  1. Except without that crap combat (which is the main reason I quit the game, along with the required amount of tedious bullshit you had to do Bioware was heavily criticized for doing that with Inquisition so I think they won't require that this time)... its way more open... how is this like Inquisition from a gameplay perspective because I also hate that game and it looks nothing like it to me?
  2. Really the people who wrote ME 3 ending aren't ( A lot of Bioware left the company after ME 3) on this game anymore so that really should have no effects on this game... watch the game awards trailer for it showed a bit with the combat and exploration. They're bringing back the Maiko and they're making it more open and explorative then previous Mass Effect games, what little they showed of the new combat looks really fun to me and I like the idea of less linear Mass Effect. Obviously I have a lot of skepticism towards the game because EA but it looks fun so far. As far as watching it goes I'm in it for the gameplay in all honesty, the story is actually a lot less interesting to me at the moment, I hope it's good though...Here's the trailer in question.
  3. I pretty much agree with the above the AAA industry has been very safe as of recently really is a big reason why hope the Switch is successful because it could help hit the industry over the head by allowing for various price points thanks to its mobile nature (the ever ballooning budgets for making games this part of the reason for their staleness). There still some companies out there doing great things but for the most part the industry is struggling we can only hope they improve, for now if you really want innovation you have a look at the indy circuit. @Harvey No problem I can see it could be misinterpreted... now onto your other comment. Metroid Prime is not a spin off it is aevolution of 2-D Metroid much like 3-D Zelda and Mario, it was not a case of shoving IP late onto an unrelated project like Nintendo is a bad habit of doing and was always meant to be a Metroid game and was designed as a Metroid game first and foremost. As much as I'd like to consider the 3D versions of Nintendo properties entirely different things due to my preference for them (I without exception think the 3-D versions of Metroid, Zelda, and Mario are better and I like and regularly buy 2-D games, though it should be noted that I think both should exist) they are not spinoffs they are part of the main franchise. Kid Icarus uprising is forgivable because it's based off a long dead franchise and turned out really well, but still could've fared well as its own unique IP just Sakurai does what he wants and he got what he wanted there. As much as I love Uprising I feel bad for fans of the originals because now there is zero chance of a 2-D revival for the franchise, in fact since Sakurai doesn't want to make a follow-up Kid Icarus was just revived just to die again. For intents and purposes it is a new franchise it could've been a new IP and really it should've been as there would've been no limitations on what he could've done. That and I would love another new property to be added to the charming Nintendo staple and Uprising could've been that.
  4. Mass Effect: Andromeda dates just got announced and it's coming out March 21, 2017 so add that (assuming it doesn't get delayed) to my list though this one has a bit of skepticism because EA, but what has been revealed of the game so far seems to appeal to me.
  5. Here is the exact words I said and exact words I agreed to "Nintendo is not much more innovative then Sony as far as games are concerned" none of those words said Sony is more innovative than Nintendo or Nintendo is more then Sony. I said neither are far ahead of each other and both could do with more innovation. Also I never said that Nintendo doesn't take risks though they do play pretty safe with the majority of games as does Sony. I do believe they should produce more new IP's as when they do they're usually quite good. Shoving IP's onto existing ideas is not more risky is a clear business move to sell more copies. I hate this practice by Nintendo, it's fine the case of sports, casual, and racing franchises but otherwise it should go die, because we end up with games that don't belong in their IP like Star Fox Aventures and Federation Force which would have been better as new IP's imo.
  6. I said they're equally innovative I like both companies believe it or not, it is possible. I believe both are doing very good work on the exclusive front for bringing in innovation to the table. Also I have already have explained why nothing is truly 100% new. And by the way Sony's constant new IP's are actually kind a risky as you can see from last generation Sony's new IP sold so much worse than Microsoft did with Gears, Halo, and Forza which blew them out of the water. Sony is doing a lot better this generation but last gen they had some problems with a lot of their franchises since as they were throwing crap at the wall all the time. Bulls traded new IP and continue to support old IP's have their merits and I support doing both. With stories we just have to see what Retros working on to see if Metroids is coming back, or mabye an entirely new IP. Monolith Soft is supposed to be working on something new mabye Xenoblade X2 or maybe a new IP, their games don't sell gang busters but they do sell well enough and they are slowly gaining a greater following. New 3D Zelda is coming out so we got that area covered... though it really is annoying that a new 3D Zelda didn't come out for an entire freaking generation. Hopefully with the Switch we get a couple new IP, and Intelligent Systems fires, or whips into shape their current writing staff is there definitely working on the next Fire Emblem.
  7. That's because many of Nintendo's franchises don't lend themselves to story the few that do do actually have pretty good stories namely Xenoblade, Zelda, Metroid and the Mother/Earthbound games (Fire Emblem also tries) not all the stories in all these games are equal but many of these franchises have turned out excellent stories like Majora's Mask, Mother 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, or Metroids excellent environmental storytelling. If this is a comment to the fact that it seems Nintendo doesn't want to anymore, I wouldn't agree with that entirely they could still have stories, they just wanted it out of all Mario related franchises (which is sad considering Super Paper Mario's excellent story but whatever), it's true that this generation hasn't seen a really strong story from a Nintendo game but it's not for lack of trying Fates and Xenoblade X put actual effort into trying to make their stories they just failed. Xenoblade X's story actually isn't that bad at all it's just not as good as the first one and it serves as a fine foundation for a sequel, it also fit well if it's more open world nature. if you're taking about the more cinematic style of storytelling employed in naughty dogs works then yes you will never see that unless retro is put to work on something intriguing or Nintendo takes a new studio under its wings, Nintendo's current crop of studios is more familiar with the other style of storytelling in video games more akin to Last Guardian or that of RPG's. Oh and just as a sidenote Gravity Rush has a fairly simple story it's hardly its focus.... And try not to be too cynical on the whole innovative thing nothing is truly 100% original everything has already been done there is nothing new under the sun, they are only seven types of stories in existence, and everything is a variation on something that already exists. For example Gravity Rush is very much a Action Platformer but it's gimmick is that it gives you complete control of gravity it's a twist on the concept. Kid Icarus: Uprising is a fusion of a third person shooter and action game, thats second portion is basically Sin and Punishment it really has not many original ideas it just fuses them together to create something new.
  8. yeah it's a great innovative game but so is Gravity Rush, Last Guardian, and Tearaway among others. Nintendo really isn't that much more innovative than Sony.
  9. I was talking about consoles only, they seem to have a very strong attachment to adding gimmicks to the console where whether it be the 3-D in the 3DS or the forementioned Wii and Wii U. As far as games yeah I would agree they're not much more innovative than Sony. I do think Sony & Nintendo are generally more innovative than Microsoft of the studios Microsoft owns I would say Remedy is the the only one that's truly innovative, I guess the hollow shell of Rare is still trying to figure what the heck they are supposed to be now days. And yeah Nintendo is completely incompetent when it comes to anything to do with the Internet, and has disgustingly draconic views on copyright, hopefully the Switch will see some small improvements with these but I don't my hopes up for that one... These absolutely big problems that the company I hope has remedied at some point.
  10. that's exactly why they're pessimistic Nintendo won't fit into peoples clean little predictable boxes. Nintendo doesn't follow industry trends it tries to create them sometimes it fail, sometimes it succeeds. The people who are pessimistic about Nintendo want them to make something safe and predictable they just want to more powerful PlayStation from them that's all. That and there remains a group on the Internet who think it's cool to hate Nintendo because they make family friendly products for the most part it because makes them look all "cool and mature" when it actually make it obvious they are children. Not to say that any of the pessimism is fair, but I think it's hilarious, remember boys and girls Nintendo has been DOOMED since the N64 yet they have remained around despite the internets insistence that they're definitely becoming third-party.
  11. My absolute most anticipated is Zelda BOTW absolutely no question... Also looking forward too Ni No Kuni 2 Gravity Rush 2 Horizon Zero Dawn New 3D Mario Whatever the heck Retro is working on ( they are in incapable of making bad games so I don't care what it is I'll buy it) Yooka Laylee For Honor
  12. Just basically what is your favorite game you played this year, and what was your favorite game you played this year that actually came out this year, assuming they are not one and the same. The best game I played this year was probably the Witcher 3: The story, characters, exploration, the engaging side quests this game is so good, and the strangest thing is it's biggest problems is perhaps a bit too long and has too much worthwhile content (if that can be a thing), so it can feel a little overbearing. Like it's crazy how much work goes into even the tiniest side quests in this game like even those random little chest you find in the overworld have sometimes entire story is attached to them it's insane. This game also really takes in your choices as well like it changes a ton depend you want on what you do and the really commendable how much does it. It's combat is not the greatest but if it's entertaining enough and definitely doesn't drag down the game too much, everything else is just so incredible and the combat is a good vehicle to the management areas of the game. As for my game of the year that actually came out this year, if I'm cheating I would give it to Dishonored 2 as I have not finished it ( i'm like halfway though the fourth mission right now) but I was having so much fun with it over the past couple days, the gameplay is just thoroughly engaging as is the world much like the highly underrated first game. But it if I don't cheat and have a game that I have at least finished I would give it to... in all honesty it's a bit of a tossup between Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, and FE Fates: Conquest, I want to give it to Last Guardian but I don't feel right giving it to it in its current state, so I'll give it to Uncharted 4, Conquest was fun but the story, characters and world where problems, Uncharted 4 was thoroughly great and even if it's not the strongest in the gameplay front, it is a marked improvement from the previous games in the series and tied a very great and neat bow over the whole series.
  13. OK here's the top 5 list 1. Fire Emblem Fates (Conquest but I have all three versions): 288:17... 3 hours shorter for some reason 2. Dragon Quest 7: 66:26... 11 hours shorter for some reason 3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf: 16:46 The real number 4: is A Link to the Past for some reason it halved to my total time I don't know why: 16:22 The real number 5: is A Link Between Worlds: 14:28 ( my 3DS for some reason didn't track this so I just did some math minusing my total from my number from last year... I did a replay of it this year I guess it didn't want to re-record stuff...) 4. Kirby Planet Roboto: 14:08... 23 minutes shorter for some reason 5. Shantae and the Pirates Curse: 10:17 Top 10 overall (One thing to keep in mind when I do my overall time is that in between years I got a new 3DS and was not able to transfer the data because the person who borrowed it from me lost it, so my time only represents how much time is spend on games from 2015 on otherwise games like Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time 3D, and so forth would be on here) 1. Fire Emblem Fates (Conquest but I have all three versions): 291:19 2. Fire Emblem Awakening: 81:44 3. Dragon Quest 7: 77:16 4. Smash 3DS: 44:23 5. Majora's Mask 3D: 33:55 6. Pokémon X: 32:37 7. A Link Between Worlds: 30:29 8. Animal Crossing: New Leaf: 26:59 9. Streetpass Mii Plaza: 19:12 10. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon: 16:47
  14. Hello and welcome, fire emblem in general is a great and venerable series with 14 great entries (The NES entries haven't aged terribly well though, but if you don't mind clunkiness you might like them) don't let anyone tell you otherwise, its like Zelda in that all the entries are very different games so you're going to get some division among the Fanbase, it's just inevitable with a series that changes as much is this one does. When you're finished with awakening and fates and want to dive deeper into the series which I recommend you do, feel free to ask where you should start. If you need help with the games themselves as some of them can be hard feel free to ask as we have many people who are experts and can help you out if need be. Here you also find a large amount of people who loves JRPG and turn based strategy games in general so feel free to ask about recommendations for other series in that genre as well or anything else really alot of the members are well-versed in a multitudes of genres and platforms (mostly PlayStation, Nintendo & PC you're not gonna find much Xbox discussion here).
  15. The Last Guardian: I quite like the game this despite it's many flaws, it's rare to play an AAA game with actual artistic vision and while does not hit on all it's notes I think it's as good as ICO, but not really as good as Shadow of the Colossus. Really my big problem with the game is that Trico can't die no matter what once you realize he's in no real danger it really takes the stakes out of some of the situations in the game, because I realize it's just a looping animation of him being tortured you can take as much time of the puzzle as you dang well please. It still sucks to hear him getting hurt, but having no failure to state attached to it really pulls the veil off the eyes. It also suffers from the same occasional pacing issues that ICO did. It also on top of all this has some various technical issues it really shows it's rough development in the game so frame rate issues are pretty bad for non-pro users in any open area ( though this will hopefully be improved overtime) and and Trico AI is inconsistent to say the least, he's not as bad as the Internet is making out to be you just have to learn his quirks and then you can get him to be relatively obedient, he still glitches out occasionally though even when you master him. 8.5/10 in its current state (would be a 9.5 if the bugs are worked out). The Witcher 3: this is an absolutely incredible RPG it has tons of freedom to explore, but it's combat is not the greatest but meh, it's definitely passable and entertaining enough, but the story, characters, choices, customization, the exploration, and even the side quests are awesome, this game is nothing short of incredible. I recommend it to anyone who can take it's Hard M and likes Western RPGs. It would be one my favorite games ever if it wasn't for the fact that it's just a bit too risqué for my tastes. I was warned about this before hand, so I did take that to account and I got exactly what I expected, but it doesn't mean it's not a thing that stops it from being one my favorite games ever. Because I get it you have nudity you don't need to flaunt it all the time, like most games with this have a relatively limited amount of it, but Witcher goes all out on it to the point that there is a scene where you're in a sauna with a bunch of old women, I shouldn't have to explain why that's very uncomfortable. My problem isn't with existing in the game I know some people like the stuff whatever that's their thing (I have moral qualms with pornographic imagery, but you do you I'm no one to judge) but my problem is is it's very difficult to opt out of it whereas most RPG's give me easy ways to do it or make it limited so I only have to block it out so much. Thankfully the blood and gore is not horribly over the top I don't say this out any moral issue but because I literally cannot play games that are too gory I get ill (yeah this is the thing or else I would've played Doom and Ninja Gaiden), but I know this is a thing that people like even if I wish games would tone it down a little or a least give me options to tone it down a little for my own queasiness issues. 9.5/10
  16. Here is the literal list of every non-launch AAA exclusive (that's not garbage like The Order, or No Man's Sky) on the console it's so small that I could just recommend you all of them. If you have not already played though them I recommend you purchase the Uncharted Collection and Last of Us remastered before playing Uncharted 4. Uncharted 4 cannot be appreciated if you didn't play the previous games. Last Guardian: do you like ICO, not Shadow of the Colossus, ICO if to this day you can still enjoy that game you will be able to appreciate the last guardian, it's a great game but is a heavily flawed game as well you also have to have patience as the AI is not entirely reliable. Bloodborne: it's dark souls with a castlevania like aesthetic and that's all... Ratchet and Clank: You can get this game for dirt cheap right now so its totally worth it if you have any appreciation for Platformer's. Until Dawn: do you like slasher films do you mind the light adventure games genre if you like either of those things you'll likely enjoy this game. And then there's a couple games that are ports Vita games that we're good namely Tearaway Unfolded (which I played and by the way is pretty good you'll like it if you appreciate little big planet) and Gravity Rush remastered. There are also some exclusive digital games such as Amplitude and everybody's gone to the rapture I cannot recommend any of the digital exclusives, I recommend doing your own research and finding out what you like from those as they are very particular on taste, and I haven't found any that are really standout yet. And that's every single non launch exclusive for the console that's out right now I am not joking. Of the launch line up the only two games that are redeemable are Infamous: Second Son and Killzone: Shadowfall I don't recommend either as they're mostly just good for launch games. Also If you have any interest in Dishonored 2, and Arkham knight do not get the PC version get the PS4 versions.
  17. Well its more similar to a live action hardcore Pokémon game but Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a really good action RPG of sorts.
  18. Vika: the least of the Tormod group has all the same problems plus is not as good as Muarim and Tormod. 3/10 Rafiel: Dancer that uses four space, but moves less doesn't have canto and only has a couple of chapter so he is a 9 would be 10 otherwise. 9/10
  19. Tormod: oh IS why did you do this to him, why he's awesome, this is one of the games many mistakes... now do to his abysmal availability Tormod is a 4/10 even though he should be higher oh well I guess he is useful while he lasts... Muaruim: shares Tormod's availability problems but is quite a bit less worse for wear and is actually fairly helpful in 4-4. 5.5/10
  20. This video might help you get a better picture Digital foundry are very good at analyzing tech.
  21. I guess I'll give a perspective of someone that didn't entirely love the game, but played it all the way through... The question comes to what do you value in an RPG. If story and exploration are what you value stay away from this game it is super linear (not just in progression, but the world as well the dungeons are very tight and there's zero open environments) and has a fairly boring story. If the combat and mechanics of an RPG are what you value, this RPG will have more than enough for you, it has creative dungeons and a pretty good combat system. It also has some pretty good characters and some a bunch of Fire Emblem fan service. If that sounds appealing to you and you don't mind the lack of a great story and exploration, then you will enjoy this game. If the lack of those two things are dealbreaker I do not recommend it because you have a similar experience to me as I found it plainly mediocre.
  22. Tauroneo: While certainly capable where he is available he mostly just sucks up your XP due to his strange availability issues, not as bad as Tormod in the category but certainly not preferable. 5/10 Fiona: What were the developer smoking when they made Fiona I want to know, because she is like the worst cavalier in existence! She even comes at semi decent level, but her bases are so horrible it's not even funny, and not only that but she's given strange availability issues in part one for no reason. But I will give Fiona a single point more then Meg for the existence of Savior on her person and being able to take it off her and give it to someone better. 2/10
  23. Jill: Best unit in Dawn Brigade not as good as Haar but what does that matter she is not competing with Haar anytime outside of part 4 which is just a royal parade anyways. 9.5/10. Zihark: right below Nolan he is good but loses points for being a bit fragile he is better then Edward but only just... overall 8/10
  24. if that is true it's actually FE 16 (cause BS counts).
  25. Well I tend to use almost everyone in this game, but I think it's more due to the fact that I am super OCD about experience in this particular game and tend to have even level units, so no one's really high-leveled by this point (I also sometimes save up slim weapons just for this occasion). That and I have a knack for leveling Est's, i.e. I was able to level Sophia of all people on my first playthough Binding Blade with minimal resets. I usually find Cog of Destiny to be a death sentence for baselevel Nino she needs to have at least three or four more levels under her belt in my experience, who knows haven tried it recently.
