  1. Endgame: Kyujo Incident – Takumi’s Revenge: Introduction 1 Endgame: Kyujo Incident – Takumi’s Revenge: Introduction 2: ...
  2. Yes, sort of. Except it's not going to be as fantasy-heavy, but would examine more of history and geopolitics.
  3. Sorry for the long hibernation, people. After a long period of getting sick with Fates, I realised that I wanted to start moving onto other projects. In saying this, I don't want to leave this unfinished. So here is the epilogue to Chapter 27 I left finished. Chapter 27: The Business Plot: Epilogue 1: Arrest Chapter 27: The Business Plot: Epilogue 2: Takumi’s defiance To be continued... Next, the final chapter!!!
  4. Man, completely forgot those series~! Speaking of which, Battle Network really hits me with the deja vu now that we have home appliances (beyond PC and maybe the TV) around the house being wired to the internet. Come to think about it, are you all going to be uploading your non-FE stories here or elsewhere? As far as my Persona fanfic is concerned, there isn't a definitive Persona fan forum for me, so it might have to be Ao3 or Wattpad, with relevant links posted here and Bulbagarden Forums (with me being a member there). Speaking of Bulbagarden, I've had a history chronology and geography textbook fiction for the Pokemon Gen 1-4 regions that I previously worked on. It's a reconstruction of the "Like real-life Japan unless noted" worldbuilding approach that was prevalent in Gen 1-2. I really should get around to resurrecting that.
  5. @eclipse: Also, a belated thanks to pinning this thread! I've further updated my first draft plot for Crimson Flower and Verdant Wind. I've added a basic plot of the epilogue/Fodlan's post-War situation and also how Hilda participates in the modified CF timeline. See the very first post on this thread.
  6. @eclipse: I did, and didn't realise thissince I was in Sakura's Theme. Yes, could you see if the font format can be fixed? Much appreciated.
  7. I've noticed that there isn't a concept thread for written works (at least not on the first page) like on the Fan Projects subforum, so I thought I create one here. Here, you can show your previews or ideas for others that you'd like to share, discuss, and get feedbacks on - FE-related or otherwise. Mods, can we have this pinned on the subforum? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've got three ideas of fanfics with mock-LP footages that I am working on, after I finish off Fates Conquest (see my signature). The first one is a fanfic retelling Three House's Crimson Flower, but with some Verdant Wind chapters and plotlines included. Here, Claude joins Edelgard's conquest during the Five-Year War of Fodlan, which I originally posted in Reddit: The second one is a crossover between the Pokemon Anime in XY, and Fire Emblem: Binding Blade in a closer depiction to real-life Europe, and a modern reenactment of World War 2 with some variations, which I've linked in shared document format from my Icedrive cloud. The third one is not really FE, but Persona (though it has a TMSFE whatif arc branching out from the ending of Persona 4). Basically my retelling of Persona 3 to Persona 5's stories. (Also in shared doc format from my Icedrive cloud.) The major differences from canon are:

(Also in shared doc format.) The major differences from canon are: more involvement of characters from other number entries involved or influencing with the plot of the number in question, particularly Masayoshi Shido, Principal Kobayakawa, and Suguru Kamoshida in Persona 4, and Naoto Shirogane and the Shadow Operatives in Persona 5. minor rewrites with Yukiko and Kanji's social links, complete overhaul of Naoto's social link, and a reassignment of the P4 Empress social link from Margaret to Sayuri explicitly writing some family members in: Sayuri Dojima-Narukami (National Police Agency senior-ranked bureaucrat and Yu's mother) Sakura and Akio Amagi (Yukiko's parents) Zenichi and Mitsue Tatsumi (Kanji's parents) Naoto Shirogane III and IV (canon!Naoto's grandfather and father respectively) Isamu and Haruka Dojima (Sayuri/Ryotaro's parents and Yu/Nanako's grandparents) Hirotsugu Narukami (Yu's father) Yuko Narukami (Hirotsugu''s sister and Yu's aunt) Takaisa Amamiya (Ren's grandfather and Sayuri's immediate supervisor at work) paralogues involving Sayuri - both as flashbacks from her high school days in Yaso-Inaba, and her work in Washington DC with the FBI concurrent to P4's main story making Tokyo Mirage Sessions as an alternate timeline branch from Persona 3-4 - Sayuri and Naoto's prosecution against the Conspiracy happens far earlier and more successfully, and as a result Persona 5's story never happens.
  9. I guess there's also the question that whether it's actually worth going the Master Classes depending on the units and class. The JP FE fandom Kawaki Chatei has a lot to say (both for and against) on that matter.
  10. It's not always possible or practical to promote to the Master classes I want, though. The majority of the classes requires high levels in horseback or flying, which has the difficulty of the levelling up opportunities being more limited. In the case of Great Knight, it also requires proficiency in armor which requires to be in classes with low movement. This hits harder in Crimson Flower which has fewer chapters than the other routes, and the last two of that route being back-to-back. I managed to get Leonie to Bow Knight (due to the requirements levels overlapping nicely with her strengths and her default class), Petra to Falcon Knight (she had strength in flying and swords), Mercedes to Gremory (only required her two magic proficiencies), and Caspar to Warlock (also only required his proficiencies in fistfights and Axes), and that's it for Master Class. Bernadetta I admittedly messed up by focusing on raising her as a Sniper when I could have reclassed her into Cavalier/Paladin temporarily. Hubert's Dark Knight would have been difficult though as it requires horseback proficiency, and I don't recall any magical horseback classes before Dark Knight that Hubert could exploit... Anyone managed to do this?
  11. Interestingly enough, I made Annette a Brigand and raised her Axe rank to a C. In hindsight, it probably wasn't a good idea, considering the lack of strength, speed, defense, and movement, but at least I can use her Bolting Axe, wooo! As for Ferdinand, is he still quite strong as a cavalier/wyvern in Maddening? I actually had to bench him a couple of times, because he was hogging up too much EXP because of how busted he became in Normal Mode CF.
  12. Yes, exactly as you said. Although, Three Houses, and particularly what I see on my current run on CF is a step in the right direction. Compared to past entries, thereis a considerably larger amount of speaking roles from non-Lord units, with cutscenes showing more interactions between Black Eagles members outside of Edelgard and Hubert. And I wish there is more of that with key relevant characters for future games, particularly remakes which already has the story sorted out.
  13. I'm not sure how popular this is, but it's something that gave me the impression that it's not all that popular. It could be just that people are being very vocal against this. I think I can understand both Edelgard and Rhea's motivations and actions. Even without the mole people, one can only look to real-life history to show that real fundemental change were mostly carried with great sorrow and great disruption to the establishment. The end of feudalism? The Black Plague had a major part in that. The British welfare system, the restructuring against the Victorian-age class stratification, and particularly NHS? That was because of the two World Wars and maybe the Great Depression. (And see here for an article that supports this line of thinking - Can inequality only be fixed by war, revolution or plague? (The Economist), History suggests there is a way to lower inequality. But you’re not going to like it. (The Washington Post)) Democratization and decolonization of the Home Countries in the Japanese Empire? Also due to World War 2 and Japan's surrender. Japan's surrender? Well, I'm one of the few Japanese that see the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as inevitable for that to happen, even though I don't approve of it. (Heck if the Kyujo Incident indicates to me anything, even that might not have been enough.) The Meiji Restoration and the subsequent modernization of Japan? Probably would not have happened if Satsuma and Choshu (or any other fiefdoms) did not start the Boshin War against the Tokugawa Shogunate. At least not to the same extent. Modernization of France (and the rest of Europe)? Probably would not have happened to the same extent without the French Revolution and Napoleon being in power. All of this shows just how vested and entrenched establishments can be. If we even go further, we've seen wars waged for far more selfish and trigger-happy reasons than Edelgard's. Hong Kong is now regarded as one of the few places within the Sinosphere that was at least somewhat democratic - thus many resisting Chinese rule, especially over the past 2 years. Singapore, while not as much, is also at least developed with a generally higher standard of living compared to the rest of South East Asia. Back in the days however? They were acquired by the British Empire for profit, and the former's annexation was closely intertwined with the British pushing opium onto China. At the end of the day, I don't really see a problem with this kind of story - though I don't deny that there are some problems with how Three Houses is written. It's way better written than FE Fates nonsensical depiction of Hoshido vs Nohr, and more importantly, it isn't real-life politicians we're dealing with at the end of the day.
  14. +1! This is probably my first FE game that I actually enjoy the story and pay attention to it. I'm currently in CF, and I notice a lot of small details about Byleth and Edelgard that makes sense to me how she acts more heroic (or at least less villainous) than in the other routes. Once I move to AM and others, I'm sure I'll be able to see the same bits and pieces with Dimitri, Claude, and Rhea. My personal view is that it also feels like an allegorical social commentary against Japan, critiquing how conformity and the status quo prevalent in the country (shown as the church's establishment) is ultimately detrimental for the nation in the long-term (even if is much less painful in the shorter term). There's also parallels of how groundbreaking reform often came at high prices in the forms of upheavals. For example, abolition of feudalism in the Middle Ages only came because of the Black Death. The decolonization, the welfare state and NHS in Britain, and the downfall of militarism in Japan etc all came at great cost and upheaval in the form of World War 2 (and in some cases also World War 1). The abolition of nation-wide segregation came in the form of unrest through the Civil Rights Movement. And so on. I actually prefer XY because of how easy it is. Just because I'm an adult doesn't mean I have all the time to muck around with movesets, abilities, and attack power etc. I've got commitments in life. But the biggest aspect I prefer XY over ORAS/DPPt/BW is the Kalos region itself. This was the first time we had something explicitly overseas (BW doesn't have the 'Murica depiction in its setting and characters and therefore doesn't eally count in my view), the first time since GSC that the similarity to its real-life culture is made explicit again, and I think they've done a good job depicting Poke-France. Maybe not quite the same as when the nations and the societies are explicitly mentioned to be the "same as our unless otherwise noted" like in RBY and GSC, but I really like the reinterpretation of an idealized version of our world. And looking back now, this is what ultimately influenced how the settings for SM and SwSh were approached (more explicitly Hawaiian/British) and I greatly prefer this to the wishy-washy setting of the not-quite-Japanese RSE and DPPt.
  15. So there are a lot of tropes that grinds our gears, whether it is too cliche, too offensive, or too annoying...except for this one example you saw. Either it was just too hilarious to be riled up about it, it was handled exceptionally well and the character became all the more badass/compelling/sympathetic for it, you saw the logic and the author's point behind and found it thought-provoking etc. Conversely there may be classic tropes that you love. But for some reason, you hate, cringe, groan, for this particular trope's example or even lodged a complaint against the broadcaster/producer. TV Tropes have a page for this called Trope Enjoyment Loophole. So any examples of story tropes that you normally hate, but you at least did not mind (or even liked/loved/admitted made the story stronger) for that example in question? Do you also have story tropes that you normally love, but in this particular instance you hated? Normally hate, but with an exception I like: Hate is a massive stretch, but I generally dismiss J-Pop (standalone or as a theme song for movies etc) as something outside of my musical interests. Especially more recent ones, and those that don't sound distinctively Japanese. Even though I am Japanese. Except for the very same kind of songs used in Tokyo Mirage Sessions - and I don't really know why. Normally like but not this one: I generally love classical music in movies, like Finlandia at the end of one of the Die Hard movies, but I'm not a fan of overused ones. Pachelbel's Canon with the wedding scenes in The Proposal (2009 film) was one - I'd really wished they used Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral (in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin; it's actually the song before the famous Wedding March)for the same scene.
  16. Man, I've missed that one cause of the lack of localization AND being one of the few DS games with the stupid region lock.
  17. This is something that I have been wondering since the last few weeks. It has stemmed from my posts discussing a possible remake of FE4, and also my opinions regarding the Switch remake of Link's Awakening. We had stuff like NES/SNES Mini, Virtual Console, and Switch Online ports of originals. Gone are the days when we had to scavenge on EBay or secondhand stores for old games...well, mostly. Many of the games I used to play decades ago are sold on the eShop now. Back when VC was not yet a thing, Shadow Dragon was the closest accessible thing for the me to experience Marth's story. I wasn't a huge fan of how the gameplay and story presentation was a bit too faithful, but at least I can understand why that approach was taken. Which brings to my next question: should remakes be more reimagined and modernised onwards? I'm asking this, because now that accessibility to original versions is not as much of an issue, I don't really understand why we need faithful remakes as much. There still might be cases for them, particularly those on consoles that aren't yet ported online, like some of the stuff from N64 and Gamecube and onwards. To be even fairer, I also acknowledge that newer games tend to be less tedious with cutscenes, scene changes, transitions from overworld into battles, so that may also have to be considered with VC releases. As for my reasons for not wanting faithful remakes? Because then what is the point of a Switch remake? You might as well just ask Nintendo to have it released on the VC with the necessary localizations, which have been done for the original FE1-3. For example, I'm not interested in playing Link's Awakening on the Switch because it's too similar to the original to justify a price tag of approx $60. I've already played that on the GameBoy years ago, and even if I didn't, there's the VC for that which is $5. Instead, I wanted the story and worldbuilding of Koholint to be expanded way beyond the original, and make the characterizations deeper, the history richer, and the story experience as epic as Skyward Sword. If they've modernised the presentation, then I'd wish they've gone the whole way and expanded the game. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, because of how richer the world of Midgar looked, and how much real it was presented as. It shows just how much of a crapsack place Lower Midgar is compared to the above, not to mention how smooth and stress-free the gameplay was - especially the transition into battle. So yeah, provided that ports of old games remain readily accessible I think future remakes should generally be bolder, and designers should be less hesitant to shake things up.
  18. I've had some further thought about GoHW since I last posted, and rethought about the unique gameplay mechanic. I don't want something too faithful, because then what is the point of a Switch remake? You might as well just ask Nintendo to have it released on the VC with the necessary English, French, and Spanish localizations. I mean, I'm mot interested in playing Link's Awakening on the Switch because it's too similar to the original to justify a price tag of approx $60. I've already played that on the GameBoy years ago, and even if I didn't, there's the VC for that which is $5. I do want some acknowledgement of the unique mechanics, now that I know better about the some of the design decisions and basic narrative behind the game. I now know that GoHW looks at military operations from a more macro scale than most other FE games. What each unit represents in GoHW is essentially what your entire party looks like in most other FE entries. I also now know that batallions/regiments (?) historically had to look after their own equipment, and win their own loot, so I'd like the individualized inventory to stay, but with a couple of modifications for the sake of logic or improving QoL. I'd like purchasing items off each other directly be an option under certain conditions (maybe units from the same faction, or those that have support levels). Married couples should be able to trade freely, as a bonus to further push the whole marriage point for GoHW. Also for what I believe is for obvious reasons, existing family members (parent-child or brother-sister) that are in the player's army should also at least be afforded an option for discounts purchases, unless there's a good in-story reason not to. Also, did I hear that vulneraries don't exist in GoHW? How much of a problem would it be if we add them (as either purchasables or standard army rations)? How much does the lack of vulneraries in the original contribute to an unwinnable situation? My opinions on adding battalions for GoHW has remained unchanged since my last post. As for the story, we might as well add on to the script that is already complete, and add more conversations for the non-Lord characters to further elaborate the characters and the world. Three Houses was good in giving more weight to non-Lord playable units. Not only were there paralogues for the different units, but there were, in general, more appearances and lines for them, and gave a more apparent notion that, the class/team you stuck with actually acts as a team. Paralogues might not be an feasible option for this hypothetical remake (though maybe character-specific sidequests may be), but the increased appearances of non-Lord units should be to both give the feel of an actual history instead of a "insultingly reductive and so slavishly rote" Great Man Theory approach (courtesy of Overly Sarcastic Productions) of FE's story all too often done with most past entries. Related to the previous, Sigurd's personality and flaws should stay intact as is, instead of what happened to Alm in Shadows of Valentia remake. If anything, I wouldn't mind if they rammed his flaws in diplomacy harder than the original.
  19. Another solution: Simply make it as part of a free update.
  20. Someone over at Reddit suggested extra cutscenes depicting Hubert having a celebration drink with Lord Arundel right after Chapter 18, only to then show Lord Arundel collapsing from his poisoned drink. Maybe Shambala could be a Part 3 / story-based Trial Map after you finish CF or AM, or it could be a side quest with Jeritza as a routine exercise to show who's boss when they get uppity. (VW would get the Defense of Deridu instead. Not sure about SS.) Now that you mentioned it, I wonder why that wasn't written in for CF... It could also have been a way to establish how TWISTD managed to infiltrate the Adrestian Government. I think that TWISTD was only a threat to Edelgard because of the anti-Emperor noble's backings. After all, the nobles were also involved (or at least complicit) in the crest experiments on Edelgard. That might have a way of showing how TWISTD gradually lost their power base, and thus their political influence, and how Edelgard started to defang them. Maybe not quite the same as bursting into Shambala with guns a-blazing, but still better than just mentioning them in the credits.
  21. Actually, just how much are their strengths compared to other factions? I've always assumed they managed to spy, lie, deceive, cheat and sabotage well enough to infiltrate the higher echelons of the Adrestian government. Them siding with Adrestia in CF's war should also indicate something. I thought it was more Edelgard limiting her reliance on them when she can.
  22. I've always assumed that this was due to several factors - not all of them directly tied into the current war. It could partly be because she wanted to consolidate her power on her own terms and distance herself away from TWISTD so that they wouldn't cause havoc around her. In fact, I wish there was a flashback scene of her doing her admin during the five year interim, and maybe have at least one or two random supports run and fulfilled. I don't know if I need any more personal growth for Edie during the war phase. If anything, I would have liked to see more of what she did during the five year interim. I'd liked to have thought that she and Hubert (and Alois if recruited) spent time searching for Byleth, while keeping the group together. In fact, maybe make this her moment to continue to reach out to others and fill in a couple of more side "supports" as part of her character growth. Maybe once she finds out what Ferdinand wants in a noble, say Edelgard reshuffles the nobility system so that it cannot be passed down to the next generation, similar to how British citizens can be knighted today. Maybe Edelgard makes her first attempts at her meritocracy thing, and appoints, say, Manuela as the Surgeon-General in the whole Adrestian Army. In all this, Edelgard learns how to let go, and trust and delegate onto others. As for the length, chuck in a few extra chapters showing a timeskip and maybe the climatic battle against TWISTD and Nemesis at the end. So Shambala and the missile launcher has been sabotaged, but Thales fled to regroup - they already found out that Edelgard was gunning for them. Then a revived Nemesis and Thales do their last stand against Edelgard. I mean, we have this huge dramatic Chapter 22 in Binding Blade, and 3 more chapters finding the last boss there. If the narrative there works, the same structure 18: Rhea -> 19: Shambala entry -> 20: Shambala -> 21/Final: Nemesis should work as well.
  23. Thanks. I guess it is an open interpretation at this stage. My personal opinion would be a bit of moral implications, a bit of because Byleth would be enough, and also not wanting to rely on TWISTD as much.
  24. Referring to your other analysis: Well there we go. I've still yet to play the other alternate histories, so that'll be something new. I think I know the reason why she would use the Demonic Beasts. (Are those TWISTD's?) As for CF, would it be because that she's already have Byleth and felt that the Beasts could be deployed elsewhere amongst the Imperial Troops?
