  1. Let's see who we have here... Sakura Spirit Don't go on Steam and look up "Sakura"; there's a whole library of visual novels with dirty imagery that go by "Sakura" something or other. There's a strange yet hilarious dissonance where she's super strong in-game, but really timid in story and supports. Why does she need to be protected when she could probably one-shot one of her own retainers (Subaki)? Anyway, I like her well enough. Obviously, she's sort of like the moon to Elise's sun, as she's very shy, while Elise is very outgoing. The background to her timidness is centered around Corn, but that's okay. She has some nice supports. All around, she's a pretty good character. Percy I hardly knew ye, Percy. That is, I've hardly used this guy. I don't have much of an opinion. Kind of a dirty thing for him to sick a bunch of relatively innocent, clueless mercs on his dad just because he was having emotional fits. At least you can use dragon veins to send 'em off without hurting them.
  2. I can't, for the life of me, imagine why you, of all people, would like that particular one. *Sarcasm* Anyway, I think more in terms of characters who have generally good supports rather than individual supports, as there are so many pairings. Some might guess one of the characters whose supports I like nobody expects the fashionista's inquisition. I also like Takumi's, Leo's, some of Xander's, Beruka's (the ones I've SCENE, anyway don't you love MGS puns?), Shiro's, Forrest's, Mozu's, and some others. Even though I don't particularly like Corn, I do like his/her supports with Oboro and Mozu, if only because I like those two characters. I do also greatly enjoy Takumi x Leo, as I think it demonstrated a wonderful transition from a fierce, almost hate-filled rivalry to a mountain-moving friendship. And yes, as cheesy and common a choice it is, I do enjoy Takumi x Oboro, as well. Edit: My sarcastic reply isn't intended to be mean-spirited or condescending. Just saying because I realized after typing that it could sound rude.
  3. Well, between Oboro's "scary face" and Reina's/Peri's obsession with blood though no thunder, I'd say the spirit of Noire is alive and well in Fates. Anyway, I'm not sure if I'd change anything, as I liked how all the Awakening trio were handled in this game. If I had to choose who to remove and who to replace that character, it'd come down to necessity, I feel. Odin would be removed, since he didn't really change in Fates, thus his appearance here is pretty much redundant. I think Cynthia is the one that needs it the most, though I'd also kinda like to see Nah in this game; it'd be interesting to see a Manakete from Ylisse in this game. If I were to go purely based off of characters I liked, I'd say male Miriel or Tom Brady. Now, if we were talking about replacing the gen 2's in Fates... Then, we'd have a hell of a discussion, there. Which gen 1's from Awakening would you want IS to ruin in this game?
  4. I think the same goes for me, even though the way I said it in my opinion piece about her, it probably sounded like I didn't. Reading some of the things people say about her here, it kind of makes me want to use her more to see what else she's got. I have read her supports with Oboro and Saizo, and I liked those quite a bit.
  5. Well, here's the thing. On one hand, they're fun because they're challenging. When doing a standard run of Revelation with no rules, you might be inclined to grind a ton simply because you can, so that'll mean you get a ridiculously overpowered team that has pretty much no chance of dying. With Heirs of Fates and Royal Royale, you have to rely on a team that can be easily destroyed if you're not thinking strategically. You legitimately have to overcome odds, instead of just relying on an immortal death god (or an army of them). However, on the other hand, they're pretty terrible for grinding. There's not much replay value, as the battles are almost always the same, so it isn't too fun playing the map for the 9th Strengthtaker or whatever. At some point, it just becomes an exercise in patience. So ultimately, I never play these maps twice.
  6. I second the sentiment that the Flanderized aspects of her personality in Caeldori were comparatively minor. Never thought too much on her whole "perfection" thing, and if anything, it was more portrayed as something of a flaw, as she was insulted often when she was a recruit, and she remained somewhat aloof of others among the Pegasus Knights as a veteran due to her status as a role model. And her crush on Chrom only remains when she marries Frederick, with the rest of her marriages (that I remember, anyway) being out of genuine love. It's sort of like the case with Kana/Morgan. Kana is Morgan stripped of all the interesting aspects and left with just "love you so much, Papa/Mama!" It's like the writers for this game asked the writers of the previous game to describe the characters in, like, one or two words, and then tried to recreate the characters from that tid bit of "knowledge".
  7. I'm disappointed that I didn't make a reference to Forest Gump throughout my Forrest opinion piece. Anyway... So we got Metal Gear Beruka and Cordelia 2.0 both of which are weapons to surpass Metal Gear. Beruka From what I see, she literally just behaves like a tool. She's just an instrument for killing, only taking jobs from the highest bidders. She also happened to know the killer of Oboro's parents, but that's another tale that I'll save for when that fashionista ultimately comes up. She doesn't seem to have a purpose of her own; I'd guess the money she earns, she uses only for basic necessities and for weapons, equipment, and maintenance of these things. I don't remember much about her beyond this whole lack of a personality, but she's still a bit better than the gimmick characters if only because she fulfills her intended purposes as a character. Caeldori I've seen others say this, but she's basically Cordelia without the backstory. She's just naturally talented, and never really had a build up to that other than wanting to impress her daddy please don't shoot me for using that wording. She doesn't have the crazy obsession for Chrom either since... well, Chrom doesn't exist in this world, so take that for what you will. And there aren't really any stakes for her other than helping her dad; nothing about living up to her dead sisters in arms, no honoring the Order of the Pegasus Knights... I dunno. Maybe I'm just all burnt out on all the unrealistic parental worship that, like, half the children harbor. The deeprealms can go die in a ditch, they suck so much.
  8. He has the potential to be an even harder magic hitter than Elise and, depending on parents, Ophelia. I've gotten him to get a magic stat of 40 with decent defenses (around 20), nice speed (30), and enough luck and skill to usually get 100% hit rates against enemies and 0% crit rates against him, and I'm pretty sure I've never once used a stat booster on him. Though that's the result of me grinding him a lot. However, I'm sure with the right mother, he can be right for you as a combatant. And if all else fails, he can be a killer staffbot, even capable of effectively using debuff staves and rods.
  9. Alright, awesome, more young princes. Kiragi He's the least mature of the royal children. All he wants to do is hunt and hike. Which I guess is accurate since he looks like he might be even as young as or younger than Sakura and Elise (though on that note, the dynamic between Elise and Kiragi when she's his mother is way off kilter; it's really strange seeing Elise lecturing someone about how one needs to commit less to playing and more to studying). However, I do find him a tinge more interesting than ol' Siegbert. Very playful and resourceful, but definitely to a fault. Forrest I guess he's a bit controversial because of his nature as a trap and how a lot of his personality is the reason he became one. Like I've said before, I'm a fan of well done LGBTQ characters, and while he isn't transgender nor is he "curved" in his sexuality, I do actually like that he's none of those things but is still different. He shows that people who cross-dress aren't always immature, gay/queer, or "confused" about their gender identity. He's just a good lad with a passion for fashion, which is something I guess I'm a sucker for as well. And his bonding with Leo and his mother is really well done. He's genuinely very nice, though also pretty sensitive. One of my favorite characters in this game, and has a "gimmick" that's done in a tasteful manner. Yes, just about everything here I agree with, though I haven't S-ranked him and Corn. Gave him, like, three self-healing skills so that he'll never need a vulnerary; he can just sit outside the enemy's attack zone or kill a dude and be charged right back up. It might depend if Camilla has a kid, too. So technically, Forrest could be pushed even further down the line. Though if Camilla's kid is a Hoshidan royal... I'm not sure what that'd do. Make them in line to become an emperor? The most fashionable pink hat ever. Perhaps even to die for?
  10. H i g h Q u a l i t y V i d e o G a m e M e m e s . No, but seriously, I remember coming upon this little "rip". As soon as the Fates kicked in, I died laughing, only to come back a second time as the Lord and Savior and die again. Though yes, it is really good, too. When he isn't imbuing the songs with memes, Silva makes some amazing stuff. Hell, sometimes even when he injects memes, they sound really good.
  11. Ah, so finally we break free from the world of controversies. How long will it last? Shiro So lots of people seem to dig the royal children; that is, those born from the Nohrian and Hoshidan princes. Shiro's probably one of the most popular, if not, the most popular gen 2 dude. And I totally get it. He's one of the few that isn't centered around horrible controversy, for one thing. He also has plenty of legit supports. Some people compare him to past FE lords, and I think those are apt comparisons. Brash, but has his heart in the right place. Siegbert So some people say that Hisame is a standard chum (which he is), but Siegbert is a standard elite. He's just concerned with living up to the expectations of a future king. I've not really run into particularly interesting supports with him. I guess comparisons between him and past FE lords are also apt, but only with the more... standard chums. Serious, yet socially awkward. He isn't overly hateable, but I'm not fanboying over him. The least favored of the royal children, I think.
  12. I start finally reverting to a normal state of mind and we come upon another goddamn controversy?! Man, RoyLKing, you sure know how to pick 'em... Xander I think he's fine, but I honestly want to actually hear the defense people have for him as far as story goes. To me, he just seems like a worse Camus as far as BR is concerned; I won't go into it because everyone knows the deal, and Book Bro already spoke in great length about it. Aside from story, his supports are okay, I guess. I can only think of some of his familial supports and his supports with Charlotte as supports that I actually like. But he never really grows as a character, which I guess isn't particularly necessary, but... I dunno. He clearly has flaws, but not many of them are even worked on. Asugi Well, obviously, Gaius had a thing for sweets, but it wasn't so bad. It was just a joke that came up sometimes, though his battle quotes do have a lot of puns about sweets. I don't know enough about Asugi to really have an opinion.
  13. I feel ya. But then again, the fans do make some damn good content. Also, excuse me if I seem a bit off-kilter in my replies, and know that I do enjoy reading everyone's opinions and replying to them. I've just unintentionally gained a... "fan" on YouTube. A fan who is obsessed with telling people to kill themselves and saying that you want to fuck animals. And no, I don't make videos on YouTube.
  14. Yay more, controversies! Please kill me already. No really; the Soliel controversy is probably the worst controversy as far as characters are concerned. Setsuna She's there for you entertainment, but is hardly really a character. It's like other gimmick characters, except sorta more realistic. Living in a college town, I know a lot of different potheads, and she certainly acts like she's high as balls most of the time. She's hardly paying attention, she speaks slowly, often doesn't see the negativity in what others say to her, and she always sets any food she tries to cook on fire. But that's pretty much all there is aside from the added bonus of falling into every single trap possible. No real personality, no growth... just a pothead with a bow. She's funny, at least. Potheads are fun to watch. Soleil That's how I'd describe it, but here's the thing. You see, I thought that support was the main reason people found her to be controversial (well, that and the whole "gay conversion" panic deal that got censored in the west). It's awful. When I read those supports, it felt more like watching one of those sexual harassment videos you'd be forced to watch in sex ed than it did a funny little scene; I'm probably exaggerating here, but it's something like this. As someone who appreciates LGBTQ characters in media, I absolutely hated those supports. It's a similar deal as the Nina x Dwyer supports, which are pretty terrible as well. I mean, I'm also aware of the fact that she's flirty with girls, yet is only able to S support guys. I guess some people might say she's SJW pandering nonsense, but I've yet to hear a single FE fan say that aside from obvious trolls on sites like GameFAQs. And if what the OP said about Japan and all is true, then... well, that just makes her behind-the-scenes all the more shoddy in my eyes. I hate being judgmental of other countries and their cultures, but the way some popular Japanese media seem to treat homosexuality is just fucked up. Talking about Soleil just hurts my soul. Because aside from a few awful, horrible supports... aside from how she's treated as a pseudo-bisexual character... I do really, really like her. She's confident, she's cheery... she seems like someone who'd be awesome to hang out with. And I like that in a world that is probably horribly homophobic and sexually conservative, she just doesn't give a damn. Not in the sense of "trying to dismantle the patriarchy" by actively trying to piss off meninists or MRA's; just that she literally doesn't care if maybe some people don't appreciate her flirting with girls (successfully flirting; that's the key thing, here) or changing clothes in the middle of the street. She just does what she wants and it hardly ever actively hurts someone else (except for one obvious example). She's a terribly charismatic duck, though she doesn't give me any ideas. I'll say that I'm mixed on her. Reina I'll just go on and say I agree with a lot of this. In a world filled with loli's and tweenage nightmares, there's a woeful lack of properly mature women. Albeit, she has quite a fascination with murdering enemies, but still. She and some select retainers are some of my favorite adult females in the game. Of course, I'm also just a sucker for all these darker blue-haired characters. @Berret, Well, of course the fan-made hacks make characters and their supports better. I mean, unless you get some shitpost meme hack like... uh, Gheb FE or whatever. I remember someone earlier in the thread linked to a video of a fan-made support line that was really good. I intend to hack Fates at some point on a different 3DS that will have CFW/homebrew on it. No way I'd do it with the only 3DS I currently have.
  15. I've gotten through a portion of Path of Radiance, and caught a small glimpse of Radiant Dawn, but never got to where I'd recruit Reyson. Hardly ever played FE4. And by no means did I mean to imply that Feena is utterly useless in combat; when I played through Mystery for the first time, she was among my endgame team, and she most certainly could hold her own. She's just so squishy that she could only take a single hit without healing throughout the duration of the game, so you need to be careful. Also, even though Azura's refresh utility is better than Feena's, there's much more of a need for a dancer in Mystery than in Fates if you intend to 100% it with the good ending, especially if you play on higher difficulties. And I guess I'm a privileged scumbag 'cuz I didn't really think about those who didn't buy any DLC and only got the free DLC stuff, thus only gaining one Witch's Mark. I suppose some might think Azura could use Warp the most, but at the same time, Shadowgift and the growth rates/bases for the Witch class are absolutely wasteful on Azura when they could see extensive use from characters like Elise or Ophelia. I suppose it's up to the individual to decide which unit the Witch class would be best for.
  16. Absolutely, and it's fun, too. You gotta make sure that she gets kills, but you can't have her tank because she's so weak and squishy. So you gotta form a compromise where you either play a constant (albeit extremely long and drawn out) bait game that relies heavily on a healer (who probably doesn't have enough staff/rod uses to fulfill this role all the way through this strategy) or double team every monster while ensuring Mozu isn't open to too many other monsters. I know that it comes naturally for someone who frequently plays strategy games (and especially those into grind tactics instead of LTC strats), but it's still fun to actually have to manage your defense instead of just tanking through everything. More opinions on dat A E S T H E T I C . She's the only character I remember that had freckles in this game aside from maybe some generic commoner characters, which I kinda like because not everyone has blemish-free skin and they make her look extra adorable. She also has what I like to call the "Jimmy Legs" animation which fits her initial role of being a scared as shit villager who's ill-trained and ill-equipped for fighting. I just wish she had more unique class uniforms, though. Also, I know this character hasn't come up yet, but while I'm on the topic of class design... why isn't it that Oboro keeps the blue and orange color scheme when she promotes to a spear master? Blue's my favorite color (especially the darker tones she wears), and it looks so great on her! It almost seems like he existed just to plug another popular actor into the game, but then again, I don't know who his Japanese actor is, nor would I know if that actor is particularly famous (I think I hear that he is, but I'm not sure). Otherwise, he's just there to make sure Hoshido has a defense. He could be replaced by that one generic army general who is charged with holding down the fort while the lord is away and there wouldn't be a bit of difference in the plot. Feena averages around seven measly points in defense and only about thirty HP by the time she reaches level 30 (and since it's Mystery, her Res is obviously trash). She could probably take on a single hit, but then any others after would destroy her. Azura gets a little bit more defense and HP (and can class change to slightly raise her defense growths) and gets much better Res, but given that some enemies have an attack damage rating of 50, that isn't saying too much. Still need to baby her like any other dancer; she's just also able to pick off stray foes better and tank mages. Though in regards to her unique abilities, she's leagues better than most other refresher units simply because with certain skills, she can give stat boosts with her singing while also refreshing their turn. And if you get her the Warp skill, she'll never risk falling behind anyone and not being able to refresh units immediately. Her speed will ensure that she'll almost seldom get doubled, too, so you could have her take a bit of heat. Can make decent bait if you need her to. Though if you use anything but a javelin or some other other weak non-doubling, non-critting weapon, don't expect her to leave any enemies for her allies to kill when she engages them in combat.
  17. At this point, the controversies just keep stacking in this thread. Azure So obviously I'll need to talk quite a bit about our little singing friend here since... well, since she's supposed to be one of the major players here. Here, I'll say something that is obviously gonna get repeated a million times: just about everything about her plot involvement sucks, and it's because of a terribly feeble plot device that serves only to make the player seem more useful. So she can't particularly talk about Valla... why doesn't she try other ways to convey that something more is going on? If Corrin, a person who never knew about Valla until they were brought there by Azura, can do it, why can't she? She's in the same position as lil' ol' Corn-bread; she's supposedly the half-sister of the Nohrians, and is an adoptive sister of the Hoshidans, much like how the inverse is true for Mary Sue. Why is it that she is unable to unite the two families, yet OC loves-a-lot can? I could go on and talk about this particular plot issue to death, but it's already dead anyway. It's a shame too, because she doesn't have particularly bad supports, she has a fairly nice design, and has a wonderful VA. Mozu The first character I married in the game, probably because I'm country folk. She's great. I fockin' can't find a single bad support with her. I've always got a soft spot for the weak commoner characters who turn into demi-gods of destruction; it's just so fun for me to train 'em and watch all those +1's (and sometimes even +2's) flash on the level up screens. Her interactions with Corrin are one of the few of his (I'll say "his" to refer to Corrin, here) supports that I actually enjoy. He isn't stupid or insensitive in any way, and I laugh at the idea that this supposedly weak little villager girl can lift more than this dragon dude who trained with his professional warrior siblings for a good long while. All around, I adore this darling little farmer girl. Colonel Roy Campbell (goes under the alias of "Yukimura" for the duration of this mission, codename: Birthright) Alright, so most people recognize our good pal Mister Paul Eiding. But Yukimura on his own? Well, he suffers from a severe case of CorrinSexual Deficiency Disorder (CSDD). He's also hardly story relevant, and he only joins in one path. And his supports with Corrin? Well, I only know the male Corrin ones, and in them, he mostly talks about what it was like when Sumeragi was killed and how his feelings towards Corrin developed. I guess that's nice retroactive character development, but what about development for his character as of the present? Probably the weakest of the Corrinsexual bunch. It's a shame that such an iconic actor was wasted on a relatively minor, inconspicuous character that a lot of people ended up hating in Revelation. Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks of Citan Uzuki from Xenogears when I see him on that mechanical puppet of his... I mean, Yukimura probably likes tinkering with his junk in his backyard, right?
  18. Isn't Azama another one of those controversial characters? This'll get... dramatic. Let's get riiiight into the news! Krazy Kaze Okay, so he's only "crazy" in this random nickname I gave him for whatever reason. He isn't the most interesting character, but he isn't too bad, either. If anything, he's good for others. Though I'm still at a loss as to why he's playable in CQ. It really is essentially that you said some nice things and he was so touched by them that he decided to join you. If it was to pay you back for you saving him from Garon, then Rinkah should've joined, as well. I mean, you're working with Nohr - a kingdom known for its cruel leadership - and Nohr's only leg up on Hoshido is that they have one extra guy in the army who's supremely idealistic. Plus, your army goes about killing tons of Hoshidans anyway, including half the royals and possibly Saizo. Tell me again why it is that joining Nohr is a good idea? Azama Pretty much a TL;DR on my opinion of Azama for anyone who's been reading my opinions. On a side note, I've actually had friends like that; whenever they expressed a controversial or outright inflammatory opinion that offended someone or whatever, instead of apologizing, they'd say "well, I'm just trying to start a conversation". You know who else tries to "start conversations"? Terrorists who see themselves as martyrs. Alright, so I remember that there was a thread on this board that was dedicated to talking about Azama's philosophical approach to life (if I recall, it got locked because of alleged plagiarism). The OP stated that Azama was an "absurdist" in that he feels that life is meaningless, but he should pursue its frivolities anyway. This and him sometimes being funny are the reasons some people like him. But I'm not on board with worshiping some chum just because he has a philosophy that may or may not be interesting. Lemme tell you, I know a lot of people who actively take this approach to life, so it's hardly a unique thing. A lot of them (not all of them, but many of them) have the same few traits; they're arrogant (despite their protests saying otherwise), they're nihilistic towards big problems (e.g. world hunger, terrorism, etc.) unless they're experiencing these problems themselves, and they're huge dicks to anyone who holds a different opinion from their own. Now, I might say that my own philosophy is similar to that (in more of an agnostic way rather than an absolute way), but I actually try to be nice to others, and hardly think that I'm smarter or better than any other chum just because of the way I think. I don't think it's worth ruffling some feathers just for a few petty laughs. Yes, he sometimes makes me laugh. And yes, I enjoy his daughter. But I'll never forget that he's an arrogant dickhead to most people he encounters, and the narrative treats it like he's got a unique perspective that everyone should take into consideration. If you want a unique perspective, go with characters like Niles. Azama's just a fedora tipping Reddit atheist. GUNter I'll never forget the line of joke screenshots that had Gunter pulling out a gun and shooting Hans dead. Alright, so he's Jeigan reborn as far as units go. Except not really... I don't know a thing about him in BR; don't even know if he's obtainable or not (I heard a rumor that he was?). In CQ, he comes rather late, so he can't support all that much, though he luckily only has a couple supportable partners. Unfortunately, much like the other Corrinsexuals, that's where his flaw as a character lies. Again, wasted potential... IS, why'd you invest more supports into dickhead Azama and Peri the gimmick than in characters who many actually seem to like? I'm sure people would actually use Gunter if he had more supports even if he still kept those atrocious growth rates. So, how many controversial characters are left? Is it just Rhajat and Soleil, or are there more? Is Setsuna a controversial character, or is it just that some people like her and other find her dull? Find out next time only on Drama Alert "Opinions On That FE Character"!
  19. Oh boy, it's two characters that, when paired together, have some of the worst supports in the entire game. Nina Williams So she has a thing for shipping dude together. What's weird is rather than simply fantasizing about it, she actually tries to make it happen. Like, what the fuck? I, like many others, prefer the whole "Robin hood" thing over the crazy ship-master thing. I thought the argument between Niles and Nina in her paralogue was a pretty cool showcase of a moral dilemma between two people who did similar things for different reasons. But there's simply so much of a focus on her desire to ship dudes together. And again, the fact that she has this whole thing about shipping two dudes together isn't a problem; plenty of people watch gay pornography of the opposite sex. The problem is that she can't just keep it in her goddamn head; she tries to force people to love, and that's basically the equivalent of sexual harassment. It's especially terrible when she stalks people, like Dwyer. I've known people very dear to me who've been stalked, and it's shameful IS turns it into a joke. I'm not "oh my gosh, triggered" by it, but damn if I won't be more judgmental over the writing. I just hope that her dialogue in the scramble maps is focused more on the other aspects of her personality. Characters who seemed to be mostly gags like Owain got pretty well fleshed out in the scramble maps, so I have hope. Also, she's rather defiant towards Niles, so she gets points for the "realistic treatment" in regards to her attitude towards her parents. Clothes Dwyer He's a pretty aight chum. He's what I'd have liked Jakob to be. He's laid back, but that doesn't mean he's lazy. He has a work ethic, and his tea puts Jakob's tea to shame. He's not really a combative type of fellow, either. In these ways, I kind of relate to him. And he's one of the few gen 2's to have a realistic reaction to his parents leaving him in the deeprealms; he doesn't hate his parents, but because they weren't around all the time, he's relatively apathetic towards them. He has more compassion for his caretakers, whom he tries his best to aid by healing them when they defend him against the Vallite invaders (shame on Jakob for telling him that he was useless in the fight). But it doesn't particularly mean he can't still forge a bond with his parents. IMO, he's how many of the children should have been treated; not overly loving of his parents, but still able to forge a good relationship with them. All around, I can see why he topped the charts among the gen 2 characters.
  20. That's the best kind of image to have in your head. Alright, here I go again on my own... Hisame I've hardly actually seen his supports. All I know is the pickle thing (which seems out of place) and that he's otherwise a fairly standard dude. He's got that beef with his dad thing going for him, which, as I suggested earlier, is more realistic than the children actually loving their parents to bits. Aside from that, there isn't much to say. From what I hear, even if I dove deep into his supports, there still wouldn't be much to say. Camilla I'm not particularly sure that the huge fandom for her is for any reason other tits. Now, I think she's an alright character - certainly better than a number of gimmick characters out there, and better than I expected - but she isn't the absolute best Fates has to offer. It's just natural that she'd be above a lot of the other characters since she's a royal, and thus will get more attention than them. I just wish half the royals weren't mostly stuffed into the background of the story simply because they don't have special weapons. You get more focus on the female royals when you're fighting them rather than when you're fighting with them. Not that it'd turn out better characters than Leo and Takumi, but it would be nice if the forgotten royals had more of a role than just a soldier in the army with a little bit more political power than the rest. I totally forgot about that scene with Camilla and Hinoka. Definitely one of the more fucked up examples of "anime" moments out there, for sure. And I just know that there is or will be a hack where Camilla and Hinoka can S support, and that actually really disgusts me now. Everything about Hinoka's reactions in that scene is totally wrong. Her mannerisms in Conquest are expanded upon in fan-made conversation videos and whatnot, but... well, they're fan-made content. Talking strictly about the original creation, it's just atrociously done. She should've been ready to gut Camilla or something; hell, it might've made the story a lot more interesting if she actually did do that. And Camilla hitting on Hinoka only does more to convince me that she's a polyamorous psychopath (emphasis on the "psychopath" part), and thus would probably not make for the best romantic partner. This all, in turn, convinces me that a lot of Fates fans are sexually confused, though I suppose that'd make sense since the game's target audience is teenagers. Izana He died so that pineapple head and his band of fashionistas could join our ranks. RIP in piss, sweet angle. Alright, so that joke is about all I have to say that isn't just a rehash of the whole "Corrinsexual" thing. I loved how after you save him from Zola, he's pretty much exactly like Zola's imitation of him. I mean, totally inappropriate and unrealistic, but hey, I guess that's the game they're playing, here. I guess being a peace-loving, neutral nation would lead to some seemingly unusual attitudes.
  21. Now I want "Benny's Root Beer". Oh god, those'll make trainwrecks look like a mere trip. Imagine if we got them both on the same day.
  22. Yeah, I do think it's just taking longer. Unlike the previous map packs, there's a lot of dialogue to translate since they're the scramble maps. For Japan, the scramble pack took several months to come out, and I'm sure the idea to make scramble maps didn't just come across their heads all of a sudden mid-way into February.
  23. Let's get right into it, then. I'm really feeling it. It's too bad. I've always been a fan of characters who have an intimate relationship with violence and torture, but that simply didn't work out for Peri. But this discussion has already been done to death. Benny I totally dig this dude. Sure, he's merely a gentle giant, a trope of which has definitely been done a lot, but I don't really get tired of it. He's not annoying or dumb or a big jerk; he just wants to hang with some forest critters, which is fine by mii. Arthur (AKA Commander USA) It's bootleg Captain America, everyone. He's kinda entertaining. Again, there isn't much in the way of emotional moments with this guy like with any gimmick character, but I like that he tries his best to simply ignore his own bad luck and be a hero for everyone. Also, I want to hear his lectures about the "subtle yet distinct" difference between justice and vengeance. I feel he'd make a great comic book character. He'd also have a better "life lessons" segment than Sonic did in "Sonic Sez". Goddammit, I want to hear Arthur lecture me about drugs, sexual consent, learning from sloths, and jumping into clothes dryers. Iago Guh, another lame villain. He had all the potential to be interesting, from the scheming to his name. But a Shakespearean villain, he is not. He's just a jerk (seemingly for no reason?) who has a plan A through double-Z on how to get rid of Corrin. Is this guy supposed to be a villain reminiscent of great classical European literature, or is he supposed to be Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants? Perhaps he has a million plans to steal the Rice Patty secret formula from Hoshido, as well. Regardless, it seems that for a lot of people, some kind of cheesy villain from a childhood cartoon comes to mind. Though he isn't ever as entertaining as any of those villains. Again, the potential is there, but the execution is terrible. No background, no interesting plots... not even a half-baked plan to usurp King Garon. He's just a not-so-scary boogeyman.
  24. To be fair, Hans literally has no development aside from "DUR, I'M GONNA KILL EVERYTHIN' AND IMPRESS GARON SO THAT I CAN BE A DUKE". With Peri, there's a bit more development that suggests a softer side to her. Sure, some of us think the writing is terrible, but it's more than one could say about Hans the Generic Bad Dude with an AttitudeTM. I'll respond to this with an even better question: why the fuck did all the parents shove their children in what are essentially time capsules instead of just letting them live in the Astral Realm (or some other safe place that didn't have accelerated time)? They shouldn't even be a single year old let alone eight or sixteen like I suspect some of them are. And how is it that a good portion of these kids still love their parents to death in spite of them only being there for only a few days out of the kids' entire lives up to the point you get them? Honestly, I think the only realistic reactions come from the kids who are either indifferent or full of spite for their parents. It's a damn shame, too, because I actually really like some of the gen 2 characters.
  25. Yay, controversial character! Peri Who gave this lady-child a lance? She's another gimmick character, but she's worse than Effie. Whereas Effie was just kinda dull, Peri gets infuriating. She's that typical "I'm a girlie that likes killing" type of character, which I already am not that much of a fan of. But the fact that she interacts with numerous other characters just drags down the overall support writing quality. It exemplifies a major problem with having so many characters support one another, which is that you'll get supports which try to juryrig characters' personalities so that they have some chemistry with other characters. Peri works for so very few characters, so you see this problem no more often than in her supports. She's just such an unnatural type of person that she only really works in a comical world, and even then... Midori I think she's more adorable than Kana. That being said, why is it that these kids are being roped into this war? I don't care that the kids asked to join their parents; the parents need to freaking learn to say "no" to their kids. Hell, they need to learn how to better hide their kids; not only do the deeprealms accelerate their aging (which means the parents skip on most of their kids' childhoods), but they are put in great peril anyway when Vallite soldiers attack the deeprealms. Anyway, you came to hear an opinion on Midori, not on the irresponsible attitudes the parents all carry. Like I said, I think she's more endearing than Kana. In fact, I think she's more like Morgan than Kana is. Mighty Midori has more than just that mere adoration for her parents; she has a real knack for making useful herbal remedies. So much so that you'd think she was some kind of doctor. It isn't quite the same as Morgan, who tried their best to follow in Robin's footsteps, but Midori's just trying her very best to impress her dad in a different way.
