If I chose to ride buses/subway, I actually wouldn't have to spend any money, since students have free public transportation here in my city. Still, the buses and the suwbay are CROWDED and SLOW. I had to use then for 6 months, and it was terrible. Almost everyone that studies in my university and can, uses cars, even with the free public transportation. There's also the fact that my city is super sprawled (like, by far the most sprawled brazilian city), which makes our bad public transportation look even worse. If the bus fare increase passes through it'd be at 14.5-15 MXN, and I have to take 2 buses from my home to the school. 58-60 MXN per day is not really something I can afford... Not that using a car is any better, since gas prices have been on the rise once per month throughout the year, and I think through the last one too. It's already at above 13 MXN the liter, and it will keep rising until December this year when it finally stops... hopefully... sigh...
