What's the point of debating with one's the best class? For starters, General's are barely even comparable with Berserkers nor Swordmasters.

More damage than the latter, more hit than the former, and defense that beat on both. Aside from 1 move less, Generals are incredibly solid, and unless you pick up a defense heavy character or two, they're irreplacable.

Swordmasters usually do more damage than generals, because they tend to do about 4x damage per round as opposed to 1x.

Of course, Generals can generally get off 2-3 times more damage off per attack anyway thanks to higher strength and con. And if they don't have higher strength, they generally have higher speed. And it's very rare for a General to not have the con to wield an Iron Axe and most heavy steel weapons.

Grandted, it varies by game and characters, but Knights are also a bit better than Myrmidons in most games, and that should count for something.

In a game where death is permanent, speed isn't the best thing to rely on. Sure, you may be hard to hit if you're fast, but it hurts pretty bad when you are hit.

Generals can't move a lot, but they can take hits like no other. To me, that makes them a much more useful class than the other two.

^^Truth.

Of course, that means you have to cross your fingers and hope that one of those attacks is a critical.

Luck's never been a friend of mine, so I prefer guaranteed damage instead of constantly hoping for a critical blow.
