Vashiane
There's Mila and Ashera as well, so I suppose they could count...

Here's a secret: "Gods" was added in the English version as a censor to "damn". In Frederick's case it's combo'ing off that. It was just a change just because. I've seen worse things in Nintendo Games, Earthbound and Final Fantasy for examples. D: About Freddy, idk, never questioned expect that it sounds extremely badass. Anyone else isn't capable of saying "Chikusho" or "Kuso" in text. They were fine with saying "damn" for the generic enemies though.
BrightBow
So does this mean that Frederick's line used to be entirely different? Since replacing "God" with "damn" obviously doesn't add up.

They were fine with saying "damn" for the generic enemies though. That's because they're eeeeevil. One of my complaints with Awakening is that the bad guys look too obviously bad (Gangrel, Validar). I guess dabbling with Grima has its effect on your appearance, it seems. Sully says "damn nuisance", doesn't she?
BrightBow
I take a few damns over the psychopathic sadism displayed by the "good guys" any day. So I would really like to believe that the Japanese version was different and that the localization is responsible for the tone in the English script. "Have you made your peace?" "Are you ready to finish this?" Etc. Any other place where they say "Gods" is usually "Kuso". Or the one that made me laugh... "Oh my gods". Localizations. Elieson
Mila is a God? I may have missed that part. If Ashera is a god, then is Ashunera a god as well? And, there's seriously only a handful of known gods in the series that could be chosen from? I think this thread is taking my OP the wrong way. I'm more interested in the existence of religion and each religion's respective gods, not localization differences between crit quotes. Anacybele
Um, I doubt Frederick's line was censored in the English version. He says the word damn there too. "Damn my carelessness!" The localization team would have to be REALLY stupid to censor one line and not the other. But as for what gods Freddy Bear is referring to, probably Naga, Mila, and some minor gods in the Archanea world we don't know about. I doubt he means Ashera, she's in a different world. And I don't see why someone in Ylisse would pray to her when it has its own gods. And yes, of course I have to be in a Frederick-related thread. ;)
Silver Lightning
Religion in FE is weird. Sometimes its really obvious who they're worshipping, like Ashera/Ashunera or Naga. And then there are the less specific ones like the apparent Saint worshipping, Elimine and Latona; I don't think they ever make it clear in Blazing Sword/Binding Blade and Sacred Stones whether they are actually worshipping the Saint or just following the religion they created, unless you count Caer Pelyn who obviously seem to worship only the Great Dragon. Then again, those two games hardly mentioned the nature of the religion their clergy followed. Guess it just wasn't that important to the plot... Airship Canon
Outright Gods/Goddesses (Nothing suggests these are Dragons posing as gods) Ashera Yune Ashunera Mila Duma Dragon "Gods" Naga Grima Loptyr Salamand (One of the few Dragons involved with FE4 to be named.) Forseti [The rest of the Dragons that came with Naga to Jugdral] Saints/Crusaders Various ancient human heroes who are incredibly powerful. E.G. Ulir (the Sniper God) Other Anna There's plenty of Gods for religions in FE. Edited November 26, 2013 by Airship Canon

The "Pick a God and Pray" sounds more original and unique to Frederick. It's perfectly reasonable that there are other religion we also haven't heard about from a tribe or something like that. Rapier
I take a few damns over the psychopathic sadism displayed by the "good guys" any day. So I would really like to believe that the Japanese version was different and that the localization is responsible for the tone in the English script. The same thought crossed my mind once. The "good guys" can be only seen as this because the "bad guys" are even worse nutcases. I read a DLC script once, without any prior knowledge about the characters, and I found it pretty odd. Also, Valflame beats Forseti everyday in FE13. Worship Fala/Val. Edited November 26, 2013 by Rapier

Czar_Yoshi
For what it's worth, in Awakening cht.18: Say'ri: "What...ah. That is no forest fire, sir. It's a volcano. Have you never seen one? That one is called the Demon's Ingle. It is known and feared by all the people of Valm. Few dare even get close, lest they anger the wicked fire god." Also, Valflame beats Forseti everyday in FE13. Worship Fala/Val. For minmaxing that may be true, but if you're fighting Lunatic Risen without LB, the boost from Forseti often allows you to double and ORKO the Falcon Knights, instead of doing 10-20 damage (x2 with Celica's). You also get Forseti after cht.3 instead of during cht.22. Edited November 29, 2013 by Czar_Yoshi

Chapter 18 in the localization is missing a reference to Gaiden. ドーマの臓物 "Doma's Remains" instead of the Demon's Ingle. It's completely irrelevant to the entire "gods" in the localization in the script used as an expression for when they curse or "oh my gods" like Liz does.
