  1. I like a good challenge :P nothing cheap though. I've played neither Oblivion or Monster Hunter but I hear good things about them.

Any other PS3 titles worth mentioning? Not just RPGs, but other types.

Mostly just what I listed in my posts. Those are the best exclusives I've played on PS3, but I obviously haven't played all of games on the system. I'm not gonna recommend something I haven't played, as I wouldn't know anything about it :P.

Uncharted 2 is the fifth highest rated game of all time, just behind Super Mario World. You can get the first Uncharted for $20 as well. They're action/platformer games. Think Tomb Raider, except way better. If you already own a PS2, chances are you're a Ratchet & Clank fan. There are three R&C games on PS3 right now and they're all great. InFAMOUS is made by Sucker Punch, the creators of the Sly Cooper series. It's the highest rated sandbox super hero game on any console. I liked it quite a bit, so check it out if you're into that kind of thing :P.

Really depends on what other genres you like. Here's a good site to look at average scores by genre and platform

  2. Careful with Demon's Souls. It's pretty hard! I'm not particularly good at games outside of the SRPG genre, but I've never played a console game that difficult before <_<. I'm not a big WRPG fan either, but it's fun when you get used to it. Check out a few videos before picking it up, as it's a $50 game right now. It's a mix of Oblivion and Monster Hunter.

  3. That only explains why he's not good early, not why he's actually negative. Would you honestly say that if Bartre weren't around, you would go faster as a result or gain more experience?

The question is whether he's worth spending the experience on or not. It's babying Bartre vs having a higher average level for your main team. You can make up for the experience rank pretty easily later, as long as you don't abuse Marcus.

Most of those problems can be avoided anyway. For example, he has WTA on Peg Knights, so he can either kill them before they attack (I think he can OHKO some of them) or hit them with a Hand Axe and have fairly reliable accuracy. He never even has to encounter Nomads if the player is smart enough, since they only appear in the bottom right (don't send him there) and a few at the middle top area, but it should be easy enough to keep him protected there anyway.

The problem is it severely limits what he can do. If you have to avoid all of these things that kill him easily, he's stuck to doing only a couple tasks. Besides, if we're using the gross system, whether he's free or not doesn't matter. If he sucks more than everyone else, he sucks more than everyone else and loses huge points for it. Sucking in the hardest part of the game is not a good thing.

  4. I already have bought a PS3. I bought one several month ago. There was no reason to try to convince me otherwise. I stated I bought one in another thread I made when I bought it, because it was awesome. Now, go take your unwarranted opinion off somewhere else, it's dirtying up my floor.

Wait, you already own a PS3? I was suggesting games for you because I thought you wanted help picking out other good ones. Well then, now I feel dumb :P.

  5. MGS (Note the S in there, not the first three MG games.) is, generally, considered a Sony exclusive title. There hasn't been a exclusive MGS game other than on a Sony system.

There are only two canon Metal Gear games. The NES games are not part of the main series and they aren't the same games even though they share the name. Metal Gear was exclusive to the MSX before they got re-released on PS2.

MGS: Rising changes all of that. It won't be on PS3; it's 360 exclusive.

*sigh*, you just come in and try to BS your way into making sense. MGS: Rising is on 360, PC AND PS3.

    Here

    3. People think it will suck because they associate Raiden with MGS2. He wasn't even the worst part about it; it was about not being able to use the staple protagonist Snake, and about his annoying-ass girlfriend Rose.

No, they know it will suck because every game that Kojima hasn't done himself HAS sucked. You don't take your story and give it to someone else, they'll screw up every time. Especially when the game is only being made to milk the series.

I fully state this due to dipshits like YOU assuming that fanboys think of this as TRUTH. Self-righteous fanboys like YOU make ME ashamed of what pompous pricks we've become. It's people like you who portray the gamer as a pizza-face no life with a pseudo superiority complex.

No, you came into a topic made by someone who was clearly interested in the PS3 and told them to get a 360 because it was better. If they wanted a 360, they would have made a topic about that instead. What you SHOULD have done was help them pick out other games they might like before making the purchase instead of trying to force your own opinion on them.

By the way, nice job taking this so seriously you need to start insulting me. You're a big, mature man, aren't you?

    5. I say this with restrained respect; go suck a railroad spike you arrogant twit. I've likely been around this hobby longer than the time you've spent living.

No longer than 4 years if your attitude offers any clues. Chill out, you're going to have a stroke at this rate.

  6. That's not the point. Xbox 360 is getting a game for a series that was SUPPOSED to be PS3 exclusive.

MGS was never PS exclusive. Do you know what system the first MG game came out on? A Microsoft system - the MSX. MGS2 was on the Xbox as well. See, you're not a fan of the series. You probably don't even know what happened in MGS4, so you don't know why everyone knows MGS: Rising is going to suck. You came into this topic to troll and wage your fanboy video-game wars.

This generation has made me ashamed of my hobby.

  7. Also, i remember something vague: Xbox 360 has take MANY of the "supposed" PS3 exclusives, including Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto 4, and, the biggest punch in the face, Metal Gear Solid 4. Yes, you could call it the Raiden Spinoff but a catch is a catch.

MGS: Rising is not MGS4. Any fan of the series KNOWS Kojima isn't even working on MGS: Rising. It's a spin-off being made to milk the series because Konami wanted it done. MGS is not MGS without Solid Snake. Kojima took the MGS4 team to make MGS: Peacewalker on PSP. MGS Rising is getting the leftovers.

  8. Now, were we to unanimously adopt a Gross system where opportunity costs are ignored for unit slots, what would the implications be? Using a unit still isn't "free," since experience remains limited and needs to be distributed properly. In that way, we still may end up with units who contribute negatively to the team's utility if used, but it's far less extreme than what we have now.

This is pretty much why I suggest not bothering to worry about the EXP rank (apart from keeping Marcus tame) a whole lot until mid-late mid game. The burden of getting a good rating in chapters is hard enough with your regular team. It's easier to raise your main team up early on and use them to help other characters bolster the EXP rank later. There are plenty of low level units that can grab kills effectively at their base level, like Heath, Rath and Nino. This is what I did in both of my last two S rank playthroughs and it made things *much* easier. I didn't complete the games where I was trying to get the EXP rank up throughout the entire game, it was boring and needlessly frustrating because it's so much easier to get unlucky with bad units early on.

  9. For consoles, I like RPGs, Fighters, Mechas, sidescrolling shooters, and Platformers. I like Survival Horror as well, but I'm aware of which of those I would buy.

Oh, okay then. Did you own a PS1/PS2? Do you like WRPGs :P? Do you have a 360? In any case, you already seem to have your fighters lined up :o.

    RPGs:

    Folklore

    Valkyria Chronicles

    Disgaea 3

    Eternal Sonata

    Demon's Souls (WRPG)

    Upcoming RPGs:

    FF vs XIII

    FFXIII

    White Knight Chronicles

    Last Rebellion

    Trinity Universe

    Atelier Rorona

    Resonance of Fate

    Star Ocean 4

    Platformers:

Ratchet and Clank Future series (Crack in Time, Quest for Booty, Tools of Destruction)

Uncharted series (Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves. I wouldn't really call it a pure platformer, it just has tons of platforming elements)

    LittleBigPlanet

    Mega Man 9 (PSN)

    Braid (PSN)

Those are the ones I've played (apart from upcoming, obviously <_<) and can personally tell you are great. I won't list anything I haven't played. If you're a platforming fan, I really suggest the R&C and Uncharted series' in particular, though. Uncharted 2 is the only game I've played this gen that I can say was really worth the $60. Though it's part TPS and part adventure/platformer, the platforming elements pretty much made the game for me.

They're worth checking out if you're looking for games that really push the PS3, anyway.

  10. If it'll help, here's a list of games I own on PS3. I'll only list the exclusive ones, since you can usually get a better version of the multi-platforms on 360 thanks to lazy devs.

    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

    Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

    InFAMOUS

    Demon's Souls

    Valkyria Chronicles

    Disgaea 3

    LittleBigPlanet (<3)

    Flower (PSN)

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PSN)

    Folklore

    Ones I'm looking forward to:

Gran Turismo 5 (March 2010, Been waiting forever :(!)

God of War 1 and 2 remake (November)

God of War 3 (March 2010)

    The Last Guardian (TBA 2010)

    White Knight Chronicles (March 2010)

    LittleBigPlanet 2 (Late 2010)

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (Couple days)

    Last Rebellion (November)

I'm not a big fan of FPS or TPS at all. In fact, I really dislike them. Platformers, S/RPGs and the odd action game are the only things that I buy these days. Gran Turismo is the only racing game I like, but that's mainly because of nostalgia. If you couldn't tell already, I'm also a big fan of the "Holy Sony Trinity" of Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog and Insomniac.

I basically bought my PS3 for The Last Guardian. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are my first and second favorite games of all time. When I heard the final game in the trilogy was making its way to the PS3, I would've bought one even if it were double the launch price. The series is a masterpiece and there's no way I'd go without it :P. Luckily, the PS3 had a bunch of other great games that I would've missed if I had decided to just stick with my PS2/360 for the gen.

I'd like to point out how annoyed I am with the 360 right now too. There are four reasons I bought my 360:

    1. Tales of Vesperia (Ported to PS3 with tons of extra content)

    2. Star Ocean 4 (Ported to PS3 with extra content)

    3. Eternal Sonata (Ported to PS3 with tons of extra content)

    4. Lost Odyssey (Kept me from selling my 360 for now)

If I had balls, that would be a kick in them.

Anyway, hopefully my list of games helps you pick out a few more you'll enjoy as well. It'd be a shame if you missed out on a couple gems :).

  11. Oh, I wish I had seen that topic before I came here to do this, then. Wouldn't have started it again if I could just use that. Probably avoid quite a bit of argument to just make two tier lists.

Oh, and the reason I said you should be using levels too is because then we don't have to take your word on it. Not that I was even really debating rather than trying to start the argument.

  12. I didn't read everything because I'm lazy. I've been against doing the tiers this way since Malcolm proposed the idea for this reason alone. It's impossible to reflect the changes on the tier list unless you adopt it completely, but that means completely re-working the entire thing and condensing the tiers into three groups that don't help anyone. When I suggested we only use opportunity cost with units that are we had equal at the time, I was essentially trying to get rid of it without getting into this same argument with Malcolm (terrible post limit on GF). I came here just to see what everyone else thought and spark the debate here, so I used those methods in my two debates. In other words, I chose to have you guys do it for me. I'm quite happy with the results; I didn't think it was going anywhere at first. I'm not a big fan of it myself, clearly.

However, I still think there needs to be an established value on a unit slot.

  13. Hmm do you know how long? I planned to actually get my PS3+VC this Sunday haha :P

Oh, you might not wanna wait then. It's coming out early November. $299 for a 250 GB Slim PS3 and U2. If you buy your PS3 this Sunday, you'll get the 120 GB Slim for $299. Really just depends on whether or not you want the extra space and game. The Uncharted series is amazing, but I'm sure it doesn't appeal to everyone.

  14. Axereaver WKs have 29 HP/11 def maximum. ORKO with Silver Sword.

Swordreaver fighters have 31 HP/4 def maximum. Isadora actually only needs 20 atk with doubled WTA to ORKO these chumps, and she gets 20 atk with Iron Lance before WT anyway.

Lancereaver cavs have 29 HP/8 def, but there are only 2 of them. They are also likely to not have 9 AS, and they are actually the fastest enemies on the map. Iron Axe weighs Isadora down to 12 AS and gives her 21 atk, so +2 MT from WTA results in a ORKO. Or, you can give her a Halberd, which has (10 + 2)*2 + 13 = 37 atk, which also ORKOs regardless of enemy AS.

Mages have 7-8 AS. The 7 AS ones are ORKO'd from 1-2 range with Javelin. Shamans have like 5 AS.

Er, all you did was list a couple enemies she could beat. She can't beat them all at once either; leaving her with a weapon not effective against all of them on the enemy phase means you need to waste other units' turns because she isn't good enough. Her garbage durability REQUIRES you protect her if you want her to "help" as much as you're suggesting, wasting more units' turns and slowing yourself down. You also either wasted a better character's turn giving those weapons to her or wasted one of her turns getting them from Merlinus.

You should be listing the enemies' levels anyway, not telling us what some of their stats are. Especially if those stats were just written down using in-game as reference.

With regard to criticals: Isadora has 36 crit with whatever killer weapon at base. Per round of combat, she has a (.64)^2 = .41 or 41% chance at not critting, or a 59% chance of a crit, which kills enemies that she 4HKOs. Hawkeye has 52% chance of a crit, which kills enemies that he 3HKOs. So, Hawkeye's crit advantage doesn't help him when he doesn't double, and he needs 1-2 spd procs to double enemies up to chapter 31 (with the exception of chapter 26) and 3 spd procs for enemies in chapter 31.

Using Killers. Using a Silver Axe, Hawkeye has 33 attack. That's enough to one hit the frail units in his first chapter. Using a Halberd, Hawkeye can one hit the Cavs too. Hawkeye can also use the Brave Axe in Genesis without wasting any turns. Hawkeye isn't afraid of being on the front line either, because his durability doesn't fail like hers.

Rebecca and Bartre are forced for more chapters when PC quality is not very good. Hawkeye's performance in chapter 23 is not very good (no one performs well unless you're a flier, thief, or mage).

Wow. Bartre gets DOUBLED by some Brigands/Pirates at base speed and Rebecca is an archer. Yeah right. You know, if a free unit is bad enough to still contribute negatively, you don't pretend they help just because they're free.

Hawkeye's performance is better than all of your other foot soldiers because he's promoted, so he gets extra move in sand. His crit is an easy way to deal with the first boss as well. If Hawkeye sucked and couldn't fight without being protected, it might not matter. Fortunately, he isn't Isadora.
