  1. RPGs (counting Strategy/Tactical RPGS (not sure of the exact diffeence), but less ARPGs) are pretty much the only game genre I I play through. For me aggod JRPGs must have either good characters, or a good world. For charatcers, I can do with bland characters, but absolutelly not for the unlikeable ones. Which is why, despite all the good I heard about Radiata Stories, I have a hard time getting into it. And obviously, that's one of my my major issue with FFX. Most characters weren't really interresting so far (and the cliché romance that you know won't last was getting on my nerve.), but Tidus ends up doing something really bad, and the game actually support his choice. I was actually really loathing at this point. As for the world, it doesn't need to be particularily complew or mysterious, but if I have fun discovering new places, and want to keep exploring, then it's fine. And I need to at least somewhat believe onit too. A great game world is actually one of the great strength of Pokémon games, especially later generations. The Alliance alive is really freaking great. The cast is great. What I particularily like is the fact there are no real leaders here. Some have a more important role (Tiggy and Vivian comes to mind. Gene is more of a strategist. ANd then there's Galil...), but it's mostly everyone working together. The world is really interresting as well, with lots of incidental game building. You have an info dump at one point, but things stay pretty vague. There's such an attention to details, too. They registereed different sounds from everyone's footstep, and depending on what they're walking on (snow, grass, wooden interiors). Which reminds me I still need to play through Suikoden and SaGA games one day. I'll always have been interrested by them, but never really got far into them. BTW, how is Romancing SaGa on Vita ? Is there some big issues, or is it OK ? I loved EOV despite the story, because (like every EO game), it creates a fascinating world. You want to always explore further, and see what new Stratum lies ahead. Besides, it has (relatively) good difficulty (at least on normal). The danger is part of the overall atmosphere, and solving each puzzles is incredibly rewarding. The game design is just incredible. A smart game that makes you feels smart.
  2. Don't forget Mr. Mime. All the others have been available in the wild in some way (Jynx is apparently found in the wild in Japanese Blue's Seafoam Island), but never Mr. MIme (not counting the gen 2 games here) You can actually find Farfetched and Lickitung. in the wild in Yellow. Lickitung itself in the wild (Lickitung is only available in the Cerulean Cave here) can actually be traded for Dugtrio.
  3. FRLG's main goal was to obtain all the old Pokémon that you couldn't get in Ruby and Sapphire, since you couldn't exchange with previus version. Actually, with those new games, we may end up on a similar situation. Transfer between Poké Bank and the Switch won't happens immediately. evolutions of the original Pokémon is a given, and probably soem way to obtain other fan favourite as well.
  4. Just curious. The second one, the third one or both ? Crystal : Chikorita. Not sure if I mentioned it already Black : Emboar. First time I used it in Black, (because I didn't really like it back then). White 2 : Snivy. I actually think of restarting with Oshavwot. Snivy is the worst choice, and in Challenge Mode will makes the game a little too hard. X : Fennekin. First named i t Blaise, but I renamed her Delphine, since it's suh a perfect nickname.
  5. I use everyone equally, because difference of levels stresses me.
  6. Gen 5 is 2010. Only the japanese release date is relevant here. Gen 5, 6 and 7 have exactly 3 years and 1 month. between each. ANd exactly 3 years betwen Gold/Sylver and Ruby/Sapphire. It doesn't mean we can't have a new region after 2 years, especially with USUM coming so shortly, after SM, but it never happened before. (Granted, with GF thinkng of patterns doesn't maks sense.). Gen 5 and 7 sold really well, despite doing some big changes (No old Pokémons until post game. Removing gyms). So I agree with the general feeling. I'd put it second just before BW2 personally. Simply because having the best game being a remake doesn't seems quite right. But it's the best remake ever (for Pokémon, but even in general. Staying true to the original while innovating at the same time.)
  7. @Interdimensional ObserverUnless you're referring to another game, the first 7th Dragon has a fan translation. I barely touched it, so I don't have much details though. I barely remembr the plot to be honnest. It was fun, but not long lasting. The post game difficulty wsa quite ridiculous. It's not that it's hard, it's just stupid. (the first levels are powered up versions of the dragons as regular encounters...).
  8. While can't my avatar have facial hair option, goddammit ? One one hand, no more Wingull, Zubat, and Tentacool. On the other hand, they added Patrat and Watchhog. And water zones have the same Pokémon over and over once again. Well, I tries to use as many new pokémons as possible, and to not always use the same Pokémon, so that's fine with me (I do use Metagross once every gen, but I avoid using Crobat and Gyarados too much, since I already used them too much) Honnestly BW problem for me was actually that they didn't went far enough, and puts tons of ancient Pokémons in the post game, even if it makes no sense. Dreamyard being the most ridiculous examples). But I learned to like gen 5 Pokémon because I really love the region. DP were... pretty disapointing game to me. They weren't bad game, but clearly they were running out of idea, and keeping the game for kids. And they totally ruined contests. Super contests are to contsts wwhat Festival Plaza is to PSS. (that's a minor nitpick, though...) I still like those games (I had my really first shiny and first Pokérus on my Diamond version after all), but the future didn't looked too good. I'll still buy Pokémon games, obviously, but would I evr enjoy them as much as So BW hearing all my complaints and sweeping aside all my worries. Yes, they still could do something new with POkémon. Gen 6 and gen 7 confirmed that they could still makes things new with the franchise. And then BW2 came out. Those games are just fantastic, and Challenge Mode is still one of the most intense Pokémon experience (Challenge mode CHeren. Nuff said). BW2 spoiled us too much honestly. That's becasue BW2 exists that USUM had such a bad reception (and because their marketing was utterly stupid.). It's a high quality remake with at least as much effort put into it as Platinum or Emerald after all. @Altrosa considering Alola was already planned when X Y came out, and X Y also references Omega Rubis and ALpha Sapphire, it's not unlikely that they planned this game for a while. Return to Kanto or RBY remake is an old idea honestly. It was talked about a lot in 2016, for the 20th anniversary. This year is actually the 20th anniversary of Pokémon Yellow) And that's not reserved to genwunners only (because I could make the same kind of argumets for those wanting a 4G remake, and that would be far wrong.) I mean, I started with Gen 1. Even if it's obviously the worst Pokémon generation (strangely enough, it's the bugs that still makes the games enjoyable to this day.), it was still fun replaying Yellow earlier this year. Gned 1 have a far broader appeal than just genwunners. They have a high sense of familiarity with many people.
  9. I meant that tbey didn't added new ones. Unless they totally change the way batlles played (which is still a possibility), they should keep both, but not adds any new ones. Bad formulation, sorry. There was an article some times ago about Pikachu (to celebrate some POkémon Go event I think) , and they mentioned Pikachu was supposed to have a third evolution named Gorochu. who was suppressed for vague reasons. And they don't have any pictures of it. Some speculated that dropping such a huge bomb for the first time may hint at this famed "Gorochu" appearing in the next set of games in some fom or another; Once again, we don't have any proof of anything. But that's a possibilty.
  10. They got rid of Megas. they'll got rid of Z Moves. I'm not particularily excited at what other kind of concept they would invent to break the meta game honnestly. Honestly, a remake (or reboot) of Gne 1 isn't that much of a bad idea. On 1 hand, there's already 11 games featuring Kanto. But they all start to date. HGSS is awesome, but it dates back to gen 4. And if you count only gen 1, FRLG are even older. Many things have changed in between, and it seems to be a sequel of sort, so why not. Also Kanto, as the first region, is the one with less personality, so rediscovering the region would also be interesting The possibility of few new Pokémons isn't totally excluded either actually. The recent" reveal" of Gorochu have made many talked about it. And Eevee means the possibility of a new eeveelution isn't totally excluded) But the number of Pokémons is a real issue. They want the serie to last as long as possible. But finding new and original designs become harder and harder (And I think they made a great job so far all yhings considered). And UBs is a trick you can only put once. ..Now I was particularily salty, and painted everything on a negative light. Sorry 'bout that. I just think that it's a bad arguent against a gen 1 remake because you're fighting nostalgia with nostalgia (I would prefer a new region personally. Not necessarily tons of new Pokémons, but simply discovering a new region is always exciting) While people constantly asking fro a 4G remake is annoying, because it wouldn't made much sense as the first Switch game, it does push back an eventual DPPt remake even further. And that's honestly annoying. Put tons of 4G reference on the next game GF ! Because I really want a Sinnoh remake. I only played through Diamond 11 years ago, and I want to enjoy the region properly this time. (Though no double screen means they'd have to co ... However it's just not exciting enough. Granted a 1G game is weird as well. But whether you lik it or not (I mostly care about Gen 1 because of Nostalgia), gen 1 just have a wider appeal (Pokémon Go, 1st time fans and so on.) I remain cautious, but they never made a bad game so far, so I'll wait for more information.
  11. See, that's why they're right to do this... (I actually pretty much agree with the rest of Armagon's post). First of all, if you just stop 2 second, you would understand that Pokémon Switch could have never been a Sinnoh Remake. If it had to be a remake, it could be only 1G. Whether I agree (I have.. mixed feeling honnestly. Gen 8 is so obviously the best choice for me.)) or want a Sinnoh Remake (I actually am quite positive), is irrelevant. I can developp why if you want, but this is pretty obvious. There are high chance of it comming on a few years. If it's not the second main Pokémon games on switch, then you'll have all the reason to complain, but as hard as the waiting is, have patience. Secondly... Pokémon fans doesn't really care about originality. The most vocal portion actually seems to... loathe it. People only recently strted to admit than gen 5 was great, and gen 7 is, right now, really disliked. Instead the new genwunners are asking for a remake of one of the less innovative and original Pokémon game. That doesn't stop Sinnoh to be a really good region, and DPPt to be really good games, but while it added a lot competitively, and the Physical/Special split is a cool mechanics, it doesn't compare to what 2G (breeding, daily events + day/night cycle, and too much thing to note) or 3G (Double Battles AKA the official competitive tier ; Natures and Abilities)
  12. NISA's transaltions sems to be more or less on the same level of Bandai Namco, form what I've sen. I don't want to be particularily rude towards NISA, but it's hard not to see their attitude as purely oppportunist. XSeed translated Trails because they cared about the series, and wanted to bring it t, but I'm not sure it's a great idea.o the West. NISA published the game in Europe because XSeed wasn't able to do it themselves. They are at the top of the game, no doubt about it. NISA taking care of the translations and centralizing everything is purely pragmatic, but I'm not concinced it's the bets solution. @Interdimensional Observer While I could write page about my relation to FFX, a general JRPGs Thread would avoid more thread derivation, discuss common points and difference between JRPGs. (I think comparing the relation towards relgion in DQVII could be interresting as well.)
  13. My main issue with the game wasn't purely logical though. It's simply that nothing in this game hooked me. Everything following is purely my opinion, obviously : THe character weren't particularily likeable or interresting, the world is beautifull, but feels really fake, and empy... And the love story... It's Romeo and Juliet by person that doesn't understand Romeo and Juliet. Since I don't care about the character, how can I think about a love story that is fated to fall before even starting ? Despite this, I'll still defend Tidus Laugh Scene , because it was actually a good one. Starting from there every little issues took too much importance, and it ended up being more a chore than anything to finish it. SO I didn't really bothered about the post game at this point. So people who were deeply moved by this game (and they seems to be the majority) is an unsolvable mystery to me. That's also why I prefered FFX-II. It's incredibly dumb, but it not taking itself seriously paradoxically helped me immersing me in the game easier. (We really should make another topic for this) It's totally different than my complaints about Cold Steel. The game have a few hooks, and many good thing on it, but it choses to focus on less interresting thing instead, or to make some questionable choices (mainly being "too anime", to put it simply) that breaks the immersion (and the immersion is a very important part of the serie). Every game has flaws, but a good game isn't flawless. You just forget flaws are here.
  14. Personnally, mitigated review doesn't bother me. It allows me to have a more "understanding" approach, and forgive his flaws better. Because, honestly, none of the two Cold Steel games are totally awfull. Annoying. Frustrating. But not truly game-breaking either. CS and CS2 are good games. We may be quite harsh on the game, but (I can't talk for others here,) I actually liked them. They could be better, they could be great I even think hearing this about Cold Steel would have allowed me to have a better impression. Because Sky (especially SC) put the expectations quite high, especially character-wise. So lowering them a bit would have helped. On the other hand, I personally have harder time with excessively positive review (evn if I may be really enthusiastic as well about certain games). Because it puts extremely high expectations on a game that, most of the time, won't be able to reach. That fact certainly played a role in my ...lukewarm reaction to FFX.
  15. Well, this sems to be the perfect topic to lay down my opinion on the Pokémon Franchise, and why I keep playing after all those years. I don't wanna be the very best like no one ever was. I don't even care about catching them all. It's just too much of bother, honnestly. - First, for the adventure. Exploring and discovering a whole new region is a blast every time. I started with Gen 1 (the objectively worse generation.) But this genration have a saving grace : the bugs. Now, outside all of the crazy things you could do with them (and I also got an AR latr on...), it affected me on a more personal leveel. It was a whole unknown (and terrifying) world that opened in front of my eyes. Glitch city is a place of pure madness (that changed depending of the location. The Cycle Road ones is a favorite of mine). and Missingno... Well a "new Pokémon" is exciting, especially one as mysterious (Like only Mew was more of a mistery). And then came Gen 2. The timed events that encourages you to visist some places again, the Unowns (especially in Crystal), all the mysterious caves and places that you had no reasons to visit on the main story, full of mysteries to unveil. A particularily notable example for me is that beach on Route 34, where three female trainer challenges you for a soft sand. I was so happy to discover this place by myself. Gen 7 actually have that somewhat (epecially USUM. People have good reasons to complain about this, but the "7 mysteries of the school" quest makes the game fully worth it to me. THere was tons of little detailsl aside that made the game really fun to play.) -Second reason, the Pokémon obviously. And here I also like SUn Moon, because it teached me how to play through Gen 6. ORAS will still be hard to play through (I doubt I'll ever finish that game honnestly.), but I'm currently replaying through X and really enjoying it. In gen 6 and 7, I have a really large team of 6+ Pokémon (I arbitrary chosed to stop at 18. At least 1 of each type) rotating them along the way. I don't bother about old Pokémon returning, because with 800+ mons, that make a lot of different ones to try. And some Pokémons weren't really interresting until quite recently, like Venomoth, Masquerain, Pelipper... And that's also why Nature don't bother me that much. first of all, there's the Synchronise ability that gives you higher chance of getting the desired Pokémon (Which is why Adamant Abra may actually be a blessing in disguise). And it means if I find a Pokémon with a good nature,I can immediately put it in my team. I plan some along the way, but it adds variety. That's how I ended up using a Sawk in my current X Playthrough. And new Pokémon being "rip-offs" of oldr ons don't bother me. One thing Mimikyuu teached us is that the copy can surpass the original. And Sawsbuck, my all-time favorite could be considered a Stantler clone after all. (since they're both deers) * However my one main complain about Gen 7 is Festival Plazza. PSS was simpel and relatively efficient, so obviously they replaced it with a broken and unintuitive system. It also amnages to be also worse than Join Avenue, its direct model, since it's entirely random. Trading and fighting is one of the main component of the serie, so that's just uforgiveable.
  16. Can't say for the Crossbell game, but you will get some bonuses for 3rd. It also happens between CS1 and CS2 (and probably CS3 and CS4 as well), but not between different series (so no transfer from Sky to Crossbell to CS). She's only the second best loligeener in Vidéo Game history, but she's defiinitely the cutest.
  17. 90% of the interaction between Elise and Rean gives me OreImo's war flashbacks. Ugh. CS2 is as much a mess as CS but not exactly for the same reasons.
  18. Without spoiling, those effects are only on certain places, and relatively late in the game. So, don't worry to much.
  19. The problem with Rean isn't Estelle. It's Joshua. Because Estelle is in a whole other category. My feelings about CS are more mixed than on SKy so far (CSII). It has some really great moments, but also extremely bad ones. (CS do everything to make you leave the game on the first few chapters, seriously.) It also comes from the most disjointed way of telling its story.
  20. Jynx is also the perfect Pokémon to hunt the legendary beasts in Gn 2, with a combination of Mean Look, good speed, and Lovely Kiss. I hate Smoochum, because ut's the first shiny I missed (it doesn't even look like a shiny, dammit.) It's sad that you can't tell anymore that you like Gardevoir... It's a really cool Pokémon. And it's not even an humanoid, it's on the Amorphous Egg Group. And, as often is the case for me, I like Gardevoir because of my Gen II Gardevoir that helped me catch Darkrai (Synchonize Ability + Timid Nature. I lost the cartridge, but it doesn't matter) and defeating the league with Calm Mind + Future Sight. Speaking of Psychic Type Pokémon (yeah, amazing transition, I know), I forgot to mention Sigilyph. This Pokémon's Design is just so cool, so mysterious. And it's pretty good as well.
  21. I'm surprised no one mentioned this before. Though it's not really the system itself, but everything related to it that bothers me. Amongst them, teh story problem and more Avatar worshipping Which leads me to my point : S Rank Support. Now, I'm not against romantic pairings, obviously. But they doesn't need to be systematic. Eirika X Saleh isn't romantic, and it's still excellent. The fact that, quite often they come out of nowhere, just because we need more kids options, is quite story breaking. And the Avatar worship just makes it worse. How am I supposed to care about Fates' story if I can date my entire family, including my underage sister ("Skinship! WIth your little sister! Skinship with your little sister!"). That makes the opposition between Xander and Ryoma just a fight between two fuckbois instead of a clash of ideals. And that's really sad. It also lead to some circumovoluted explanations that totally misses the point. It's not the only issue with Fates' plot, but it made the game far worse, only because of fanservice. The other problem with systematic S Rank is that it reduces character interactions. If all the interactions between male and female have to end a specific way, it reduces the possibiliies. Speaking of the Avatar. Give us a real Avatar. Corrin and Robin aren't avatars. If I hack Binding Blade to change Roy's portrait and name, I'll have the exact same result. It's not a real Avatr, but nothing more than a marketing plan that ends up worsening the games. The best avatar is Mark (beacause it's the only real avatar. Though, Kris is debatable...). Also, nothing breaks more the immersion than a character supposedly representing us acting in a manner that contradict how we act. That's part of the reason Robin and Corrin gets so much backlash btw. Ans I actually liked Ftaes and Awakening. Gameplay-wise, Fates does lots of great things. And Awakening was really fun.
  22. The problem in the Tellius Games is that there isn't any Map System. Which means you suffer from it. You have no control over it, and its an unnecessary limitation most of the time. With a way to control it, it would actually be really interresting. And maps system means you could control the way it works to accomodate your playstyle, instead of trying to adapt your playstyle to it.
  23. I can understand that. I made my FE and Pokémon runs way harder because of this.
  24. Subs boost the number somewhat (though they gives so many different buils options, that it may be an even bigger issue...). And you can still do what I did in EOV : Share the experience between all classes. No non-Humans classes though... Anyway this is fantastic news ! Hopefully we'll get more information soon.
