Phoenix Wright
What are some of everyone's least favorite character translations? Mine are Shiida and Ogma. <_<
Dr. Tarrasque
Zagaro to Sedgar. Marich to Merric (Seriously, wtf?) Edited December 7, 2008 by Boo
Rodykitty
Ogma is actually a meaningful translation due to Celtic mythology and still resembling the katakana, so there's no possible way it can suck.
Ϲharlie
Roshea and Xane. Roshea sounds too much like a woman's name, and Xane doesn't suit Chainy one bit. Other than that, I don't have any problems. The names are either acceptable or too amusing for me to dislike them.
Rodykitty
Ah yeah. Xane is the worst. I have no clue what they were thinking on that one.
Celice
'X' or 'Z' names are mystifying to the unrefined, I guess. Just look at all the crappy sci-fi movies of yesteryear in America D: Personally, all the names, save common sense things like Rena->Lena, I would rather of not happened. Phoenix Wright
Ah yeah. Xane is the worst. I have no clue what they were thinking on that one. I'm just curious but...is that name pronounced chAy-nE? (Chainy)
Admiral "Bull" Halsey
Jeigan = Jagen. I hate that so much.
Lord Raven
You mean, changing its spelling to a more phonetically pleasing one? Shiida and Sheeda the same phonetically. I don't see a problem with it myself. Marich to Merric (Seriously, wtf?)I like Merric better.Zagaro -> Sedgar. ~_~ Linda -> Linde... does Linda make too much sense as a name? Navarre -> Nabarl. Navarre was actually the name of an empire, but a lot of people translated it as Nabarl so I have no clue why I am complaining.
ZephyrD
Not impossible for Xane to actually be something like Zay-nee which is fairly close to Chainy, though it's a rather odd choice, imo.
Just call me AL
Just one thing I have to say. What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. But seriously, the name changes? I may not like some, but I really don't mind. But for a least favorite, I'd have to say Linda -> Linde. burning_phoneix
Is there a list of these things somewhere around here that I'm missing? To tell you the truth I was never bothered by any FE NOA translation ever.
Ϲharlie
Is there a list of these things somewhere around here that I'm missing? To tell you the truth I was never bothered by any FE NOA translation ever. http://www.serenesforest.net/fe11/char_1.html The character section on the main site has all the characters with their new names. Though, it's kind of useless if you aren't familiar with the old names.
burning_phoneix
Yeah I was looking for a Old Name---> New name type of list. :(
Ϲharlie
A few off the top of my head.... Jeigan > Jagen Gordon > Gordin Doga > Draug Riff > Wrys Barts > Barst Saji > Bord Maji > Cord Kashim > Castor Navarre > Nabarl Maric > Merric Zagaro > Sedgar Roshe > Roshea
Jedor
None of them particularly bother me except Sedgar, Bord/Cord, Xane, and Castor, the rest are minor enough/alright enough for me to not care. dondon151
Too bad Castor/Kashim doesn't have a twin brother by another father named Pollux. That would have made a lot of sense.
Swordsalmon
All the new names are terrible. The only exception really is Ogma. Also, the minor letter changes (Daros<Darros) are fine, though some (George<Jeorge) are just ridiculous. And the boss' names for the most part really don't matter. The worse are easily Roshe<Roshea and Gigashu<Grias. They ruin my two favourite characters in the game. :(
burning_phoneix
I never really understood the "No they changed my favorite characters name! They're ruined! :(" argument. If they changed the characters personalities then maybe but just the name?
Lord Raven
To be fair, some of them did have cool names... Not like there's much personality in this game anyway. Edited December 7, 2008 by Nathan Graves
Superbus
Just one thing I have to say. What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. But seriously, the name changes? I may not like some, but I really don't mind. But for a least favorite, I'd have to say Linda -> Linde. They changed Linda? How can you fuck "Linda" up!? Someone asked why this irks us. It irks us because we've had the same names for years upon years; now, we have to change to adapt to the people that didn't give a flying fuck until the game was shoved in their faces. That bothers me, especially since there's not really a lot of reason to a lot of these changes. I still maintain that Nintendo did it to fuck with the older fans. Nackar
Eh, I don't really mind any of the name changes. Some are a bit silly (Roshea does sound like a girl's name) but none of them bother me. I even prefer some of the newer names, like Castor, Merric or Jagen. Posaydal
Probably Nyna and Talys with their gratuitous 'y's.
uguu
Frey-Freyr. Frey sounds like a pussy name, Freyr doesn't. The second r is his name. HE NO LONGER HAS A NAME.
