  1. For non-gender-exclusive inheritance, your priorities are (1) speeding up levelling, (2) skipping undesirable reclassing, and (3) getting something really useful early on. So Galeforce is close to the best option: girls will level up much faster with it. The Avatar's Veteran skill is similar, being a straight-up XP boost, especially since the other Tactician skill (Solidarity) is...meh.

Using Severa as the example: Cordelia will almost surely have GF when you recruit Severa, so that saves you grinding time and makes map clearing with Severa faster. You'd AT LEAST need to reclass and promote to get GF (reclass to Peg Rider, promote to DF), and probably want to promote to Hero first--that's a long time to go without Galeforce, and being able to wait and go into Dark Flier (if that's what you want her to be) only at the very end can save you some effort. As for Ricken, he can't give Severa anything male-specific, nor anything that speeds up levelling, so you want to look at classes you'd like to skip if you can or classes that focus on stats you don't care about but give skills you want. Sage is a fantastic class to go through, since it can level up by spamming Rescue (Rescue Staves essentially convert gold into XP, :P:) So having Ricken pass something else is probably worth your time. Bowbreaker is a valid choice (since Ricken can learn it too), though you could also go with Discipline (faster weapon skill gain is a form of faster levelling), Luna (procs = more kills), or Lifetaker (early grinding can leave units vulnerable).

  2. FoliFF: Actually, Sol/Luna is generally not seen as a good idea, as the two procs compete with each other. Sol has higher priority than Luna, so if both of them proc, you miss out on the bonus damage. Since Severa always has access to Dark Knight, if healing is something you care about, it's better to go Lifetaker/Luna. Lifetaker isn't a proc, and when paired with Galeforce, it can get you 100% healing per round, making it far more efficient than Sol. It's still generally considered better to run something that boosts offense (either directly e.g. Faire/proc, or indirectly e.g. hit booster/weapon breaker), but at least you avoid the possibility of competing procs.

[spoiler=Proc stuff]Going for two procs is a calculated choice: you want the expenditure of a second slot to give you the best chance of doing the biggest effect possible. So Sol is only really good to pair with Aether, because Aether is the only other proc that can heal, since it's basically a better version of Sol to begin with.

This thread lays out info about proc stacking/interfering, but I'll quote the most relevant bit here.

    Procstacks with positive Synergy:
Aether+Sol = Consistent Healing [Note the only Sol combo to have positive synergy]
    Aether+Luna= Consistent Damage
    Aether+Ignis= Consistent Damage
Luna+Ignis= Consistent Damage [not as strong as A/L or A/I]
Aether+Luna+Ignis= Extremely high Proc chance. [Dropping Ignis in favor of a -faire becomes better at ~75 SKL, unless you -need- constant proc, ignoring average output, because you're one of those "OMGERR you don't have 100% not consistent, lucky." people]

Negative synergy: Don't use these combos.
Sol+Vengeance = Higher Priority Skill does less Damage, Reduces power of Vengeance
Aether+Vengeance = Reduces the power of vengeance
Luna+Vengeance (Past ~54 Damage taken) = Higher Priority Skill does less Damage
Astra+Luna= Higher Priority Skill does less Damage
Astra+Ignis= Higher Priority Skill does less Damage
Sol+Luna = Higher Priority Skill does less Damage
Sol+Ignis = Higher Priority Skill does less Damage
Astra+Sol = Nothing beneficial from them, conflicting uses.

To be fair, Lethality+Anything outside of Apo has positive Synergy, as Lethal has the highest priority and just up and kills the opponent. [it's fairly good for L+ Skirmish (Hello, nearly Apo level enemies who don't have Dragonskin) and Streetpass (both as used by SP team and against them) applications, but other than that, it kinda sucks.]
In Apo, Lethality+Anything has negative synergy, as Lethality does less damage than all actives except 0 power Vengeance and Sol, and has highest priority.

The only caveat to the above info is that Astra CAN do more damage than Luna. Which one is better depends on the stats of the enemies you're fighting. For very low-Def/Res units that can't dodge your attacks, Astra is much better than Luna: 2.5x damage, with good chance to crit 2-3 times, is MUCH better than a measly +3 or +4 damage. For regular maps and challenges, you'll rarely see Luna outperform Astra. But for DLC and *especially* Apo, Luna is/can be waaaaaaaaaay better than Astra; sky-high Def/Res plus Dragonskin+ and Aegis+/Pavise+ means hitting for half damage is hitting for almost no damage at all, whereas Luna can easily double the damage you're dealing.

As for Yarne, I don't think anyone will recommend that you keep him a Taguel. Assassin is an acceptable choice if you want to keep similar stats--Taguels with Beaststone+ have almost identical stats to Assassins (and very nearly identical pair-up bonuses). Berserker is generally the recommended class for physical male supports, and that's what Yarne will be best at doing with any of those three dads. (My vote goes to Virion, for Hit+20, but Lon'qu theoretically gives stats that are just a hair better.) If you want more mobility, Wyvern Lord is also an option.

  3. FoliFF:
Given your picks at the bottom are not chosen, do you mind if I really shake 'em up a bit and suggest a few you aren't considering? Because if so, then I'd recommend...

Cordelia x Lon'qu -- Severa has solid stuff to begin with, and Lon'qu brings a lovely +6 Spd/Skl cap.

Gregor x Miriel -- Everything I've heard says this is great so I'm not gonna question it (haven't done it myself yet--next file!)

Cherche x Henry -- Fixes one of Gerome's main weaknesses, the lack of Berserker. If Henry isn't needed for Sumia, this is a great place to use him.

Maribelle x Libra -- Despite being only a so-so dad, Libra is almost as good as Henry here, and Brady is already good enough on his own that he doesn't need much expansion to his kit.

Olivia x Fred -- Again, despite being only so-so as a dad in general, Fred is pretty good for Inigo. Decent stats, and more importantly, strong class inheritance (Wyvern and Cavalier).

Panne x Virion -- Technically it doesn't matter, if you're benching Yarne. But Virion is a competent choice--not the best possible, but you don't need the best here.

I'm not so sure on the kid pairs. Haven't read as much about how to really exploit that.

  4. Speaking of Czar, where the hell is he anyways? Man I missed his pairing advice. : [

Unless I'm very much mistaken, Fates is taking up much of his time now.

Edit: Though, upon checking his profile, it seems he hasn't posted for about three weeks. So I don't really know what's up. Hope everything's okay!

  5. Are you talking about Owain, then I recommend Stahl as he could make Owain a decent physical fighter and a awesome Dread Fighter. If not, good physical dads are as follow; Stahl, Frederick, Chrom, The Vaike, Gregor, Avatar (Depends on your asset/flaw) and Lon'qu.

Good Pairings for Maribelle are Henry (for a sorcerer Brady), Virion (decent mods to pass), Lon'qu (same as Virion but better) and Ricken (more magic power). Overall, Brady is a great character that he don't need a father to even function as well as he do on the battlefield. His Ma already passes down some great classes to him and he only need the mods from his dad and probably nothing else at all.

Good pairing for Panne are Stahl (great skills to pass down like Hit Rate+, Vantage, Dual Guard+ etc...), Frederick (same as Stahl but lower speed mod), Virion (only worth it for Hit Rate+) and Vaike (a speedy but very strong bunny, that is now a thing). Though however Yarne is as good as a support unit than a front liner.

Taguel is known not be a good class as its range is only 1 and it can use any brave weapon unlike Manaketes who have 1-2 range with dragonstones and thus make them useful with their tanky stats (which is why I hate what they done to dragonstones in the FE: Fates).

FoliFF: I've got Stahl!Owain and I can vouch for his effectiveness as a physical unit. I generally agree with all Sil3nt 4sh's other picks, except to note that Lon'qu is slightly wasted on Owain due to class overlap.

Brady's definitely good with a lot of different dads. I actually think Libra is among your better choices: his stats are close to what Henry would give, and he doesn't really need Berserker so Henry can be put to better use elsewhere, either to pass down Berserker or to give Cynthia a good +Mag dad when Chrom marries someone else (typically the Avatar or Olivia).

As Czar_Yoshi once told me, many moons ago ( :P:), what Yarne really needs are hit-boosts, so Virion is an acceptable father, perhaps not the very best but not bad. He does best as a support for a galegirl, as most non-galeboys do. Stahl is a good dad for several kids (much like Henry, just more physical) so giving him to Yarne means an opportunity cost of *not* giving him to someone like Owain, Inigo, or Severa--which may or may not be a problem if you already have dads lined up for them. Given that that's not hard at all (e.g. Ricken!Owain, Fred!Inigo, Lon'qu!Severa), it's certainly a valid choice.

Both Taguel and Manakete aren't particularly good classes for several reasons (though S4 touched on the big ones). Yarne can instead go Assassin, which gives literally almost identical stats and pair-up bonuses, while at least giving the option of ranged attacks, or better still he can go Berserker and have range 1-2 axes as well as fat +Str/+Spd support to offer his lovely lady.

  6. Some concerns:

-Mars is roughly a year away. Food, Water, and Air required to make such a trip poses a logistics problem. You could cut the required resource cost in half by making it a one-way trip, but that's quite the gamble, when we haven't even perfected moon missions yet.

-All we know about Mars is that "Water exists". No idea how much, how accessible, and whether or not it's capable of sustaining life (Toxic? Radiated? Too small in quantity?)

-We have never taken on a terraforming mission before. Starting with the moon would be much more practical. "How long does it take to set up a biodome? How well does it work? How quickly does it fall into disrepair? Is generating an atmosphere possible with our current level of science?"

Just as Apollo had Gemini, where we proved we could *get into space at all* before we even attempted stuff like landing on the moon, so too would any Mars missions need a set of safer, test-bed missions somewhere closer to home. Building a facility on the moon would cover a lot of that. And don't forget: it wasn't Apollo 1 that landed on the moon. It was Apollo 11. We spent TEN "Moon missions" not even doing anything with the Moon itself. We got close to it; we orbited it; we tested separation and docking around it; we tested getting back to the Earth from it.

"Colonize Mars" would NEVER be the very first attempt. Trying to suggest otherwise is, honestly, putting up a strawman that's easy to knock down. Of course we're not going to leap straight into it.

As for the "year away" thing, actually there are responses to that, as-yet-untested developments ("experiments," if you prefer) in space propulsion that might be able to get people to Mars in as little as 3 months. As for the water on Mars itself, we'd know if it was radiated or not (we've done enough tests to learn that). A much better source of water will, most likely, be martian regolith--just as lunar regolith, if exposed to heat, can produce water and oxygen. It is possible to "live off the land" if you do it right--challenging, surely, but possible. With refinement and testing, we may be able to reduce that challenge to within acceptable limits.

Would any of you actually want to live on Mars? Something about a desert planet capable of generating global dust storms and dust devils sounds unpleasant to me. The fluctuating ice caps are a nice feature if you don't mind temperatures around -225 degrees minus wind sheer. Visiting the planet for research is plausible but living there could be unpleasant to say the least.

Would I? Certainly not. I like Earth just fine, thanks. But there are people who would jump at the chance, and a few of them are even qualified for it. Just as most people aren't really interested in visiting an airless lump of glass-powder and rock more than two hundred thousand miles (over 350 thousand km) away, where night is freezing death and day is raging radiation.

But we had people who would jump at the chance, and some of them were qualified too. People like Neil Armstrong. The fact that it's not a nice place for any given human to be has nothing to do with whether it is an *important* place for *some* humans to be, at some point.

Okay, let me jump back in. I don't doubt that space research is important. I see no benefit to space colonization. There are no resources on Mars. If we ever find a planet we can colonize with resources, I say go for it, but there is no actual benefit to colonizing Mars specifically.

You see no benefit to attempting to perform atmospheric engineering on another planet, to alter its atmospheric chemistry away from carbon dioxide and toward oxygen-and-nitrogen? Nothing beneficial about the biochemical knowledge they would need to maintain a sufficient supply of CO2/O2 converting organisms, or the materials knowledge to have enough shielding against the radiation from space? Nothing beneficial about the propulsion, energy, electronic, and software technology that would need to be developed to make such a mission viable? Nothing useful about the psychological benefits of studying a population in a tightly confined space where rigid regulations must be observed in order for all to live safely?

Perhaps the issue is not that there is nothing to learn, but that you are excessively skeptical about how the requisite techs can be applied to other current issues (a particular variant of the argument from ignorance).

Are asteroids even stable enough for colonization? That seems like a recipe for diasaster. I suppose you could use Mars as a base to collect resources from, but how long would it take to go from Mars to the Asteroid field?

Certainly some asteroids will be stable enough for short-term colonization, but as long-term habitats they're not especially good targets. They have very weak gravity, which makes them great for mining, but they have essentially the same problems as living on an orbital around the Earth, you'll slowly suffer muscle atrophy and bone density loss due to the lack of gravity. That said, a sufficiently-stable hollowed-out asteroid could make a decent platform for stuff like space-based refuelling/storage, which don't need to have permanent residents, just people taking a month or two time-shift on board kind of deal. Such a thing would be ideal, actually, if we can ever get space elevators working: keeping useful items in space-based storage is really helpful. (Note that I am not talking about using the asteroid as the anchor for the space elevator: just using asteroids as storage stations at distances nicely far away from the Earth.)

As PW notes, re-positioning an asteroid to a more-desirable position (such as orbiting one of the Earth-Moon Lagrange points) is a thing we could do, and there are plenty of Near Earth Objects that we could use for that purpose (without needing to hit the asteroid belt).

  7. I'll echo CoolCoolCool's reasoning, Sil3nt 4sh. Fred!Inigo is a good pick, more for the classes it provides than the stats (though the stats are decent too--not great, but decent.) Definitely go with Virion!Yarne x Gaius!Kjelle, he's a solid choice (and was sort of soft-recommended to me over Gregor!Yarne). Since Chrom!Morgan will lean physical, Vaike!Nah isn't a bad choice for a physical support unit. (Never use Kellam if you can avoid him, his stats are weak and the class lines he passes down are just not as good as Vaike's.)

Will add more for MitoRequiem later, have to close my browser so things can update :S

Looking through the thread I think I can kinda get some more ideas to also help you guys help me.

Okay! So I'm for sure gonna run RobinxPanne +STR/-LCK(would Res be better?) I plan to end as a Hero for my Robin.

Wanted to go with a Berserker build for Yarne

Running Lissa/Libra for the Sorc build on Owain

CherchexGregor seems like a good fit for me but I see a lot of Henry being a better father and I'm open to that and also want to know why(I assume it has to do with skills)

CordeliaxLonqu but again I'm open to changing this one as well as well as class suggestions for Severa I assume Hero or Paladin are like #1

ChromxSumia I'm mainly going for this one because I feel that Chrom helps Cynthia a lot(Doesn't she get Aether?) I'd probably want to throw her in the Dark Flier class as well. I don't plan on using Inigo at all so not really interested in going ChromxOlivia route plus I heard these days Sumia as the mother for Lucina isn't too bad.(I got really really early Awakening knowledge I know the game has changed a lot since then lol)

I'm gonna add Noire to this list I want an Assassin. I hear TharjaxGaius is pretty legit for an Assassin Noire? If so what skills do I wanna rock.

I was going to do KellamxNowi but reading above I see that VaikexNowi is better so I'll go with that.

DonnelxKjelle is my go to and I want to make Kjelle a Bride I hear that this pairing works wonders for that.

As for actual pairups for stats and what not I haven't put thought into that and open to suggestions as well.

+Str/-Lck is fine. Technically, -Def or -Res would mean you'd have nothing reducing your Str cap, but it's a small difference. Berserker is a good class for boys: strong offense, good pair-up bonuses provided to the lead unit, axes are versatile, etc. And, as stated, Libra!Owain is perfectly fine as a Sorc.

Not much more to add beyond CoolCoolCool's responses, but there are a few things I can add/clarify:

Henry's a good dad for several kids, he gives a good combination of classes and offers a good Mag inheritance.

Lon'qu!Severa is considered a very strong unit; her kit is a little different from most (her only procs are Vengeance and Astra, for example) but that +6 Spd/Skl is tasty.

Gaius definitely gives Kjelle better mods than Donnel does, but (unusually) Donnel passes down a nicer set of classes, especially since Kjelle gets Myrmidon naturally anyway.

Correct. Chrom's daughters always inherit Aether, his sons always inherit Rightful King. Chrom is definitely a good dad for a physically-inclined Cynthia; Henry is for a Mag focus.

Gaius!Noire is a very solid choice. As an Assassin, CCC's listed skills are fine for non-Apo fights; in Apo, drop Astra (which will do pitiful damage) for Lucky Seven or Anathema.

    Not much more than that.

  8. I've already done Apothesis on Lunatic but I wouldn't really mind doing it again tbh. The Marth Maps and Apothesis are the only maps I've done. I guess let's just say I wanna clear ALL of the DLC including Apothesis.

Well, in that case, a few things. First: +Def is generally agreed to be one of the worst assets you can pick, at least for Apo use. You have more direct experience of it than I do (which is to say you have some at all :P:), but everything I've been told says "pure offense is the way to go," and -Def is the least offense-harming flaw there is. Is there a particular reason you want +Def?

Second: most of the standard questions apply. Who will Chrom and Sumia (the two parents with the fewest support options) marry? Most people seem to do Chrom x Sumia, but there are good reasons to try for Chrom x Olivia and go for Sumia x Henry. Do you care about getting Galeforce on daughters that don't inherit it from mom? If so, Donnel and Gaius need to marry Sully, Tharja, or Nah. Nah usually draws the short straw there, and since you didn't mention her, I suspect you won't mind if she doesn't have GF. I've had good results from Donnel!Kjelle, and I assume she'd be solid as a Bride.

Third: Nothing wrong with using Owain as a Sorcerer--it'll be more versatile than a Swordmaster anyway. However, only two dads give him that class: Libra and Henry. They're damn close to equal in terms of power, with the same +Mag cap and little else to say for them (since Owain already has Barbarian and . I'd probably go with Libra, myself, since Henry is a potentially useful father for several other children while Libra...isn't.

  9. Ayyy another GS fan(I actually don't hate Dark Dawn too much but it was ok at least)! Speed is an issue for nah but I'll be putting her on the back in that case since she can't get galeforce & is quite slow. I'll probably pass Dual Guard+ on her from Frederick.

Really, DD was more just...disappointing rather than bad. It did a good job of making the locations feel magical and mysterious--I quite liked the "zodiac" dungeon for example--but the writing wasn't nearly as good, and a bunch of stuff felt like weird ass-pulls for no reason other than "we need to make this character a requirement" (Amiti's Insight and Himi's Search instead of Reveal? Really?). But I should probably stop there since none of these are Fire Emblem games! :P

Hello cuties, I'm gonna be jumping back to Awakening to finish off the DLC I never finished aka all of them cept Apothesis I will be playing Hard this time around because tbh Lunatic isnt fun ti me anyways.

I will be running a +DEF Robin and Im debating on marrying Panne or Cherche not sure. In terms of children I want to prioritize/use?

Morgan, Lucina, Gerome, Owain(Kinda wanna make him a Sorc tbh unless people got good Myrmidon builds), Severa, Cynthia and Yarne oh and Kjelle(I wanna make her a bride) any suggestions are welcome thanks in advance

Are you planning to shoot for Apo, or are you just wanting to experience the story/writing of the DLC? The difference between the two is significant, as Vascela said earlier (I'm still fairly "new" to the optimization scene, so I tend to focus my attention on what little I've learned/heard from others in this thread, which mostly means a no-limits Apo focus).

  10. Thanks a lot. My MU is +Str/-Luck. I plan to pass down AxeFaire to Severa so she can make use of forged Hector's Axes and Helswath better.

From what I saw Fred x Nowi is similar to Kellam x Nowi. Just Fred trades 1 point of Def in favor of 1 point of Str.

+Str/-Lck will be great for both of your MU's children (edit: though, I'll note, +Str/-Def is slightly better). They'll end up with +5 Str/Skl and +3 Spd, a healthy combo for any physical attacker. Mag is weak, though, so I definitely recommend passing Galeforce from Cordelia even though both daughters can learn it on their own. Really, GF/Axefaire is a solid inheritance for both of them.

Fred!Nah does exchange a point of Def to gain a point of Str. Neither dad is especially good, but...well, Nah has less potential to lose than other children.

Also: Everything Vascela said (well done on that, Vascela). Brave weapons, in effect, stack multiplicatively with doubling and Galeforce. When you factor in the extra chance for procs and such, it's a huge benefit. But because of that, I'm not sure why Sil3nt 4sh recommends Manakete as an ending class for Fred!Nah. Manaketes don't get Braves, which hurts a lot, but they've also got abysmal Spd and Fred makes it worse.

Also x2 combo: Golden Sun!! Such a great game (and the sequel too; the third...not as much). Good to see another proud fan out there. :)

  11. Oh, I like those ideas. I've done a bit more reading through the thread, and I had no idea how absolutely flexible and good Gregor lets Laurent be.

So, I think these are all good, then:

    (M)Avatar x Lissa

    Chrom x Sumia

    Stahl x Panne

    Gregor x Miriel

    Lon'Qu x Cordelia

I'm not sure how easy it will be to collect/use children if the only grinding I'm doing is fighting random risen spawns (I'd call it soft grind, if that), but I suppose I might find out.

I feel a lot happier now that I have some structure to focus on.

From there, the next useful questions to answer are who's marrying Sully, Tharja, and Nowi--as those are your opportunities to get Galeforce on a girl who wouldn't normally have it. General agreement is that Nah isn't a sufficiently good investment to justify it, so most go Donnel x Sully and Gaius x Tharja. No special need to grind for either of those, as only Donnel's Villager skills are worth passing down, and Gaius!Noire can't inherit much worth talking about (Sol or Axebreaker--or Counter, if you don't really care about Apotheosis--are the only things worth passing).

You'll want to try to grind Panne enough to get Lancebreaker, as Stahl!Yarne can't get Wyvern Rider. As usual, Laurent and Gerome should inherit Dual Support+, which means you'll need to promote their mothers to Valkyrie ASAP. Mothers who can pass down Galeforce obviously should grind enough to reach that point (Sumia, Cordelia, Lissa, Olivia, Maribelle). M!Avatar should quickly pursue one of the male-exclusive skills to give F!Morgan, like Axefaire or Wrath.

From there, your only unpaired mothers are Nowi, Cherche, Olivia, and Maribelle. For them, I'd recommend Fred x Olivia (one of Inigo's better options, actually) and Vaike x Nowi. The other two are sort of a tossup, based on who marries Henry, the last dad that gives Berserker to his sons. Since Brady can't get a positive Str inheritance from anyone but Vaike (and even then it's +1), you may as well double down on the Mag and capitalize on what Ricken can give you, so Henry!Gerome and Ricken!Brady round out your options.

    [spoiler=In summary](M)Avatar x Lissa

    Chrom x Sumia

    Stahl x Panne

    Gregor x Miriel

    Lon'Qu x Cordelia

    Donnel x Sully

    Gaius x Tharja

    Frederick x Olivia

    Vaike x Nowi

    Henry x Cherche

    Ricken x Maribelle

That gives you solid, fairly well-rounded options. The last three pairs could be juggled around without too much problem though, if you don't really like one of them.

  12. Really depends on the playstyle. You can have a FeMU x Chrom stomp comp, or you can throw in extra units into the mix (MaMU x Cordelia, Chrom x Sumia...). Granted, those are more geared towards Lunatic+. For the vanilla Lunatic and below, Panne and Nowi are definitely in the spotlight as well. It's just when you're under the pressure that you need something to work, you typically have to ignore small details like an entire list of pairings (not really ideal to recruit every single child--especially one that's going to warm the bench like the parents in question as well).

I think you might be better off posting ideas of what your skeleton team might look like so you can bounce back and forth some concepts or pairings that might help you in your run. Whatever you post isn't set in stone, so there isn't much stress at all. Am I guaranteeing your first list is going to be what you'll use? No; there might be some changes. Some things are more concrete than others.

Just want to second this (again): without knowing at least a few of your core choices--who the Avatar, Chrom, and Sumia are going to marry--it's very difficult, if not impossible, to properly assist you with this, Chocoburger.

Do you have any opinion on those three characters?

  13. Not all that much as I remember. It's certainly more usable than Chrom, but not quite Libra level either.

The difference is pretty minor, yeah. Looks like switching from +Def/-Lck to +Mag/-Def would only net you 6 more percentage points of growth rate--hardly worth writing home about. Lucina's cap inheritance from Chrom is broad but shallow (+1 to Mag, +2 to everything else except Def and Res), so the Avatar's contribution, while always meaningful, will never be a world-shaking deal.

  14. I'm not sure whether or not I've mentioned it, but Despoil and Leif's Blade's effects can stack, meaning it's possible to get 2 Bullions from this method after just one kill.

Inigo (regardless of father), Vaike (with Despoil passed down) fathered Kjelle, Nah, Noire, Gregor fathered children (passing Despoil to the females), Donnel fathered Laurent, Henry fathered Severa (again passing on the skill) and at a guess (since I'm not sure if Cherche passing on Troubadour converts to Barbarian on Gerome) Donnel fathered Gerome.

As far as I'm aware, they're eligible for Armsthrift, Despoil Leif's Blade abuse for cash. The more the merrier, right?

So, I've only been running this on one character (Inigo) thus far, Stahl!Owain will be able to do it as well though once he can use swords again (not finished levelling Berserker). But I haven't yet seen an instance of a double-bullion happen. In theory, Inigo's Lck should be 49 after pair-up bonuses, meaning if the two work separately it should have a 24% chance of giving two bullion (and a 26% chance of giving none), but...that doesn't seem to be happening. It's seeming much more like it's still just one calculation, 49% chance of getting one bullion. Are you completely sure they stack?

  15. Well, we can check! Looking up the Sorcerer class in the FE Wiki, we can find out what the class's contribution to Mag is; it's 6.

So, Chloey's magic stat, regardless of class, is 31-6 = 25. If you changed to a class that gave no benefit to Mag, that would be her stat--it can't go any lower than that. Meanwhile, Chrom is a (male) GL, which adds 0 to Mag. So Chrom's base Mag IS his current Mag: 7. As it turns out, Lucina's base Mag is 1, and (female) Lord's class bonus is 1, so I'm pretty sure her personal starting Mag, regardless of class, is 0.

So we get: (25+7+0)/3 + 1 = 32/3 + 1 = 10+1 = 11. So, yes, she should (just barely) have double-digit Mag when recruited. If you can, it would be useful to raise one of her parents' Mag by just 1 point--that would give her an extra point too.

If exact numbers aren't a big deal, you can get a rough idea of a child's final stats by just doing a simple average: (mother+father+child)/3. This will be off--it will be several points higher than the actual result--but it is easier to calculate and doesn't require you to look up any numbers. Using your provided numbers, for example, that would be (31+7+1)/3 = (39/3) = 13, which is only 2 points off from the actual value. Pretty close! So, if you want to get a rough-but-easy estimate of a child's stats, do a simple average and then shave off a few points (no more than 5, I'd say) and you have a rough idea.

Once you recruit Lucina and can access the child paralogues, though, it's literally just as easy as starting the map, skipping the intro, and looking at the unit. If you grind the parents enough, their children will have some (pre-promotion) capped stats, so this method isn't perfect but it remains easy and requires exactly 0 calculation.

  16. Long story short: Children's starting stats are an average of their starting stats and their two parents' stats. It's not QUITE that simple, because the average part must *ignore* all class stat bonuses, but then you add on the child's class bonuses at the end. I'll use a simple example; let's say we're looking at Str, for a +Str/-Def female Avatar married to Chrom. The Avatar is currently a Hero, and Chrom is currently a Great Lord, and both have capped Str.

    Avatar's total Str = 46. Class bonus = 8. Avatar's base Str = 46-8 = 38.

    Chrom's total Str = 44. Class bonus = 10. Chrom's base Str = 44-10 = 34.

    Lucina's absolute base Str = 5. Female Lord Str bonus = 5.

So Lucina's Str upon recruitment should be (38+34+5)/3 + 5 = (38+39)/3+5 = (77)/3 + 5 = 25 + 5 = 30. However, the cap for a (female) Lord's Str is 28, so her Str will be capped when she's recruited; promoting her to Great Lord will raise the cap, and add an extra 3 Str (because the female Great Lord's Str bonus is 8, an increase of 3), putting Lucina at 33 Str. This pattern--two parents with capped stats producing a child with pre-promoted stats that are all, or almost all, capped--has held up fairly well in my current file.

Unless I've made an error in my math somewhere, of course. As a note: when doing the average, you ignore any fractional parts. 77/3 is actually 25.666... but it gets truncated to 25 for this calculation.

    Edit:
Also, unless I'm mistaken, the stat bonuses provided by Limit Breaker have no effect on inheritance. Even if they did, the most you could get would be an extra 6 points (20/3 = 6.666... which truncates to 6), so it's not like it's a huge loss.

  17. Basically, all of those things dont affect me in anyway.

Given that you are posting on an Internet forum, using a personal computer, in a space that exists because of a series of video games, I think space research has a very significant impact on you personally and individually.

Computers, as we know them today, could not exist without technologies developed specifically as part of the Apollo (and Gemini) program(s). Two of the people who worked on the prototype portable computers that were absolutely required for the lunar lander to operate correctly went on to found Intel--the company that, in all probability, manufactured the processor your computer uses right now. The Internet, as we know it today, would not exist without the ARPA Net, which was created specifically by the US Department of Defense (Advanced Research Projects Agency) to link government-associated research groups, both civilian and military, to computing and data resources. ARPA only came into existence because of the US government not wishing to be left behind after the Soviet Union launched Sputnik; therefore, although not a direct result of the Apollo program itself, the Internet does indirectly owe its existence to the nationwide coordination of scientists, engineers, and government/military personnel that Apollo required to succeed.

I assume you have also, for example, used Google Maps at some point? Satellite imagery and the Global Positioning System only exist as they do today because of the Gemini program--which was the preparatory "test bed" for the technologies used in the subsequent Apollo program. Major developments in materials science (plastics, metallurgy, ergonomics) also owe their start to experiments and knowledge gained as a result of the successful Apollo missions--both the actual lunar landings and the prior missions.

Even beyond the clear, direct, applied results that we can point to from the Apollo program and its siblings, there is one simple fact: The number of Ph.D.s awarded in the United States in the years following Kennedy's 1961 speech tripled. Apollo didn't just give us new technology: it challenged us to be better educated, to be cleverer. And it acted as an enormous inspiration to generations of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs who grew up during and after humanity touched the heavens.

As this post from NASA (written by the first geologist employed there) says, calling the indirect results of the Apollo program "spinoffs" is almost an insult to how pervasive and important these things have been for our modern lives. Your phone, your computer, your gaming consoles (and video games), your presence on an internet community, your access to and use of digital art...every single one of these things owes an enormous debt to the fact that the United States had the utterly insane "goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth." Kennedy fundamentally understood what he was calling for--politically, scientifically, and socially. The benefits of investigating space, of facing the incredible challenges posed by that vast frontier, do not stop at the end of a successful mission, at the end of a successful program, at the end of a successful career. They live on. They live on and grow and plant their own new seeds, which in turn flower and spread the seed of development yet further. Knowledge, tested in the crucible of danger, becomes the platform of tomorrow's opportunity.

Does this mean I think it is practical to colonize Mars in the near future? No. It is far from practical: it is hardly better than a fantasy today. But so was going to the moon, and doing the other things in that decade. We did it then. We could do it again.

And in response to the "we should save our planet instead": considering how important the Internet is, and will be, for any effort that would address current Earth issues, who's to say Mars colonization and its ripple-out effects wouldn't have a similar effect? We need to learn how to use resources differently. We need to learn how to live off the land, how to make what we have work faster, better, lighter, cheaper, simpler. Anyone trying to live on Mars indefinitely, rather than carrying everything they need with them, will have the same requirements. Trying to alter or improve the Martian environment to meet human needs will be doing something very similar to what someone on Earth would be doing, in trying to change atmospheric chemistry. Travelling to Mars safely will require enormous amounts of available energy--perhaps in the form of fusion power, which, if it can be made practical, would help us reduce or eliminate our dependence on coal-based power (which is more of a problem than transportation generally, and much more of a problem than the emissions of regular cars vs. highway/long-distance transport vehicles e.g. semi-trucks and coal-powered trains).

  18. He was a bad President. He was also an underrated President. On the one hand, he embodies the corruption of politicians which is why I'm a monarchist, but on the other hand, normalizing relations with China was a big fucking deal. He was a complex man who doesn't deserve all the hate he gets.

While our reactions to the corruption of politicians may be different, I pretty much agree with your assessment of Nixon. He accomplished a lot of good while in office, stuff that had lasting benefits for many nations, not just the US (though, admittedly, some problems for the common man--better relations with China paved the way for manufacturing jobs to get shifted there). But he also permanently soured the relationship between the President and the People; pretty much everyone I know who was able to vote at the time has explicitly told me, at one time or another, that Nixon is THE reason people don't trust the government anymore. So, in a sense, he carries some small portion of the blame for *all* distrust of the US government by its own people. That's a stain that I don't think any president could recover from.

A big, big part of it is simply that Nixon is the only president to have resigned the office in disgrace. That leaves a lasting mark. If he hadn't bowed to the political and social pressure, he would have been impeached and *very* likely been the only president ever to be ejected from office. Being the pioneer of a Distinctly Bad Thing--especially when it's the final political legacy you leave--tends to sour history's perception of you. There are monarchs in history who have had a similarly bad reputation due to bad or nefarious personal conduct despite more or less competent, even laudable, political accomplishments. King John of England is probably the poster child. He seriously and positively reformed the British judicial system, was a competent diplomat and pursued creative (if unpopular) economic reforms, and was a fairly able general when he had sufficient resources to work with. Yet as a person, he was considered cruel, avaricious, lustful, unpious (or even blasphemous), violent, petty....basically a Very Unpleasant Guy. So, despite being a halfway decent monarch, he is mostly remembered as Bad King John, the king for whom no other has taken the name because he was SO bad, in contrast to his brother, King Richard the Lionheart, who is usually well-liked despite being not much better of a person (and probably much worse as a statesman).

I'm also reminded of how people tend to view the more prominent Consuls and principes ("Emperors," as we call them today) of Rome. Like the Romans, we have an almost hero-worshipping attitude toward those few, rare leaders who held great power but used it sparingly and carefully. Cincinnatus is almost a mythic figure in that regard, as is Marcus Aurelius to a lesser extent. The two best-loved of all presidents--George Washington and Abraham Lincoln--are almost without fail compared, favorably, to that standard. Washington declined kingship and established the precedent of serving only two terms.Lincoln's anti-retributive response to the rebellious southern states is often held up as an example of peerless statesmanship. (Same goes for Gen. Grant's profoundly generous terms of surrender negotiated with Gen. Lee at Appomattox Court House.)

But if Lincoln had died in the middle of a vicious political scandal? His great deeds prior would have been tarnished. Such is the way of political failure: your final acts almost invariably become the luster or patina that coats all the things you had done before. Should they be greatly disgraceful, they can weaken or overcome even the greatest achievements.

  19. Start off by getting a Reeking Box. Pick a nice place to open it so you get a good group of enemies. Before killing them all make sure the two sparkling spaces have been activated. Sell the bullions and unwanted items for gold.

This is a little luck based but it pays off.

If you couple it with using only units that have Despoil and 50+ Lck after pair-up (or Leif's Blade, AT, and 50+ Lck)), it's actually quite feasible to earn money, it's just slow.

Assume a map with at least 12 units (not hard to reach). I find that, typically speaking, every map after that point gives 3 S Boullion , plus weapon/item drops. If all of your fighting units have a 50% chance to generate a bullion from kills, as recommended above, then you have something like a 92% chance to get *at least* 3 bullion for killing 12 enemies, according to the binomial distribution, and you have an expected value of 6 (50% of 12 kills). So, every run should generate ~9k gold on average, or a profit of 4200 per map *after* accounting for the cost of replacing the Reeking Box you used. If you're lucky, you have a chance to get slightly above average returns, which lets you buy multiple new Reeking Boxes.

Although I haven't run things on higher than Normal yet (I play relatively slowly and infrequently, so the greater challenge hasn't been worth pursuing--yet), I find Owain's recruitment paralogue to work well for grinding. It's a Goldilocks zone of size, layout, ease of reaching the event tiles, and enemy numbers/gold drop. And since you're practically guaranteed (over 99% chance, even at only 45 Lck) to get at least 2 bullion from Despoil/Leif's Blade, you (nearly) always turn a profit, even if it's a small one. If you can find a map that usually/always generates 4 bullion per run, even better--you can easily double your investment with an average run, and the more times you do it, the closer (percentage-wise) you'll be to that average. (Thank you, Central Limit Theorem!)

  20. Well you seems to have reached little over the half way mark of the story. If you feel hesitant to restart from scratch at least at least finish the main story and then do another run albeit this time around more of a "perfect run". That would I have done if I come to realization that I missed several potential characters. My first run three of my guys died since I didn't know soft reset was a thing. However, if you want a "perfect run" from start to finish then I suggest make a new save file and start over.

This is more or less my thought as well. OP: You've gotten quite far, I'd see your first file through to the end and then create a new file. Consider it an opportunity to see a whole new set of support conversations! Especially if you create an Avatar of the opposite gender--that alone will give you dozens of new support conversations. Plus, if doing a truly 'perfect' run appeals to you, you'll benefit from being able to ask for pairing advice on the new file.

I completely understand the impulse to restart, but I think you'll have more fun overall if you stick with it for the remaining missions and then come at it with more experienced eyes. Plus--not to give too much detail, but--there's an important choice you make near the end of the game. This way, you'll get to try more than one path with that choice!

  21. I think the main issue with Sil3nt 4sh's set was Luna. I think the main reason is that I don't tend to actually use Luna that much. I think I'll probably mention that Vaike!Brady is going to be both a front and support unit (i.e he leads one attack killing/defeating the enemy then switching to Gregor!Severa to let her score a kill) I'm not sure what sort of set up would work for that...

Luna is super good against things with high Def/Res--better than Astra. Its strength is that it provides *scaled* defense piercing, so that the tougher your enemy, the harder you hit with it. Against typical non-Apo enemies, though, Astra is often better--but if a unit is going to lead the attack, some kind of proc is better than no procs at all, generally speaking.

For a set where you're going to have the two spend very roughly equal time in front (by which I mean "Severa attacks, then Brady attacks, then Severa attacks again"), Sil3nt 4sh's set is fine. It's mostly passive stuff, and having a chance to proc Luna 1/round is fairly worth the slot.

  22. Any suggestions for a skillset for Vaike!Brady @dread fighter? He will be paired with Gregor!Severa @Hero. I am thinking that both will have galeforce at the very least.

I'll second Sil3nt 4sh's set, it looks solid. The only thing I might argue different would be that Luna does nothing if Brady spends all his time in the back--so if you find that you aren't attacking with him directly very often, consider swapping Luna for Dual Guard+.

I'm going +Strength/-Defense and I'm going to marry Olivia. Chrom and Sumia will be paired together. I don't want to miss out on the second character and having access to all classes is nice.

Alright, that takes care of several pairings. Baseline advice at this point then, in addition to Robin/Olivia and Chrom/Sumia:

Donnel/Sully: As stated, Donnel!Kjelle gets Galeforce, and despite Donnel's weakness as a dad she comes out just fine.

Gaius/Tharja: Same as above, gives Noire GF, but Gaius!Noire is decent stat- and class-wise as well (3 new class lines, +6 Skl and Spd cap!)

Lon'qu/Cordelia: Lon'qu!Severa is solid, with a nice spread of classes and options.

Ricken/Miriel: This makes Laurent the best damn mage he can be, and gets him decent skills (Have Miriel pass down Dual Support+)

Gregor/Cherche: Gregor!Gerome has access to the Berserker class, which is a big plus.

Virion/Panne: Virion!Yarne gets Hit+20 and access to the Wyvern Rider line.

Stahl/Lissa: Stahl!Owain is solid all around, esp. if you want to keep him as a Dread Fighter.

Vaike/Nowi: Vaike!Nah has solid Str, access to Luna and Hero. It'll work out well.

Henry/Maribelle: Second-best Mag bonus, and much, much better class options than the alternative (Libra).

Though it goes without saying, all boys that can get Galeforce from mom should. That *should* cover all the kids (4 kids in the two pairings you've chosen, plus 9 more, gives us the 13 total children).

As always, I defer to the more-experienced members here; this list was mostly compiled by reviewing advice previously given to me when I asked a similar question, with slight tweaks (because I had F!Robin marry Chrom).

  23. So I just unlocked Lunatic+ classic and I'm planning on doing a run. I had done a vanilla lunatic run on casual and classic, both runs had me solo with F!MU and Chrom and just getting Morgan. I have the bloodlines pack and rogues pack as well as the golden gaffie and exponential growth. I want to use the children and want to know what are the best possible pairings for them, as well as the skills and classes to take. Should I use F!MU this run or M!MU and what asset/flaw if you are getting MU!'s children?

I don't have any knowledge about optimizing pairings and don't have the final dlc.

Unfortunately, for some of this, there is no clear answer. That is, most children have multiple possible applications/uses, so the spread of possible options is too great to cover all in one fell swoop. However, there are a few things I can recommend/note from the outset that will help narrow things down:

    1. Getting Galeforce on as many kids as possible is useful--it gives you greater flexibility. In general, this means you need to marry dads who pass down Pegasus Knight (Gaius and Donnel) to moms who don't (Tharja, Sully, and Nowi). Generally, the preferred choice is Gaius/Tharja and Sully/Donnel, as Gaius!Noire's strengths compliment her Archer/Sniper role, while Donnel's weaknesses as a father don't harm Kjelle's growth. Nah is, unfortunately, a little too limited to justify giving her Galeforce, so she gets relegated to a support role of some kind.

    2. Certain dads are Not Very Good and you want to avoid using them if you can. Kellam is almost always at the top of the list, but Frederick, Donnel, and Libra are also up there. But you'll need to use all but one of them for most children, so a degree of mitigating the negatives (or, rather, settling for second-best) is required.

    3. Some parents have restricted options. Chrom can only marry four ladies (+FeMU); Sumia can only marry four men (+MaMU). So you need to decide who they're going to marry first, lest you use up all their options.

    4. The Avatar is always the best parent for any child, straight up. The ability to choose your own asset/flaw combined with giving ALL gender-allowed classes is incomparable. So, you need to decide this based more on personal preference than anything else--and it may have trickle-down effects on other pairings. For example, if you go MaMu and have him marry Olivia, whoever would've married Olivia can go to someone else.

    5. Think about what kind of unit(s) you want the Avatar's children to be. If you want a Mag-heavy unit like Sage, Sorcerer, or Dark Flier, take Mag as your Asset. If you want a physical attacker, take +Str. In general, the most frequently recommended asset/flaw pairs in no particular order are +Mag/-Def, +Str/-Def, and +Spd/-Def. -Def is almost always the recommended Flaw, because Awakening is an offense-heavy game and it reduces only one stat that affects offense (Lck) by a single point. +Mag and +Str are fairly straightforward; +Spd is to make doubly sure that Morgan (and Morgan's sibling, should the Avatar have another child) can double enemies, and also turns the small Lck penalty to a small bonus.

    6. Some dads give their kids *zero* classes, and many dads have substantial class overlap with their children, which is somewhat wasteful. Sometimes that's not avoidable--e.g. if you want to make the BEST use of Ricken's major Mag boost, you probably need to marry him to someone who would have at least one class in common with him. Other times, it's completely avoidable, and you'll be doing yourself a major favor if you avoid overlap where possible. (For checking on these things, I make use of both of the Fire Emblem wikis: http://fireemblem.wikia.com/ and http://fireemblemwiki.org/ because they're organized differently. The first is better for quick comparison of the stats and classes children can inherit; the latter is better for planning out skill builds once you've already chosen your pairs.)

So, given those things, you'll want to make a few decisions:

    • What kind of Avatar+children do you want? Physical (+Str), magic (+Mag), or generalist (+Spd)?
    • Do you want Morgan to be a "third gen" character? (This concentrates modifiers even more, but you miss out on a second char with access to all classes)
    • Who will Chrom and Sumia marry? (Usual advice is Chrom/Sumia, unless the Avatar marries one of them)
    • Who will Sully and Tharja marry? (Typical advice: Sully marries Donnel, Tharja marries Gaius)
    • Do you have any specific thoughts about what certain children should be?

Answering those questions will get you a long way toward focusing the MANY options available to you into a handful of strategies that you can select from.

  24. Ouch, my bad on the spelling thing. It always gives me a twinge when people misspell my name or username, so I really shouldn't be making those sorts of mistakes myself. Thanks for being understanding!

Sol is adequate while grinding, but if you really want regen, Lifetaker is where it's at. That is, if Galeforce is doing its job, you're getting two kills a round with Severa. Lifetaker gives 50% of max HP for every kill, guaranteed, while Sol only gives Skl% chance of healing half the damage you deal. Also, Sol has higher priority than Vengeance, so even if you do get her to 100% Vengeance proc rate, Sol would override it Skl% of the time (healing you without doing any extra damage). So while Sol will be fine to start with, definitely try to replace it with Lifetaker before the end--you'll notice the difference.

  25. To be frank, Armshrift is in no way a bad skill at all. But when it comes to making use with the 5 available skill-slots, I just don't see Armshrift as a priority besides Limit Breaker.

Also, another skill worth supplementing for -faire is All Stats + 2. Otherwise, its up to you.

Oh, no certainly AT is nowhere near as good as LB, full stop. I included it in my "final picks when you're looking for one more skill" section for a reason. That said, your set and mine, once I factored in LB, were only different in that you used Lifetaker while I used Armsthrift. Lifetaker is great for healing, but gives exactly as much offensive boost as AT: zero.

All+2 is definitely worth looking at for some characters, but it's vastly inferior to LB. If it gets you over a breakpoint (I believe 69 Spd is one such point?) then it's awesome, better than a Faire by far. But if it doesn't push you past a new breakpoint, it's kind of a meager benefit. Since I don't think Chloe is going to be running deep calculations or heavy optimization, I figured All+2 is probably too fiddly to recommend.

Chrom and Female Robin are the best pair-up. They have hilarious, meaningless supports and meaningful conversations in-story. Robin is naturally going to feel attracted to him, as far as she can remember, Chrom was the first person she ever saw. They are a power couple who can easily defeat any enemy when together. Their children are even more powerful. Morgan looks great with blue hair and Lucina is an awesome sister for him.

Yeah, their supports are...silly and don't really reflect the closeness of their friendship, I feel. You see it expressed in everything *else* Chrom and the female Avatar do: they spend nearly every waking hour together, that's bound to create a close connection even if it isn't romantic. And I completely agree that they're a power duo, regardless of whether they get married: even M!Robin and Chrom are clearly Best Buds and Fire-Forged Friends.

Blue haired Morgan is one of the main reasons that I pair F!Robin and Chrom, another being that Lucina gets every gender permitting class and can get Ignus. And I don't want to break that family appart. Funnily enough that's why I marry M!Robin to Lucina...blue haired Morgan :XD:

I don't really have a horse in the Morgan hair-color race (that was a weirder phrase than I intended...), for me it just seems imminently natural in terms of story and group dynamics. They're close friends, and unless you're intentionally avoiding the use of F!Robin, they fight together in literally every battle of two different wars. The Avatar consoles Chrom over the loss of his sister; the Avatar is there for Chrom's wedding; the Avatar's first solid interpersonal memory is Chrom's face, with Lissa nearby. Even if you don't think they're "bound by a thread of fate," they're constantly spending time around each other. As I said earlier, even Lucina notices it if she isn't F!Robin's daughter.

A friend of mine absolutely believes that M!Robin has to marry Lucina. No ifs, ands, or buts.
