  1. Again, everyone probably assumed that Sumeragi had an affair with Mikoto that produced Corrin between Hinoka and Takumi's births, while Sumeragi was still married to Ikona. None of the knowledgeable parties rejected this belief, probably so Corrin and Mikoto would be more easily accepted by Hoshido's population, and because Corrin's actual father didn't want anyone to know about him.

Also, I'd say that whether Ryoma "actually" knew anything or not and whether Mikoto's letter "actually" exists or not is questionable. This information only comes up in S ranks of support conversations. And every character with an S ranked support can only ever be involved in one such support per playthrough. Meaning that if character A were to S rank character B instead of character C the information in the S rank support conversation between characters A and C becomes inaccessable for the remainder of that playthrough, meaning that it doesn't exist for said playthrough. As such, I'd say that no piece of information that is only brought up in S rank conversations can be considered "universally" true and thus can not serve as an explanation, justification, ect. for anything, meaning it should not be treated as fact.

Mikoto's letter only exists because Mikoto foretold that Corrin and Hinoka/Takumi/Sakura would eventually develop unsibling-like feelings for eachother (it's suggesting that Mikoto, being a Vallite royal, inherited said ability from Anankos). It seems strange, then, that Sumeragi would somehow predict that Ryoma would eventually fall in love with his younger sister and tell him that they weren't related, but only in that one particular reality where Ryoma would eventually fall in love with his younger sister.

Doesn't one of the supports explicitly use the term 'half-siblings' when talking about the Hoshidan siblings and Corrin?

From Corrin and Sakura's S support:

Sakura: I know what you're going to say. That we're half-siblings. But...what if we weren't?

  2. When Garon married Arete, was that before or after he became Ananko's pawn? If it was after, then maybe Anankos was keeping an eye on Arete through Garon? Or she's just really pretty or something.

I thought about it some more, and we don't actually know if Polygamy is disallowed / frowned upon in Hoshido, so it could be that it's perfectly normal that Sumeragi took Mikoto as a second wife while Ikona is still married (and after Ikona died Mikoto took the role as Queen)? Though Ryoma can't S with more than one female, but maybe that's just his choice?

Leo mentions in his support with Elise that Garon "changed" after Arete's death. We don't know the circumstances behind Arete's death other than the fact that it was to "protect Nohr" (according to Azura) and she activated the "don't talk about Valla" curse, so it is possible that Garon's corruption/possession did have something to do with it.

If I recall correctly, polygamy (or concubinage, whichever's relevant) wasn't uncommon in feudal Japan. We don't know if Mikoto was "officially" a concubine, though, and all the royals we see only ever have one spouse (as Sumeragi and Garon only remarried after the deaths of their respective first wives). Since everyone except Ryoma thought that Corrin was Sumeragi's biological child, including Corrin's siblings, it is likely that Mikoto being Sumeragi's "other woman" was the common opinion even if it might not be true. No one seems to think much of it though, so it probably isn't too uncommon. And all the Hoshidans had to do was look over at Nohr and think, "Hey, at least our king didn't have children with at least eight different women." We don't actually know the exact number of children Garon had, but it is probably a similarly large number.

  3. I guess that makes sense if Sumeragi didn't marry Mikoto right away after she came to Hoshido. But it is a bit sad that if Ikona was alive at the time, it essentially means Sumeragi is cheating on his wife, even if by all accounts he's an honourable man. You can't help who you fall in love with I guess (like the Hoshidan siblings besides Ryoma, who fell in love with Corrin before finding out they're not related >_< )

I just find it weird that if you played Birthright and only got the S support with Takumi or Sakura without getting the supports with Ryoma, Hinoka or Kagero you'd never know about Mikoto not being their mom (and thus, feel like you'd still be marrying your half-sibling lol)

Even if he did cheat on Ikona with Mikoto (though there's no indication that he acted on his feelings for her before Ikona's death), Sumeragi still has nothing on Garon. I'm actually more curious as to why Garon decided to choose Arete as his second wife despite probably having a dozen concubines at the time. It's not like their marriage stopped him from having more children with other women, since Leo and Elise (among others, probably) were born after Azura was integrated into Nohr. Maybe he just has a thing for singers? Though my theory is that Arete didn't really mind his promiscuity because she mainly married him in hopes that her ties to Garon would protect her and Azura from Anankos, which obviously didn't work out.

On a non-blue haired singer related note, this thread made me realize that I like complicated plots. It's more interesting and fun to put the threads together. No wonder I like Kingdom Hearts and BlazBlue.

  4. The ancient texts straight up say (well, in dragon language) that the Hoshidan royals are all children of Sumeragi and his first wife Ikona. Since Sakura's supports with Corrin imply that she was already born when Corrin was kidnapped (namely, she heard rumors that Nohr was planning on kidnapping her instead), it can be assumed that Ikona died shortly after Sakura's birth.

As for Mikoto, Sumeragi mentions that he fell in love with her immediately, but he never says when he married her. It seems likely that he let Mikoto and Corrin live in the castle with his family, and only married Mikoto after Ikona's death.

And for the younger princesses, it seems that Sakura and Elise are around the same age, but Sakura is older by a year or so. It is also possible that Elise was born shortly before Azura was kidnapped, rather than after.

Also, does the main story ever mention that Mikoto isn't related to the Hoshidan siblings by blood, or is it only through the support with Hinoka? I find it weird that Corrin's S support with Takumi and Sakura has the letter that tells Corrin he/she isn't Sumeragi's child, but nothing about Mikoto. Is it just assumed that you know Mikoto's not their mom? (how?? where did Corrin find out that information if not for Hinoka's support? Takumi and Sakura never talk about it in their support with Corrin)

It seems to be common knowledge in-universe that Mikoto is not the mother of the Hoshidan royals, even though the player is never formally told this. From an in-story perspective, Corrin probably learned this in the period between chapters 4 and 5.

  5. Yato is Hoshidan in origin. It doesn't seem fair for Hoshido to have 3 sacred weapons while Nohr only has 2, a special axe for Camilla would've evened it out.

Garon does have his own exclusive axe (Bolverk) which fits the naming convention of the other Nohrian divine weapons, but it's never mentioned if it actually is a divine weapon or not. I don't remember what its description said, but I like to think that it is. Maybe the Rainbow Sage made weapons other than the Yato-attuned ones?

I think that Azura should've gotten a divine weapon of her own, even if it was Revelation/Valla-exclusive. She is one of the protagonists, and she can't even use B or A ranked weapons as a Songstress. Also darn IS for misleading me into thinking that the Blessed Lance was Azura's special weapon.

  6. Aaw! Takumi, honey, it's okay, you're fine just the way you are when you're not being a little dick! Just focus on destroying everything in your path and I'll make sure to pair you up with Oboro (I'd do that anyway though).

    Branch of fates:

    Defend the Sun version

    Fight for the Moon supporters

    Wait for the third version

    Buy Smash for 3DS instead

If you need to learn how to talk to a lady...

  7. Look up Winged Souls on Youtube. He has all the tracks there!! They're all super pretty.

Thanks again (and they are super pretty)! In hindsight I probably should have looked up Winged Souls in the first place, but I guess that I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to post in this thread again. Though now I can tell all of my friends that Azura's great VA answered one of my questions~

    I

Don't hate me..or tell too many people...but I haven't played the game yet. I don't have a DS so I watch play-throughs on Youtube to learn about the characters and watch the story.

You can have my old 3DS if you want...

  8. I've watched your glorious singing again and something caught my interest.

A big thank you to WingedSouls on YouTube for sending me this beautiful track...

I've been considering singing Lost in Thoughts All Alone for a chorus final, so is there any way I can get ahold of this aforementioned track? Thanks in advance! And if I can't I can always sing Let It Go again...

  9. You know, I haven't had many good experiences with Foxes lately. I mean, I liked Star Fox Assault and all, but today all the Foxes in my school just spam their up smash to win, and occasionally they'll Fox Illusion off the edge of Corneria. At least the Falcos have more variety, though the Marths and Jigglypuffs are almost as bad.

  10. If Elise ends up being trained by Felicia, the resulting destruction of Nohr might make Grima feel inadequate... Corrin better get that fire orb to level 3 and recruit Flora quickly.

Azura's lack of reaction to Corrin being launched out of the hot springs makes me wonder if such a thing happens often. It wouldn't really be out of character for Corrin at any rate.

  11. I've been enamored with Lost in Thoughts All Alone since I first heard it (which could variably be the E3 2015 trailer or Smash). Looking forward to hearing your best effort! Though of course, I'm pretty sure that it's impossible for your singing to be any less than perfect, but be sure to do your best and enjoy yourself too.

(P.S. As a singer myself, I'm also very impressed by your vocal range. When I first heard Azura's Nohrian song I wasn't sure if someone else was singing or not, though Azura was trying to hide her identity at that time so that was probably the point... Anyway, stellar performance!)

  12. I see. This must be tough.

But I need to know, how BlazBlue become one of your favorite game then?

For the "why," I like the plot. It may be hopelessly convoluted and requires Japan-only supplementary materials to fully understand, but I still like it. I like the characters too, and the series' sense of humor. Just look up "blazblue gag reels" and laugh.

But as for the "how," I actually got into it because of Fire Emblem, believe it or not. I'm not quite sure how it happened myself, but I think it was because Awakening and BlazBlue shared several voice actors. I was curious and decided to look into it, and thought that it was pretty interesting. And so, here I am, talking about how BlazBlue is one of my favorite video games despite having never played it.

  13. Eh, Shakespeare is kind of ambiguous on just how close Mercutio is to the Montagues. I was making a joke here, as Tybkumi can't possibly not say this.

Now that you mention it, does Takumi ever actually say "Nohrian scum!" in-game? I know that Hinoka does, but I'm not sure if Takumi does too, even though he's heavily associated with the line for some reason.

In any case, I've been thinking of making a set of Flora/Xander support conversations so that every child can exist if I pair Corrin and Azura together in any of my fanfics (and because Flora could use some love, darn it). I don't know why I decided to pair those two in particular, but maybe I just think that they'd be cute together or something. I already have an idea for how it should go, so I'll probably get to it later...

  14. Well, I don't know why this idea didn't occur to me before, but here it goes. What better way is there to improve Fate's writing than making the writer Shakespeare? Therefore, I give you... Corrin and Azura!

The play opens with two retainers of the Nohrian royal family, PIERI and LASLOW, patrolling the border between the two kingdoms. They are set upon by SAIZO and KAGERO, retainers of the Hoshidan royal family. Eventually, the brawl grows to a near war, with King SUMERAGI of Hoshido and King GARON of Nohr getting involved. Finally, ANANKOS, a deity, informs the nations that they'd better stop fighting, or he'll destroy them both!

Prince LEO of Nohr, who took part in the brawl, then proceeds to meet with his brother CORRIN. Corrin and Leo then meet their mutual friend SILAS, a person from neither nation. They resolve to sneak into a ball held at the Hoshidan royal palace.

In said palace, Princess AZURA of Hoshido is conversing with her mother, Queen MIKOTO. Mikoto informs Azura she is to be married to the Archduke Azama. Azura is neutral about this.

Corrin, Leo, and Silas sneak into the ball, but are noticed by the aggressive Prince TAKUMI of Hoshido. Takumi wants to challenge Corrin, but Sumeragi stops him. Corrin then meets Azura, and the two fall in love. Later that night, they declare their love for each other at a balcony outside of Azura's room. Azura then converses with her maid, FLORA, about what to do.

Corrin meets the RAINBOW SAGE for guidance. The sage suggests that a marriage between the two could end the rivalry between Hoshido and Nohr. Corrin agrees, and he and Azura are married and then have sex.

The next morning, Corrin meets Leo and Silas, but they are stopped by Takumi. Takumi tries to attack Corrin, but Silas stops him instead. Takumi then kills Silas, yelling "Nohrian scum!' as he does it. Enraged, Corrin murders Takumi.

To avoid war, Garon exiles Corrin to Cheve. Before that, though, Corrin spends one last night with Azura.

Sumeragi and Mikoto then try to cheer Azura up by informing her of her coming marriage to Azama. She protests, and Sumeragi strikes her. She then goes to the Rainbow Sage, who suggests she activate Phoenix Mode and kill herself. She does so, ands the Royal Family goes into mourning for her.

Meanwhile in Cheve, Corrin is informed that Azura has died, and rushes to Hoshido to see her; the message that she was in Phoenix Mode did not reach him. Reaching her crypt, he kills himself just as the turn ends and Azura comes back to life.

Seeing Corrin kill himself, Azura does the same. Distraught, Garon and Sumeragi bring about peace between their nations.

    Fin

So what do you all think? Should I actually do this, or not?

I don't think that Shakespeare's lawyers can go after you or anything, so I'd say go for it. I've had some sort of similar idea myself (since Romeo and Juliet is so omnipresent), but I never planned on actually writing it anyway. I'd read this, in any case, so you get the Takumi seal of approval. Of course I ship Corrin and Azura so I'm probably biased.

Also, Silas doesn't seem to be from Nohr in this version, so should Takumi be calling him "Nohrian scum"? Unless, of course, it's because Silas associates with Corrin and Leo and Takumi considers him a Nohrian as a result, so I suppose I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here.

  15. I never knew that Lost in Thoughts All Alone had Latin chanting.

Well, I may like Latin chanting, but not all of my favorite music has it. Though it makes me wonder what Lost in Thoughts All Alone would sound like with Latin lyrics...

Cynics are always a welcome addition if you ask me, do enjoy thinking about video games with the rest of us.

I'm usually only cynical about reality because seriously we're all doomed and generally not when thinking about video games, but anyway, thanks for the greeting!

  16. Ahem... gentlemen.

As you can probably tell by now, my username is Lightchao42 (referring to that wonderful pet simulation mechanic from Sonic Adventure 2). My first exposure to the FE series was, as with most, Super Smash Bros. Melee (I didn't recognize Marth or Roy, but I didn't recognize anyone except for the Mario and Pokémon characters so I didn't think much of the "Japan-only" thing). Despite this, the first game I actually bought was Awakening (what initially caught my interest was the "recruit past characters" thing [until I realized that I didn't recognize anyone aside from Marth, Roy, and Ike] and the child system). And now, three years later, here I am! I might have joined earlier, but I decided to wait until I bought and completed Fates, which I have. I have also played Blazing Sword and The Sacred Stones, but I haven't completed either.

Now that we've discussed my history with the series, here's that template so you can get a sneak preview of my colorful personality:

Online name: Lightchao42 (of course, but you can, and probably will, call me 'Light')
Real name: Why do you need to know?
    DoB: On my profile.
    Favorite FE Game: Fates
Favorite Game (other than FE): BlazBlue (despite having never played it...), Ace Attorney (actually have played it).
Favorite FE Character: Azu-nyan... er, Azura.
Least Favorite game: I'll get back to you on that...
    Sports: Walking (don't like sports)
Online friends: It's a secret to everybody...
Favorite music: Anything with Latin chanting.
    Favorite artist/band: Does Azura count?
Favorite song: Lost in Thoughts All Alone

    Country: IN AMERICA!
    MSN/Yahoo/AIM: What are those?
Hobbies: Gaming, reading, thinking about Fire Emblem and BlazBlue, contemplating the mysteries of the universe
Good Point: Creative and witty (if I do say so myself), sees the best in everything (except reality)
    Bad Point: Cynical
    Anything else? Not really

I've had too much fun typing this, so I hope that we can have some intelligent and somewhat reasonable conversations in the future! Because heaven knows that we need more of those on the Internet...
