  1. That's something that I believe we all should keep in mind when reading someone's opinions or even thinking about our own opinions. At the very least, it's how I am with Fates. I mean, I don't really like Camilla, but I can't say I hate her. I am also that rare breed of person who likes Rhajat, but I bitch about her supports with Corrin constantly. I like Soleil, but bitch about her controversial supports. So on and so fourth. I never really get all up in a bunch about fictional stuff, even when I act like it. Same goes for others' opinions. That being said, I do agree with your stance on the sex appeal characters. I wish they were more like Tethys. It feels like the whole theme of these characters being evil or dark characters is due to the stigma of sexualization being sinful or an "underhanded" trick; like these women are wrong for being sexually appealing or using their sex appeal. And thus are punished with poor characterization and pervy cameras being shoved up in their crevices. You referring to that quote at the top of the page? I already like Forrest, but that quote is truly an amazing piece. "Being both our unique selves and quite ordinary"... When people wonder why I like Forrest more than, say, Libra, I'll just point them to that quote. And to my SF profile pic and member badge while telling them to "do the math".
  2. Honestly, this is kind of how I feel. I mean, I much prefer the design of characters like Oboro, Hinoka, Beruka, and Selena to that of Camilla's; dare I say I even find them sexier. I don't hate Camilla, but I don't like her either and I personally don't find her design attractive or appealing. And to have that shit shoved in my face... It's just disgusting. It's obvious her design was solely made to make boys drool. Also, I think there are some femme fatales/yanderes that are done better than Camilla. Look better, too. I didn't particularly mean for this to devolve into bashing Camilla, but I just can't express how unappealing she is to me. Well, he's never worn that much armor before. Not even PoR Ike has ever worn that much armor, and neither did Ike as a Vanguard. It's so unfitting because the closest thing in Awakening to his original class that's also promoted is the Hero class, but that's a fairly heavily armored class in that game. As for why he's scrawny... I have absolutely no idea; you'll have to ask whichever artist drew him.
  3. General, unorganized thougths on poll: Replies to others: About Etika and Youtubers in general:
  4. I wear headphones, so... I mean, I guess I can still wear earplugs. Also, eeeeuuuuugggghhhh! Flora's voice sounds a lot more like how I'd imagine teenage and young adult women sound. Obviously, they're trying to push Felicia to be an appealing character since she's something of a mascot for Fates, so they're making her sound all "kawaii". I'll never understand the appeal. I'll comment on the recent poll update in the other thread.
  5. Perhaps what it's really trying to say is that there are no such things as villains. That morality is truly relative. Reading way too much into a minor error in word choice/10 Seriously, though, I'd say it's only because you're able to use them in FE Heroes. Technically, they're heroes because they're helping you fight the big bad in Heroes... even if they're more like einherjars than anything.
  6. I've only voted for three days... but here's who I picked. Catria Oboro My boy, Hector Incidentally, all my picks thus far have been blue-haired characters who, at least starting off, aren't the main character. I'll pour some more into Hector maybe, since he's got a decent chance. Maybe give one to Mozu, one or two to Oboro, and maybe someone else... I don't exactly have very many votes left, so I'm gonna think carefully about what I want to do. Idunn was the true hero of Binding Blade, and Roy was actually the villain. Everyone who plays FE knows this. Even those who've played Fates know this. This also means that Hector and Eliwood were villains, too.
  7. I'm just glad that cow-mill isn't at the top. I heard rumors that she was. I mean, I don't exactly hate her, but I definitely don't think that shameless fanservice characters deserve the top spot over, say, Hector or Ike. That being said, I do think there are some good characters from Fates, but only, like, two of them are main characters. And one of them has devolved into memes thanks to the internet and Conquest. I'm glad for the three up there. Even if the ladies aren't the most interesting of characters, I certainly like them enough and think they deserve the spots. I'd like to see some representation from Marth's games among the top 10 or whatever, even if it's just Marth and/or Caeda. I'm among those people that thought that Hector was preferred, though I guess Super Smash Bros and her being the first person you see in the first FE released in America also has something to do with Lyn's popularity. I mean, I know she's a young lady, but that voice sounds more like a little girl to me. Honestly, though, those cutesy girl voices always sounded like artificial ten year olds to me. They maybe should've lent that voice talent to Lilina instead. Though I also always thought her voice in Smash Bros was too low. She sounds like a grown woman, a voice that probably would better fit a character like Titania. It just really feels off from her attitude and appearance (and supposed age, whether it's 15 or 18) in Blazing Blade. Just try to imagine that voice reading every line of Lyn's dialogue... I think her voice is best done in the English version of this game. Maybe still a little low and calm from what I'd always imagined, but still the best I've heard from official sources. I'd say I'm more in this camp. I mean, the only thing even remotely more sexualized is that you can see a Lyn with tattered clothes that make it look like she isn't wearing a bra. I honestly figured that either she wears a particular kind of bra that only encompasses the lower half of her breast or that her undergarments got torn a bit as well (since, you know, the slashes should at least be enough to cut into skin, and only sorcery and tricks would prevent the garments from also being cut in this case). I never really was all that uppity about Lyn's design because, as you said, she's part of a nomad tribe, and some tribal uniforms show a lot more skin than that. Plus, the world isn't gonna end because Lyn doesn't wear a bra.
  8. I mean, I can understand the concern of how the opinions might negatively impact the direction of the series or mislead the writers into thinking that everyone hates their works. And I too get tired of people soap-boxing their ill-conceived opinions. Or maybe it's more about the fact that people pay less attention to gameplay and more to just how bad the C-B supports between this pair of characters are; I get that, too. But I still disagree with the sentiment that an entire gameplay and story element should be removed because some people criticize characters based on incomplete evidence they've accrued from some supports. I think it's a very dramatic response to a problem that people are blowing up way too much. And I think that by removing it, you're removing a key story and gameplay element that lends itself very well to FE's whole "camaraderie, even with unwitting enemies" narrative. Even if you replaced it with base conversations or character side stories, it just won't have the same effect unless you integrate it with the gameplay. What I'm getting at is that you get these characters, you have them fight alongside one another, and they form bonds. In some cases, they literally save each other's lives. You directly affect that, and thus you have an actual impact on how they bond. In many cases, they aren't forming bonds on their own in the story; you are choosing who becomes friends with who. In other circumstances, you're strengthening their bonds with pre-existing friends or gaining the trust of former enemies. And in any case as a result, they're more willing and able to help their friends fight, or at least inspire their friends to fight harder. It is the direct results of your indirect bonds to these characters. This all being said, I'd like to iterate that I wouldn't be upset if they took out supports in Shadows of Valentia. I know Gaiden didn't originally have supports, so it's not necessarily like anything is lost if this game in particular doesn't have supports. Though for reasons stated, I personally think it can only help. But I won't go in expecting it, either.
  9. I'm no hipster... But I did play it before the announcement. A while ago, in fact. It's decently fun, but is very dated. There are mechanics that are definitely ahead of its time, but some things feel... I guess bootstrappy. It seems that they were experimenting with some things, since it was literally only the second game of its kind. For example, the summoning felt very gimmicky and off-balance, the general magic mechanic was... "interesting", and promotions were odd. That's among other things that make this a unique entry in the series. I figure that some gimmicks might be too much for some. Hopefully Shadows of Valentia will make Gaiden a funner experience for newcomers. Funny that you were sort of technically right in a number of ways about Marth being in it. That's somewhat similar to how I started FE. I'm sort of a newb (only been playing for two years, though it feels like it's been longer), but I've played older entries after playing through Awakening. Besides Fates and Awakening though, I've only ever beaten Shadow Dragon DS and New Mystery of the Emblem.
  10. -Yeah, the Whitewing sisters are all in Gaiden. Gaiden takes place in the same world as Shadow Dragon, but overseas to the west on the continent Valentia. Though I don't remember why they were there aside from obvious fan service. -Monsters were in Gaiden, and they were kind of like a mix between Awakening's Risen (specifically the Revenants and Entombed) and Sacred Stones's monsters. They're actually very prominent throughout the game, and your units and enemy units could even summon monsters. I think their appearance had something to do with the deterioration of the two kingdoms. Well, I'm partial to chiptunes and NES tracks. I got a collection of Gaiden and original SD tracks. That being said, I also like what they did with Alm's battle map theme, and I can't wait to hear even more of their remastered tracks. Everyone's clamoring for Celica's battle map theme, but I even just want stuff like the Encounter theme or Celica's setting off theme. Though the final boss theme gives me a headache; really hope they do better on that one. Anyway, my hopes and fears for this game stem from what I like and don't like about both current FE and Gaiden. Would like to see the Whitewings here, would like to see an expanded Gaiden, would like to see updated Valentia, would love to have supports, but I don't care to receive the gimmicks of Awakening/Fates nor some of the awful mechanics of Gaiden. Above all, I'd like for them to truly honor Gaiden in this one. Give it improvements, sure, but don't royally fuck up the story or anything. Like, I don't want Est suddenly going off and getting married to goddamn Sevr or whatever. And if we have an avatar (which seems doubtful), I don't want that avatar to make Alm and Celica feel second-rate to the Gary Stu.
  11. It looks like gameplay will be similar, but with how it looks, I doubt it'll be nearly as dull as Shadow Dragon. New Mystery is honestly an okay game because it actually adds in support conversations - a feature lacking in SD and the original Mystery - among other things. Shadow Dragon was literally just the same game, but with extra chapters you had to let a lot of your units die in order to get (but it's okay, 'cuz you'll get a myrmidon lady who can't pronounce the letter "v", which is... nice?) and a prologue that showed what happened before Marth took refuge in Talys. Oh, and it has some online stuff and difficulty settings. But no supports or anything to make it really stand out aside from obligatory, useless touch controls. The biggest thing that strikes me about Shadows of Valentia is that opening, where you see a young Alm and Celica talking about the two gods. Neither SD nor New Mystery had anything like that, so it gives me some hope that we'll at least get a more involved story. I'm also assuming we'll get support convos. Vincent's analysis informs me that there's also a "food" option during a battle as well as a time system of some kind. Regardless, we only have a few glimpses of gameplay. In fact, we literally only have half the visual information, as the entirety of the gameplay footage was of the top screen only. And if you might recall in both Awakening and Fates, the skills are only ever displayed in the bottom screen. The point is that we hardly have much info on this game. The big take aways for me are that Gaiden is finally receiving attention after twenty-five years and that Echoes will likely be a line of remakes of older FE's.
  12. The way I would want FE Echoes (1?): No avatar. Just Gaiden redone. We only have Alm and Celica as the protagonists, but the writing is improved all around. Remastered music, remastered Valentia, reworked gameplay, supports (though certain things shouldn't be involved in that, and if they are... no S-supports for Est, please)... that's all I want. If we do get an Avatar, don't make them like Kris. That's a major downside of New Mystery; Kris making it seem like Marth is only the second most important part of the army. It messes up the dynamic of the original story. Let the avatar be a member of the army, let them have a part in the story, but don't make them overshadow Alm and Celica. I know it's a rewrite, but these are classic FE stories that have been around for years. They may not be the best stories, but they do have clear, definitive heroes. That being said, since folks are talking about how Echoes might be a series of remakes... I'm thinking we might finally get to see Elibe's most treasured tactician. For better or worse...
  13. Oh my god... I just... I can't believe we're getting this game. I loved the tracks in FE Gaiden, and it's amazing that we'll be getting remastered versions of them. Especially if all of them are as well done as that.
  14. 'Cuz Warriors games have, like, hundreds of mobs fighting you and your hundreds of generic allies at all times. It's a surprise that older models of 3DS can handle Warriors games at all (even if barely, from what I hear). On topic, I'm definitely interested in Gaiden's remake. I played the original a bit, but never completed it. Definitely the odd one out in the series, though since the most recent games are taking cues from it (namely indestructible weapons and the ability to travel around a map), it seems fitting they'd bring it back. I'll definitely pick it up as soon as I can. FE Warriors... I mean, I was half expecting that if we got more than just news on a couple titles, we wouldn't get much from this. We'll see more in the future, though I do believe our old heroes from Valentia suddenly became much more likely. I'm not really a mobile player; I even skipped out on some that would probably really be appealing to me, like Fallout Shelter. FE Heroes might be the first mobile game I'll play. Who knows? I came into the Direct not expecting more than coverage of the games we already got coming, and so I was completely surprised when I learned that we'd be getting yet another main entry into the series. I'll be following news of this new game, for sure. A little disappointed by lack of news on Fates DLC, but to be honest, it's been almost a year since the game came out in the U.S., and a year and a half since it first released in Japan. The only games I know where they'd continue releasing DLC after that point would be MMOs. Maybe some outliers, but generally speaking, they don't wait several months between DLC releases. So basically, I wasn't putting all my chips into getting DLC... even if I'm still a little salty about it, but that saltiness isn't directed at this... uh, Direct.
  15. Yeah, I'm with you. I believe that main characters take precedence over popular ones. At least I think that if we get Soren or Mia, we'll also get Elincia. That also means I think she'd get in over Ogma or Oboro if Tellius is to be represented in more than just Ike.
  16. I did the same for major characters from Elibe and Magvel, and for the same reason; hell, I pegged Lilina, Eirika, and Ephraim as "less likely" too, and Micaiah is, by my standards, less likely than Elincia. It's definitely not that I don't want them in; in an ideal world, every one of these characters and more would be in and each of them would be amazingly represented. It's just that based on current evidence, the best we'll get is token representation of the other games in the form of a single, recognizable character, and out of Tellius, that character's gonna be the guy who not only has a Smash trophy and Awakening DLC, but also a spot in the official Super Smash Bros Roster, an amiibo of his own, and a spot in the Fates amiibo roster. If the Direct informs us that they'll have more representation of the other games, I'll peg her as more likely. I'm just trying to be as pessimistic about the roster as possible. I mean, I pegged my favorite character from Fates as "less likely". And I hardly think that the likes of Catria, Luke, Eine, or Soren have much of a chance, and those are some of my favorite characters in the series. Yeah, I'll probably do that too, and change my hideous MS-paint-like color-coding around. Depending on what they say, that might mean entire sections get demolished... though at the same time, it'll bump up the chances of some characters. I can't wait to see just how much more disappointing my prediction list will get!
  17. Only ever played Hyrule Warriors and seen LP's of DW7, but that's a decent indicator of what more modern Warriors games are like, I feel. The combat itself is fairly simple, but there are lots of objective oriented missions where you have to capture and hold keeps or defeat specific enemies so that more don't come and swamp your base and keeps. And there are missions that place special conditions on you, too. Basically, if you just go around mindlessly killing things, you won't get very far in the more difficult levels. Sure, it isn't directly a strategy game. But there are plenty of non-strategy games out there that require a good amount of strategizing.
  18. I tried my best to not pick too many protagonists or antagonists. Also avoided ones that were too obvious or appear in a bunch of FE's, like Tiki or Anna. Though for the ones I'm less familiar with, I did just that. Thracia 776 is the only one that received no answer.
  19. I don't know; I don't see a person there. In fact, I can't see anything there. Why would someone post a picture of nothing? I'll somewhat reiterate my list from the other thread. Though this time, I'm not doing joke characters, and I'll be highlighting based on how likely I think they are of getting in over others. Also, I'm not listing those purely off of desire. And I'll probably forget some characters who are just as likely as some of these.
  20. *Insert meme joke involving vaporwave* Matthis or Roger the Stud, both from the Akaneia games Also, I'd be surprised if we didn't get Akaneia's true public enemy #1. Gharnef's a fairly iconic FE Akaneia villain, I'd say. More people seem to think of him than of Hardin or Medeus. That's the problem I had with Hyrule Warriors. I got really into it when I got it, dropped it for a while, picked it back up, then dropped it again. It's like the Sims; the mood will just strike me, I'll play the crap out of it, then I won't pick it again for anywhere between a few months to a couple of years. That being said, since FE is of a drastically different genre (while Zelda has some action at least), it could potentially hold my attention a bit more. Though at the same time, I'm hardly familiar with Warriors games; my only experience with them is in my time playing HW. In any case, I'll still get it if it's any good.
  21. Apparently anywhere from a dozen to 120-some if this thread is any indication. We'll just have to wait and see with the news we'll get next week and/or any news that'll follow. I have a feeling we'll get a good idea before it releases, even if it's just through leaks. In any case, I'm not gonna get my hopes up for more than just the main characters of SD/MotE, Awakening, and Fates along with their respective villains and a few minor characters because that'd be setting myself up for disappointment in the event that it is exactly that. I mean, I would love more, whether that'd be more from the four games I mentioned or from the series as a whole, but all I can be certain of is that Chrom will be in it and the last four games will get some form of representation. However, a lad can dream and make inferences. So here's my list of ideal characters, many of whom will very likely not get in this game: [spoiler=Get ready for a long list]All protagonists and primary antagonists (for example, we get Walhart and Validar, but not Excellus) from all the games Anna An Avatar of some kind; maybe in the form of pre-existing avatars At least one Jeigan/Oifey character Akaneia Series Caeda Tiki (young or old, doesn't matter to me) Ogma Minerva Pegasus Sisters Christmas Cavaliers Camus (or that one alter-ego) Matthis (for trolls sake) One of the MotE recruits (gotta go for my boy Luke, though Eine could be in too) Probably Elise Hardin as either a good or bad guy (or both) Merric the Mage of Alliteration Navarre Elibe Series Lilina Serra (promoted or given a support role if possible) Zephiel (kind of a given, since he's a primary antagonist, but wanted to solidify this) Ninian/Nils/both Canas Legault Nino Jaffar Wolt Magvel Seth One of the three trainees Mr. Hat Lute or Saleh Innes L'Arachel (and gang, probably) Tana Tellius Series Soren Mia Titania Volke or Sothe Elincia One or more of the Laguz The Four Riders Nephenee Awakening Lucina (a given, I feel) Tharja (as much as I don't actually like her, she brings a bit of diversity) or Henry (much more preferred, but less popular overall ) "Frederick, please..." Virion Sumia or Cordelia (probably the latter) Panne Maribelle Owain, Inigo, and/or Severa (or their Fates counterparts) Laurent L.A. Noire Cynthia Female villager (same reason as Matthis) At least one Spotpass character Fates All royals and some of their children Oboro Arthur One of the Christmas Ninjas (prefer Saizo a bit more) One or more of Corrin's retainers (that includes Flora) Niles or Shura Benny and/or Charlotte Ophelia and/or Nina One or more of Garon's ragtag team of villainous generals (or Zola) Even without major characters, it's more than 60. If they were to make a series out of FE Warriors (which I definitely would be down for if they make the first game any good), they could probably reach this eventually. Also, sorry for no Jugdral representation (aside from acknowledging the Oifey archetype); I just haven't played much of 4 or 5. Whatever the case may be, I am more inclined to believe they'll start small (20+, I estimate) and then expand through DLC and possibly later entries. They'll probably either do all major and some minor characters from the last four games, or they'll do all major and no minor characters from throughout the series. Likely the former. What I'd personally like is if they stick to a rule (like "do a bunch from neo-FE only" or "all majors from all games") and then do themed DLC (like a "Cavaliers Pack" or "Elibe Pack"). It'd be a fun way of building up the cast, and there could be polls to allow fans to choose what they want next. I do too, but I always try to prepare my mind for the worst case scenario. That being said, I'm not gonna lower my standards so much that I'll accept a skeleton cast. From what I've seen and heard, Koei Techmo is easily capable of managing 20 characters at base game; unless they do something impressive with a more limited cast, I won't accept much less than that.
  22. I highly doubt we won't at least get Ike; he's too iconic at this point. But I wouldn't mind also getting more from Tellius and the other games they seem to forget about. Only if they're popular characters. I don't think we'd see Ricken or Yukimura, for example. But it could include characters like Tharja, Oboro, the younger Fates bros, or any of the three popular Awakening kids. That is, if they were comfortable with having 30+ total reps without FE's 4-10, or 50-100 total reps with 4-10. I second the idea of adding more villains. From what I recall, Hyrule Warriors had several villains, and we definitely have a variety of villains to bring in from the series. They better not put precedence on Validar before Walhart while also including Gharnef. Now I want to see Chrom's head superimposed over Walhart's body. I have to wonder what characters we'll get from SD/MotE. Caeda and Tiki are very likely, but I imagine we'd get Minerva, Merric the Mage of Alliteration, and possibly Ogma or Navarre, too.
  23. Great Knight Charlotte (A+ support Peri/S-support Xander/Silas/Benny)
  24. Out of curiosity, which path did you get? Or did you get all of them? Gameplay-wise, it's more balanced and probably the most fun of the FE games in that regard. Conquest is challenging, and Birthright is more balanced than Awakening. Revelation is mostly annoying gimmicky garbage made to waste your time and nothing else; don't even bother if you don't have time to kill. Story-wise, 2/3rds of it is garbage marred by bad plot devices and fake moral ambiguity. The other 1/3rd is Birthright, and it's only decent because it's essentially another standard FE plot, albeit with an Eastern flair and a few extra bells and whistles. Character-wise, some are among the best characters FE has ever seen, while others are tropey garbage. Some characters who might seem vain at first, like Oboro or Charlotte, are surprisingly well thought out and empathetic, and experience more character growth than some of the main characters. And even the worst characters have good supports. Overall, I think it's worth a shot. A lot of the most weebish elements that you're afraid of were taken out in the localization; all we have left is blowing on a spouse's face to cool them off after a warm bath and rubbing a spouse's face until they wake (which is odd, but considering the ways you could be woken up, it's the least harmful). As someone who is also irked by weeb elements, I understand your skepticism, but there is more to this game than anime trite. Some like to be adventurous and go into games totally blind, but others feel more confident in knowing that the time they spend won't be time they wasted. And FE tends to be slow-paced compared to other games, so you might not know how good it is until you've spent several hours playing it. I try to imagine if I only had a few hours to play each week. I would certainly be much more careful about what I picked up to play if that were the case. Especially if some of my options are RPGs of any kind.
  25. I lost it at "too busy fighting batman". Though "better with garlic butter" and "takes being homeless to a new level" are fierce contenders as well. I imagine that's how Peri saw Xander's retinue recruitment offer.
