By saying you don't like country or bluegrass you've cut off a bunch of suggestions I could have given. I'm a fan of that kind of music, also of Mexican norteño music which has similar themes but is more like mariachi music in sound, with lots of accordion and trombone.

I suppose I'm obligated by reputation to recommend Red Army Choir and other patriotic Soviet music, as I've done in all the other threads like this one. This song is my favorite of that genre lately, I'm sorry I can't find a Youtube link to show it off without requiring downloads. Here's

of the most famous entry into the WWII subgenre outside of the Soviet national anthem itself, and one of the best.

Sigh, Korpiklaani, Mayhem, Emperor, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Siebenburgen, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Yngwie Malmsteen, uneXpect, Voivod, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Venom, Arch Enemy, Carcass, Behemoth, Tengorak, Siska Kubur, Dethklok, Celtic Frost, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Rammstein, OOMPH!, In Flames, Burzum, Helloween, Cut Throat, Slayer, Anthrax, Wolfmother, Symphony-X, Voivod, Rhapsody of Fire, Scorpions, Carpathian Forest.

Go now.

You must really like those slavic princes...

What about video game music...? >_>

Yeah man, why is this always neglected? I've made a couple CDs of

that I have in my car. The only problem is that they don't fit in very well with any other kind of music I have, even classical.

So now all this thread needs to be complete are a few posts from freeknight. 'All your music suck shit!' 'So you wankers have to resort to this shit already?'

What are you talking about, I made tons of friends when I blasted the songs I mentioned earlier on the school computers and out of my phone.

It's possible the student body at my high school just had exceptionally excellent taste, but somehow I doubt that.

Yep, I like Don't Say A Word from them :). But that's the only song that I've really liked from them. Are there any others with similar sounds?

Huh, I don't know why you didn't like most of the others. Maybe try The Power of One?

Anyway, you seem like you're a girl who likes the right kind of music, so I'll help you out here. What follows is a decent list of some of the bands I enjoy, restricted of course to the types of music you seem to be interested in. I know I'm forgetting a ton though. Anyway many times I've got some link(s) to what I feel are either representative or their best song(s) [and optionally comments]:

After Forever - very similar to Epica, which you mentioned liking

Artrosis (

) - Polish band, also releases
versions of their songs

Blackmore's Night - All of their songs are fantastic. Just go, listen.

Catharsis - Russian power metal

- Hungarian folk metal

Dragonland - reminds me of Rhapsody mostly, not sure how you feel on that

- Swiss folk metal, I may go see them at Paganfest in late February if I can swing it.

Gamma Ray - one of the big names in early power metal, I won't even bother linking, and just assume you're aware of them

Grave Digger - I especially love their Poe songs, but the rest are fine too

Hammerfall - see Gamma Ray (also Stratovarius and Helloween previously mentioned in thread)

Lacuna Coil - I'm assuming like Within Temptation, your failure to list them was not being exhaustive, if not, correct this and listen to something by them

Lordi - Winning Eurovision should mean you've heard of them, but it never hurts to make sure

- Slovak band, Lord of the Rings inspired metal, sadly split up

- very rockin' Brazilian metal, you'll eat this up

- standard power metal

Queensrÿche - maybe too 80s for you...

Savatage - These are the guys who went on to do Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Beethoven's Last Night is an absolute masterpiece of an album, buy it now

Theatre of Tragedy (

) - Their style changed quite a bit over time. Singer went on to Leaves' Eyes, I believe.

X Japan - May be to cheesy for your tastes

- This should also be up your alley

Yousei Teikoku - They also have a side project Electric "Karen" Music Group (aka Denkare) that does songs for hentai games, some of them are

, really good.

You mentioned having some growling threshold, these may exceed it (others above may have too, I'm not the best judge anymore) but I still feel the following are worth recommending:

Avathar

- What happens when you mix Trance with Melo-death? Take a listen. :)

- There's an alternate version of this song with

- many songs have German lyrics (go figure) which may disappoint you

(
) - This is one of my favorite bands. Also, for your amusement, a cover of Blind Guardian's The Bard's Song - The Hobbit

Nekrogoblikon - for the novelty value if nothing else

Opeth

(
) (song 3) - Epic Lord of the Rings inspired metal. Not to be missed. If the growling really turns you off, stick to the instrumentals (ask me for names, I'll provide)

The Project Hate MCMXCIX

- They also do a neat cover of

I'll see you in another month.

Happy listening, good luck, don't forget to write etc etc.

Your musical compatibility with BadLobotomy is Very Low

Thanks for the massive list :). Glad you approve of my music taste (which are very "uncharacteristic" for women, I've been told).

I'm going to go through this slowly and edit this post as I go.

=========================================================================================

After Forever - Very Opera-y. Like nightwish (Tarja) mixed with Epica's very breathy voice. Will need to look more into this.

Hammerfall - Yes, I've heard of them (hammerfall) and love their music.

Lacuna Coil - Wow, I forgot to list them. Yes, I've heard of them.

- I think I've stumbled across them before and then forgot who they were and couldn't find them again. Thanks, that song is really good.

- Wow, I REALLY REALLY like this! It's sooo unique and interesting. Reminds me of Bullet for my Valentine and All that Remains.

Artrosis (

versions of their songs

Blackmore's Night - All of their songs are fantastic. Just go, listen.

Catharsis - Russian power metal

- Hungarian folk metal

Flowing Tears is a good one. Also, you mentioned Christian Rock - you might want to try Jars of Clay, especially their two latest albums (Good Monsters, and The Long Fall Back to Earth). Most of their songs are religiously neutral.

Edit: Have you ever tried Nine Inch Nails?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good bands. I like rock/heavy rock/metal mostly.

So groups like Kamelot, Nightwish, Disturbed, Hammerfall, Mudvayne, Nickelback, Three Days Grace, Three Doors Down, Papa Roach, Dragon Force, Firewind etc.

I also listen to some R&B and Pop. I will NOT listen to bluegrass, jazz, rap or country. Mainly things without drums/guitars (the electric kind).

Thanks in advance.

Chop Suey by System of a Down, or Plug in Baby - (Muse.)
