALL THE TIME. It feels a bit jarring and out of place because the clothing design doesn't really fit with the environment they are building. Contrast this with The World Ends With You--he uses the same type of designs, the over-accessorizing and zippers everywhere, but because it takes place in modern Shibuya it fits beautifully. More thought needs to be placed in where the outfits actually *fit* with the environment. There is a line crossed when the outfits change from being slightly fanservicey but appropriate (Ayra, Lyn, Mia, some of the female mages) to blatant ecchi (FE13 Miccy... really? Really?). To quote Bennett the Sage, "If you want to make a hentai, just make a hentai." Truthfully, a lot of these designs I just roll my eyes at, because it does not match the time period and feels jarring. Freohr Datia
Do you really think, that the art has no effect whatsoever on the enjoyment of the game? I think it does and he probably does too, but it shouldn't have that much of an effect... Though personally, besides how it's over sexualized, has weird looking outfits and has lesser quality than the previous art styles, I don't see how the artwork looks so bad to everybody. Elieson
Do you think, that the art has no effect whatsoever on the enjoyment of the game? Roughly 5 controversial pictures. Entire game is awful. That's the logic you just gave me. BrightBow
Roughly 5 controversial pictures. Entire game is awful. That's the logic you just gave me. No... What I was merely asking was if you at least acknowledge that the art has some effect on the enjoyment of the game. It's right up there, in my post you quoted. Try to read it again. Though personally, besides how it's over sexualized, has weird looking outfits and has lesser quality than the previous art styles, I don't see how the artwork looks so bad to everybody. Anyway, for me personally, story and atmosphere is an important factor of enjoying a Fire Emblem. The series is really good with atmosphere. With it's permanent deaths, it really manages to put weight on any single turn. The artwork does of course also add to this. until now, it had been far away from the usual fantasy artwork, with the bikini armor outfits and all that. The worst we got, were high heels. I actually complained about stuff like that, long before FE13 was announced. Those complaints are so hilariously out of place now. Anyway, the art really drags the whole thing down. Sariya might be the best written character in the franchise, but with her decision to enter the battlefield in her underwear, I just can't take her seriously. Just try to imagine her wearing a big red clownsnose to understand my complaint.
Elieson
Ok. Yes. If the game is completely filled with awful artwork of poor quality, I don't enjoy that aspect of the game. A few butts here and there don't bother me. I see enough sexualization in line at the grocery store, so why would a few more instances bother me? Now, if the quality of the artwork is actually genuinely awful (as in, within the first 5 seconds of seeing something, I'm compelled to analyze and find flaws in it because it's just that bad), then sure. Ffx-2 was filled with that. Was it an awful game? Well yea kinda, but the artwork didn't actually make the game a worse experience for me, it just was not the selling point.
