  1. As for my Switch review:

    • Is a Core Gamer
    • Played 600 hours in 2020 (508 in 2019)
    • Played 22 games (14 in 2019)
    • Most played games were (in order) Dragon Quest XI, Xenoblade DE, Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy VII, and Okami HD
    • (Most played in 2019 were Three Houses, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Xenoblade 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and Octopath Traveler)
    • Most active day was May 14, during which I mostly played FFVII (most active day in 2019 was July 31, during which I played Three Houses)
    • Most active month was February (111 hours), during which I played Astral Chain, Luigi's Mansion 3, Three Houses (mainly Cindered Shadows), and Dragon Quest XI
    • Runner up months were May (Animal Crossing, FFVII, and DQXI), June (Xenoblade), and July (more Xenoblade and Okami)
    • Least active month was August (5 hours), during which I apparently only played Smash once and AC for a few hours. What else did I do that month? Maybe I was playing Ace Attorney instead.
    • 508 Gold Points earned
    • Recommended titles are Skyrim, Tales of Vesperia, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party, and Ring Fit Adventure
    • ...And I played one Mario game.

As an aside, the last screenshot I took during 2019 was Mythra saying "A simpleton?" while the first of 2020 was toppling Tyrannotitan Kurodil.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is good but how the hell is it one of my most played this year? Either this is exclusively for games i bought this year or Nintendo is trippin' because i know i played Xenoblade 2 for much longer than VC4.

Did you play Xenoblade 2 on a different profile? That might be the reason (and thinking about it, it's probably the reason why it's not one of my most played games either).

  2. With version 10.1.0 out, the full FF Spirit Board is:

    • Tifa (Ace, Mii Brawler)
    • Barret (Advanced, Mii Gunner and three Brawlers)
    • Aerith (Ace, Zelda and Cloud)
    • Red XIII (Advanced, Duck Hunt)
    • Cait Sith (Novice, Roy Koopa and three Mr. Game & Watches)
    • Cid (Novice, Link)
    • Vincent (Advanced, Wolf)
    • Yuffie (Advanced, Sheik)
    • Chocobo & Moogle (Novice, Mii Brawler and Kirby)
    • Ifrit (Ace, Bowser)
    • Shiva (Ace, Zero Suit Samus)
    • Bahamut ZERO (Legend, Giant Ridley)
    • The Turks & Rufus Shinra (Ace, Robin, two Mii Gunners, one Brawler, and one Swordfighter)

Also, Cloud's spirit now uses his original FFVII artwork, though his AC costume still uses his Ultimate artwork.

Oh, I thought they came out next month... I must have missed that, then!

Edit: looking on their site, its next month, right?

    Edit again: crap, its June.

June is when they release, but I doubt you'll be able to get them if you didn't preorder them last month. Unless there are some factors about anime figures that I'm unaware of, that is, but I suppose there's an unlikely chance that more preorders will open later.

@Armagon I have a question: are you keeping track of the re releases of Pyra/Mythra's goodsmile figures? If so, would you mind pinging me in a post to let me know when they come out? I'm not always attentive to that kind of thing and I REALLY dont want to miss them! If it's too much to ask, that's okay.

If you were planning on getting them from AmiAmi, I think preorders closed last month (Pyra/Mythra). I thought I recalled you mentioning that preorders opened "tomorrow" a while ago so I assumed you knew about it already. It seems KOS-MOS's figure is still available though.

Is that a leak screenshot of what the actual Sephiroth's Spirit Board looks like or did you photoshop it to make it what your vision of what Sephiroth's Spirit Board might look before we see in Patch 10.0.1 update comes on December 22nd? I do think the Avalanche Trio (Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie) might show up in the Spirit Board since the Remake managed to flesh out more likeable than the original handled along with Rufus and the Turks in there as well.

    It's from a press release.

  6. I played Mercutio when my class went over Romeo and Juliet, which turned out to be a role I was born to play. Unfortunately I went on vacation so I couldn't perform his death scene.

I also played the titular character of Julius Caesar, and was mildly disappointed when it turned out he wasn't the main character.

  7. Sephiroth looks good, and I'm glad we have a decent number of FF songs and Spirits now. They're restricted to FFVII, granted, but it's better than what we had before.

    rQHzfVGl.jpg

Spirits not shown here include Chocobo & Moogle, Shiva, and the Turks & Rufus, and there should also be a Legend spirit we don't know about yet.

Lastly, Sephiroth is available early if you bought his DLC pack/the Fighters Pass already, though he won't officially release until December 22. He comes with his stage and music but not the spirits, so we'll have to wait for those.

It's a joke about the current cast in Spider-Man 3. If you haven't heard, the next MCU Spider-Man movie is pretty much gonna be live-action Spider-Verse since we have confirmation that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are set to come back, reprising their respective roles as Spider-Man. In addition, some of the villains from both movie franchises are also coming back, being reprised by their actors. And today, we got confirmation that Green Goblin and Sandman from the Sam Raimi trilogy is also gonna be in the movie.

Either this movie's three hours long or it's bloated as fuck but I'm intrigued either way.

So basically, it's the live action Spider-Man equivalent of

    smash-bros-5-everyone-is-here-snake.jpg

If they are bringing in a collection of previous Spider-Man villains, it would be strange if Venom was left out. Hopefully he'll be included in some way.

If you ask me, that criticism has always applied to Cloud. How does this scrawny guy wave and spin that thing around like a baton?

    Mako and Jenova cells, probably.

As one last prediction/wish, if Sephiroth's victory theme is derived from One-Winged Angel, I hope the announcer's "The winner is... Sephiroth!" syncs up with when his name is said in the song. Details like that make the game feel more special.

There is one instance where you need Electric Mastery 5 I think. And the one Electric Blade the story gives you is Pandoria, who only has a max of Lv.3 Electric Mastery. So depending, you'll need to pull 2-4 Electric Blades. As far as garuanteed Rare Blades go, I think Herald has Electric Mastery so there is a free Electric Blade you can get, so that's worth noting. Vess might also have it, I don't remember.

And that's the only time where you need to crack open Core Crystals to pass a Field Skill check. Any other mandatory Field Skill checks can be cleared both through Blades the story gives you and garuanteed Rare Blades.

Part of the reason I asked is because I remembered that there are some field checks in Elpys that I had trouble with on my first playthrough. After looking it up, I found you only need Keen Eye 2 and Ancient Wisdom 2 for one, which only needs Brighid and Dromarch, and Fire Mastery 3 and Wind Mastery 2 for another, which only needs Brighid and Roc. It could be troublesome if you didn't go out of your way to fill out their Affinity Charts though.

Assuming we're thinking of the same instance, you only need Electric Mastery 4 (and Focus 5) for it, which Pandoria can't get on her own. Vess does not have Electric Mastery, and since Herald is easily missed on a first playthrough you'll probably need to summon for that one.

  11. Chuggaaconroy didn't fight Jin on the day of Sephiroth's presentation, literally unplayable.

Speaking of, I tried to get a Full Burst on Aeshma's Core to see if I could defeat it before I'm supposed to. While I got seven orbs on it (all elements except Dark), it heals in-between attacks so you can't defeat it that way; maybe you'd have a better chance if you're overleveled? It might just be invincible even if you somehow find a way to get its health to zero.

@Armagon since you completed a mostly summonless run of XC2, do you remember what random Blades you needed for mandatory field skills? I don't think there were a lot, but I'd like to know for the next time I see someone complain about how many Field Skills you "need" to finish the game.

Lastly, happy birthday @lightcosmo! Assuming it's still your birthday in your timezone.

  12. Arundel/Thales seems pretty confident that Nemesis doesn't have any descendants, which gives me an idea: if Nemesis did have any children, TWSITD hunted down and killed them because they don't want anyone to have the Crest of Flames outside their control.

Likewise, since we know that TWSITD had Nemesis's body in their possession, they used his blood to give Edelgard her second Crest.

Given how house Riegan is mentioned to be a cadet branch to house Blaiddyd its probably more likely than not that Riegan was Blaiddyd's younger brother.

Ashe and Hapi's support mentions a story about a member of House Blaiddyd who married into House Riegan after the Crescent Moon War, which could explain how the latter can be a cadet branch while also having its own Crest.

Besides the buffs, completing a node on XC2/Torna Affinity Charts is so worth it because of those quotes.

Anything that adds an extra bit of character is good.

I like Pyra's "Don't shout inside my head like that! Talk to me in person, why don't you?!"

Besides being rather out-of-character for her, you get the quote after Rex pulls an "and all you guys!" on calling Pyra part of his family so it appears Mythra isn't too happy about how long Rex is taking to commit.

  14. 18 minutes ago, Armagon said:

Yep. Can never hurt to have more, especially since I haven't gotten Legendary Cores from any other source at the moment.

If you need another Legendary Core, I obtained one from the chest in Olethro Ruins, and at this point you should have enough Lockpicking to open it.

Thinking about it, it's a bit strange that you're concerned about Rex having too many Wind Blades when Mòrag has three out of five Ice Blades.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Armagon said:

Since we're both doing playthroughs and seem to be roughly at the same spot in the story (I'm on Ch.6, haven't gone to Tantal yet), I think it'd be neat if we compare our Rare Blade sets.

Aside from the story Blades, Rex has Wulfric and Nim, Nia has Finch, Vess, Kora, and Gorg, and Mòrag has Kasandra and Godfrey. Did you use the Core Crystals from the expansion pass? I didn't, which is probably why you have more Blades than I do unless I'm just unlucky. In fact, it seems the only random Blades you're missing are Electra, Agate, Gorg, Dagas, Floren, and KOS-MOS (and Herald and Theory for fixed Blades). I might use the DLC cores myself once I get Zeke.

  16. 32 minutes ago, Armagon said:

Once the game decides to give me a Giant Megalance Blade that is.

Ah, so I'm not the only one.

I tried to start Kasandra's quest but it seems you can't until you get Zeke, not that it matters since I'm at Indol already. Nim's quest should be available now too unless that also requires Zeke. Besides that, Godfrey just needs level 3 affinity and some Merc Missions, Finch needs level 5 affinity (why so high?), and the rest of my Blades (Wulfric, Gorg, Kora) require a later area to be reached.

In other news, I'm surprised by how positively received Sephiroth's inclusion in Smash has been, which is saying something since this is the Smash fanbase we're talking about; he's probably the most well received DLC character since Joker. I guess it's because he was unexpected so people couldn't get tired of talking about him, but he's undeniably an icon so they can't accuse him of being a "literally who" like some other characters. People are also less hung up about Sephiroth being a second FF character or an anime swordsman than I expected them to be, and most are open to getting more characters from existing third party series (though I don't expect any more in this pass, except maybe Chun-Li or something).

We should also appreciate the fact that we live in a world where Sephiroth can engage in a legendary battle with Steve, which is nice. Maybe 2020 wasn't completely bad after all.

  17. I wonder if Sephiroth will have Heartless Angel in his moveset. It's one of his signature moves, but Smash doesn't have HP in the conventional sense so it might be hard to translate in a balanced way. Would it set the target's damage to 999%? Maybe it will be exclusive to his "wing mode". Speaking of, will his wing give him another jump?

As for what we know, Sephiroth has Shadow Flare, Scintilla, and Octaslash as special moves and Hell's Gate (the attack he did you-know-what with) as his down air. I would like for him to get Oblivion (i.e. the attack he begins his Kingdom Hearts II battle with) as a dash attack, and it would be cool if some of his moves have a "slash once but strike multiple times" effect like his attacks do in other games.

  18. If we get new FFVII spirits, and we should because Sephiroth's coming with a new Spirit Board, then I hope Cloud's Fighter Spirit gets updated with his original artwork. I assume the spirits will be using Nomura's artwork for the original game, in which case there's no reason for Cloud to not use art from his own series.

I don't think we'll get spirits outside FFVII as Joker and Hero didn't have spirits for characters outside their home games, but I'm wondering about the Mii costumes Sephiroth will come with. Chances are that Geno's reckoning will finally come, and maybe we'll get costumes for FF characters outside VII since Joker came with Persona 3 and 4 costumes.

  19. Praxis's Core Crystal is available for awakening, and I would prefer to use now to fill out her affinity chart sooner rather than later. Who should I give her core to? The last party member hasn't joined yet, so should I wait until then?

Oh yeah, Doom Eternal is finally on the Switch now too, I'll probably get it eventually since I enjoyed the previous game. Strangely enough it takes up less storage space than Doom 2016 did (17.5 GB vs. 22 GB), so it seems Panic Button got better at data compression since then.

  20. I just happened to watch the stream at the end of the trailer with "I will never be a memory" and I thought "Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 already?" But then it showed the Smash copyrights and I thought "Huh, what?" Then I went back and realized my mistake. That being said...

Honestly Sephiroth is much, much cooler than what I was expecting, and I'm not disappointed to see him in. Final Fantasy is also the first third party to get more than one unique character, and while I think people will complain that VII got another character over a character from a different FF game, Sephiroth is one of gaming's most iconic villains so I think his inclusion makes sense.

It's funny that Sakurai wanted to include One Winged Angel so badly that he added a whole character with it.
