sorry to bring this up, and doubly so if i'm mistaken, but aren't you racist yourself? i remember there being a big topic where you said some "unchoice" words like last year or something.

No.

I don't vote for or support the BNP.

TVTropes forums are bad - i once saw someone openly displaying their diaper fetish

that's pretty much all I need to say

the site is okay.

if your curiosity must know

I originally saw a much longer video but you get the gist of it from it

I think he is pretty infamous or something, but I just saw this randomly

sad times (it's hard not to generalize the forums after this, but this is pretty much the worst I saw)

Those guys are just plain dicks a lot of the time and argue over the smallest things.

I regret nothing!

Its alright for trivia and such but other than that I don't like the site or its community much.. And for some reason they act like some character from some goofyass series I liked as a tween is a canon sue and often seem to treat it as fact on various relevant entries rather than opinion all because she's the new protagonist in a sequel of said series that wasn't well recieved when I thought that kind of stuff was suppossed to be confined in ymmv pages so its like what??

A lot of the trope names just sound so dumb and I don't see why anyone would seriously want to use them in a conversation outside the site.

...Also going by what you guys are saying it sounds like the forums were much worse than I thought its a good thing I looked very briefly seriously what the fuck

I appreciate it for giving names to tropes or concepts that I would otherwise have to tediously describe for myself every time I wanted to reference them. If you ignore/don't read the actual examples or visit the forums, I think it makes a great repository for tropes and clichés; the best around, at any rate.

I liked when it was new and everyone used and posted on it to refer to things in a "yeah, that's so true!" kind of way, instead of constantly referencing articles like they are laws and acting like it's an official source on anything.

This is fine when the word is something like 'spanner in the works'. You know. A real phrase. That doesn't need capital fucking letters.

But saying like... lazy example would be 'Nakama', which means 'unrecognisable Japanese word' to most people and you're like 'but it means circle of friends', so say 'circle of friends' then you cunt. And there's a few with really obtuse names - 'the Woobie'? Like who the fuck that doesn't read that site is going to know what that means. This is just of the like 30-60% of pages that actually are tropes, and aren't, like - here's a good example, they have a page for 'anticlimactic death'. They seem to feel it's anticlimactic if they don't get last words on their deathbed to their firstborn child. Being shot to death has been classified as anticlimactic to them.

I think that someone getting shot all of a sudden, with a certain feeling of randomness to it, can be kind of anticlimactic. I'm not sure if I can think of any examples of it, but I'm reminded of No Country for Old Men when Chigurh gets hit by a car towards the end of the film (though in that case he does not die). It's violent, but because it feels completely unplanned

Actually I can think of an example. In Cowboy Bebop, there's this one episode where Spike trains some mook in martial arts. They get attacked and the guy manages to make a really sweet dodge, and then gets hit by a bullet immediately afterwards. It's sad, but it's not really dramatic and kind of punctures the tension rather than ramping it up.

I do agree that getting shot is probably not normally anticlimactic, though.

That reminds me of the first time I encountered the phrase "ho yay". It confused me at first, because most people use ho interchangeably with slut. Then I found out that ho was actually being used as an abbreviation of "homoeroticism".

Well that, and the people who think the narrator in Lolita is a good guy you're supposed to sympathize with.

Edit: Huh, looks like the page on Lolita got cleaned up. Good job, TvTropes.

I don't know. I think there is value to tropes like the Byronic Hero, Complete Monster, Xanatos Gambit/Xanatos Speed Chess, and so on. Notable nuanced differences are The Chessmaster, The Trickster, The Manipulative Bastard and The Magnificent Bastard. A lot of these don't need capital letters but still. Concrete definitions with comparisons and contrasts are nice.

I enjoy participating there, the Forums have become the WebSite that I spend the most time in.

I would be lying if I said that there were never difficult days... but overall the good outweighed the bad.

A while ago, the Admin of TVT and some of the Moderators got fed up with all the "pedoshit" ,as they called it, and gathered a group of people in order to remove pornography, shameful content or anything involving sexual acts regarding minors and started either deleting it or severely altering relevant pages.

It is why there is no longer a KissxSis page, for example.

Google had even threatened to remove their advertisement if they had not done something.
