I understood that OP is asking if it's possible to do the thing where you pick a name and it gets referred to in-game by that name. Wouldn't have to create battle animations if you don't want it to be a combat character, just import the map animations from FE7. The hard part would be the name bit and creating a [Tactician] command (or whatever the actual syntax is) for FEditor, which is probably very complicated.
EDIT: Creating a custom class doesn't require replacing an existing one, just repoint and expand the class table. There's guides around but I don't have to time to find them.

I'm pretty sure that's called a Shin Level.
I thought a Shin Level was skill and luck only.

Spoiler code is as follows:
Your spoilered text here
In regards to your hack, all I can offer are my services as a proofreader; perhaps we can discuss your story as well, however.
-
I'd say the book should go to Dart, since he's restricted to axes. Geitz and Hector get bows and swords respectively, which are pretty accurate. And no, Vaida will not show up in Cog of Destiny.
First order of business: Merlinus promotes!
Well, somebody wanted you, so yeah.
The crew; Eliwood and Lyn stayed home, and Legault came along because for some inexplicable reason, we're almost out of lockpicks.
End of turn 1. Prissy goes north.
Well, there goes the first promote!
I anticipated this would happen...
...and planned accordingly. We're getting Karel; I hope no one's too dismayed by this.
LAST OF THE VARL BERSERKS! RAWR!
Fiora shows her disdain for WTD by critting this wyvern.
Heath gets a lousy level killing the northern wyverns.
The southern team, consisting of Raven, Lucius, Fiora, Rath, and Legault, are knocking on the front door. And in some cases, sending projectiles through it.
Defense is nice, but...yeah.
"OPEN, IN THE NAME OF-er, Raven, who are we again?"
"Just open the damn door, Lucius."
It takes Rath, Fiora, and Raven, but this hero goes down under the onslaught. Would have gone faster had I remembered to give Raven a swordslayer. Assuming, of course, we have a swordslayer.
The snow's stopped and the wyvern reinforcements are unceasing.
Keeping Legault out of combat.
Canas heals Heath up and gets A staves.
Prissy 2 gud.
Raven better.
Really?
3 more wyverns attacked, but fortunately didn't connect. She gets a lousy level.
They're going for the treasure! Stop them!
Who wanted this guy, again?
Trying to show off the southern formation before the enemy turn begins. Raven will own the enemy hero with Lucius's support.
Not too bad. Maybe we should throw him the speedwings?
Enemy hero no match for Ravin' Raven.
Lucius crit-kills and...ok, speed's nice.
There's many who tried to prove that they're faster
But they didn't last and they died as they tried
Bleh.
Kenneth's longbow archer squad has gone MIA.
Meanwhile, elsewhere...
Uh....oops?
I swear, I'm good at this game...
All part of the plan, since Legault's still coming up from the south. I should have just taken him north and stolen the thieves' lockpicks.
First berserker crit!
Those thieves ain't going nowhere!
Although Kenneth might have words to say about that.
Plan! I have one!
Rath lured out the swordmaster in front of the throne. I did savestate, just in case, but I forgot Rath is awesome.
Last of the wyverns gets flambeed.
Legault nabs this guy's lockpick before he can escape, and Heath OHKOs him.
Rebecca chips, Raven rescues her, and Geitz finishes off the swordmaster...
...allowing Rath to...well, he was supposed to chip the boss so that Heath could level, but SOMEONE didn't get the memo.
Takin' back what's rightfully mine.
...Really?
...Really.
Sorry, Phobia, I did try to get him to level 20.
Fin. No supports gained on this map.

Nope. Just one chapter like this. If I did three in a row it would become stale and boring quickly. I think one relatively short chapter would be best.
I think that was referring to you triple-posting this topic.
-
He means that the ROM needs to have those spaces open, which they are in vanilla. If you don't see a bunch of FF's, then you've have to move the information there somewhere else before installing the patch.
-
Sure it is. There's a supports module in Nightmare; look at Supports Compatibility Editor, and change the Initial Support Count under the relevant Support Pointer. 81 for C support, 161 for B, and 241 for A.
-
(cries that you didn't train eilwood in the arena)
NOT SO FAST
I had a savestate from just before the end (just in case I forgot to buy some ultra-important weapon and someone screams at me). So I reverted to that. Instead of Fiora killing Linus, she gets her final level at the arena.
YOU WANT ME TO TRAIN ELIWOOD? I TRAINED ELIWOOD SO HARD, HE STILL KINDA SUCKS!
Then I trained Rath too, for good measure.
Dart killed Linus and got a nice level.
Canas got some levels from healing (and also B staves).
Some supports: Priscilla x Heath C, Geitz x Dart C (this is one of the stupidest supports I have ever read, incidentally), Priscilla x Raven C, Ninian x Eliwood C, Rebecca x Dart B, and Eliwood x Hector B
Save: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gmz7lgbqjd84rjk/1235%20Fire%20Emblem%20%28U%29.sav?dl=0(should be the same, but reposting just in case)

Commenting screenshot; it's quicker for me to read through, and I simply don't have the time to watch videos.
Rath's the lowest leveled; it was a toss-up between him and Heath, but Heath has slightly better growths in the useful areas.
There's still 1 left in case.
The crew, plus Eliwood and Ninian. I figured I could train Eliwood up a bit.
Enemies are getting tough, so I take whatever opportunities I have to train my guys without fear of reprisal.
Meanwhile, we have NO HEALING STAVES WHATSOEVER. Heath goes on a supply run, taking some extra armor to avoid being killed by the hero.
For better or for worse, the hero most likely won't come, since this merc won't die on EP.
Why yes, I do like living dangerously.
Dart on a forest with a swordreaver is enough to take on the mercenaries to the southeast.
This is the only guy that can get through Heath's souped-up armor.
I forgot Geitz doesn't move until in range. Looks like desperate measures will be necessary.
I GAVE YOU THE DROPS, YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARD.
Still, at least it's a good 1-stat level.
Not shown: Rebecca failing to one-round this guy by missing an 88.
Prissy gettin' some sweet sweet anima experience.
Yeah, it wasn't such a great idea. The merc hits him in return, but doesn't double.
Got speed, don't care.
Gotta protect Becca! Raven moves in to fill the space.
Merc thinks Raven's the best target and pays for his temerity. Raven gets D axes.
One of these things is not like the other.
...Fuck.
Dart places himself at the mercy of Geitz.
On a completely unrelated note, how on earth are we supposed to know Dart recruits Geitz?
I buy 4 staves.
Curse you, Lucius!
Uh...I mean...Way to go, Lucius!
Eliwood breaks his rapier in a spectacular fashion. I hope no one was planning on using a hammerne on it.
Rath needs strength.
STILL LIVING DANGEROUSLY
Geitz's tender mercies prove not to be so tender after all.
Uh oh. Forgot about this guy. This is bad.
On a happier note, Dart's recruited our last safe unit. I think this is the first time I've ever used Geitz.
Becca, with Ninian's help, takes out a wyvern from her ballista.
Heath gets a weird level, while Lucius's is typical.
Clearing out the riff-raff. Raven still hasn't gotten backfired on, despite having only 9 luck.
...DAMNIT!
It's a good thing I savestated before Raven attacked the wyvern, eh?
A few rns later...
Not risking the axe here, with 2 enemies about to attack. Still, one annoyance down and an Elfire for the pile.
Lucius getting good.
Bought a bit of everything. If you're wondering where the cash came from, there was a white gem in the convoy.
I've largely ignored him till now, but this hero needs to go. Unfortunately, he's tanky as hell and doubles Heath and iron lance!Fiora.
Raven's handling things fine up north, taking out a pirate and 2 mercs, and breaking his iron sword in a beautiful, if redundant, fashion here.
I used up Fiora's slim lance here; if the hero moved first, she wouldn't get doubled, and if the merc moved first, she wouldn't ORKO. Unless she crit. Which she didn't.
Title for GRRM's last book: A Whirlwind of Axes.
Yay! More money! Also, a horde of pirates and wyverns.
Prissy, aren't you supposed to be fast?
Fiora nabs Rath's promotion item and flies out of that hero's range.
He...barely survives. Wow.
Yeah, Raven's reduced to using a longsword, despite there being absolutely no horse units on this map.
All loot obtained.
Not bad. Speed is much appreciated.
A perfect level? That's useful for the final chapter, I suppose.
Rebecca breaks the ballista taking out a wyvern.
Raven x Lucius B support.
Fiora finishes off a merc that Rebecca chipped earlier and gets a very nice level.
Eliwood gets a redundant critical. Again.
I wanted to feed the kill to Heath, but he actually had a chance to miss, and I didn't want a repeat of what happened on turn 1.
Worst level of this chapter right here.
He gets doubled. Why did I do this!?
SHUT UP I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING
*exhales slowly*
Not doing too badly at all.
Actually, I lied. THIS is the worst level this chapter.
Geitz's killer axe is going to run out soon, and besides, I don't want him taking all the kills. Time for a retreat from this conga line of pirates.
Becca crits a wyvern out at sea. Beautiful.
Also beautiful!
Becca crits ANOTHER wyvern.
Man, everyone's doing great now!
...uh, ok, I swear, THIS is the worst level.
While waiting for the wyverns to finish spawning and the pirates to meander over, I decide to get some extra gold and train Rebecca up at the arena, with the help of Ninis's Grace.
These are the total levels she got. I also went shopping with the silver card; unless someone purposely drops/sells them, we should be good on the weapon front. I did not visit the secret shop, however. Didn't think it was necessary.
Other people got levels, and Fiora's ready to promote. Heath can get a whip next chapter if Fiora visits the village early on; otherwise, he can use the earth seal, but I'd rather sell that. I propose that she uses swords as much as possible, since she didn't get the body ring, and leave Heath the lances. IIRC there's about 10k cash left + the seal, and if there's too many weapons some can be sold for no net loss.

Apparently. It's Blanchammer's second-to-last post.
You also need to train Eliwood and Lyn to lvl 15, if it's not done yet.

Berlliarde is a dude?
I KNEW I wasn't the only person who thought Berlliarde sounded female! In your face, Ghast!
Also, I'm not sure if this is really spoiler-y or not, but
Gillian/Naillig/Redahli is female
-
Glad to see this come out! However, I'm confused about this statement:
Critical hits now do 2x damage instead of 3x (I don't know how, but this made the weapon triangle str/def bonus/penalty for reaver weapons 2 instead of 1, so take this into account when calculating damage)As far as I know, reaver weapons have always doubled the effects of WTA/WTD. Or did you mean it's been doubled again?
Looking forward to playing this, though.

They're sinking into the snow/floor, duh. The real question is, who's playing Jumanji? -
In FE7, change 40 18 at 292E6 to C0 46.
080292E4 0048 lsl r0,r1,#0x01 @damage is stored in r1. lsl = logical left shift = multiply by 2^1 = 2
08029eE6 1840 add r0,r0,r1 @add the number at r1 (the original damage) to the number at r0 (original damage*2) for a total of (original damage*3).
Zeroing out this second command leaves it at 2x damage. If you want it at something else, like 1.5x or 2.5x, that's gonna be a little more tricky.
In FE8, do the same thing at 2B528.
Does this mean I'm a wise sage now?
-
But seriously, Oliver in this game.
What a Twist.
What the dickens? How dare you say that!?
-
I barely remember this LP, much less an incoming blade lord.
Still, nice to see you back!
-
Details are important. What exactly did you do, and what kind of errors are you getting?
-
If he think loli is the worst fetish on the Internet, then he sure is.
I've done so far in the darkness of the Internet that I consider it once of the tamest thing you can find, especially if not combined with anything.
I mean, there could be a futanari in the game (There isn't, right ? Right.. ?)
Nah, just lots of calamari.
-
Joshua as a Halberdier. Imo this is a... weird idea
Other than that, looks cool
It'd be even more with screenshots showing a real parting away from the original story
The class is just a renamed soldier.
-
I think you'll need to be a bit more specific. What did the error say, exactly?
-
I had growth max variance set to 25%, and I still have several units with >100% res growth. Am I misunderstanding how this is supposed to work or is this a bug?
You're misunderstanding. It sums up the original growths, then adds/subtracts a value <= max variance, then distributes.

The writing is out if this world good. I honestly think it is superior to even the most polished and well-known hacks out there, like The Last Promise or Corrupt Theocracy.
like The Last Promise or Corrupt Theocracy.
Corrupt Theocracy.
Corrupt Theocracy
What.
On topic, I haven't played this hack yet, but it's on my list. Judging by the responses so far, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

FE8 (Master Version) LP
in Let's Play/Streams
Posted · Edited by Tequila
Hello, everyone!
I'm sure you missed me and my LPs terribly, so I'm going to rectify that. I'll be playing a reskin of FE8 called Master Version, by Bright Vega. The hack's topic can be found here. The objective is to make FE8 more difficult without just inflating stats; I hope the author has succeeded in this regard and look forward to playing this.
I'll be playing Ephraim hard mode, which is supposed to be difficult. It should be noted I've not played this before, so any, uh, surprises will be, well, surprising. I'll almost certainly use savestates, but I'll try to minimize their use, and I'll also give a summary of what's different at the end of each chapter.
Without further ado, let's master this version!
That sounded better in my head.
So, we have a slightly modified title screen. It tells us we're playing something different from vanilla. I approve.
The menu backgrounds have been changed, and I gotta admit, that looks spiffy.
I will, as previously mentioned, be playing on difficult mode.
The text hasn't been changed as far as I can tell, so I'm just skipping through the cutscenes. There's also a nice background for the chapter title, although I caught it a bit late (I'm guilty of mashing the space bar waaaay too often).
Our enemies are the standard two fighters and O'Neill, so I won't show placement. I can't tell if these guys have been nerfed or if they were always this shoddy, but either way, they won't pose much of a problem. Also, notice the new background here as well! I'm not a HUGE fan, because it's sometimes hard to read the white text on the mostly-white background, but it's not a big issue, and the fact that Vega changed it at all is a nice touch.
O'Neill, on the other hand, got a bit of a boost to his stats. Eirika can't double him anymore! In exchange, he gave up his name for the generic-sounding "Commander", and for some inexplicable reason has A in all physical weaponry. He also drops some gold, which is nice.
On our side, Eirika seems to have gained a few new items. The slim sword needs no explanation, and it's nice to see the rapier's got some more uses, but what's this Star Seal nonsense?
Tada! It gives +1 to all stats. Not overpowered, but a nice item to have when you're trying to level up some of the newbies.
Eirika also starts out with E swords. Nothing new there. I like the vulnerary icon, incidentally.
Seth's also got a surprise in the form of an Angelic Robe. I think Eirika would be the candidate for it at the moment, but I'm going to hold off using it for a bit. He also has a silver sword in place of a steel sword, and-hang on, 9 movement? I'm not sure this is a great idea, but I'm going to reserve judgement for now.
The usual shenanigans for the prologue. Moving Eirika here allows her to...
...crit-kill the two fighters on EP 1. She does take a hit, but in vanilla, if she's on the forest, O'Neill won't hit her.
That being said, I heal up just in case this beefed up
O'NeillCommander pulls of some bs. I'm not going to savestate on the prologue now, am I?But no bs ensues. Eirika crits for the win and gets a nice level and some gold.
All this information is taken from the text files kindly provided in the download. I'm not double-checking them in Nightmare.
Growth Changes:
Eirika: Str +5, Def -5, Res +5
Seth: HP +10, Skl -5, Spd +5, Def -10, Res +10
Bases Changes:
Eirika: Str +1
Seth: Skl +1, Spd +2, Lck -1, Def +4, Res +2, Mov +1
Promoted Unit Caps Changes:
Great Lord (F): Str +1, Skl +1
Paladin (M): Spd +4, Def -1, Res +3,
Weapons Changes:
Slim Sword: Might +1, Crit +10
Silver Sword: Rank -1, Might -1, Hit -10, Uses +5
Rapier: Hit +5, Uses +10
Silver Lance: Rank -1, Hit -5, Uses +5
Iron Axe: Weight -2, Uses +5
Enemy Growth/Bases Changes:
None.
Thoughts:
You took Seth, arguably the best character in the game, and made him and his class even more OP. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. Iron axes having less weight makes things easier for Ross when he arrives, I suppose.
Our boss again has some cash, and the two soldiers traded in their iron lances for some two-range weaponry and droppable pure waters.
They're still shit, though.
Oh, hello! A and S ranks get some additional bonuses, detailed below, so this makes this guy slightly more dangerous.
Eirika runs towards the fighter. Seth chills in the background.
Will have to see whether their bases were changed.
Eirika gets a meh level.
Gilliam and this soldier demonstrate their incompetence. Some more than others.
Franz was supposed to get the kill from Gilliam's chip; unfortunately, he'll probably have to take some damage now.
BOTH OF YOU ARE DISGRACES TO YOUR RACE!
Gilliam attempts to redeem himself.
Hang on, something looks different about these guys...
...Yeah, probably not gonna use this guy.
Apparently I'm going to need these.
Neener neener neener blah!
Forgot to free up his inventory beforehand. I dropped the 4-dose vulnerary.
Utterly useless.
Seth drops Eirika in front of the boss, he attacks her, and she ORKOs him for a nice level.
Money and more money!
Growths:
Gilliam: Str +10, Skl +10, Res +5
Franz: Hp -10, Str +10, Spd +5, Luk +10, Def -5
Bases:
Gilliam: Con -2
Promoted Unit Caps:
Great Knight (M): Str -1, Skl +3, Def -2, Res -1, Mov +1
General (M): Str +1, Skl +1, Spd -1, Res -3
Weapons:
Iron Sword: Uses +4
Iron Lance: Weight -1, Uses +5
Enemy Growths/Bases:
Knight: Base HP +3, Def growth +2
Ranks:
A rank gives +1 damage and +5 hit
S rank gives +1 damage, +10 hit, and +5 crit.
Thoughts:
Nothing too drastic changed here. Pegasus knights/Amelia become a tad more dangerous because they don't get weighed down as much by iron lances, which is kinda nice.
