    Known Bugs

If you don't have a Member Badge or Allegiance selected, your member badge/allegiance may not display properly. In fact, I have no idea how you can have them NOT selected--and equally no idea why the failsafes don't kick in.

Update: Not having a Member Badge of Allegiance selected is very screwy. I dunno how to fix this right now.

If you'd like, you can set the allegiance to being a required field and I can force change everyone who doesn't have a selection to the default value.

  2. You might want to tag Vincent in his own thread about the badges.

Is there a way to modify the Ping system so that when you're typing somebody's name, that you can have it default your selection to the first option? I'd like to simply hit enter (rather than DownArrow then Enter) to select that person. If I type out @Jyosua and hit enter, I just get a line break (which is standard I guess) but it's the first (and in this case only) option there and I as the user clearly don't want to add a line break when I've fully typed out an alert.

I think that is done to prevent it overriding other "@blah" like text and I'd rather not mess with that.

If it is related to caches, then it has to do with them not working properly, not just too long a time frame. On larger threads it is incorrectly guessing the pages days later, even when you are the last person to reply to the thread.

    Just now:

    Clicked the "15 minutes ago":

I am thinking it has something to do with the number of posts on the page and incorrect calculation of the page numbers. It's not just Get Last Post. It's the "Jump to Post" button in quotes, too. This is on Page 19158:

As you can see, the quotes post is directly above it on the same page. When I click the jump link in the quote from the bottom post, it takes me to:

Despite the post being on the same page I was viewing at that time.

Cloudflare's caching works fine. But if it cached the whole page for a dynamic request, that would be a problem. That doesn't appear to be what's happening, as shown by the rule exception I added.

However, I really wish people would stop bitching about this. Yes, it could be related to calculating posts incorrectly. Guess what? The backend is still not done processing the posts. We're only about 30% done with that. Through no fault of our own, it takes a really fucking long time because this version of the forum software was built from scratch and the database schemas are pretty different. There's 4.6 million posts that need to be reprocessed, reindexed, recounted, etc. So hold your goddamn horses and wait until we get to a point where we might actually be able to narrow down what the problem is.

The same link now get me to page 229, still not page 230, which it should be

I think it's something related to the site cache, did you set it auto refresh once a week, at 0 AM of Monday?

It could be related to caching, but that would be at the CDN level and the cache time is fairly short. I added an exception to this particular query string; maybe that will help. I've still never seen it happen though.

  5. Hello all. A couple updates:

    • I made a lot of skin changes to the dark skin. It should be mostly fine now. Take a screenshot and post it here if you see something weird.
    • Turns out I broke notification e-mails a day or so ago. I fixed that now.
    • Turns out I also broke registration at that same time. That is also fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

    It's like this

When I click to General US Politics, link https://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?/topic/56082-general-us-politics/&do=getNewComment

    It goes to https://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?/topic/56082-general-us-politics/&page=226#comment-4678651

It's page 226, while it should goes to page 230, the last page at the moment.

Aha, that's your problem. That link gets the first unread comment in that thread. The link that says "8 Hours Ago" gets the actual last post in the thread.

The font on actual posts is too dark/the background isn't dark enough. The contrast is pretty low. It is technically readable, but needs more contrast IMO. Feels muted, like it's low opacity. Compare to the shade difference between background and text on light skins. I'd rather the block/post/main body background be darker rather than text lighter, though. Less to edit that way and looks better.

The screenshot points out that the post area is still white (fixed as of this post), and that the text doesn't work on all surfaced (still almost invisible in places; look at the "Notify me of replies" switch)

I already changed it. There are still a couple places where the background and text are too close in color, but those will get fixed later.

  8. If it makes you feel any better: our number of sent e-mails right now is very low, because I changed every single member's settings to switch to inline. I have to wait to see how our numbers are once everyone logs back in and reconfigures their settings before I can make an informed decision as to whether or not we should turn that feature back on. There is a small chance that it was the bulk of our e-mails during previous releases. If that ends up being the case, I might be able to turn it back on and leave it on until it becomes an actual problem again.

Numbers. Especially with three or four new games coming down the pipe, that's a lot of members, with a lot of posts, a lot of quotes, a lot of information in those emails... that's a whole hell of a lot of strain on the web server, SMTP server, etc. You literally don't understand what you're asking for. And that's before you even get into what happens if you post in... uh, whatever the "crazy" board is here.

Yes, exactly. We had our default settings misconfigured so that everyone had that feature on and we hit our daily max of 10,000 e-mails in about 12 hours. Our max has since been raised, but that's even more of a reason to disable you from receiving e-mails for literally every single little thing that happens.

We don't even handle sending our own e-mails anymore. We sent so many during the new game release peaks that I had to outsource them to a company that charges per so many e-mails, without the content following feature being fully utilized.

I'm pretty sure Fire Emblem Warriors is also a spin-off.

Unless I'm an idiot or something.

Fire Emblem Warriors is a new game and, as I just mentioned, we don't put new games in subforums.

yeah, i'm only familiar with creating websites w/javascript and maintaining them; i've never had to work on anything with a server (or at least, a large scale server) before, so i can only imagine haha

Have to start somewhere. Hell, I started learning web stuff with the basics; HTML and CSS, then eventually PHP and JavaScript. The only reason I got into server stuff was because of Ragnarok Online servers and this site. These are big reasons why I ended up working as a Software Developer for my main job.

Maybe TMS#FE could be the founding member of the spin-off section?

Wouldn't make much sense to be the only one there. I think Vincent's idea of putting it into General FE is fine until the other spinoffs are not "new" anymore .
