  1. Other ones I can think of:

Corrin x Azura, non-Revelation: "He worked alongside his spouse"...you mean his dead spouse?

Xander x Hinoka: She somehow becomes a general in Hoshido and Queen of Nohr at the same time.

Xander x Selena: He leads Nohr into an age of reform, then just up and leaves it, which is horribly out-of-character for him.

Effie x anyone and Elise x Odin: To be fair, this requires a pretty specific set-up. But you'd still think they'd catch that Effie can't remain Elise's best friend when Elise is in Ylisse.

Basically any time a royal retainer is said to have remained in service to their royal, while being off with their spouse somewhere else.

    lolz!

That dead spouse one killed me. Literally laughed aloud. I'm glad I saved that relationship for Revelations. >.>

  2. I really miss custom endings for each pair. It's like 3 sentences per pair, is it really that hard?

Rinkah outranks basically all her potential partners except Ryoma. They should go home with her, not make her give up her title of the next fire queen.

Yeah, unique endings were really nice in some of the past games. It made me want to replay the whole game just to see what happened to people with different pairings (because I'm crazy like that). But I feel like once you've seen someone's ending in Fates (and by someone I mean the male counterpart, because they apparently dictate what happens to the wives, even if the wife could be queen of a country one day, or loves her family so much she would die for them and would obviously never want to leave) you've seen every ending, basically.

Are there any special endings at all?

(and on a side note, I think everyone wanted Ryoma and Scarlet to get together - its weird that IS ignored this pairing...)

  3. Characters stories after the End Game is pretty weird too. Elise married Odin, so right after the final boss, she disappeared with her husband not returning ever again. Strangely, Effie stayed best friend with Elise for rest of her life.

    lolz

Yes. All of this. I could go on for hours about the end game text being completely filled with contradictions and (in some cases) flat out ignoring anything that happened in the supports that got them there (Silas and Hinoka saying they'll start a new life together in between kingdoms is a lie, spoiler alert).

  4. EDIT: Oh, and I haven't actually done this but...

[spoiler=Revelation Spoilers]Crimson dying and only Ryoma caring despite her potentially being the mother of Corrin's child is jarring indeed. For how much they seem to acknowledge the popularity of the waifu aspects over at ol' IS, they don't seem to be able to commit to it very well.

I heard about this, but I haven't done it myself (but it would be jarring as f*ck and the epitome of what I'm talking about).

  5. TL;DR: I pretty much treat story and marriage as two separate things, but I expected more/even a small improvement on Awakening after it actually got some pretty heartwarming, great variable scenes if you married particular story-related people.

But that's what I'm talking about! Those slight changes made marrying Chrom or Lucina a hundred times more touching (and all they did was alter maybe three to four lines of text!). I honestly thought they would do more with that in this game... but then I was wrong.

  6. [Warning about all the spoilers - not putting anything in spoiler brackets]

So, I know this is going to come off as more of a rant than I want it to, but I really wish, in a game like this, they would alter at least one or two lines of dialogue to account for things like spouses.

Example! At the end of Conquest, Azura apparently sings her way out of existence. Her husband in my game, Leo, says something along the lines of "she was like a wave on the ocean, I guess" and then promptly walks off screen like the conversation bored him. She had two kids with him! And he had nothing else to say besides "I guess she's gone, oh well". It was rather jarring, to say the least.

Another thing - I was married to Xander. He threatens to kill me if I'm wrong about Garon being a slime demon. Really? Kill me? After conquering an enemy nation and doing everything you wanted? You're gonna kill me for miss-calling demon Garon? Jesus Christ. (And the fact he still calls me sister in every cut scene, despite, again, our two children). I felt it was rather odd... It really took me out of the moment.

And then on Hoshido, Azura was married to Takumi. You can probably already see where this is going... He had almost a similar reaction to Leo in that he could barely muster the caring - he sniffled, only after being prodded about her disappearance. Two children with her! Two! That wasn't a one night stand - they were married and worried about things like their son studying history enough. Jeez.

Lastly, on both routes you get a "and then everyone prayed really hard for you to come back to life" type of cut-scene. Everyone says something generic (except for Kana, who references you as mother/father) including whoever you happen to be married. Really? They don't have altered text? It seems weird that Saizo isn't concerned for the death of his wife, or that Asugi won't reference you as his mother. Just... weird. Again, took me out of the moment.

And don't even get me started on all the places in the story your spouse should be involved, but isn't. I know it would probably be a cluster-fuck to code a reaction for 73 different people for each little story event (depending on who you married) but if that's the case why not cut back on the number of people you can romance and make the romance a significant thing that impacts the story from time to time? I think I would prefer quality over quantity, but sometimes I think I may be over thinking things...

TL;DR - are there any story moments you wish your spouse actually acknowledged your relationship and acted accordingly? Any moments in the story you felt the lack of your spouse's input?

  7. Saizo x Asugi

    Xander x Leo

    Xander x Avatar

    Gunter x Avatar

    Dwyer x Mitama

    Azura x Takumi

    Takumi x Kiragi

    Asugi x Sophie

    Asugi x Shiro

    Elise x Odin

    Odin x Charlotte

    Arthur x Felicia

I could probably go on, and I haven't started Revelations yet (to see the cross-over supports) but so far those all stick out to me in one way or another. Asugi got more interesting this time around (now that he also has 'ninja' to his character profile rather than just his super-attraction to candy).

  8. I love the Dragon Vain stuff - altering the map and changing things up makes everything feel awesome.

I love Nohr chapter 10 (castle defense stuff is always fun to me) and I wish Fire Emblem would return to more maps like this.

I love the new guard stance/attack stance mechanics. The pair up system in Awakening was broken as f*ck - no enemies could use it, you almost always got several attacks (especially if you were using brave weapons) and guarding happened all the time with S rank partners.

I like the MyCastle - I wish it were expanded upon, but I thought it was a good direction for the series. I would love more caste-defender style maps with a terrain you got to create.

I like the ideas behind the MyRoom - getting to know your "waifu" and teammates in conversation-style one-on-one time is neat. Fire Emblem sets itself apart from other tactical rpgs by having a huge cast of unique characters. Getting to know them more was a good idea... I just think this iteration was a little awkward.

  9. Some characters reference their age (in round about ways). If I had to guess, I would say the following:

    Corrin: 17

Kaze & Saizo: 35 (In Kaze's support he said he was assigned to the guard that was around Corrin as a baby, meaning he and his twin have to be in their early to mid thirties)

Xander: 27 (In his support he was training with the sword outside Corrin's window when Corrin was still young, meaning he had to be old enough to start such exercises)

Ryoma: 25 (Younger than Xander simply because of the Rainbow Sage thing and that everyone references Xander as being the stronger one)

Male Kana: 11 (EVERYONE mentions that Kana is still a kid and EVERYONE treats him like a child. His voice hasn't deepened and still cracks, meaning hasn't hit puberty)

Sakura: 15 (In her final chapter she's an advanced unit and seems "older" than Elise on her "final chapter")

Elise: 14 (The youngest of them all, but physically capable of having children and "being an adult")

Everyone else is kinda up in the air for me (or its obvious - Gunter isn't a spring chicken anymore). I just think it's interesting to imagine how old Kaze is supposed to be, or that Xander is older than Ryoma.

  10. Best character is king Gannondorf. All he does is sit his ass on his throne all day and he is one of the Buffett characters in the game. That's some inspirational shit right there. Imagine if he was recruitable? He would be the most op character. Probably has s rank relationship with his chair

The s rank with his chair bit made me seriously laugh.

  11. Super disappointed in Keaton.

From his artwork he seemed... dapper. Sophisticated. Well-to-do. I thought that was an interesting take on a werewolf (most books/movie/games make them to be feral [or indian] or dog-like) so I thought this would go in a totally different and interesting direction.

Instead he's basically a dog. He wags his tail, he likes garbage and he's... not the brightest. Very bizarre given his vest and button-up shirt - and the fact you meet him in an opera house. Seriously, how did any of that scream dog? Just... bizarre.

  12. Yes. I totally came onto this board to post this very same thing.

Boo Camp is pretty disappointing. >.> The experience isn't that great and weaker characters struggle. I have to baby anyone and everyone I want to get experience. For paid DLC this sure seems like its wasn't worth the effort (unless people really need it on Conquest). Otherwise the normal skirmishes on Hoshido and Revelations are better bang for the buck, so to speak.

  13. Nina, Leo and Charlotte - all three of them became high favorites of mine while playing through the Nohr path. I'm hoping I'll find characters like that on the Hoshido path as well, since I don't much care for the design of much of the characters. >.>

  14. This combined with new weapon types starting at E rank and the slow wexp growth are super annoying. A Ninja promoting to Master Ninja will have to grind through a rank of swords that do less damage than your shurikens, don't debuff and can't hit at range. At least Bandit weapons can be used at E rank.

Yes! Thank you! Why is the weapon experience so f*ckin' slow? Why do all the base weapons suck so very hard? I swear its as if the game just wants to make me angry for adding a new weapon via promotion or reclassing...
