They do appearantly make friends with Goran, that one Warrior with a crossbow who acts as the boss of the bridge level and is seen nowhere else despite being pretty in with Micaiah's cult of personality and considered important enough to guard that rather vital spot (he also has more leadership stars than Micaiah, which isn't relevant but it is funny).

Sigh. Commander of the whole Daein Army, and still no leadership stars.

Would be funny to have Goran as an NPC in III-6, only to get killed off on the Bridge Map.

I wasn't working under the assumption that Lucia would keep her endgame class and stats.

Even supposing Lucia comes as a Myrmidon, it'd still be a case where you're getting two of basically the same unit, around the same time. ...Except one has pseudo-plot-relevance. Mia would just need something to stand out in her own right.

That could work, the Dawn Brigade also lacks a non-light mage, since Illyana leaves the group once part I ends.

That reminds me of an idea I saw a while back, someone suggested giving Laura  dark magic instead of light, since Micaiah already covers that. While a neat idea, it doesn`t change that Radiant Dawn hates mages her low speed and HP leads her to die to a stiff breeze.

Laura with Dark Magic would be odd thematically, as she's perhaps the most pious character in the playable cast. She absolutely should become a Bishop.

If anything, I'd be more inclined to let Micaiah default to Dark Magic. She has a Dark affinity, and winds up hosting a being known as the "Dark God".

Oh, on the topic of Bishops: make Tomenami playable in PoR. Right now, he just gives you the Ashera Staff if his whole flock survives. But I think having him join makes total sense. Another Staff user is always welcome, and it would literally double the number of Light magic users at your disposal.

NPC? Make him playable in III-6!

They managed to make it work for the Christmas Cavaliers...sort of. Though, Zihark is obtained pretty early too.

This is a great idea.

Fair enough, I think the suggestion was done to make Laura less redundant with Micaiah becoming a Light Sage at the end of part I.

Honestly Micaiah gaining Dark would make more sense.

if anything i'd suggest laura gaining fire (holy light), consideing her growths basically screem 'I'm a magic swordmaster/halderdier' but her caps really let her down. something my RD hack fixed up for her. It also helps that she's pretty eccentric.

honestly despite their initial classes it always felt like laura was supposed to be the offensive mage and micaiah the healer.

If anything, I feel like a non-royal survivor of the serenes massicre would be interesting.

As for a new idea, I've had an idea for a MU in tellius for a while.
the idea is that the MU is a dain conscript and one of the few survivors of the clash between the dain army and elincia's escort. the MU bascially decides, fuck this, when him/her and a few others find elincia and decides to protect her instead, and then you get intergrated into the GM.

Being former dain would make for interesting supports and dialogue (with bosses as well as commentary on the situation) as well as insight into daein as a whole.

In PoR's epilogue, you'd have a choice to where you'll go, somewhat pending on your supports, which will determine where you are in RD:

Daein(the defualt option): you go back to daein, your home. you join the DB early part 1.

GM: have an A support with any of the original members of the GM+mia(I find it funny that she's the only permanent join from PoR if what we see in RD is correct)
you'll join ike's party from the start
Gallia: have an A support with a laguz, and act as a beorc representitve in gallia. You'll join with lethe and mordy in part 2.

Crimea: have an A support with any crimean knight or charecter. if its Brom or nephnee, you'll start on 2-1 with them. otherwise, you'll join with geoffery in 2-2.

Tormod: A support tormod or muraim and you'll join with his crew in part 1. you won't bail the DB though as daein is still your home country.

Begnion: support tanith and you'll join when she does.

I agree, but there are some issues. Namely, what can they do? Herons can't fight, so then they can only be a refresher...but we already have three of those and they kind of have to bend over backwards to make sure you can't ever deploy two at once.

You say that as if Zihark, Sothe, Jill, Haar and Tauroneo don't exist. Rescuing Elincia is also the fifth chapter, are we just going to skip the first four? Or are we just not going to get our self insert until a bunch of chapters focused on entirely different characters?

Tanith joins at the end of Part 3, that is super late to be getting an avatar character. It's literally passed the 50% mark of the game.

As much I like the idea of Path of Radiance supports determining their starting faction in Radiant Dawn, the split army system means that the MU`s availability will vary greatly, which will make balancing them difficult.

well not everything needs to be perfectly balance, fun is more important.

Fair point, but I also wouldm`t want the MU to be able to solo the game.

Question, how would the MU`s story role be handled? With them being able to be in any army, it would be difficult to give them one consistent role.

Honestly, I want any FE MUs to be as unimpactful to the grand sceme of things as possible. They should be just a memeber of the respective army they join with additonal quips and dialogue inserted here or there. though you can still go wild in the endings (AKA MU/Elincia is a ship that would be somewhat pushed in my theoretical remake), really. and you could add in a extra base convos since it is an MU.

But in the grand plot?

just teat them as another GM/DB/CK member, basically.

I also want MUs in FE to stop being main characters and be just another member of the army, so I agree with this option. New base convos could be neat too.

glad we agree here.

Like we can have all the wish fufilment/selfish/self insert romance fuel we want and still be minimally affecting the plot.

Like, i mean, how important is chrom's wife in the grand sceme of awakening? only the fact she exists and gives birth to lucina, really. same concept here.

just give them more base convos then other people casue MU and we'll be golden. maybe a few extra boss convos here or there depending on background

(i can imagine a somewhat more detailed convo with petrine for example, and maybe ena,in my MU's case, in PoR.)

Here's the big problem: Radiant Dawn's storytelling method is inimical to the very concept of a "my unit". The whole point of this character is, you're playing as them. When you (the player) moves weapons from the convoy into a unit's hands, that's your MU (YU?) doing inventory management in-universe. When one of your units attacks a particular foe, it's because of YU directing them to do so. They're a stand-in for the player.

So, creating a game with an MU... but making it so that, in certain chapters, you're not controlling the MU... totally collapses the point of an MU. They're no longer a stand-in for the player - if they were, you wouldn't be able to play any chapters without them. They just become as (in)significant as any other unit. You, the player, are still a wholly external force, guiding these various armies as the story demands it. In that context, an MU just doesn't fit, whatsoever.

I'll also note that, since FE started putting MU/avatar characters in their games, the only game that hasn't had one is SoV, which also has a split route with different armies. If they decided that it wouldn't work for that game, I can only imagine they'd reach the same conclusion for RD and its even larger number of separate armies.

(I am also a little sad that the success of MU as a concept probably means that we're less likely to get games with interesting and experimental structures in the future.)

Ive done this in my hack, but making laura be able to use fire makes sense for her stat build as an offensive mage and allows the DB to better deal with hordes of laguz. Just fix some of her caps. Thematically, clensing fire is a thing, and laura was always a bit quirky.

Id actually suggest letting miccy pick up dark magic to represent the darker path she's being forced to take plus the psralells to sephiran's own dark/light abilities. It would also give you much more room to play with dark magic in general

That is true, especially since they face mostly Beast Laguz, who are weak to fire magic. "Fix some of thier caps" could easily apply to several units in Radiant Dawn.

More like most, as ive found while making my hack, lol.

Mages being the worst off with cavs not too far behind (poor mist in particular)

True, cavs are also pretty badly screwed over (and yeah, Mist really gets the short end of the stick in that regard).

The funny part is, as my hack shows, and even just anyone who's able to do basic cheat codes can tell you, simply making florette magic makes mist stupidly strong at times, she fucking obliterates a lot of things casue florette's stats on paper is actually busted to the point that its one of the few weapons i'd had to NERF stat wise in my hack after turning it into a magic sword...

It's probably so good precisely because it's a physical prf on a character with low strength. It'd probably be a pretty decent but not broken weapon if it used her magic stat but still targeted enemy defense.

Probably, though that basically makes physical swords irrelevemt for mist and also means she completly eviserates mages harder then before.
