  1. I'll have to take a look, because if it is just Kaga's ending slides but instead of picking them on a menu you use Alain as a glorified cursor, I'm still beating you with the sign. He's been described to me as a very generic problem man, and the design is so lazy that I couldn't imagine them putting much more effort into him than that. I'd probably laugh at him.
  2. I don't know how the epilogue of UO goes, so no comment there. I swear if you tell me it's just that every character gets their own ending scene where they interact with the protagonist or other characters, say their farewells and conclude their arcs, I'm putting Kaga's iconic picture on a sign and beating you on the head with it I mean, fair, but the conversation here was about the plot, not about the worldbuilding. Remember that I argue Fates's class and weapon system add to its worldbuilding in a way that nobody ever gives it credit for. I'd still not argue Fates's plot is anything but a meme lol. It can have great worldbuilding and also have Baltros as its main villain. ...Though in all honestly, Baltros seems like the kind of character I'd be really fond of, if anything. I mean look at my pfp Yeah, well, I don't have the level of confidence you have in Vanillaware. ...Or, honestly, most developers. I've never bought a collector's edition of anything and I'm not certain I ever will. It just seems like a major waste of money to me personally. I get value out of the game, not a few trinkets styled after it. Of course, there's the possibility that I love a game enough to want the trinkets styled after it, but by the time I've gotten the game and grown to love it, release date has come and gone and now I need to pay a scalper 500 bucks for the trinkets. Oof.
  3. Hmm. Honestly? Still feels too high for the amount of concerns I have. And lol preordering, lmao even
  4. It's funny you should say that actually, 'cause one of them said that comparing UO to old FE is an insult to old FE, unless the comparison is being made to Archanea specifically, in which case it's an insult to UO. Not bad. Wouldn't be the first time I've enjoyed a game that's not so difficult, though as I've said before, concerns become dealbreakers when the price is 60€ and the platform is not PC. Still hoping for that Cex copy coming in clutch. C'mon, people. The Cex price actually doesn't convince me either, but I still got some of those trading funds leftover from the Three Houses / Metroid Dread fiasco. Could use them to cut into the price and get it for a decent... I dunno, 30 bucks maybe? It'd be more willing to go for that. Especially since I'd be able to sell it back to Cex for the full amount if I don't like it.
  5. I like how the little portrait is not corrected. No no, she was talking about the twist at the very end. Into which I won't go because, well, the twist at the very end lol, there's basically no bigger spoiler. Without going into detail, though, she (and someone else there too) said that it was a twist that should've happened earlier in the story so it could capitalize on it properly, and as it is, they found themselves not caring about it whatsoever, which made the ending lose all weight with them. The game ending on a whimper made their already low opinion of the story sink even further. I cannot speak for that as they did not go as much into detail and I did not see it (actually thinking about it they may have just been talking about the story, I'm not so sure now). Will wait for you guys' own opinions.
  6. When the person I'd been watching play occasionally finished the game, she said it took a big dive in both story and gameplay at the end. Shame, but it's not like it's the only SRPG that suffers from this. These games tend to struggle with presenting a satisfying gameplay conclusion. I've been keeping track of Cex. See if UO pops up in my local one. They have a handful of copies now, but all of them are in other shops around Spain. Oh well. I'm not in a hurry, it's more of a "hey if it lines up" deal.
  7. That's all true, but it's not quite what I meant. It's a little hard to explain, but it doesn't feel like Grannvale itself is the focus of its chapters, so to speak. Chapter 2 is entirely dedicated to explaining the situation in Agustria, showcasing its political strife and corruption, before devoting another chapter to its order of finest knights and their dumbass king that led them all to ruin. Meanwhile, it feels like the Grannvale chapters are more focused on specific characters and the overarching plot of Manfroy's Fun Incest Times. You don't get as much of a feel on the country of Grannvale as a whole, and then in gen 2 it's basically just "Loptyr's puppet state." Though maybe I'm just rambling here. I don't know, maybe it's just because I find chapters 2 and 3 (before Orgahill) to be the height of this game's narrative, The Funny notwithstanding. As you already know, Genealogy of the Holy War is a flawed game. Why did you have to do this? Oh. ...I forgor lmao I do know there is a version of FE4 that calls him Trabant. Possibly the one before this. Or maybe older versions of this, heck if I know. Conventions? A lot of stuff we take for granted now can be attributed to Thracia and later FE6 but desert maps is something Kaga decidedly loves. He puts at least one in all of his games, all of them, even the ones after he left. And also, yeah, like Jotari says, it helps the Quan setpiece. Though it comes at the cost of it having to come back later in gen 2 as a bad map you have ot play through...
  8. Yeah, that was my reaction as well. Pretty sure the plowed snow is due to palette limitations and if not for that the upper bit of the map would be snowy, but I always thought everything east of Zaxsachsenson was just Grannvale territory. I'm fairly certain that was the case in the old translation before Project Naga. The real deep lore of FE4: Reptor and Langbalt cared for Byron and ensured he made a full recovery. A year later, he tripped and fell down the stairs, hitting his head. This gave him a sad case of dementia, making him think Reptor and Langbalt were his enemies, despite the fact that they'd become the greatest friends in the year prior (a really clever parallel to Zigludo, Quando and Eltosian). Out of guilt for not making their castles more elderly-friendly, Reptor and Langbalt decided to pretend to be evil dudes to commit suicide by Sigurd. Source: My uncle works at Nintendo. David Cage. A true pioneer. You can tell he's a true pioneer because the only good parts of his widely-regarded best game are only good because the actors adlibbed the shit out of them, but people still attribute it to Cagey Davey. The fact that he's a household name of the industry fills me with sadness.
  9. I liked the fact that he's just a garbage bag with a beard. They barely even bothered with this dude lol Didn't see much of his character (the one scene of his I saw, he got overshadowed by this towering lady in full body armor) but he seemed entirely forgettable.
  10. Hey, animated beard though. That's amazing. ...Yeaaah... It's funny how Agustria gets two chapters of development all to itself while Grannvale is just... sort of supposed to be taken seriously by default, somehow? Luckily gen 2 is coming to the rescue. Gen 2 will be the one to develop Grannvale, surely. Ohhhhh. Interesting. According to wikipedia it was so difficult to get a Trabant that the ones who did manage became so careful with their new treasure that the average lifespan of the thing ended up being around 28 years. Holy shit. ...And of course IntSys officialized the Travant spelling that means nothing. Though in this case I kind of feel it's probably for the best. The reference has nothing to do with anything (especially with Thracia being meant to reference Spain in some way that makes sense only in Kaga's brain) and it doesn't do many favors to Travant to be named after a crappy car from soviet-occupied Germany lol
  11. And the award for least unexpected take goes to... The local Oshi No Ko fan.
  12. Anyway, now that I have successfully convinced Ping to genocide the peggy sues, it's time for a proper response. I think I liked her better when she was an inconsistent amnesiac Robin Hood type. I always forget the King of Grannvale is not only still alive, but also makes an appearance in the game. This shit is what happens when you refuse to give your main antagonist any screentime for half the game. It's really convenient that he endured his grievous, mortal wounds for 400~ days until he reached Sigurd, then immediately kicked the bucket. I know we've been over this but... Sheesh, it's just so dumb. All they had to do was not establish him as mortally injured in chapter 3! I sure hope he's not a dickhead with the exact same portrait and role in the story. Thus falls Langbalt. A man whose beard power is inversely proportional to how interesting he was as a character. Not to worry, though - Dannan can still carry the family legacy to greatness and be the awesome, multi-layered antagonist his father could not be. 'Notha happy landing. - Oifey upon reaching Isaach Wait a minute, how did this happen? We're smarter than this! - Oifey upon getting news of chapter 5's ending (5 minutes after arriving in Isaach) Awww I never noticed that. That's so cute. Uhhhhhhhhh Well. Yes and no? Ethlyn is a hybrid? Of what? Sorry This other typo's also fun. Turns out Travant was only after Quan's money all along. Get your own evil laugh, Manny, that one's taken. By someone who came after you, sure, but on the other hand, he's way fucking cooler than you are. If I recall the portrait is reused without changes in gen 2, so you'll get some milleage out of it yet. Fun fact: In my FE4 run, I put her and her squad in charge of decimating Sigurd's army for substitutes. It was a fun time. I even made a meme about it. It feels weird because it contains a huge spoiler, but you know, it's the spoiler, so it spoils basically no one thanks to the FE fanbase having zero regard for keeping this a secret. It was back when I still had that avatar. Good times. I never knew he was a car. Huh. Also him being spelt with a B in this translation always throws me for a loop. Hey hey, I got a brilliant idea: Traßant Shucks...
  13. Fuck. Uh... Oh I got it. We are both proud communists. That means your playlog is our playlog. So clearly... Eh? Eh?
  14. Okay, listen. We are both proud members of capitalist society. Let us cut a deal: you kill Erin before the end of gen 1, and I stop using the letter ß as a B. How 'bout it?
  15. You actually reminded me to pick something up. I had some funds lying around from my birthday (cool cousin gifted me Steam funds lol). Grabbed this game called En Garde, which I've had described as Spanish Swashbuckler Sifu But Worse, which frankly sounds right up my alley, and this other game called The Case of the Golden Idol, which has been described to me as Return of the Obra Dinn, which is also right up my alley. I'll play them... sometime. Currently too busy trying to scrape some bits of personality from Seth's soon-to-be cold, dead body.
  16. Both, actually. And don't diss my girl FE8 Messenger. She's a cool gal. I like her design better than most peggy sues. She's at least different. I'd take her over Vanessa.
  17. I found him perfectly fine on my second run. Guy's more defensive-oriented, he can tank a few mean hits. And he made great use of the war pick. That being said, yeah, the wombo-combo of being offensively unimpressive and being stuck with Vestaria's axes is unfortunate. He could probably use a bit of a buff.
  18. Thanks. I did it in like five minutes actually, just stole Hannibal's beard from FE5 and touched it up a bit. He took a habit of sunbathing while on the ship to another continent, gaining a mean tan. On the other hand, the stress of living in Ced's shadow made his hair white out early. That would've been cool too, and I genuinely don't get why they didn't do that. It's not even like her death does anything for the plot (it doesn't) or achieves any kind of dramatic note (nobody ever mentions her again and she's immediately overshadowed by Emmeryn's own demise). And he does all that without stinky holy blood. He's a real man, you see. A chad, you could even say. Byron is poor lmao This is why Sharlow >>>> Cairpre. It's all retribution for Jeorge. America is to blame. Thanks. I'm actually sitting on a whole array of beard edits for the entire cast of Berwick Saga. I'm waiting for the right moment to unleash them. Yeah, figures. Oh well.
  19. No, not that meme. ...Or wait, isn't she the cousin? Now I'm thinking I've mixed things up... Big oof.
  20. I cannot help it. It's too deeply ingrained in my ßrain. Well... Since there's a 97% chance you won't see him, here, I'll spoil the surprise. Open if you will.
  21. Phila when she got the memo that her only different with the Hierarch is screentime. Is it time for me to bring up my long-standing idea that she should've been a game-long traitor villain? As it is she just kind of has no reason to exist lol
  22. Inb4 Lußeck Meißen. Kaga was reaaaaaaaaally counting on that silver sword carrying the dude. Honestly, yeah. Arvis probably should've showed up a couple more times. Maybe have him go to Sigurd between chapters 2 and 3 acting as a mediator or something. Have him meet Deirdre there, sow the seeds for later developments. Brightbow already said, but it bears repeating. My guy's been hanging on to dear life for a whole fucking year. Weren't you the one that killed Ring, though? ...Oh, no, he was accused of being a co-conspirator by Reptor and Langbalt and then André murdered him. So he's just... chastising André for the killing even though his own accusation would've likely led to the same result? Weird flex, but ok Yeah, I feel like he'd at least resort to "milord" for short. Though I'm willing to believe this could be a Project Naga thing. Good memories of trying to have Sigurd solo this group on his way to Byron. He died. I had to regroup and send the army together. Not to be confused with hit character and beloved fan favorite, Hawke. Whom you won't be getting because you're foolishly refusing to cater this LP to my tastes. For no particular reason, may I point out that there's still time to make Erin suffer a tragic accident.
  23. Actually, it probably could've been done in Orgahill with just a bit of map redesigning. And it'd feel a lot less stupid than this. That's a nice idea too. Still makes Daccar out to be the biggest dumbass but it alleviates a far bigger problem. She's so fucking cool. And so is Wendell, of course. This is the kind of shit Archanea direly needed.
  24. Woulda been a nice opportunity to give him a character trait that isn't just "I'm extremely generic!" Once again. Recurring plot point. Thanks, Kaga. Ismaire compensates by being like, the most beautiful woman in FE. I almost cannot blame Carlyle. Almost. ...That, and she's a pretty baller swordmaster in the CC with an otherwise unobtainable sword (well you can get it as a rare drop from cyclops in the two dungeons but, details). It's just a shame the main campaign relegated her to Plot Device duties. They even made a special cutscene class that cannot fight for her so she doesn't WTA Caellach's sorry ass. What a damn shame. SS's lategame was rather lacking in prepromotes and she could've slotted right in with her rare sword. And it might've been a good opportunity for some of that coveted Magvel Worldbuilding if the two Jehannan royals could interact longer than 30 seconds. Genealogy is better in this aspect than the entire series, pretty much, except Fates and I think that's it? Female generics are basically nonexistent for most of the games, outside of strictly female-locked classes. This little gang of femme fatales alone puts Genealogy well ahead of the pack in that regard.
