I skimmed the bad part about Awakening's reviews...

First Review:

・ストーリーに深みを感じられない。

(I really couldn't feel the story depth).

・ここ最近流行?の萌え的な要素の追加等が気に入らないし、FEの世界には合わない気がした。

(What's with the craze for this game? I'm not much for the moe and fanservice extra content, so... I really don't feel like it's a true FE title.)

Pretty much the same criticisms we have on our side of the fandom.

Last I checked peeps in Japan loved FE3 to death

Weird

Well, fan opinion changes over the time and the SNES games do have dated portions. 36/40 is as high as the highest Fire Emblem games in Famitsu, and that would be more representative of the original release. New Mystery still has an "A" ranking so I'd say that FE3 is still one of the top FE games.

Interestingly enough, Genealogy was rated the worst from Famitsu but the fan reception is pretty much smack dab in the average for all Fire Emblem titles. And the reception for Sword of Seals is considerably better than what fan reception is here, despite (or because of?) the direct parallels to FE1. Unsurprisingly, despite Shadow Dragon's decent review score from Famitsu, the fan reception is the lowest, followed by Sacred Stones. That said, I think the scores are still pretty spot on compared to North American impressions. It just goes to show that the best selling titles don't mean it's the best title. Thracia's score is the wonkiest of all with only 4 fan reviews. I get the feeling if more people had played it, then the score would normalize down into the mid-high 70's like most of the other FE games.

I was just about to go and play Thracia because it was the highest review and I haven't given it a chance yet but instead you have awakened my inner procrastinator by mentioning only four people reviewed it.

This and their reaction to BoF 6 announcement pretty much open my eye of their view. Well, at least those who have presence in the internet.
