  1. Something in me thinks bows should beat magic, to give them an edge as the primary range weapon.

Absolutely agreed. That's my biggest problem, is that I just can't wrap my head around how it plays out in battle.

As someone who has tried this before, I can definitely say that lances beat swords, and swords usually beat axes, although I never got the "axes beat lances" part. I just imagine a little guy chopping the end off the lance.

  2. Actually, he calls the maiden in the recruitment chapter "Buttercup." It's pretty loose, you could claim it doesn't mean anything. I'd loved to have seen him with a "you killed my father, prepare to die" quote.

For those of you who don't know, Buttercup is the titular Princess in the Princess Bride.

    Oh, I forgot about that.

Yeah, but it was the "you killed my father" line that I was looking for. I was really hoping, before I played the game, that his recruitment mission would involve him meeting his father's killer in the past. Disappointment.

    Great movie. Great movie.

  3. Light magic was good because it balanced out dark and anima, and allowed you to mix up tactics more because it could be used to provide defensive bonuses against dark magic.

Also, it was very accurate, and it had some very fun spells, like purge and whatever the one that hit twice was.... I don't remember right now.

    And it did look cool.

  4. Given that Inigo didn't get a single shout out to the Princess Bride (Yeah, I'm still really, really pissed at the translators for that. You have a character named "Inigo" and you don't put in a single reference? It's criminal), I doubt that Joker will get any batman references.

    But I still hope so.

  5. So, this may be a little premature to start speculating about, but we've seen some pretty wild backgrounds so far in the videos and screen shots. If I have one problem with FE 7-10, its that the environments could have used more variety. (FE 6 was pretty spectacular, it had a TON of different locations)

Awakening, while it did have variety, had the majority of levels take place in the same locations, and only a handful in others.

What do people think? And what do we know about the continent so far?

Finally, in the april video, did anyone else immediately think "they're taking the hobbits to isengard" at 0:57?

  6. I mentioned this in a different thread, but my current theory about the servants is that they all belong to a clan that trains them to be bodyguards and servants to royalty.

I believe that it was confirmed in the latest article that all the butlers and maids will follow you regardless of your path. Is this correct?

  7. Okay, I'm still trying to sort through all of the info, but does this confirm that the halberdier class will be returning?

If not, what class is Oboro in the screenshot?

Second, has class changing been confirmed or denied yet? To date, they've never made a game where the player made character couldn't switch classes, but has anything official been said yet?

  8. Maybe, sorry if I came off a bit rudely. I'm just used to seeing kick ass maids even in freaking Castlevania as enemies lol.

True, true. There have been maids in many classics.

Also, I do like the idea that they could be Nohr's equivalent of ninjas.

  9. Different from what?

The Tellius games were radically different from the jugdral games, I mean, they had shapeshifting units, and awakening was radically different from FE 6-7.

That said, this one is shaping up to change some core features, and I'm not sure how it'll turn out.

Still, weapon weight is back, so that's good.

  10. It's not any less ridiculous then dancers being a class.

Just because we are used to them, we don't raise an eyebrow, i'm surprised that FE's only had proper "bards" twice.

    Good point, but still.

Bards and dancers are well established classes in fantasy games, and have been for decades. Bards make sense, because they are essentially traveling entertainers, and it would be reasonable to expect them to have some level of combat knowledge.

Dancers are incredibly acrobatic, and often merge with assassins or thieves, although I will admit that FE to date has never taken this approach.

I dunno. Maybe it just seems weird to me because it's different.

  11. Since the main thread's seven pages long now, I'm posting this to a new thread.

Ok, so we've now confirmed not only are there maid and butler classes, but they actually have promotions.

First off, I want to say that I object to them making maid and butler classes. Sure, the bride class in awakening was amusing, but that was the point. It was DLC. DLC are allowed a certain level of leniency on the weird. Making actual, main characters' default classes maids and butlers is weird.

Now that I've got my hate out of the way, I want details and speculation.

First off, why does Hoshido even have maids and butlers? That makes no sense! They're western servants. I assume that there were servants among the Japanese aristocracy, so why don't they have classes for those? It's weird, and goes against the whole east/west thing.

Second, what weapons do they use, can they use magic, and other stuff.

    There. Go.

  12. Definitely mid-tier at best. It's more popular now, definitely, but I can't casually mention it in a conversation between non-gamer friends and expect them to have a slightest inkling about what I'm talking about.

Mario and Poke'mon, yes, I can.

    Good point.

  13. Since Nintendo themselves have claimed 2016, I don't see the chance of it being bumped up.

It's annoying, because this is being released on the same day as Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and that's already been confirmed by Atlus for a 2015 NA release.

Although it isn't correct to say that fire emblem is a mid/low tier game. After Awakening's success, Nintendo is behind the series a lot more. After all, it got 4 separate characters on the smash bros. roster, which is a big indication of Nintendo's favor.

  14. -Elise is the real sore spot of Norh to me, and the cast as well. She's ludicrously short (sometimes I think character designers don't get the memo that women are mostly done growing in height by age 12-13, and I'll be surprised if Elise is much older), the hair is just far too goofy, and I do not like the dress.

I'm just hoping this is perspective. (as in, she looks short because of the camera angle.)

Seconded that the Tellius art was really good.

I like Aqua's "black" design significantly more than her "white" design. I can't put my finger on why, but I do.

  15. I neither agree nor disagree with anyone yet. We simply haven't seen enough of the artwork to know if they really are better or not. Here's what I think so far:

I liked Robin's design better than either Kamui's. The eyes on the sleeves was an excellent touch, really added a feel of menace, and the muted purple was good too.

I like Marx better than Frederick, he's definitely a high point.

I like Leon's design, but it is exactly the same as dark knights in awakening, so there's really no change.

I like Camilla's design. Heresy, I know, but if you think about it, it is actually more practical than Pegasus knights' have been in the past, at least it covers the midriff with armor(http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/b/b2/Catria_NM_Background_2.png/revision/latest?cb=20120721081819), but it is still inferior to Minerva's (http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/c/c3/MinervaDS.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090213133437). As for wyvern knights, it's certainly better than Vaida's as well (http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/5/53/Th_vaida.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080828003043).

    Ryouma's design is pretty cool.

Takumi, on the other hand, is incredibly bland.

    No opinion on Hinoka.

  16. l don't know man, now I'm imaging human women giving birth to dragons and dragonbabies sealing their powers in their own dragonstones. I think they're limited to other manakete's dragonstones.

As for Kamui, if we're using 'uses dragonstones to attack' then sure but if the definition is 'dragon who decided to become human and sealed own power in dragonstone' not so much. Either way, Kamui is not exactly any type of Manakete we've seen before; they're more of a mixture of all of them. I personally think Kamui's going to be something a little different.

Also, Kamui totally only has enough blood because he's blood related to both sides of the family if you know what I mean.

Now, this is from the manga (not the game):

    http://www.mangachapter.me/11265/fire-emblem-hasha-no-tsurugi/32-35.html

But everything in binding blade indicates that they are born as dragons, not humans.

Again, Awakening was the first time the possibility of a human/dragon child being able to also turn into a dragon. Although there are other children who are born of dragons, in none of the other games can they transform. (Sophia, whoever Ninian's child is, etc.)

Also, as to human women giving birth to dragons, there has never been a union between a male dragon and a female human in any of the games.
