LuxSpes
Funny that considering Slaking is based on a sloth. isn't slakings appearance based more on ancient sloths or whatever It is based on extinct giant sloth, since the it's prevolutions were, but design wise, it takes a lot from gorillas. Not that it's surprising since no one knows what a giant sloth actually looked like

LuxSpes
thought there was some fossils around and scientific estimates of what they look liked but your case is still in point, yeah fossils can give them an idea, but it will never show the exact picture. Just look at how scientists first depicted dinosaurs as slow, scaly, cold blooded reptiles, but most recent discoveries and interpretations point toward them being active, warm blooded and feathered, kinda like proto-birds, at least for the 2-legged carnivores. And I looked at some renditions of giant sloths and Slaking doesn't really look like most of them.
