Pengaius Posted October 26, 2020 Author Share Posted October 26, 2020 Hey folks, post production Pengaius here because I've just remembered I forgot to formally explain the ironman rules for this game. So I'll do that now: This game because it is Pokémon does not have permadeath, which means that when somebody is out, they go sit on the bench forever, because get this, you cannot manually dismiss your units. Since there are only 6 unit slots in a given castle, if one of them loses they become a deadweight. While there is a way to permenantly unrecruit allies, to do so, you must make the castle that they are stuck in overflow (hopefully I'll never have to show this.) Also, individual Warriors can have more than 1 Pokémon, but I am going to bench any Warrior that has a single Pokémon faint, with the exception of Oichi and Corrin because I can't bench them, I'll bench their defeated mons and force them to capture new ones. Hmm. These guys are a bit tougher, and none of our Pokémon have super effective attacks on them, so its probably obvious what path we're going to take. Oichi: This means our Fire types should shine! Water types will be in for a long, hard battle though… What! This is an Ironman, I'm just following WWRD (What would Ruben do) then doing the opposite, works every time. Here's the team, and some words from Big Rik, and we are up. The Kingdom of Greenleaf Motonari: I’ve heard a lot about you… But I didn’t expect you to be this young. I suppose you need a bit of youthful energy in this rough old world. Maybe it’s time for my generation to call it a day… Motonari: Whew… No rest for the wicked, eh? Rest of the map, and does anybody actually click these? Combat Team moves up, while Terrible Suck Squad (out of shot) goes down. The enemy move towards the bottom right banner. Of note this vine grows and ungrows each turn (unless a mon is on it.) Oichi: All right, Lord Corrin! We won’t let you down! Now the Bad Unit plops onto this weird grass. Uhhhhh. Darumaka seizes a banner, while Eevee moves up a bit farther. The enemy move closer and Sewaddle seizes while Pansage tunnels. We move Eevee and Puff closer to the Snivy. Daru moves off the banner to bait Sewaddle. Snivy whips Eevee, but I don't catch it. Eevee lightbonks Snivy and Puff falls into an invisible pit and cannot move, yaaaaaay. Darumaka slams into Snivy, knocking it into Overgrow range, also Snivy can't move, it would have been a K.O if somebody didn't fall in a hole. Sewaddle, ignores our banner in favourof the one that Pansage could get next turn, the A.I in this game is sooooo dumb. Motoharu: We who use Grass type Pokémon shall not be defeated here! Blistering barnacles! If I don't block that banner it's Game Over for us. Motonari uses his Skill to buff Snivy. Hey, look a reference! References are funny right? OICHI'S PUFF WHIPPED BY MOTONARI'S SNAKE *NOT CLICKBAIT* Darumaka prepares to vaporise Sewaddle, but Sewaddle procs it's stealth skill (which I fail to get the shot of because suprise!) and avoids the attack. Eevee finishes Snivy, and Celebrate Top Speeds to the banner. Crisis averted. Sew#1bites Darumaka, and Pansage powers up to whip Eevee. Sew#2 demonstrates one of the A.Is biggest problems, in that they will NEVER move off of a banner, which is something you can exploit in a few defense maps and on 1 attacking map I might show off later. Puff climbs out of the pit and chips because it won't see any more action this battle. Darumaka destroys Sewaddle along with this guy's self-confidence. Eevee waits, so as to avoid Game Over. Curly This is the entire Enemy Phase. Item get. Banner get. Eevee yeets the sun at Pansage. Also the flower that Eevee steps on yeets it away. Needless to say we lose this banner. Darumaka closes in, and Eevee uses the Yeet Flower to perform a hit and run attack. Puff loots corpses for money. Pansage whips Eevee and Darumaka finishes the monkey off. All of this stuff happens in the next few turns, otherwise it's just movement. Eevee chips and Darumaka finishes. We get some extra money and Rikyu seizes. After battle statistics. Look at Rikyu's gains. Motonari: Surely now I can be left in peace? You are a more worthy Warlord for Greenleaf than I, Corrin. I ask only that you take good care of my beloved kingdom. Castle get. Soldiers get. And so, doth the Earth yet move. Anyway, new unit time. Mighty blow is a very useful skill to have on almost any mon, which is good. Pansage has Vine Whip, which is an attack that is good on small clusters of enemies but also sees some use as a 'corner clearer' when enemies camp banners. Melee lets Pansage punch adjacent enemies, when the enemy is hit by an attack, other than the user's own, it does very little and is non elemental, but it has some use as a chipping tool. Pansage evolves with a Leaf Stone, which we can only get from a random event, so that Pansage has little longevity. Adrenaline is a good skill, 'nuff said. Sewaddle has Bug Bite which has some use, but it isn't amazing. Grass Cloak is a situational defence buff which is neat. Sewaddle does not have much long term viability as it takes a while to evolve in this game. Brotherhood is neat. That is all. Stealth gives an RNG% chance to avoid attack when on the designated terrain, for Sewaddle it's grass, other Pokémon get this dodge when on sand or snow. It's a useful skill when it works, but it doesn't always work... Sorry to cut this so short, but I'm out of time. Stay buttery folks. This is the team for this map. Darumaka stays behind because of type disadvantage, the Sewaddles stay because they don't have supereffective attacks. A battle is a battle no matter where it takes place. At this point Panpour and Piplup move and jump on these switches, letting the water flow. Motochika: Defeat is only a matter of time unless you do something. It's a rout map this time, plain and simple. Map and Music. We move, that is all. Puff stands on the switch and the others move forward. if you are wondering how Pansage lost 2 HP, the fountain shoots water type damage at anybody who steps next to it, what a useful defensive measure. The enemy move closer. Pansage hits Piplup, , then Eevee Top Speeds to get into a better position, Puff moves I guess. Piplup hits Puff with Bubble, Motochika boosts Oshawott, and Panpour gets its boost, both of them Water Gun Eevee. Oh boy, what a turn. Pansage uses Vine Whip, to hit Oshawott and take out Wooper. Eevee bops Piplup, Celebrates and Quick Attacks Oshawott. Puff then chips Panpour and this activates Pansage's Melee for a little extra chip. Puff then finds some gold. Oshawott, Water Guns Eevee and Puff, triggering Panpour's Melee, Panpour then Water Guns Eevee and Puff as well, which actually gets them pretty low. Pansage whips Panpour, Puff chips and Eevee finishes, then we get an item. This happens and we win. Post battle results. Eevee is really getting up there. Motochika: But even though my castle is lost, my Pokémon will never leave me. Together we will resist the tides of fate. Motochika refuses to go to the bathroom. We get 2 very pretty Anime boys and a Chikamasa. Hey look! The Plot! Nobunaga! That's like, the Japan guy! *HINT HINT* You can now recruit Warlords. Anyway, new units: Crack Shot is a good skill for slow Pokémon with powerful moves, but it's always useful to have. Panpour is an alright 'mon, but suffers from needing a stone to evolve. Melee is there I guess. Eagle Eye is kinda sorta just a worse Crackshot. Yes it lasts longer, but it doesn't guarantee your hit, so it can't always be relied upon. Wooper, has pretty bad stats, but it's typing makes it very useful against Electric types. Water gun is a decent attack for it. It does get better when it evolves, and it doesn't take forever to evolve, but other water types are generally better than it in the meantime. Shout is a fairly decent skill that comes in clutch when you need it to. Piplup is pretty good, with decent enough stats, an alright movein Bubble, and a fairly good ability too. It won't take very long to evolve either if trained making it a pretty decent 'mon all things considered. We now go live to Rikyu for some training. Darumaka beats up the locals to get stronger. Maybe I'll take the Sewaddles to Ignis. On second thought, let's not do that. By the by, we can use the March command to move our allies into different Kingdoms. Sewaddle time. We get some cool new Items, the Power Orb is used to roll the gacha craft items, but we won't have access to that feature for most of the game, so it'll probably just collect dust. Blah, blah, limits of mortality, blah. Oichi: Pugilis, especially, is full of Fighting type Pokémon. They might be toostrong for Normal type Pokémon like Eevee and Jigglypuff… And I have a feeling these Warlords will try invading our kingdoms, too… If we don’t station Warriors to defend our castles we could be in trouble… Just be careful, all right? *HINT HINT* These guys will try to invade us from now on. The enemy move closer. You'll notice that this map is very small compared to the other maps we've been on so far. The electric tiles can only be crossed by electric types or flying/floating Pokémon. This makes the map very cramped for us but quite open for the enemy. We back away and the enemy pursue. Wooper blasts Starly and everybody else pulls back. Wooper takes a hit from starly on EP, and the enemy close in. We get some more hits in, Eevee K.Os Pichu, and Celebrate bonks Starly. Muneshige heals up with his Potion and we take a few hits, Eevee and Darumaka get paralyzed, this is going horribly. Oichi and Rikyu use their warrior skills to heal everybody up to full and cure the Paralysis. We get some more hits in anyway. I think this is going quite well. Uh-oh. UH-OH Well, uh fuck I suppose. Jigglypuff is dead. That's a reset. Same team as last time, except we take Sewaddle along as well for an extra body. I'll speed things along for now. We get some hits in, we take some hits. Healing and fighting. We K.O Muneshige, but I failed to cap it. Of note, Darumaka takes a water gun to the face. We get a few more hits and narrowly fail to K.O Mareep. Darumaka backs away because it's health is low. Sadly for us both Mareep and Pichu hit Darumaka, making Rikyu our first actual casualty. We fail to get the K.O on Panpour, but we do defeat Mareep and bonk Pichu. We take some hits, but nothing too major. We have a successful Player Phase and take out Panpour and Pichu. Eevee gets quite low actually. We finish off Shinx and that's a wrap. Post battle results, this one did not go as well as I'd have liked. Ginchiyo: Violight castle is yours to do with as you see fit. Ginchiyo: No, my conscience is clear. This battle did not bring shame upon our family name. We protected our honour and that is all that matters. Woo, victory. We put Muneshige in Fontaine and by keeping Sorin in Violight we cause the overflow thing, which allows us to dismiss Rikyu. Oichi: You… We keep bumping into you… Mitsunari: Looks like you’ve captured a whole lot of kingdoms now… Surely you’re not trying to run them all by yourself? Oichi: B-But Lord Corrin is the Warlord, the leader of our army. Delegating, is a feature that lets Warriors in Kingdoms automatically use their turns. We have Muneshige delegate Training in Fontaine. Next, these guys do a battle. These are the results. Haha! Yes, good thing puff held on for this long. Now we can finally ditch the deadweight. No. You don't. I think I've explained Perfect Links before, but I'll do so again now. A Perfect Link, is a Pokémon that a Warrior can reach a 100% Link Rating with. Most Warriors can have only one, but some can have multiple. Capacity is the final, stat of a Warrior, that I've saved explaining until now. You can have 1 Pokémon for each point of Capacity that a Warrior has. That is all. If you try to exceed Capacity you must release a mon (this is the only way to release Pokémon as well) Anyway, let's have a look at our new guys. Rally is always nice to have. I have already explained Panpour. Muneshige has Marksman, which is a nice skill to have. Additionally, he is a Special Warrior, so he can recruit other Special Warriors, Starly is a pretty good mon. Keen Eye is kinda useless actually, since so few attacks lower accuracy and since Starly is so fast. Statistically Starly is somewhat underwhelming, but it makes up for that as it promotes very soon. Since it can fly, it can cross impassable terrain, this is good. We getting Oichi a Mareep. Thanks, tutorial. Map and Music. We move, like so. Enemies move closer and the fluffy sheep jumps over. We K.O Pichu and bonk Carnivine. But now, its Linking time. We have to do a short QTE to get new Pokémon. We get Mareep 1st try, thank goodness. Now that we got our Electric Sheep, we fast-forward through the battle. After battle stats. So now Oichi leads with Mareep. Mareep is a big step up from puff, having better stats across the board, with the exception of HP. Thundershock is also much more useful than doubleslap, Static does exactly what it says and causes Paralysis when Mareep is hit sometimes. Mareep should also evolve soon enough. Now we fast-forward again. This stuff happens. Added Bonus is neat. Charmander, is a pretty good mon. It has alright stats, an okay move and evolves fairly quickly. Fortify good. For Tepig, see Charmander. This happens. Fontaine is delegated. Oh hey. Passwords. So, this game has a password system, and I will be ignoring it for the most part, however the only way to recruit Motonari and Motochika is to use a Password. So I am leaving it up to you guys whether or not I will use the password, I'll still probably show it off even if I dont use the Password for the run. On second thought, how about Chrysalia Oichi gets a flute, and gives us some advice, and we're ready to go. The team, for this map. Also, pretty boy says pretty words. The Kingdom of Chrysalia Poor, poor Sessai. 20 turn, rout map, not too bad, right? A Japanese bamboo clacker thing signals, and a ball falls onto what looks like a zen garden, this map is nothing if not aesthetically calming. Map (ignore the fact that I took this a little bit into turn 1, I forgot sorry) and chill music. The gimmick of this map is that these Pokémari balls fall every turn (max 4) and can be knocked away and deal damage to Pokémon in a straight line. Anyway, the enemy move closer and... This is way too good to pass up. Piplup, contributes to global warming. On the opponent's tur, Eevee takes a poison sting and we have a Pokémari ball tossed at us which almost kills Tepig. eevee's potion is stolen also. We dogpile and murder Sewaddle, while Mareep gets some damage on Spheal and Venipede. Piplup is sneaking along the side because I'm hoping for a good ball spawn. Mareep takes a some hits, and Starly takes one, but we pull through. Notably, Spheal does nothing as the AI always tries to avoid friendly fire, it doesnt go for Piplup, which raises a suspicion of mine. We use added bonus to try and score a burn (doesn't work) get some hits in, heal, then get a few more hits, Starly moves away, because Spheal would murder it and Piplup stays still, because of my aforementioned suspicion. We take some hits and Tepig gets poisoned. We mess up a Venipede real good, and Eevee celebrates by hitting Pineco, which activates Pineco's Jagged Edge, an ability that does chip damage as a counter, fun. Venipede 2 survives an ember and get's burned at the worst possible time. Tepig moves to shield Charmander, and Piplup confirms my suspicion, and shows the maps other gimmick. See on this battlefield, there are these hidden switches, if a Pokémon steps on one (unless its airborne) it gets fenced in, stopping it from moving or attacking for the turn they step on it and the turn after. These spots get randomised every time you go on the map and they are not just limited to the zen garden tiles, in short it's a big fuck you to the player, (you can't even see these tiles when defending this castle) fun right? This is only like the 5th worst map in the game too. Yoshimoto heals with his ability and bites Eevee, Venipede heals its burn and does chip damage to Eevee and Starly and Spheal is focusing on Mareep. Yoshimoto's skill Deep Breath is really annoying, but at least he cannot move for a while, also he has a Potion. Hope the title makes sense now. Mareep narrowly fails to K.O Spheal, but does paralyze, so there's that I guess. Charmander finishes Venipede, and Tepig starts taking potshots from behind a rock at Pineco. Eevee and Starly grab some items, I failed to cap them but I think they were gold. Pineco can't move yet and Paralysis procs, causing Spheal to auto-wait. We finally take out Spheal and start dogpiling onto Pineco. Pineco Potions, then steals Piplup's Potion as well, the fucker. We move around a bit so that nobody is in kill range, and thankfully Charmander inflicts a burn (Burns lower attack and paralysis lowers speed if you didn't already know) so the battle is all but over. Also Tepig goes into Blaze range from the poison damage which I found to be super funny. With that burn, Pineco now takes more damage than it deals during EP. Eevee chips and Mareep finishes for clear. Results. Oh that Yoshimoto, what a character. We get these guys, Fancyface goes to Ignis and the other 2 to Violight (I need the bodies so we don't get invaded). Anyhow, spotting a GG EZ victory Pansage beats some dudes up. also delegate Train. It is October now. This old dude comes up and gives us the results of his decades of research, all of which I have explained to you previous parts. Thanks Grandpa. It was at this point that I remembered to do the password thing, this was unfortunate as you have to wait for one month after entering the password until password events occur. . Speaking of months, I have decided that from now on there will be a 1 month interval between taking castles, because otherwise the updates may get too short. So from now on I will be doing 2 play-by-play battles, and the rest as summaries. 'kay good. We spot a familiar face in the wild, but first, Mareep and Eevee almost die in this battle because I forgot Machop was a fighting type, honestly if we got one fewer paralysis procs, I would have had to awkwardly explain why Eevee had to go to a Daycare upstate. But before we can get into the 2nd play-by-play, let's take a look at all the new units we got. Temperate, is useful sometimes. Venipede is actually pretty decent stat-wise, it's problems come from the fact that it's attack does virtually no damage to anything, the poison is neat though. Poison Point is static but for Poison not Paralysis. It can have a tough time evolving since it gains link so slowly, but it's evolution is quite strong. Quick Strike is one of the best tier 1 abilities in the game, extra move and flinch chance, sign me the fuck up. Spheal is quite a decent Pokémon, having high HP and Attack, but little else. Icy Wind is a powerful enough attack which has a chance to freeze, the most devastating status condition, its like Paralysis except you always fail the check. Deep Sleep is a terrible ability however, it heals you when you're sleeping, it blows when you're awake. Spheal evolves fairly slowly, so don't expect this one to get better very soon. I've already talked abut these guys' mons. I don't think I need to explain their skills as well. Fortify exists. Magikarp, is well... a Magikarp, it starts off being awful but is redeemed by it's evolution. In the main series, it's not that hard to evolve, with patience and switching but in this game it needs to be totally babied from day 1, to even have a shot at evolving. Splash is actually useless and the fish goes down in 2 good hits. It can only gain Link by proxy, and even when it does increase it can take ages for it to become even remotely close to evolution. The upside to this is that Gyarados is absolutely busted in this game, but it's just not worth it trying to evolve this thing when other Pokémon are useable now. We take a team to battle our old friend, but first, the people I'm bringing all need potions. I was going to bring the Wooper guy to shield to team from Mareep, but I decided that would be a bad idea because Carnivine would murder it. We jump-cut right into the action because I forgot to take shots of our turn 1, and the enemy are kinda kicking our asses. We land 1 out of 2 attacks and starly does not move because it fliched due to the guy with the 4 move Pokémon having the move + flinch skill. This is going terribly so far. At least we got a burn. Carnivine cures it's burn and Spheal gets hit a whole bunch. This is not going very well. Fortunately, a crit from Charmander frees up Spheal to heal and then weaken Mareep enough for a Starly crit to K.O, how the turntables. EP PP, also Rkyu, still has our Emerald Grace. EP We take out Rufflet, and move Starly out of range so it won't die. We do some more whittling down of Darumaka's HP, and Starly attacks for K.O but rolls terribly on variation leaving it with 1HP Charmander is in Blaze range. Spheal boosts it's range to grab a Potion, and Starly finishes. Results. Hmm? Our png shrinks back and another png replaces it. That is how promotion works. Aww, look Staravia is perched on his arm, can Berwick Saga do THIS Ruben? Staravia, is pretty strong, has decent HP, iffy but serviceable defense and a whole lotta speed. Wing Attack is a stronger Quick Attack, that can actually be Super Effective, the only downside is that it isn't neutral against Electric types, but we'll survive. Intimidate lowers the attack of all enemies within a radius which is pretty useful when you need it. Temperate exists. Carnivine is a pretty good Pokémon, Vine Whip is a decent move and Carnivine's stats are good across the board, except for speed. Levitate makes Carnivine a floater which is always a good thing. It doesn't evolve which lowers it's potential for lategame, but it's pretty solid on some maps. Quick Strike is always good. Rufflet is kind of just a worse Staravia that takes quite a while to evolve, but even when it evolves, it's very underwhelming for a litany of reasons. We usin the Fontaine shop, because I need me some potions. Hey look, terrible business practices. We sell some sellables and get some potions, I'd buy more but Mid-Potion fallacy. We train Piplup a little,delegate Violight to train and end month, because we can't delegate the kingdom that Corrin is in. We get ourselves some new units from the password event, I will show them off next time I suppose. 2 down 1 to go.
