  1. Hi guys, sorry it took so long, but we've finally got our raffle prizes up!

    N9On8oE.png

Four new and still sealed amiibos will be raffled off separately, so four people who enter the event, regardless of placement, will have a chance to win one of them. We'll let people choose which one they want, with the first number rolled getting first pick and so on. Good luck!

We might not end up adding more prizes, we'll see what happens. Will likely start advertising the event within the next couple days now.

  2. Hi, Ghast spoke to and filled me in on this, and I thought I'd show some support, especially considering it upset you enough to post on our forum. FES is as old a fixture in the fandom as we are, we've had a good relationship for years and even worked together as sites on translation projects and fandom-related news in the past, so naturally it's upsetting to see you were targeted by people for a forum raid. I think it's important not to go on a witch hunt, things like this transpire because of fundamental problems within communities and negative environments, not specific users. That's not to say the people responsible should be cleared of "blame" (what a fickle word that is, huh?).

While it's clear that the incident was organized outside of SF and any of our communities, many of them are members of our forum and so it's difficult not to feel obligated to at least talk to the ones I know personally. I'll speak with them at some point in the near future, privately.

Feel free to send me a PM if there's anything you'd like to discuss. Good luck!

  3. If I recall correctly there was an appearance of Giant Stalin. Perhaps your mind just remembered mustached dictator and defaulted to the slightly better known one.

    lol, it's possible!

Heard about this on Ghast Station's youtube channel; made an account just so I could participate in this contest.

Will be submitting my (almost complete) FanFic: Robin for Exalt. Don't know if I'll get around to writing the final 2 chapters anytime soon. But it currently stands at 28 chapters, 227 favorites, and 384 (mostly positive) reviews.

If thats what I've got, thats what I've got.

...I really should get around to writing those final chapters...

Hey, welcome to SF! I didn't even know he'd mentioned it yet; we haven't started advertising officially because we don't have all of the prizes filled out, but I'm glad to see a new face already lol!

If there's going to be a hundred+ submissions like last time then I can guarantee people will not be interested in reading a full fan fic (unless those chapters are ridiculously short). Best to take the best piece of writing you have from it that can stand alone as a work and submit that. I can't quite remember but I think one to three thousand words was generally what people aimed for with writing submissions last time.

Yup, I think the writing submission that placed best last year was of decent length (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NaKBqdq9OvWNEdrAFgB38J1erEraFvZRKjVGifFVoaA/edit?pref=2&pli=1) itself. And the comic artist that placed in the top ten decided to submit a single chapter rather than the entire thing.

I'm not sure how many submissions we'll get, it's as unclear as the previous year! I'm expecting we'll get a good bit less than last year, since there was a lot of unexpected Fates hype around the time we announced the event. Still looking forward to a nice turnout from our fandom's great creative minds!

I don't know if I'm going to enter this year, guess it depends on what kind of mood I am in throughout the competition.

Hope you find yourself in a good mood then! Good luck :P:.

    ---

Edit: Updated our Cipher pic with a pic of the actual card packs. Total of 18 packs will be given away as prizes, 2x for every top 3 placement in each category!

The bulk of our raffle prizes will be announced and have pics up soon.

  4. Green is my favorite colour too. We haven't had any issues with people contacting admins in the previous years, so I was selfish and made our group green this year :D:.

    People can always bug Jyo!

  5. feb deadline doesn't sound too bad

I have some ideas. Hopefully I can get some weekends in.

    Looking forward to it!

So it appears that my hall of fame entry is "Hitler story". This is not accurate. My story was "The Adventures of the Crimean Liberation Army".

LOL sorry, I think Vincent used some of my silly abbreviations from our staff thread that I used to remember each entry if he couldn't find the thread and I didn't notice that one. I'll get him to change it and look for any other mistakes! I blame you for writing an FE story about him, how else could I refer to it in my notes?! aha

Can't wait to see your next entry, lol!

  6. Too bad there isn't a specific theme this year. But I ll try to participate.

We don't want to restrict what people can do, so it's unlikely we'll ever have a specific theme for submissions. Prize themes though are something I'm probably going to go for; the main prize for each event will likely be dedicated to a specific game in the series (Fates last year, Awakening this year, continuing down).

not that good of an artist but sounds fun so i'll figure something out and good luck to everyone entering.

Looking forward to it! Do your best :P:.

Do you plan on doing another set of participant badges?

Nope, not this year. I wanted to feature the gallery for everyone this year, because it's an idea we floated around for the previous year but didn't get around to implementing. Badges may be back for the next event, and the gallery will be sticking around for future events as well.

Oh and the gallery will be used for voting too, instead of a forum section, so everyone should get equal visibility.

  7. I forget what our exact stance on it was, but at face value AMVs and stuff that uses direct footage from games as the submission would probably be a no-no in this event.

We did have some video submissions last year, but they were made using content created by the user, so in that sense videos are absolutely allowed.

  8. Hey everyone! We've started up our Creative event once more, you can check out the thread here:

    http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=67567

If you're new here, it's an event where people can submit something they've created for the chance to have some fun and win some prizes. If you've got a talent you'd like to share with the FE community, there's no harm in giving it a go!

  9. The Raffle

Just like last year, we'll be putting your fate in the hands of the RNG Goddess! Every member who makes a submission for the event will be assigned a number and entered into the raffle.

    Amiibos!

    N9On8oE.png

Four new, still sealed amiibos will be raffled off separately! Each member will be assigned a number when submitting their entry and after the event has concluded we will roll to see who wins. The first winner will get to pick which one they want, and so on down the line. If the same person is rolled twice, we'll reroll.

    Good luck!

  10. EDIT: Gallery link!

    EDIT: Winners announced:

    ------

Hi! Welcome to Serenes Forest Scribbles 2016, the second in our Creative event series!

    Brief intro for new people:

This is an event we started last year out of a desire to show some love and appreciation to the artists, musicians, crafters and various other creative minds in the FE community. The goal of the event is to bring everyone together and do something fun with the talent you've got!

You don't need to be an active contributor in our Creative sections or long-standing member to participate, just have some kind of creative ability that you'd like to share with everyone. The focus of the event is on community, and the way the voting and rules are set up denote a much more casual setting and approach. A wide variety of creative submissions are accepted and there isn't strict voting criteria, simply vote for what you think is the coolest submission for whatever your reason may be.

With that said, we do have very talented people in the community, but don't get discouraged if you feel that you can't "compete" or if your submission receives few votes. All submissions are appreciated and will receive equal treatment by event-runners, and I hope that if you have any type of creative talent you'd like to share or express, you'll consider submitting something to the event. It's all about having a bit of fun as a community and making a couple friends along the way, so even if you don't think you have the skills to win it all, we'd love to see what you have to submit anyway!

For prizes, we try to get relevant FE and Nintendo items related to the fans' interest, but also mix in some unique stuff created by fans themselves.

In the meantime, you can check out the Hall of Fame we put together for last year's winners for inspiration!

    Rules

    1. Your submission must be Fire Emblem related. Your stories, pictures, etc can have original characters or locations in them, but be sure that it can be easily recognized as a Fire Emblem piece.

    2. Your submission must not include assets from the games (IE images from the game, portraits, etc).

    3. No trolling, vote inflating or joke submissions. Joke submissions being something intended to bother another user, something you made in 2 seconds in paint just to get in the gallery, etc. You don't need to have the greatest ability ever, but submit something to the best of that ability within the time you have! I guarantee that your submission will be recognized regardless of your skill level, give it your all!

    4. Only one submission per member is allowed. You're free to change your submission if you'd like to before the event goes to voting phase.

    5. Code of Conduct behaviour rules still apply, and we will not tolerate the use of this event to bother or upset other members. If you attempt to cause trouble in this thread or make inflammatory comments towards its participants, you will be suspended immediately.

    ----

    How do I enter?

Send me a PM when your submission is ready and you'll be entered.

    ----

    F.A.Q

    Q: What is this event?
A: It's a creative themed event where users submit something they've created to have some fun and win some prizes.

    Q: Can I submit X?
A: As long as your submission is original content, related to the Fire Emblem main series, and doesn't break the SF Code of Conduct or event rules (ie no pornographic images) it will be accepted. Use those talents of yours to create something unique, if that's your thing!

Q: Can I do something with my friend, or get some help from them?
A: A friend can give you some tips and tricks, supply you with materials, or offer opinions/creative ideas, but the piece must be done by you. If you want to include a friend, consider them an assistant.

Q: I want to create something physical, is that alright?

A: Yup! If what you want to do for your submission is a physical creation, just take a few pictures of it with your username written on a piece of paper and send me those.

Q: How are the winners decided?
A: Since community participation is the main goal of the event, the winners will be decided by public vote (or a series of votes depending on how many submissions we get).

Q: Will any type of submission have an advantage?

A: Nope, not intrinsically! This is a Creative event though, so by nature something that's different or is truly outstanding may stand out from the crowd. Do your best!

Q: I'm not currently a member, am I still allowed to participate?

A: Yup! Just register an account and you're free to submit something.

Q: Can I submit something I created previous to this event?

A: It's difficult for us to know "when" something was made, but in the spirit of the event we'd prefer if you submitted something you made for it specifically.

Q: I noticed the prizes were mostly physical, so that means an address will be required?

A: Yes, we will need a shipping address in order to send you the prizes. Any personal information exchanged will be kept solely between the user receiving the prize, the staff member shipping it, and the admin overseeing the exchange to reassure users. It will not be shared with anyone else, and the PM it is exchanged in will be removed as soon as you receive your item.

Q: Is there anywhere you won't ship to?

    A: No.

Q: I'm going to submit a story, how should I present it?

A: Either send it to me in a PM or link it to me using your own preferred method (google docs, etc)

Q: I want to do a vocal cover of a song, am I allowed to use the original music or should I use something fan-made?

A: Yes, this is the only type of submission where official work would be permitted. One can't really exist without the other, and using a fan-made instrumental could make viewers think you made the music as well.

    Q: I don't think I can win, should I still enter :(?
A: Yes! The purpose of the event is to have fun, show your stuff and maybe make some new friends along the way. Everyone who enters will be featured in our site gallery, regardless of their placement.

Q: Are the categories going to be split this year?

A: Yup! There will be three separate categories this year, representing each of the categories we had the previous event.

    ----

    Participant Prize:

All participants will be featured (by their choice) in our SFS2016 site gallery, where along with having their work displayed on our website, may provide us a link to their art display or store to show alongside their submission.

    ----

    Deadline & Voting

The start date will be December 4th and the deadline will be March 5th.

Categories will be split into three, one for drawings and similar submissions, one for written works, and a final category where things such as crafts, music, cosplay etc will be entered into. Each category will have their own prizes and will be voted on separately.

You have about two months to complete your submission and send it in. Voting will begin within a week after the deadline. Last year we received 135 submissions during the Fates hype train, I'm expecting we will receive a fair amount less this year, but we'll be handling the voting process itself differently depending on the amount of submissions we get yet again.

    ----

    In closing and miscellaneous stuff

Thanks for taking the time to give this a read! Feel free to use this thread to chat about anything, it's all about socializing, don't worry about spam rules or being off topic.

The event will be advertised on the website and in a couple of our major forum sections.

If you have any questions I haven't already answered, just make a post and I'll add it to the FAQ!

Also a note for future events, we'll very likely be switching to holding them biyearly or once every 18 months.

  11. Well, now that November is over, I guess I should carry through with that whole providing a pic thing. Bear in mind I'd been working on this for much longer than just the one month, though. Probably not the best picture, but I've never been a selfie wizard.

    [spoiler=beard]1QFaiNb.jpg

    Bal,

    This is amazing.

  12. Should be everyone so far! (except Fre check your skype)

Never too late to request a change, just post in this thread lol.

    I'm red. Good.

    Wait...Why was that important again?

When I was deciding on the color for retired staff I was like "wait, I know who's in this group...".
