Til then, LoL and TOR have their own channels so take them there. Also, no more pms about this particular issue, please. They won't do anything but get on my nerves. You know, i can see the base validity of it, out of sight, out of mind, everyone's theoretically happy. The problem with this instance is that not everyone is on the same page, and for the time being I seem to be the only one that has a problem with this and I wholeheartedly embrace that thought for the moment since working has taught me to pretty much try to assume the worst scenario, that way if things manage to be slightly better, you're pleasantly wrong! but i digress on that analogy's front. Reasons the topics 'need' to be moved include (but are not limited to): Domination of chat, feeling isolated, lots of pissing and moaning. Let me try to address these! DOMINATING THE CHAT. A fair point... However... It's never to my knowledge been brought up (League of legends) when there's something more relevant to the chat that needs addressing. I'm sorry, but to say it's dominating a silent chat is really unfair, as any conversation will be 'dominating' it. If you dislike it, put forth another topic. If the majority didn't want to switch the topic... why is it an okay decision to ban a popular topic based on a smaller percentage of people not liking said topic? I'd understand if it was a squicky topic like... fetish porn of any kind, that's just asking for offense everywhere, but an extremely popular game which is literally played by millions of people daily? which brings me to the next topic on my list. FEELING ISOLATED. I find this particular one very... hypocritical. "I'm feeling left out, so you all go away." You isolate it so you don't feel isolated...? Why? They were having fun, you can join in however you want, League has a hell of a lot of talking points beyond the gameplay such as artwork, business practices, lore, story, game design, etc. If your'e truly feeling that left out, speak up. If you're not heard, then speak louder. I'll take a step here and admit fault, I must have missed when people did speak up. OK? I screwed up. Since there's going to be uneasy topics no matter what's banned until there's a complete ban on speaking, i'll try to be more respectful and look at these kinds of things. which brings me to the NEXT topic on the list PISSING AND MOANING. This one... It's unacceptable, I'll admit it. My personal beef with this one being used is that it happens no matter what, someone is going to screw up somewhere at some point int time and someone's feelings are going to get hurt. That's the internet in a nutshell. I forgot about that and let myself get worked the hell up over this and I couldn't represent my distaste for all of this accurately. For now, I'll adhere to the banning since it's still fresh, but I would like to really dig at the root of the problem itself which, after somewhat long discussions, seems to be the community's lack of respect for each other. Something I've unfortunately lacked and hell I may still lack it but I'm human, I make mistakes. I'm still here, I'm still considering you friends so lets discuss this crap at some point. I will happily log dive later today and find examples. Second: Isolated: We're not isolating you, we're asking you guys to move to a channel where you all are still around and unisolated to discuss something that other people don't want to discuss. We're asking that you take the isolating discussion to somewhere else so that you guys can still enjoy the talk but also so that we can all still enjoy ourselves in the main channel. Missed when people speak up? Heck, you've been among the people reacting in a hostile manner when the mere mention of how much LoL dominates chat is brought up, much less asking for the subject to be changed. And in the past, when the subject was asked to be changed, the request was often mocked, ignored, or both. That's all I'm going to say for now because I need to be leaving soon, but yeah. I still think there's an issue here all around and shoving a topic to the side isn't going to solve it and i'd like to get at that issue as opposed to applying band-aids for the rest of this ride which, if I'm correct, could last another year or so. Because as it is, and this is incredibly selfish of me I know, your'e telling me I'm not allowed to talk about one of the extremely few things I actually have a base of knowledge about and actually love because it makes you feel uncomfortable. Again, I'm sorry it got to this point, that it makes you and other people feel uncomfortable, but you don't find it the least bit shameful that we've got to go to another room just to talk about something we love/enjoy? That's different. And you're asking someone who's been forced to move to another room for something that she loves/enjoys. So that argument isn't going to have much ground. Mercakete Posted February 9, 2014 Share Posted February 9, 2014 I have to agree with Joey here in that it's a good idea to attack the root issue and that the band-aid solution, though good, shouldn't be where we stop. The only problem is that in order for the root to be killed, each individual would have to resolve to be courteous to one another, even when it means laying aside his/her individual rights at times (i.e., "I have a right to react angrily because x.") Considering how lax the conduct rules of IRC is, this is probably not going to happen and even if everyone resolved to do their darnest to respect others above themselves, there's human error to take into account. Plus, this would be a long-term endeavor for each individual and not everyone would see it as a worthwhile goal. So as much as I'd like to see everyone respecting each other, I just don't see it happening and even in the best circumstances, not for a long while. Not only that, but I doubt I will be able to keep up with two separate topics as my ability to keep up with one has already been shown to be lacking. As a result, I plan to drop Alex.
