Need a Moment To Rant About Chapter 4-3

I know I'm not one to frequently enter the forums, but I need a moment for the understanding to rant about Chapter 4-3.

I've cleared this chapter many times, but this one chapter (and the Endgame part 3 of course) are the ones that consistently result in a unit death. Nearly 10 years later, I still can't fathom why the team at Intelligent System decided to make the Dawn Brigade as frail as humanly possible. The RNG has worked especially hard to make sure this playthrough is more atypical than the average playthrough. Jill has sworn off strength and defense, only gaining each 3 times in 21 level ups aside from promotional gains. Edward has refused to gain defense or HP, having a defense of 11 after 30 level ups, and then Nolan who also seems to hate the concept of strength with less than 30 as a level 6 Reaver. Sothe is as useless as always, leaving only a passable Nolan and an unusually speedy Aran. I've carried over Kieran and Marcia, but Kieran is moving nowhere, and Marcia is susceptible to crossbow users.

Death one has occurred by a potshot critical to Micaiah from the sniper with a killer bow with a grand total of a 3% chance.

I got unusually lucky when I misplaced Leanne and she dodged two eminent death attacks from a dracoknight with a 70% chance of landing the two hits, but Edward and his feeble defense lost it when I forgot about the dracoknights that appear near the start and the RNG decided he was unfit for dodging two hits ~30%.

This chapter is truly what dreams are made of.

-End Rant.

The easiest way to beat 4-3 only using fliers.

Haar and Jill are physical tanks. Marcia, Tanith and Sigrun can triangle ORKO a lot. Only beware of bows and crossbows.

Jill could even solo this map; is even able to dodge the sleep stave thanks to her high resistance. With enough strength and speed she can ORKO everyone. I always give her the paragon scroll in 4-P to make it possible in this chapter.

I never use any foot units in 4-3 except for Micky and Sanaki, because their movement just suck in the desert.

Like ITP said, it's a good idea to let the fliers dominate the Silver army. Guys like Edward and Nolan, if they're trained, do much better in Tibarn's team (or Ike's for all that matter). Dunno why you have Kieran there.

Yeah, I didn't plan this all too well. I'm just not accustomed to having a Jill who can only do 9 damage at a time to enemies.

Kieran sticks left to deal with stragglers. Marcia and Naesala rip through the southern army. Jill and Sigrun are usually left with rescue duty since they aren't properly trained. Nolan and Aran go right, micaiah and Laura run back and forth with restore and physic staffs. Everyone else is basically just there for taking and dropping rescued units from Jill/Sigrun.

Kieran is only here cause I paired him with Marcia for supports.

Do you have Nullify available? It really helps Marcia deal with those crossbow users (suddenly, they deal single-digit damage to her) and can greatly increase her positioning flexibility in the southern part of the map. Naesala will have to deal, but the normal bow users shouldn't threaten him too much, just the crossbows.

Skrimir is also pretty handy in this map since he has full move when transformed. He's probably not doubling much without a Speedwing, but this just lets your other units get easy kills for easy EXP. Lion gauge moves slowly, so untransforming shouldn't be a big problem. Give him a Laguz Stone and some grass and he'll be good to go. Sanaki can likewise set up easy OHKO's for Kieran without being in danger due to the movement penalties, just watch out for the Dracoknights that spawn in the southwest eventually. They're both forced anyway, so may as well use them.

If possible, prioritize killing the Purge Bishop (Marcia and Naesala can canto back north out of harms way after dispatching him), as that will allow Leanne to help Marcia, Naesala and Skrimir take out the southern army. The desert lets you be really aggressive with her - just make sure to keep her out of Numida's range until he's dealt with or exhausted his Purge. Also, Micaiah can heal and restore someone at the same time using Sacrifice, useful if someone gets put to Sleep and whaled on.

Generally, it is better to send fliers and sages to the Silver Army, other units won't do a thing and will just lead you to procrastination. Other helpful options are Laguz units but they are locked to 1 range so.

Give your low res units some Pure Water and if Jill/Marcia are struggling on combat then give them Adept Vantage and give Resolve to sages.

Well, it is finished.

I probably play radiant dawn very inefficiently. I find most of the Laguz units pointless in the face of royalty, so I end up selling their stones and pointless skills so I can get the special items in Aimee's shop throughout the game :P. I usually have a well established team, and then units that I try out so I'm not playing the game without changing anything up. So I often make some questionable unit/support choices in the name of changing things up rather than going for an optimal set up.

Just use lyre dude you'll finish the level in 2 turns.

But for real, skrimir is a "beast" on this level and if you have any boots handy just give them to aran so he can actually move in the sand. As said before, fliers are great and all but be sure to mark crossbows and sometimes bows. Be careful not to get your low res characters into Numidias purge range or you might be in for a bad surprise. i find that having a flier escort Micaiah over to stefans recruit spot which helps to deal with the clustered up generals and light mages in that area.

Also aran+sleep staff=pain same goes for skrimir and other low res units.
