Outside of Japan it was Red and Blue, so Green's name got changed, and has kept the name of Blue ever since. Except for FireRed and LeafGreen. In those two games, it's the only time Green's name remained as Green in the localization (when naming him, Green shows as an option, not Blue). Blue was the third version released over there, not Yellow. And that Blue version used different sprites and stuff, which is what the overseas releases used, so they stick with Blue as one of the two colors to use. Then between Red and Green I guess they chose Red for the other. Or so it goes, I don't remember well. BLUE IS A MORE FEMININE NAME THAN GREEN ANYWAY I know, but it can't be helped. They won't change his name back to Green no matter how much green he wears. I think her original name in Japan was Leaf, actually. It's Blue. Leaf is a fan name, not an official one.
