  1. Being good at Vanilla Lunatic, Lunatic+, and Apotheosis are all separate things. I wouldn't say that I'm a top of the line Lunatic player (mediocre to below average tbh), but I do have a large enough ego to boast my accomplishments for Apo. You might find yourself successful in a different part of the game--maybe it's streetpass or Apo. Maybe you and a friend find a secret way to cheese double duel that nobody knows. But you shouldn't close a door for success just because you aren't gifted in only one portion of the game. And on top of that, Alastor, Ownagepuff, and many others play Apo completely different than I do. They're all skilled in their own ways when doing the map, and I prefer my methods, but you can also find success in a niche way. You might not be very knowledgeable about no dlc/no rally, but you may be knowledgeable in yes dlc/no braves (as you probably know who I'm talking about lmao). It's not that any of us are smarter than each other, but we didn't close the door of success because we falter on a different aspect of the game.
  2. If you know that it's subjective, then you should start by telling us what you want and like. Things like "I really want X!Severa to do Y; how can I be successful with this, and how will that affect Z!Brady, her partner." There is no list of absolute best things; you already knew this. Some people have specific pairings they always do or simply like them so much (example: some people always marry a certain spouse). Give us information on what you definitely want, then give us information on how you want to be successful. We will sculpt your perfect world, but we don't do that out of nothing. We need your personal requirements to start. All we know is you want galeforce--which is heavily limited information as that only affects 2-3 pairings.
  3. If we put Olivia on the table as an offensive dancer, then you know she isn't getting any kills for Galeforce. That's saying that Maribelle and [especially] Sully are highlighted just as much as Olivia (regarding KOs for Chrom's partner). And I wouldn't even say that Sumia isn't really that great compared to Maribelle overall.
  4. I've autobattled normal/classic (first turn pair up and recruit Kellam naturally since he tries to talk and can't) to completion. I've autobattled normal/casual (no pair up, but still had to recruit Kellam), and they can't beat Endgame. They start heading bottom of the map perpetually fighting until they die. I won't bother doing it again.
  5. "Best" comes down to an opinion. I don't think you can say without a doubt that a physical Inigo is better than a magical one. "Strictly better than Storm Crow" doesn't really apply to FE:A units.
  6. He means is DLC, rallies, certain weapons, challenges are on or off the table.
  7. Pairing thread for all generic question; I recommend going here and asking more specifically what you want. "Do what you like" is actually accurate. It's just a matter of how much you are willing to learn about the game. http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=42247&page=253 Streetpass thread for sole purpose of online http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=53042 In game players and playlogs to help expedite your in game experience http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=40300 http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=52170 There is no post that will give you the "best" of everything since that doesn't exist.
  8. I'll disagree with needing fortify every turn; v/v definitely seems plausible on paper right now for no dlc/no braves 100%. Then again, I'm also running 6 one hp vengeance users. So I have that going for me.
  9. Certain units that seem critically important on certain challenge runs can be completely worthless in another. For example, I use Ricken!Severa for no dlc/no rally 100%, but she would be worthless, unusable trash [hyperbole] for no dlc/no braves 100%. I won't say that one challenge was actually harder than the other; both had their ups and downs in difficulty (and I had more experience under my belt for the latter planning since it came after the former). What does that say about Ricken!Severa? Not much, imo, you should just take it for face value that characters thrive in different conditions and different setups. To say that Gaius!Noire holds this extra value doesn't mean much when a) the challenge in specific isn't being used and b) that units value in the challenge run might be obsolete in the run actually being made.
  10. Finished grinding out the calcs and turn limits for waves 4/5. Starting up a new game for my [probably and hopefully] last Apo challenge.
  11. The only Avatar someone might consider recruiting is a rally bot (which is the exact opposite of a threatening team). You can take the item shop route which just has a bunch of cool items that other people can buy from you to ease the grinding. Or, you can take the "challenging" route which can be found here: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=53042 Has no dlc + yes dlc teams and discussions. You could also consider sending a pm to those 2 who took up most of the topic discussion as they're the more well versed in the topic.
  12. Something else you should keep track of is the number of faced units you are using. If you allocate X unit slots of your 20 to 2 rally bots, Chrom, Olivia, Avatar, Sumia, and 6 rescue bots (arbitrary number, it's personal preference), then you have room for 8 faced kids. A few kids aren't even potentially fielded in the first place, so why bother having those kids exist/have a parent you want elsewhere? Who cares about Inigo's potential if he isn't used? And you might feel comfortable using 3-4 rally bots or be rescue heavy and use 7-9 bots for that. You should definitely reconsider what opportunity costs means for your playthrough. If you are dropping Severa (as an example, not as a recommendation), then it doesn't matter how good Lon'qu!Severa is; you can put Lon'qu somewhere he is actually doing something. Just something to think about.
  13. Hawkeye might get your a better footing for prologue - chapter 2, and then Pavise might be best chapter 2 onward.
  14. In the hands of someone who knows how to play very well, your pairings themselves don't really mean anything. I v/v with Ursula supported by Nino with 0% dual strikes and she doesn't have galeforce. Whether or not I used Ursula or Morgan or Laurent to do that didn't matter because I'm very well educated on the map. We all have tools to become successful, so you shouldn't use something because it's successful. You should understand why something works for you and apply it. I'm not successful because of Vengeance; I'm successful because I know how to set up vengeance, maximize vantage, and understand when the right time to use player phase vengeance and so on. Even in the simple scenario of rescue staves: if you hand me one, I know when to rescue, but I also know when to warp. Hand it to someone who doesn't know its full capabilities and they won't be able to succeed as well as I can. My goal of this post is to try and ask you this: what do you find interesting or as a fun way to clear Apo? Because vengeance is by far the worst strategy you can use if you don't want to do any pregame calcs. Go proc stack and be at full power at the maps start. Knowing that you want to do no dlc, you should then consider the following options 1) Do I want to used faced units? 2) Do I want to do pregame calcs? 3) Do I care about consistency? I don't mind resetting once in a blue moon. 4) What are my favorite class options? Do I want to go down a magical route, do I want to go down a physical route? Or maybe I want a mixture. Once you know how you want to play the game, then you can start to learn what you can sacrifice. It isn't just maxing. You have to have a min to follow suit. If you know with all your certainty that you want to use MaMU x Cordelia (random example), then you know you're giving up on certain 3rd gen mod Morgans, you know you aren't using FeMU and any of those options, etc. Analysis requirements. List what you want, then work from there. All we know is you want to do no dlc apo. Once we have more information about how you want to be successful with your own personalized team, we can start to see what units hit X benchmarks and help you find a way to generate a solution that works for you.
  15. List of common restrictions/requirements you could consider LTC/6 turn 100% No paid dlc No rallies No braves Low Deploy And/or any combinations above. Or you can make something up. "No rescue" would be an example of something nobody really runs, but there's nothing holding you back from doing it just because nobody else does it. I don't think anyone but me takes 100% seriously anymore. And I only see Alastor talk about no braves (which in itself has proven to be quite longer to plan and more fun than expected). You could start small and go for just an LB ban, or you can go all the way and run no dlc/no rally. Just make sure you know what you're doing, and make sure you're having fun.
  16. Status update for me, I finished all calcs up to wave 5. Technically I've "done" the calcs for the recurring mobs. All that's left is turn management + Anna, and then the actual run.
  17. I've never needed more than two 1 hp vengeance sages, and that's considering the "challenge" runs that I do. What's your exact purpose for those setups? With one post talking about Aether, and another talking about vvds+, I'm getting mixed signals as to what you want.
  18. I can't speak for everyone, but the first thing I do (for all the runs I've done), is to a requirements analysis. What are your objectives? Do you know if you want 100%? Or do you not mind running Luna/Ignis/Aether and such? Do you want 100% Dual Strikes? Do you have restrictions? No dlc, no rallies, no braves, and such. Do you want to plan for Vengeance? From there, do you have a specific pairing you just don't want to budge on? Airship takes MaMU x Lucina and finds ways to argue why it's amazing (nothing right or wrong with this, it's just something that you want). So some pairings are off the table from that alone by simply process of elimination. How many faced units are you using? Let's say you only plan on using MaMU x Lucina and Morgan x Brady and nobody else besides other spotpass units. This lets you select the cream of the crop mods. Example: I ran no dlc/no rally. I know I only want to use Morgan x Spouse. I'm using 0% dual strikes, so only the class selection on the spouse matters. I look at my mod list and know that I need +8 Mag mod for Morgan. What combinations can I use to get that and what am I willing to sacrifice for it? I just know that my spouse will need Dark Mage and Troubadour (or at least inherit DuSu+) to run Hex, Anathema, and DuSu+. So my list of spouses is fairly large. Laurent, regardless of father, will have that (as long as he inherits DuSu+). So I know his parent doesn't matter unless I use Laurent as a mod source for Morgan. But I also know I'm a sucker for Morgan x Nah. So I look at applicable Nahs that have Sage (desired class, which happens to be all Nahs) in addition to DM and Troub. I pick Henry and go from there. But I could only reach the conclusion of possible Morgans like Libra!Brady!Morgan x Henry!Nah because I set up a list of requirements that I wanted to follow in addition to requirements I want (Morgan x Nah over Morgan x Laurent). You could also just start with Children you like. Morgan > Lucina > Nah > Laurent..... and select the best partner for each. Or know the benchmarks and look at the team as a whole.
  19. If you wanted Inigo to be magic oriented for sure, then you're most likely dropping Chrom as a father choice. Process of elimination leaves Maribelle!Lucina (who you will find is actually very successful). Plus, you hear plenty of people saying Brady doesn't request much out of a father. For general purposes, LB, Agg, Luna, Galeforce, and Tomefaire/Sage right out of initial class pool. He might miss Dark Mage/Myrmidon, but again, for general purposes that's no big deal. You can even throw on RFK for novelty value over something like Tomefaire (all assuming DLC, but from your posts it seems like it's a-ok unless I missed something). If you drop DLC, then you can still run things like Mag+2 or Defender to nail those benchmarks. Of course, that's still excluding the father, Chrom (outside of rfk, which isn't that useful). That gives you great accuracy (prescience, hit rate +20) or even switching as Sniper (assuming you didn't want a magical Brady). But if you wanted a physical Inigo, then you can disregard a bunch of that text. Although the pre-made Brady is something that is worth thinking about (as in not needed a father unless for a specific purpose).
  20. I know that Lon'qu!Noire!Morgan has mods to v/v no dlc/no rally 100% Apo. Excluding Morgan (as if that first statement I made was even close to answering your question...) I think she would be successful even if you didn't build around v/v. Vantage can be abused at 1 hp, but it call also be used at 20 HP. Or even 30. Or even if you don't have vengeance. You can throw on simple stables (hex, anathema, proc of choice, hit rate +20). You could also do some pre-math to see if you'd rather run a breaker over hit rate +20. Same goes for running DuSu+ if her partner has low hit (hit rate +5 can go a long way). You have options in physical and magical, but it's no big deal if you don't have tomefaire (Sorc is really close to Sage in caps for Mag), but she isn't locked out of Sniper (or Bow Knight if that floats your boat). You could even run around with mov+1 and deliver if you knew that the math from str+2 was meaningless (if you were thinking about it). And that's excluding LB, you can always throw that on someone. As far as Severa goes, I always throw in a pitch for Ricken!Severa, but I can see Gaius!Severa performing I'm guessing you really want to run vantage on Severa (skipping Lon'qu and Stahl because I bet you already did those based off your last comment). Be it v/v or just vantage, it might be something you just want.
  21. I find Galeforce is not really overkill. It's a top of the line luxury skill. It doesn't help you win fights like vengeance (or other procs); it doesn't let you do enemy turn shenanigans (vantage) or even do extra damage (mag +2 to tomefaire). But it does help crunch turns in wave 4/5. It does reduce the number of combat units you need in a 3 or 5 enemy pool. It's strong, but I wouldn't call it "overkill." Benchmarks > "Overkill" > Not knowing what you're doing.
  22. V/V isn't for everybody, but it's hella fun for me. I like being able to have my notepad document and go line from line knowing exactly what I can/can't do and what I can expect. I look at Airship's average damage chart and wonder how can he possibly work with that when that number never shows up during the actual run. Proc stacking and 99% dual strikes might be what's fun for someone or that just setting up 1 HP is a waste of time and you want to be full power on turn 1. But that style isn't for me.
  23. No, it's just I'm V/Ving with Sage x Sage and the only physical attackers I'm using is Sniper (which hits Aegis). I tried sampling some gimmicks like General Lucina with a Hammer or Bow Knight with Armor Slayer in an Wave 0, but it just didn't work out. It'd be nice to have physical, but from what I'm conjuring up, it's just not good enough for my purposes.
  24. No, I'm only using Valflame, Rexcalibur, Forsetti, Bolganone, Long Bow, and Double Bow [obligatory rescue staff as well]. I might add Thoron, but I don't think it's necessary, as Rexcalibur seems to be the bulk buy and Bolganone was a one-shot use. I don't even think I have to Hammerne Valflame. I also don't know what physical weapons I'll need for Wave 0 on the clerics (the only calc I skipped so far). Finishing up 3 today, I might start wave 4 tonight, maybe not. I think I might have a turn by turn done by tomorrow. Then it's the grind to actually get my team of 20 (so aka 2 years before the real run happens BibleCry). This has been much more work than no rally/no dlc 100%.
  25. Currently in Wave 3 calcs for no braves/no dlc 100%, and I'm wondering what you meant by a much more diverse weapon viability? I suppose I'm using non-Celica tomes, but the list is pretty small. Valflame, Rexcalibur, Forsetti, and Bolganone (which is used once and I pitch it after wave 0) are the only new additions I'm seeing (as Long Bows/Double Bow are in most, if not all runs). What others were you using?
