Etria Posted May 13, 2016 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I replayed a few chapters yesterday and found that, while a little generic, Chrom is a pretty alright dude. I don't like him as much as Eliwood and Eirika, but he's not as boring as the other blue-haired lords. All in all, a meh character. I really like his supports with Sully, tho. He always turned out amazing for me I can say that Chrom is (aside from Lucina) one of my best units in my current playthrough being top tier alongside my F!Robin, Lucina and of course his son Morgan. He has consistently (once I get him going) become the strongest unit in my team (regardless of playthrough). I don't quite understand how he can be a "terrible" unit. I corrected my mistake in later playthroughs. He's often dumb, bland and just lackluster. That's mostly all there is to it. Most FE lords share similarities, but I've found that all besides Chrom had something to contribute to a likable personality. He willingly goes into traps - well alright, but at least try to devise an intelligent approach rather than recklessly acting on your emotions. Being a "good person" doesn't make a character good. That can be said about most of the cast of Awakening besides the dark mages, and seeing as how a lot of them are flat, two-dimensional characters it's not a compliment by itself. All that said, I don't think as much effort was put into Chrom's character so that Lucina could be portrayed as the superior, more interesting character. Not even a huge fan of hers, but can see why she is hailed a good character by many. His supports have their moments, and I can appreciate the attempt to make him into a youthful and thus at times immature character. While I'd prefer a more mature and serious lord, Awakening wasn't a dark game at all so eh, guess I wouldn't call it a flaw. Ultimately, I kind of started liking him for the simple fact they didn't put him over Lucina in Smash (out of pity, basically). as a unit, he's actually pretty underrated, I find. He had a couple moments but he was generally pretty boring when we wasn't screaming at Gangrel or Walhart or whoever else, and his almost obsessive behavior towards Robin creeps me out. Sometimes I force myself to like the main characters to make them stronger so they don't screw me up by dying and making me lose. So I sort of have a neutral opinion about him but he can still be pretty cool. I pretty much have the same opinion about Marth. But in TMS Chrom is sick!
