Another "bad" unit I like is Alec from Fire Emblem 4. Yeah, he may not be a great Social Knight, but he does has his great points about him. Evyal of FE5. His growths are made out of win and his base stats are totally baller. He's underleveled in FE9, sure, but it's hard to argue with 10 speed and defense on a level 10 cavalier that also has 50% and 45% gains in each area respectively. You actually get a pretty decent amount of maps to make use of him, and he's made out of pure manliness. I can see arguments against Tauroneo, but he's hardly BAD even with just his base stats. Geoffrey is actually pretty good. I think the only guy with better defense than him on average is Makalov, which is weird for a guy with such a late join time at such a high level. BEXP really screws things up, as well as the fact that you always have to get at least 1 stat up per level. So averages in that game are nearly impossible. He's one of the rare sages you can actually call durable because on average, his HP and DEF are already higher than the other sages can get even at 20/20. He's also fairly handy with a knife for when you attack other sages, and his highish resistance means he'll barely take damage. In fact, despite his lower magic scores and speed than other sages, he still serves pretty well in combat because of how broken RES is in the game.
