  1. I'm not against it, but I don't see the point.

I mean, I'd love a six chapter demo, so.... ok? I guess?

The only free game that I've enjoyed is heavenstrike rivals, which is a freemium game which doesn't understand how to be freemium. Seriously, why do you even bother charging people money for things you can farm infinitely? If you want people to arbitrarily give you money, just set up paypal donations. You've earned them.

  2. I actually think they may go with the Cain and Abel being on opposite sides for once. A more of a reference to the biblical nature of their names.

See, this is what I want to know.

Is each side going to have a full set of units (ie, the usual 40 or so archetypes that are in every game) or is there going to be a lot of overlap, or (worst case) each side has only 20 or so units?

There was a voice actor thread going around, anyone know how many voice actors have been cast for the game?

  3. To be fair a lot of main characters in FE have walked right into the villain's trap besides just Chrom. Sigurd, Eliwood, and Eirika all come to mind. Even Micaiah and Ike did a few times.

True. But this one holds a special place place in my remembering of the game, just because it was the most recent.

  4. ...?

A fan theory where you don't care about evidence is very shaky lol

Sorry, I should have been clearer. It's not a fan theory. I'm not saying that I think he is in any official capacity, and I'm not trying to convince anybody to agree with me. In my head, I consider this to be canon, just because I think it'd be cooler. I know there's no actual evidence, so feel free to disregard my opinion.

  5. This topic.

Yeah, we know NOTHING about the other characters in the game. Seriously, we've only gotten a handful of characters on either side!

At present we don't even know who the Cain and Abels are going to be. I'm a little concerned, because the game is coming out in 40 days.

  6. Record breaker has the ability to choose your difficulty (as well as the best named difficulties in all of video games: Apocalypse and Blessed).

So far, I've been playing on Apocalypse mode, and it's somewhat harder than Overclocked was, but not a ton.

That said, Overclocked has the hardest boss fight in the history of all strategy games: the optional Lucifer fight. Seriously, this guy makes Thracia bosses look easy. That's how crazy he is. I've put over two hundred hours into training and breeding my team and I still can't beat him.

I haven't seen if they've added any new fights in Record breaker, but the alice fight was a joke. At first I was like, "holy crap, she can one shot any unit in the game, how do you fight this," but then I realized that if you equip the stupidly broken (that's a whole other issue which if you're really into the series you can look up) anti-almighty, the fight becomes like I think the new phoenix mode will be. Literally, if you have anti-almighty, Alice CANNOT kill you. It is acutally impossible. Her attack will always do half of your remaining hp rounded down. I literally spent three turns at 1 hp with her doing no damage each time.

  7. I guess we can assume Aqua will not be as dumb as Chrom, still !

    Oh god, I hope not.

Chrom: Grima needs the Fire Emblem to awaken! Let's bring it with us when we go to the altar!!!

    Robin: (facepalm)

  8. What kind of character is Kreia for us non Star Wars versed folks?

Kreia was basically Obi Wan-Kenobi from the original trilogy, but evil.

Pure, unadulterated evil. She was really excellently done, because at first, she just came off as the usual, overly gruff mentor, but then she slowly started to reveal her true nature, as you noticed that she was a jedi encouraging you to abandon your comrades and murder people.

She trained the game's antagonists, Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion, the lords of oblivion and pain respectively, and manipulates you into killing them when they turn against her. Then she tries to kill you if you don't turn evil.

    Kreia Quotes:

What do you wish to hear? That I once believed in the code of the Jedi? That I felt the call of the Sith, that perhaps, once, I held the galaxy by its throat? That for every good work that I did, I brought equal harm upon the galaxy? That perhaps what the greatest of the Sith Lords knew of evil, they learned from me?

If you seek to aid everyone that suffers in the galaxy, you will only weaken yourself… and weaken them. It is the internal struggles, when fought and won on their own, that yield the strongest rewards. You stole that struggle from them, cheapened it. If you care for others, then dispense with pity and sacrifice and recognize the value in letting them fight their own battles. And when they triumph, they will be even stronger for the victory

  9. To give you a comparison:

Fire emblem awakening was released in Japan on April 19th, 2012, and wasn't released in North America until February 4, 2013. That's 10 months.

I actually really really hope it won't don't think it will take them any longer to translate IF, largely because it's made using the same engine, so they won't have to do as much recoding. Historically, games made with the same engine have been localized faster.

  10. Aqua's appearance on the first trailer left me assume that she is the protagonist of the story and the plot would revolve around her. However, after the second trailer, the appearance of White Hair character raise a few uncertainty. At the moment, I do not see any certainty that says Kamui is not a "Robin" of the story. The cover where there are two Kamuis on both side and Aqua in middle really question the significance of her. Aqua's existence on that cover seems dominant, I don't have the right word for it. I mean either side have their own lord and a version of Kamui. Aqua, whose existence on the cover is rather absolute and divine, as if she is the true lord, the true "Chrom" or "Marth" of the story.

Assuming Aqua's is secondary main character, based on the Hero's Journey (if you've watched Ted-Ed video) or Fool's Journey (if you are familiar with Tarot Card or Shin Megami Tensei), I would say Aqua is the Wizard, who guides the hero through his journey. She is the Jiminy cricket that follows the hero and influence him/her to make the best decision as possible. She is the Gandalf that gives Frodo that task the destroy the ring, a goal and purpose for his adventure.

I think that you're probably right, that's the most common trope.

Btw, what's your profile pic from?

  11. Now I'm interested in the ages of Aqua and Kamui and which one is older. It's possible that they knew each other from birth as well (whether they know each other now is unknown though) depending on when the kidnappings happened? It's all some form of incest at this point lol

Wait, is Aqua even royalty? I can't remember if she was just Nohrian born or if she was royalty as well...

Nvm, she has Dragon's Vein, of course she's royalty.

If they were kidnapped from different sides as infants, I don't think it's possible that they ever knew each other.

But that is a great question about who is older. Who would you want to be older? Kamui? Or Aqua? Opinions?

  12. the only royalty I can see kamooi marrying is aqua

and yeah, I've said it before, but I completely agree with Venterqua that marrying family members you were raised with is emotionally creepier than blood relatives

Emotionally, yeah it's way creepier, but at least it's not inbreeding. Your kids won't have extra toes or something. (or be possessed by a dark dragon and form a cult to take over the world.)

It would be really crazy if incest did return to the series, especially now that it's a lot bigger. We've more or less avoided it for the past few entries.

Edit: actually, there was possible incest in awakening, I forgot about that.

  13. besides kris and Marth which i haven't played, most of those are quite exaggerated in how much they overshadow them, and are matters of opinion. Also being plot important doesn't make you the protagonist

More on topic i don't see how aqua will overshadow kaimui in any meaningful way, but if you consider any character who is not kaimui being more important to a plot arc, as that character overshadowing Kaimui I think you might be disappointed.

Well, plot relevance doesn't prevent them from being overshadowed. Robin was, technically, the most plot relevant character in the entire game, I mean, it was ALL ABOUT HIM, but he was still way overshadowed by Chrom.

  14. I really really hope find it unlikely she'll overshadow the protagonist. I know that's happened in every FE since, but based on everything we've seen so far, the avatar seems much more relevant.

But yeah, if she was kidnapped first, that would be awesome. It would make the story that much better.

Still, we don't know if Aqua will play into the "child of two worlds trope." We know almost nothing about her situation. The videos have shown that the avatar was unaware of his heritage until the game started, but we're told nothing about Aqua's actual role. She hasn't had a single line of dialogue in any screenshots or videos.

  15. Plus grima being a divine dragon is a shaky fan theory, which has no evidence except for wing shape, which is questionable evidence because tiki changed wing shape between awakening and the rest of the series.

Yeah, I don't care. I want to believe. It's IS's fault for not properly explaining.
