I know the Switch is getting older and Sakurai is eternally brought the verge of metaphoric organ failure by the toil imposed on him by Smash, but is there any realistic chance of a Fighter Pass 3? Perhaps on a smaller scale? -Not saying I want it, I don't as a non-owner of Smash U, just pondering.

Sakurai said during the Pyra/Mythra presentation (and the subsequent Famitsu column) that there are only two characters left, so probably not since he would know by now if there's going to be more.

It's for this same reason that i don't think we'll get King Ghidorah but King Ghidorah is also too iconic so we'll see.

    • Then again, Ghidorah was the hero once. They could go the GMK route again.

Since Godzilla is being promoted as the big bad monster corrupting everything, either there's a twist where "King Ghidorah is really behind everything" or (more likely) he'll get a tease at the end of the last episode and he'll be saved for a future season. King Ghidorah was only a good guy in GMK because Anguirus and Varan weren't marketable enough, and since he's best known as Godzilla's nemesis I don't think we'll get a heroic Ghidorah again. Speaking of, I'm glad that Singular Point is giving lesser known monsters some attention.

If/when Ghidorah does show up in SP, I wouldn't mind if they went really out-there with his concept. The MonsterVerse has the peak "traditional" Ghidorah so it'd be interesting for something new next time.

On the topic of Smash, one thing I realized is that Pyra and Mythra dodged a bullet by not being the last character. The last character will inevitably get flak for not being *insert popular request here* no matter who they are, so I'm glad they avoided that baggage. I considered beforehand that XC2 might be saved for the last character if it got one (like Byleth), but Pyra and Mythra were announced now so that wasn't an issue.

Looking real good. And I'm seeing even more obscure Kaiju that haven't really been featured outside of their debut films.

The OP bangs based on the sample in the trailer.

But I will say that Godzilla Ultima (the official name they've given this incarnation) is probably the weirdest Godzilla design we've had, which is saying a lot considering we live in a post-Shin Godzilla world.

    @Lightchao42 thoughts?

It's nice to see more returning monsters, and I like the more "out-there" monster designs since they aren't constrained by live action.

Besides Manda and Hedorah being confirmed, there seems to be various Kamacuras/Kumonga/Gigan/Megalon looking insects. Could there be some fusion/mutation going on? It's also worth noting that all the kaiju so far appear to be from the Showa era.

I definitely don't see the Arthur nor Sophia Spirits are in the game as of right now yet.

You need to have data for Persona 5 Strikers and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection to get those spirits at the moment, but they'll be available for everyone else later.

Since Challenger Pack 10 and 11 are the only two remaining spots left as of right now. Does anyone think we could might see Challenger Pack 10 somewhere shows announced at late April or maybe May and Challenger Pack 11 be at the announcement for E3 2021 or we pretty might see Challenger Pack 10 at E3 2021 announcement and Challenger Pack 11 be somewhere at after E3 2021 is over in a couple more months later?

I'd guess that CP10 would be released in June around E3 time, but I don't think E3 is happening this year so they could be announced earlier. Generally there's only been a gap of two to three months between DLC characters, so I expect the last character to be released in September at latest. There are only two characters left so I don't think we'll get both of them announced at once.

Yeah, that's something I didn't fully get: Why's she not an echo? There's a fair bit of move overlap, though definitely less so than some of the echos we do have in fairness.

The official reason is that her proportions are too different from Villager's, but I think the actual reason is that she's too marketable to "just" be an echo. I doubt many people would've complained if she was an echo in any case.

    17 minutes ago, Armagon said:

    Even though it's dubbed.

Since I assume you watched the Japanese versions... did you ever see the scenes where Godzilla and Anguirus talk?

  6. It's a shame that Steve can't mine Core Crystals out of Azurda (that's not a sentence I thought I would ever say) and use one to summon KOS-MOS, and here I thought Sakurai had an attention to detail.

Incineroar is a wrestler, which is something that makes it unique at least. Isabelle is just half Villager and half leftover ideas that Villager didn't use, so her moveset doesn't feel like it belongs to her. She would be more interesting if they leaned more into her attacking opponents accidentally by being clumsy or careless.

Yeah, I should have combined run speed and air speed, since both are essential.

I can say that she isnt as fast as Roy, air speed included.

    44 minutes ago, Armagon said:

Mythra's air speed is still good tho.

    She's probably close tho.

Mythra has the fifth fastest dash speed (behind Sonic, Captain Falcon, Little Mac, and Sheik) and the eleventh fastest air speed. Conversely, Pyra has the sixth slowest dash speed (ahead of Mii Gunner, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Robin, and Incineroar), while her air speed is tied with Joker's for 37th place.

Both of them are middleweights, though Mythra is slightly lighter. The jury's still out on if Pyra is heavier than Tora though.

Tfw you watch a trailer new XB2 expansion with new Story and gameplay, with a focus on Brighid and someone else as MC and it all taking place before TtGC...

Tfw you react online, XB fanbase in huge cheer, get ready to download it and then...

You wake up from your nap

If it makes you feel better, Pyra and Mythra being in Smash is basically a Xenoblade 2 expansion.

    Wot?

Poppi's menu has a section for using ether crystals to create parts for her. You can also sell parts you don't need to get more crystals. The item needed for making Tank Mod III (Artificial Blade Report) can be found at a location visited at the end of Chapter 4.

On the bright side, you might have done enough grinding to make Poppi ridiculously powerful.

  9. 24 minutes ago, Benice said:

You know, I wish you got a currency from playing Tiger! Tiger! (Poppi Points?) and used those to buy the parts rather than replay it with the chance to get it.

Heck, or have both to remove frustration for people with bad luck.

Actually you can do that, though you might not be able to make a Tank Mod III yet at the point in the game you're at.

  10. Spoiler

    71pgkn6s14l61.png

Extensive scientific research shows that this is the last image the human brain creates at the point of death. Could this be God herself?

(I was expecting this to just be a polished version of the concept art, but this is brand new! What a pleasant surprise.)

The update also sneakily added two non-Xenoblade spirits: Sophia from Persona 5 Strikers and Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins. They're available early if you get their games but will be released for everyone else later (like Partner Pikachu and Eevee way back during launch, and the Tockles for Dragon Quest XI).

  11. 43 minutes ago, Armagon said:

I think it's more surprising that Xenoblade X just goes completely unacknowledged. No songs, no mii costumes, just a few Spirits.

Well I'm not surprised about it, per se, but it is unfortunate.

Since it came up in the presentation, I'm glad Pyra and Mythra have a unique victory theme since it wouldn't make sense for them to use You Will Know Our Names like Shulk does. But that reminded me of something else: Robin, Lucina, and Chrom have a unique victory theme that's remixed from Id (Purpose), which bugs me for a few reasons:

    • It's specifically Robin's theme, so why do Lucina and Chrom get it?
    • Relatedly, Awakening mostly uses the usual Fire Emblem theme, so the Awakening characters don't really need their own. Corrin and Byleth's games have their own main themes (Lost in Thoughts and Edge of Dawn), so they have a good reason for having their own victory themes.
    • Ganondorf still uses the same victory theme as the other Zelda characters, which is a much bigger issue than his moveset being based on Captain Falcon's. He should get his own evil theme. Sakurai bias strikes yet again.

Thank you for letting me ramble about an irrelevant topic.

  12. I got my vaccine at a horse racetrack today, which must have something to do with Smash since we're getting a new character today. I predict the next character will be either Johnny Joestar or a Fire Emblem cavalier.

We got sixteen XC2 songs, which is a very good amount since only Terry and Min Min got more. I don't have much to complain about aside from the lack of Drifting Soul...

    Spoiler

...though it is odd that we got Amalthus's battle theme, but not The Power of Jin or Song of Giga Rosa.

The Spirit lineup is... fine, though it's interesting that we got two (technically three) new Legend spirits, which is a first for DLC. I think Pyra and Mythra's alts are aesthetically pleasing even if they're not all references, though some think one of Mythra's alts is a reference to Xenogears. The lack of a KOS-MOS alt is surprising, in fact it's weird that KOS-MOS didn't get anything at all despite being Monolith's sort-of mascot.

I haven't played Yakuza, but Majima is playable in Project X Zone 2 and he seems pretty cool there.

I'm gonna need fanart of this.

    Xenoblade 2 Avengers.

    Based on the voice actors...

    • Jin would be Iron Man
    • Wulfric would be Thor
    • The King of Torna would be Doctor Strange
    • Gorg would be Rocket Raccoon
    • Perceval would be Star-Lord
    • Dagas would be Ant-Man and Hawkeye
    • Pandoria would be Spider-Gwen

...and probably more than that. Even the great David Menkin is in it, though I don't know who he voices.

  14. 19 minutes ago, Armagon said:

I think that the Driver/Blade mechanic ultimately proved too complicated to implement.

Yeah that's what I think, and Pyra/Mythra were made playable instead because most of Rex's uniqueness comes from them. They seem to play basically as I hoped Rex would, so I think it was a good decision.

    19 minutes ago, Armagon said:

I just wish these newer ones weren't voiced. The charm of the Lego games was that nobody talked.

I think it was fine for Lego Batman 2 and the Lego Marvels because they weren't adaptations of anything, but it's rather pointless if they're just going to lift dialogue straight from the movies.

Speaking of which, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 happens to share most of its voice cast with Xenoblade 2 (both use American actors in the UK, and both games had their voice recording done around the same time), so it's funny to hear Wasp sound exactly like Pyra (among other examples). I've been tempted to get it just for that.

  15. 6 hours ago, Armagon said:

This is good, glad you're getting it.

Thanks. But it's a shame I won't be able to play as Pyra and Mythra all day.

Anyway, last minute presentation predictions/wishlist go!

    Spoiler

Outside Pyra and Mythra's spirits, XC2 currently has six spirits (Rex, Nia, Tora, Mòrag, Zeke, and Poppi α). Here's some that would make sense:

    • Dromarch, Brighid, and Pandoria (though their spirit battles might be considered redundant with their Drivers)
    • Poppi QT that enhances into QTπ
    • Akhos, Patroka, and Mikhail as a shared spirit
    • Jin though he won't be represented by Sephiroth
    • Amalthus
    • Lora
    • Addam
    • The legend spirit will be either KOS-MOS or Malos (Coffee with Milk probably won't happen because she doesn't have full artwork, though it would be nice if they made her some).
    • I don't expect any non-plot important Blades outside maybe KOS-MOS.

Min Min came with 18 ARMS songs so hopefully XC2 gets a good amount. Byleth only came with eleven, though FE already had over 40 songs when he was added. Besides the battle themes, hopefully we'll get remixes (Hero is the only character that didn't come with any) and a Drifting Soul remix.

For Mii outfits, KOS-MOS had a good chance of showing up as a Gunner, and Lora would fit the Brawler moveset well. Lloyd would continue the trend of the previous game's DLC outfits coming back. Elma could get one if they want to represent every Xenoblade protagonist and there are several swordfighter candidates (Jin, Mòrag, Zeke, etc.). And a few will likely be completely unrelated to Xenoblade. Could Fei get in as a brawler? Probably not.

Miscellaneous time! Pyra and Mythra's fighter spirits will use the artwork from their GoodSmile figures. We oddly haven't seen their alts yet, but who knows if there will be anything special with them (Gormotti cloaks? Coffee with Milk alts?). Sakurai will gush about the game and make some comment about good boys and girls again. He'll also explain why Rex isn't playable, though I don't think it will have anything do with him having a Mii costume already.

And that was honestly my reason for not watching them before. Well that and I always seemed to take naps right before they air so I just sleep through them haha.

    But Xenoblade bias hits different.

It’s not about chat, it’s about the principle! I asked to start work later than usual so I could watch it live, but it turns out I’m getting a vaccine tomorrow so I have the day off anyway. And now I have more time for them if they do release tomorrow, so things turned out rather conveniently in the end.

  17. The announcement tweet said that PyMy's release date would be revealed in the presentation, which I thought would be strange to mention separately if they're releasing the same day. But if we're getting the alert now then there's a decent chance they're releasing on the 4th. I think Terry's presentation was in the morning and he released right after, or am I wrong?

Also, this week's tournament is for Pokémon's 25th anniversary.

  18. Looking through a list of Xenoblade 2's unused content, I was reminded that Jin's sword is internally called Masamune (Malos's weapon is named Thanatos, if you were wondering).

Which reminded me of something else: since DLC characters don't appear in each other's Spirit Boards, Jin won't be represented by Sephiroth in his spirit battle. What a sad day...
