Personally I don't mind too much, depending on how it's handled. Perhaps it's the angle about it. Sure, deploying mechas because monsters/aliens/demons/etc are invading Earth is cool and all... but perhaps just being different ideologies (not necessary between humans) clashing and the mechas are treated as conventionally as any war weapon I also find appealing.
