  1. Actually, a specific aspect of it has been confirmed since it's been put up (that being V's weapon-- when most thought he'd be an unarmed fist-fighter due to the fact he isn't shown with anything on the game's cover). At the same time, it's very possible the Smash part was a completely different user replying entirely-- though the fact that, if that was the case, the original person did nothing to clear things up raises more questions. It's not confirmed by a longshot, but the fact the leak actually predicted something somewhat major has me not wanting to count it out. Like with most leaks, it's probably not directly from a guy in the dev team-- it'd be from a guy who knows a guy who sent this to a guy. And it's reasonable to believe that certain people within Capcom that aren't at the very top of the rung, as well as localizers and certain PR department members in NOA, would know something like this. Smash Ultimate already has had multiple legit leaks happen (all the major points from E3 and specific details about Inkling's moveset and the Zelda characters' designs popped up before E3-- from two different people entirely; Simon and K. Rool were also leaked, the latter by someone who also outlined details about the Smash Direct and that it would air in August-- two days after E3). With games as big as Smash and DMCV, no matter how hard you try and keep a lock on things, stuff will leak out.
  2. It's just bad and significantly lower quality than most everyone else: In the top image there's the awkward, constipated looking expression, malformed fingers, and a cape that's folding inward on itself, and an arm with a lower quality texture that's a different shade to his skin entirely; bottom image has his right leg clipping through the top cuff of the boot in his crouching pose... and another shot of the malformed hand, too. Let's compare him to other FE characters: Better faces and textures, less noticeable clipping, and better proportioned hands. The only character whose model looks as bad as Chrom's is Young Link. Though there has been some general roughness in pre-release pictures and footage, Chrom's model just sticks out as ugly looking-- and I heavily doubt he's going to get a visual overhaul within the next couple months.
  3. And Chrom's model is still garbage, as seen in that victory pose. Anyways, someone compiled a damage comparison between Smash 4 Roy and Chrom: Also lower landing lag (but that's everybody, really). Seems like if Chrom's like this Roy's probably further buffed up, which is only a good thing.
  4. The Valknut was Odin's symbol, and it's composed of overlapping triangles: Thus, giving him a tricorn hat actually isn't too out-there.
  5. That's actually... something else.
  6. Inspired by/shamelessly ripped off from a topic I saw on gamefaqs earlier. This is just a what-if exercise if Smash had branched out onto handheld much earlier (technically, the GBA does have enough buttons: the directional pad with tap jump, should buttons for shielding/dodging and grabbing, and the A and B buttons for normals, specials, and A+B for smash attacks) with a more limited roster and features. Who would you pick for a roster of 16 characters? For limitation's sake, base it on Melee's roster (that is, no 3rd parties or characters who'd later become playable). Here's who I'd go with:
  7. Welp, there was a catch-- and that catch is Japanese voiceover only. Probably just going to mute voices entirely. At least we're getting completely new cover art:
  8. As for personal impressions about the gameplay: Honestly, it feels like a step back in some regards. The fact the directional damage system from 2 and 3 wasn't carried over-- despite people claiming to the contrary --is disappointing. Though it probably wouldn't be as useful, because maps are a lot more linear. I know everything would be on one big map instead of several smaller ones, but even then the maps seem to be set up to be done in a very straightforward manner. Also, having to wait an extra turn for reinforcements is kinda dumb-- as well as potentials taking up the entire screen and freezing the game (another thing that reddit list claimed was changed). For a plus, they actually took something from 2: there, every promoted class had a weaker ragnaid that healed them for about 1/3 of their HP. 4 carries over 3's change to enemy interception fire/they do full damage now. So here, every single character has it.
  9. http://www.siliconera.com/2018/08/15/etrian-odyssey-nexus-arrives-in-the-west-in-february-2019/ February 2019 as Nexus. Aww yeah. Glad Q2 didn't snub it; definitely surprised it's not coming before EO.
  10. TBF, from the reaction vids I saw most of them only knew of Simon because of Vergeben's leak; very few had any familiarity with the series at all. Castlevania just isn't that big, I think.
  11. I mean, I've seen both those things pointed out. The latter is the kicker and the biggest strike against this. The former could possibly be explained by Richter being the original after all (due to originating a lot of the moves like the slide, aerial kick, Grand Cross, and so on while being able to do everything Simon could), with Simon only being added later and becoming the main character. But that's purely speculation. The choice of Pokemon representing two unepped gens makes this too good to be true for me-- I'd love it to be the case, but it also sounds out there. Really, the only clout this holds is that he had Richter when nobody else did-- until we get another character from this, I'm going to say it's a lucky fake.
  12. So, something @Laser Taro pointed out in the SF FEW discord server: Street Fighter has 36 songs. ...For some reason I'm thinking it's safe to assume a shoto's in as a Ryu echo.
  13. Monster Hunter was a multi-million seller since its inception, with both 4 Ultimate and Generations selling over 4 million (though the winner was Portable 3rd-- Japanese only on the PSP in 2011 --with 5 million sales, before World decided to release a different game under the series name and grab 8 million sales + 2 million in preorders in areas it hasn't released in already). And TBF Big Boss was the one who got to fight Rathalos (and Tigrex)-- not Solid Snake. And Marth gets to refight him as well:
  14. Putting things up to 9 total, with the likelyhood of Shadow pushing the count to 10-- and Ken/Akuma/a Street Fighter shoto can't exactly be disqualified (though I do personally find it unlikely); and then we've got Heihachi/Lloyd/Yuri (other Namco characters) for consideration, with my personal expectations being at least one of them by the time DLC is done (with maybe Heihachi at base and Tales jumping in during DLC), alongside the virtual lock of Monster Hunter for DLC (tell me a 3rd party series would get special treatment in the base game like this and not have a character on the way)... and then there's more speculative stuff like Banjo&Kazooie (and hell even the Chief himself is getting brought up) alongside whoever Sega could have for a unique newcomer (probably not someone from their graveyard, that's for sure)... there's easily going to be over a dozen 3rd party characters by the time support winds down. Sonic and Snake were considered for Melee, only getting passed up due to it's development basically being permanent crunch time. I think the fact those two were the first 3rd party newcomers codified things for a time: Sonic was a "classic" mascot while Snake was random and contemporary/cool. Then Smash 4 cut Snake and brought on Mega Man and Pac-Man, exclusively going with the mascots-- then Ryu happened to add a "contemporary cool guy" in (while still a mascot), before Cloud and Bayonetta basically just shit on precedence and fan-made "rules". Simon I'd say is a bit more of a Ryu, but I think overall 3rd parties have always been about whoever can be realistically obtained that would generate the most hype-- it's undeniable that they're better for marketing than 1st parties. At least we're only getting a lot now when we've got over 50 Nintendo characters on the roster.
  15. Different taunts/victory animations as well as Richter's Holy Water causing blue fire while Simon's causes red. Maybe they both have a tipper mechanic (which would make sense, honestly) and the speed difference is just a placebo effect/overanalysis finding things that aren't there.
  16. How about this: if you haven't played in a Smash Tourney, then this doesn't directly concern you and-- really --you have no say in the matter. Hardly anybody here actually qualifies as part of the competitive Smash community; thus, why on earth are we trying to decide anything for them? (Not that there's a remote chance we even could, considering this is completely the wrong forum for a "debate" like this).
  17. https://imgur.com/a/HdDfJce New press release dump. Some are from the site, but a lot of them are new.
  18. Hell no. The only way Final Smashes will ever be legal is if they're so homogenized they lose most of their appeal and individuality. And as we all should know, Smash is very different from every other fighting game.
  19. They take only a small fraction of the resources unique newcomers would; as soon as they codified the term "Echo Fighter" I expected them to be used to pad out the newcomers like that. I'm expecting 6-8 unique newcomers total and about as many Echoes. With Chrom opening up the door, that would be a decent compromise-- letting them keep some identity while still being 98% clone.
  20. I mean, you can also just do it 1v1 with each character acting as its own stock.
  21. Toggle the CSS option. Now there's only 5 FE characters. ...And why the heck do Assist Trophies count when talking about playable characters? Of course we'd only get similar characters as Echoes because they're clones by their very nature; people were expecting Chrom as soon as we saw Ike had lost the palette and Robin's final smash was one of the few that hadn't been shown. And most everybody was expecting Chrom to suddenly be using lightning (because of TMS and FEW), so it's a bit surprising they went with more generic effects. News flash: FE has a tremendous sword bias. Out of the 18 lords (Marth, Alm, Celica, Sigurd, Seliph, Leif, Roy, Eliwood, Hector, Lyn, Eirika, Ephraim, Ike, Micaiah, Chrom, Lucina, Robin, Corrin) in released games, Hector, Ephraim, and Micaiah are the only ones who don't use swords in some capacity-- and among those who do, Celica and Robin split the focus with magic. 13 FE lords primarily or exclusively use swords. TL;DR FE does have a hell of a sword bias. Also, basically nobody cares aside from certain gamefaqs users and Kotaku because the Belmonts and K. Rool were also revealed in the same Direct; FE fans are the ones complaining the most about Chrom, as far as I can tell.
  22. Well, if you truly cut out sleep for the rest of your life that's only going to be for about a week.
  23. Yes. Yes, alot of anyones were. A very vocal fandom that served as the "rival" to Waluigi's, as it were. Overall, I'm perfectly neutral towards Chrom and just glad for the memes his confirmation has brought.
  24. I was directly talking about playable characters; you start delving into other stuff and you'll find a ton of overlap like that.
