  1. Gaming has historically been a culture that's not friendly to women. Y'know, because Big G Gamers are a bunch of misogynists. This leads to less women wanting to get into the culture, which means the folks producing it market their stuff to women less often, which leads to Big G Gamers feeling satisfied in the fact that gaming is biologically not for women. Self-fulfilling prophecies galore. I really don't, but not to worry. I shall give him the worthiest of deaths in the new hack. I did say it "simulates" the original GBA's lighting. It's an aproximation. An accurate one, from what I've gathered, but an aproximation. This is indeed an early screenshot. Perhaps from before they realized this color palette would make the grass look like swamp goop on the GBA's dimly lit screen, and the villages would be an indecipherable dark shape? ...Hey, I just noticed, the female mercenary world sprite is there. It survived all the way to FE8, where it's still an unused artifact in the files. Huh.
  2. IntSys halfassed... What? Again, the whole reason of the textures looking like that was an unavoidable hardware limitation. Of course applying a filter that simulates the lighting conditions of the GBA is going to fix the looks. The filter is how they looked on the GBA, it's emulators lacking the hardware issue that are the problem here. What, you wanted IntSys to fix the GBA's lack of backlight themselves? Everything is yellow because the yellows become brown-ish when the lighting is less saturated. Just look once more at the screenshot I posted. The yellow tiles outside Etruria Castle become an ocre tone much closer to the floors of Thracia you just posted there. The greens are brighter but much more clearly green, and the blues aren't nearly as loud. Again, this filter is not me fixing the game. It's how the game looked originally. At least, as I understand it.
  3. Yeah, should've clarified. And yes, it's Ovo, Lamia and Macbeth. I just find it rather amazing that decidedly-major'ish-villain Chagall wasn't good enough.
  4. Yeah, true. The less anyone resembles Seth, the better. I find it curious how this almost seems to hint at Waltz himself also being recruitable. But nah, his awesome hat is just not as cool as Beowulf's... uh, whatever it is he has that makes him cool? Yes, Sylvia's substitutes are unironically better than the kids. Especially her son's sub, who comes with a good staff only he gets. The main kid, meanwhile, is super annoying to make into anything good. I'm not that militant a fan of Finn. I will, however, champion the cause of fucking peggy sues over any day. So yeah, fuck Erinys, she can have a bench. And surely you jest. I would never do that to your cards. instead, I'd steal your packs and replace them with Spanish packs. You should thank me, they're way cooler. I thought this was difficult to make happen lmao, so much for FE4's OP Miracle We can't all be as blessed with creativity as that guy. Have I mentioned yet the fun fact that Macbeth is one of three bosses in the entire game to have a fully unique portrait? 'Cause he totally is. The list does not include Chagall, something that never fails to amuse me. Well, it's used by a bossman much, much later in the game, so... Sigurd being a dumbass is, if nothing else, a consistent plot point.
  5. Sacred Stones further darkened the sprites, with darker, more contrasting dark tones and an almost black (if still purple) outline. Yeah, I feel they were probably figuring things out in FE6 and gradually dialed it back over the following GBA entries. Fairly certain the intention was to make him look very sickly. It's just a bit less noticeable when everyone is yellow.
  6. See, the problem there is the same as with changing the lance family of weapons to spear. Everyone is used to the weird unfiltered colors, so changing them would inevitably result in a solid 10-20% of the thread's posts being "WHY IS THE COLOR WEIRD" and having to explain that over and over, and then another solid 10-20% being people asking you to make a version of the patch that has the normal colors, and in the end the thing just causes more hassle than anything else. So, I say, the mGBA filter is there. People can use it if they feel like it.
  7. Thanks for the spoiler, Acacia. I can't believe Sepiroth takes off his face and it is revealed he's Donald Duck underneath.
  8. Indeed! Since the GBA was so dark, GBA games were made with vibrant, bright, washed out color palettes to compensate. They weren't intended to be super bright, but they needed to be so you could actually see something on the console. Emulators, of course, don't have this problem, so they display the games in their original, not-exactly-intended glory. However, mGBA, the current best GBA emulator, comes packed with a shader you can turn on that simulates the GBA's darker lighting. Trying it on explains a few things. Check this out: FE6 as most of us know it on emulator on the right, vs aproximately what it looked like in original hardware on the left. It's a world of difference. That looks much better. It's also quite noticeable in the portraits. Using the earlier example... The purples on his hair become gray, the dark purple outline becomes black and the yellows on his face become a more natural skin color. Note that, with this filter on,Vigarde still looks yellow. It's actually even more noticeable when everyone else actually has more realistic white skin. Haha, quite true. Sure, go ahead, why not. Spoiler tabs, DMs, whatever everyone feels is best.
  9. @Interdimensional Observer Yeah, observe what happens if I turn on the filter to simulate the original GBA coloring. I mean, there's still the red armor and the 17 defense, but the gemstone pattern was not kept for their statlines in general.
  10. Well, there is also something there, if I reach for it. In many ways, some more obvious than others, he is the odd one out among the Grado generals. ...though the real explanation is probably that his hair is meant to be greying black, but they made it purplish to account for the GBA's lighting. Keep in mind, even the outline color these games use is not black, it's purple. Most characters with black hair also have purple tones, though it's less pronounced than with Duessel because Duessel's hair is greying. When you use the filter that simulates GBA's original coloring, these purple tones turn much blacker. When I get to my computer I'll check how he looks with the filter on, see if I'm on to something. Also, in his OA (original, not Heroes) his hair is also much more monocrome. Yeah, agreed. I know Riev isn't the most original villain but between him being a light-wielding bishop and having a baller title like Blood Beryl, I find myself placing him high among the Gharnefs. Also the laugh tic is fun, sue me. Wait, people actually expected that plot point to be preserved? I'm not even a FF fan and I could've told you they were going to change that.
  11. You're the reading guy, Wraith. Work on your reading comprehension.
  12. Well, you do play as the bad guys. Hey, you probably would like the hack! You get to kill children! "With this sword, Suvidarg, I am all but invincible. A pity you had to waste your life." - Sumac Unicorn Overlord Runan is a really funny case because he was less copyright infringing before the lawsuit forced Kaga to change his design. I mean, sure, signature blue hair, but at that point he was in a similar position to Alain here where he made you go "yeah Marth at home lol" but he didn't exactly resemble anyone in particular. Then Kaga gave him brown hair and instead turn him into literally just Leif. Brilliant.
  13. I mean, "we" is kind of the incorrect pronoun to use when you are not excited for it and I've my mind fully set on making a fangame where I give a playable cast I like horrible deaths one after the other. Already Garcia has found his son's mangled corpse. And the answer to your question is, good gameplays and good precedent set by the development company.
  14. Lmaooooooooo it really is just fucking Camus. I love it, they're not even trying. Even Kaga tried harder when he was making Emblem Saga! At least make him a redhead or something, set him apart a bit!
  15. It's even consistent with his sunken, baggy insomnia eyes. He would totally do that. It's always money. It's always the money.
  16. You ever think about how Selena has fluorspar pendants, Valter and Glen's color palettes are moon and sun themed, Riev and Duessel's hair matches the colors of their respective stones and Caellach... ...I don't know how Caellach fits into the pattern. He doesn't look much like a tiger eye, or a tiger for that matter. He does have massively sunken eyes. I guess his armor is black and his hair is red, which is... sometimes the color pattern of a tiger eye? Actually with the large eye bags that color pattern also applies to his eyes specifically. Huh. I just find the fluorspar pendants neat. Selena compensates for not being the best villain in a game filled with awesome villains by having a great design.
  17. Sigurd? Sigurd! SIGUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRDDDD - Oifey when Sigurd dies to the very first group of brigands in the game, something that can objectively happen. FE4's gameplay is kind of a blur for me, I won't lie. Didn't realize the ramifications this'd have. Both B. Blade and B. Blade give Marcus piss all for experience when killing earlygame bosses. It's Stones that... somehow screwed with the EXP gains and now Seth is the most broken unit in the series. And yes, Old Marcus is best Marcus. That's about what I recall of him, yes. Finn can pull meme miracle strats, but Quan just sort of exists. Horse in Horse Emblem good, Adept in Pursuit Emblem bad. FE4's balance is a harsh mistress. Only if he dies. Which he can. Bad unit.
  18. Bad unit feel lmao You know, I never did think about it but it might truly be worth just ignoring Lacky. I mean, to be honest, that's the way it should be just period. I don't think there are many FEs where the boss kill doesn't give you at least some extra EXP. It just feels right. This is a funny death quote. I know bosses lamenting the loss of their wealth, power, etc. over their actual death is common, but this guy's just sad about his house specifically. I don't know, there's something weirdly amusing about that to me. It's like this dude wanted to lament the loss of his great something, but then remembered he's a nobody who has nothing great, so he just cried about the one thing he has: A castle. Not even a particularly good one, he just has a castle. But hey, it's his castle! Naturally. The neighboring castle might have the money he needs to buy more toilet paper!
  19. Bah, Yuzu's paywalled early access builds were piss easy to obtain. Pretty sure there's a github repo with them that's like, second or third result on Google when looking for Yuzu lol. Not to mention Ryujinx is increasingly more widely regarded as the superior option as time goes on anyway. Personally, I find the possibility of Nintendo being enabled into declaring war on emulation far more dangerous than the continued existence of one group of greedy emulator devs. Yes, correct. Generics cool. This is all true, but again, the problem's the precedent and the possibility that they'll start hunting after other emulators. There's a good chance nothing'll come out of this, but still. It'd be even better if Ninty just failed and the message was "emulators aren't so easy to mess with." With their amount of money, though...
  20. I want to believe people would find a way even in the worst case scenario, but still. If Ninty successfully bullies Yuzu into submission here, even just by settling out of court - in fact, that's likely what they are truly going for - it's going to set a bad precedent. A precedent of "Nintendo has all the money and everyone has to bow down before them, even if emulation is technically legal." Of course, again, Yuzu aren't exactly saints here. Paywalling an emulator is a dick move. All in all, though, I'd rather Nintendo eats shit and deems it more worthwhile to stay away from emulation.
  21. Actually, you know what? I take back what I said before. Nintendo needs to eat shit on the Yuzu front. If they win that it's going to set a dreadful precedent. ROM preservation sites are like a hydra, but emulators are a different story. If they start bringing the axe down on those, game preservation's going to stagnate as more consoles come out and nobody is able to make emulators for them, or update existing emulators to be better. Which of course, means more money for Nintendo when they sell you the games back for another 50 bucks! I'm so happy for them and for the fans of Really Popular Games (no other games will ever see the light of day again).
  22. All things considered, it probably wouldn't affect things that much, but... Well, this is the same game that employs forcefields to stop you from interfering with the battle setpiece. They could've acknowledged still it in some way that wouldn't have been much of a hassle, though. Doesn't even have to be with those two specifically - just say that Claude needs the corpse to be able to rouse the dead. Obviously, since the Leonster lovebirds die in the middle of the desert with not a soul escaping to tell the tale, there's nobody to retrieve their bodies, and thus they can't be restored. Easy. Tangentially related fun fact: Quan and Ethlyn can potentially survive the onslaught. If he makes it, Quan will move to seize Phinora, and then... he just softlocks your game lmao, you need to seize the castle to progress but you can't seize it from allies. Otherwise, if any Leonster units are still alive and you seize the castle, they just vanish and the game moves on as if they all died. Nothing all that amazing, but little scenarios the game doesn't account for like this are always fun.
  23. I just rather like how he has essentially Sandima's role and then he dies an anticlimatic cutscene death without even being fought on the battlefield. I could never hope to do him as dirty as the game itself did lol I got the results of the test back~ I totally have major Lopto blood. I mean, she should feel flattered. Doggie is the best written, developed and acted character in the movie. Gotta give him credit when it's due. Kaga does not always Kaga, just often.
  24. Lmao use it on Quan and Ethynol The only correct way to play Fates is with the Gay Fates mod. You get gayness, and you get to keep the most important character in the game, Izana, in Rev. Also it's made by some incredibly cool people who deserve all the downloads.
