I enjoy having all my notifications from all the sites I'm associated funneled to one convenient place. Some of us be crazy like that.
That's what desktop notifications are precisely for. You could potentially have dozens of topics you're following and hundreds of replies to them, which means hundreds of individual e-mails per day.

I think he means he wants notified in real time when someone replies to a thread he is following.
... But by e-mail?

I'm sure this will go like every other forum upgrade we've had. A bunch of people will piss and moan about how the old software was better until they get used to it and then the same thing will happen after the next upgrade.
Amazing how accurate this is.

Constant notifications.
Uh, I don't know what you're referring to. Which options on the notifications page? You need to be specific.

We've traditionally never put brand new games into subforums. Making a 3DS section would make sense if it were older, but the Gaiden remake isn't even out yet. It won't go into a subforum for quite a while, so we'd only be saving 1 space. Basically the same for the new spinoffs. Once they are older, we'll probably do that.

Pros: No more brief downtime in the mornings when I first come online, security stuff, the twitter-esque banner things are kinda cool
Cons: Plaintext editor is gone, editing spoilers is now a pain, don't really like how it autoconverts Youtube links to embeds
Downtime was probably due to backups. I switched to another solution and while I did notice some slowness, I was able to actually access the site during that time.

There are things I like and things I don't. The search feature is one of the things I don't. Worst of any software I've seen, including older versions of IPB.What type of search did you want again?
5 hours ago, Freohr Datia said:don't mind it tbh! I know Jyosua's fixing all the issues that are still around and ignoring those, the forum's got neat new features to it and ip chat is finally gonna get replaced by something massively superior (of course I guess that has nothing to do with the actual update~)
IP Chat being replaced is a combination of IPS discontinuing the service and both IPS4 and Discord having very useable integration and APIs. It probably wouldn't have happened without the forum upgrade, to be quite honest. IPB3 and below was the biggest mess of spaghetti code you can't even imagine.

I purposefully disabled a few of the e-mail notification options when I went through and fixed them. Which ones were you looking to enabled?

It doesn't appear because you're using HTTP instead of HTTPS. It will show up on the HTTP version of the forums.

Code blocks have just broken so that they show all on one line with horizontal rule instead of preserving whitespace. Opposite of intention, I think. They worked yesterday.
Example:
a[data-action="quoteComment"], a[data-action="editComment"], a[data-action="defaultStream"], a[data-action="markSiteRead"], a[data-role="shareComment"] { background-color: #222; box-shadow: 0px 2px 0px; font-weight: bolder; padding: 5px 10px; border-radius: 3px; filter: brightness(2); color: #547d54 ! important; } a[data-action="quoteComment"]:hover, a[data-action="editComment"]:hover, a[data-action="defaultStream"]:hover, a[data-action="markSiteRead"]:hover, a[data-role="shareComment"]:hover { color: #ad1457 ! important; } .ipsBreadcrumb li { overflow: visible ! important; }
Edit: Huh, it fixed itself? Nevermind.
might have been a CSS loading error from the CDN

Pale Moon is a bad browser. They don't even support the Content Security Policy upgrade-insecure-requests for HTTPS, which we are using to handle user-posted content. The developer has a very backwards approach to how web development works; i.e. doesn't want to conform to w3c standards. I would recommend you use a different browser. We will support any of the big guys.

got paid for it already anywaybtw is source (bbcode) posting gone for good now? this mandatory wysiwyg is kinda weird
Yes =_=
It will actually respect BB Code if you type it manually, but there's no BB Code editor anymore.

I am annoyed at how many administration options are gone or hidden.
Other than that, I think we can get it pretty close to how it used to work.

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but sometimes a pause icon appears on my tab of the site, and I don't know what it means. It usually appears if I haven't looked at the tab for a while, and when I click the tab it disappears. Clicking the icon does nothing, and hovering over the tab doesn't give any details.
I use Chrome if that matters.
That simply indicates that the tab is no longer polling for updates. You won't get any notifications from it, if you had them enabled.

I'm currently working on the default green skin in-between working on backend server maintenance and tasks. I think I can probably have one up before the end of tomorrow night (PST).

After this is done, can you see about making it possible to view all of a user's posts in a particular thread? I've found how to search a word by a user in a thread, but I want to get every post they made there, regardless of contents. Used to be able to do this by clicking "# of replies" on the forum index. It brought up a window with the users who had posted and the number of replies each had made, and if you clicked the number, you could view them all in a search result.
I and every mafia player would very much like to be able to do that. Currently, I can't even do it with URL hacks because using no search terms jumps back to the advanced search instead of getting every post that fits the filters.
I feel like there's probably a way to do this that nobody has found yet. At the very least, none of our old posts were searchable and that will be fixed with this reindexing.
2 hours ago, Elieson said:Jyo, do you have access to the old data still? Would it be a stretch to apply a user's old "Friends" to their "Following" list? That'd be pretty close to the same thing, I'd suspect.
We intentionally didn't do that because you would be flooded with new notifications. The option was given, but it would have had consequences that were undesirable.

Not easily.

We traditionally removed post counts to prevent people from having ePeen wars over posts. However, it's a good amount of work and if people act up we'll just have to warn the crap out of them.

It does.
On a side note, we're now rebuilding the site's search indices. This should make all of our data searchable.

I know that, but we are still sending you hundreds of e-mails. That costs money. E-mails for stuff where people quoted you? Sure, I can understand that. E-mails for every reply that might not even concern you? No. We are not enabling that.
