  1. I don't have any husbandos, but I think that Shigure is gorgeous. Then again that's probably because his design is basically Male!Azura. Though I probably wouldn't have Corrin marry him because I'm not sure how comfortable Azura would be with having her best friend as her daughter-in-law...

In Conquest I had Corrin marry Kaze because I lost him in Birthright and thought that if they supported it wouldn't happen again. I was right, but Kaze doesn't suffer from a cutscene death in Conquest anyway.

  2. Also, Fluffy's a brand new ability although we still haven't seen what it does (hopefully it's better than Klutz).

    From the website:

The Fluffy Ability halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves.

Also from the website, on Bounsweet:

When running away from other Pokémon, Bounsweet flees danger by skipping along the ground. Since its bouncy movements don’t convey to others that it’s actually in desperate flight, no one ever comes to its aid.

    That poor thing.

Last but not least, that moment when you check Mudsdale's weight and realize that it's

    2028.3 lbs.

Well, sure, it is eight feet tall, but that's still heavier than everything except Mega Metagross and Groudon. At least Bewear should be able to carry it.

  3. I have no real love for Tharja either, but you're comparing someone with a genuinely good heart as pointed out in several supports to someone who is okay with massacring innocents. Camilla "being close" to someone is also arguably not portrayed as being a good thing - she infantilizes Takumi, threatens Severa and freaks out Corrin.

I'm not cherry-picking anything, I just think Tharja messing up raising Noire and being cold towards people is not as bad as being okay with murdering people.

But Camilla clearly isn't happy about killing innocents or what Garon is doing:

    [spoiler=Conquest Chapter 13]

Camilla: ... This is a truly horrid sight to behold, my darling brother/sister. I wish things could be different.

    Corrin: Camilla...

Camilla: I'm sorry, but I just found out the injured Hoshidan soldiers have already been killed. And that rebel... what was her name... Scarlet? Yes, the poor thing. They killed her in such a way... Well, they clearly meant to make an example of her.

Corrin: Gods, no... but Scarlet would have listened to us if we had just talked things out. Now we'll never have that chance... Why, Camilla? Who wants to live in a world where precious life is destroyed on a whim? Is this the world Father is building? Is this what I've been fighting for?

    Camilla: ...

Corrin: I don't understand. I can never understand. How could Father do this? Where is the justice? The respect for life? The common decency?! Tell me, Camilla...

Camilla: Corrin... I know you're upset, but we need to report back to Father. He'll be angry if we keep him waiting. I'll summon a messenger.

Corrin: Camilla! How can you be so calm at a time like this?

Camilla: I'm sorry, Corrin. I don't have the answers you're looking for. I don't know why Father makes some of the decisions he makes. I never have. I do know that even as his blood kin, he wouldn't hesitate to kill me if I disobeyed. If you value your life, as I do... bury your feelings, at least for now. I know it's hard to do that while looking around at what's happening here... But I'm afraid it's your only option. If you'll excuse me, I must hurry.

Corrin: Camilla... I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I can't accept that this is the Nohrian way. Something must be done...

The only reason that Camilla goes along with the war against Hoshido is that Garon's general philosophy as a ruler is "do what I say OR DIE" and Camilla knows that getting herself killed wouldn't really accomplish anything.

Anyway, concerning the actual topic, being a key player in the Concubine Wars has definitely left Camilla violently protective over her remaining siblings, so much so that her psyche and morality are completely warped around their wellbeing. Consequently, Camilla thinks that killing anyone who opposes Corrin is perfectly reasonable because her siblings are essentially her entire universe. Tharja, while not actually evil, is mostly just selfish and creepy. She knows when she's doing something wrong, but doesn't care. Camilla, on the other hand, fails to recognize that she's doing anything immoral as long as it appeals to her goal of protecting her family and friends.

  4. As you are probably aware, there have been plenty of threads questioning what the ages of Fates's cast are. This thread is kind of like that.

But how can we more easily compile what everyone thinks these elusive ages are? Fortunately, there is an answer! This thread contains a series of polls asking what you think everyone's age is, and these polls come in seven sensational flavors. If you're familiar with my pairing polls then this format should seem familiar, though this time Saizo and Flora are located with their twins in the shared poll:

Shared (Corrin, Azura, Felicia/Flora, Jakob, Kaze/Saizo, Silas, Mozu)

Hoshidan Bachelors (Ryoma, Takumi, Azama, Hinata, Subaki, Hayato, Kaden)

Hoshidan Bachelorettes (Hinoka, Sakura, Kagero, Setsuna, Oboro, Hana, Orochi, Rinkah)

Nohrian Bachelors (Xander, Leo, Laslow, Odin, Niles, Arthur, Benny, Keaton)

Nohrian Bachelorettes (Camilla, Elise, Peri, Selena, Beruka, Effie, Charlotte, Nyx)

Corrinsexuals (Shura, Gunter, Scarlet, Reina, Yukimura, Izana, Fuga, Anna)

Bonus Ducks (Lilith, Mikoto, Garon, Sumeragi, Arete)

To avoid an overwhelming number of polls, the children will get their own later. You don't have to, but you can post your thoughts and reasonings down below.

  5. I think the Avatar system is fine as it is mechanically.

That being said, Corrin shouldn't have been an avatar. I like Corrin as a character and they already have a defined personality and relationships with others, but they aren't allowed to build upon the character that's already there because the developers don't want Corrin to stray from being the player's self-projection, even though they really shouldn't be a self-projection in the first place. Corrin already has a place in the world and backstory as well, being the child of Mikoto and Sumeragi(?), being kidnapped from Hoshido by Nohr at a young age, and all things considered having a rather large family. This all makes it harder to swallow that this virtual character in this virtual world is supposed to represent myself. This makes me think that Corrin was originally conceived as a non-customizable lord, and only became an avatar later in development. Plus if Corrin wasn't an avatar I wouldn't have to refer to them as 'them' and 'they' all the time.

The only reason that Corrin is an avatar, really, is so the game can use "YOU'RE THE HERO" as a selling point, even if it isn't actually true; if Corrin is 'me' because I can name and customize them (though I always use the default name and appearance anyway), then by that logic Cloud Strife is also 'me' because I can name him too (in this case, it seems, Square-Enix would be perfectly justified in claiming that 'you' are the hero of Final Fantasy VII). Being able to choose Corrin's marriage partner also doesn't make them 'me' either, since Cloud can go on a date with Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, or even Barret, as dictated by the player's actions.

If the next game does have an avatar (and it probably will), then their role should be more like Robin's; Robin's personality is even more basic than Corrin's (basically 'tactical everyman'), and them being an avatar works better because Robin mostly just tags along as Chrom does everything plot important (until the end where Robin steals the plot). Robin also has no background or connections to the rest of the cast, unlike Corrin, so them being 'me' is somewhat more believable.

Abridged version: the fact that a preexisting character can be named or customized doesn't mean that they are or should be considered a self-insert.

  6. [spoiler=Even even more (partially invisible) stuff]

-There was a major conflict between Hoshido and Nohr about a century ago, which is depicted in the opening.

-Despite its isolationist tendencies, the Flame Tribe is on somewhat friendlier terms with Hoshido than Nohr, namely due to the latter's attempts to conquer it. While it doesn't send actual military aid to Hoshido, the chieftain did sent Rinkah to support them in order to help her improve her strength growth prove herself. Rinkah's first action after this alliance was to charge (Leeroy Jenkins style) at the closest Nohrian town. Kaze, who was on a recon mission in the town at the time, attempted to bail her out, but they both ended up being captured.

-Like her child, Mikoto would frequently go barefoot before she became queen of Hoshido. Unlike Corrin and Azura, though, this is a result of her forgetting to wear shoes rather than her making a conscious fashion statement.

-Mikoto originally travelled to Hoshido (without Arete's knowledge) because she was curious about her mother's homeland. She was about to leave when she met Sumeragi.

-After Arete married, most her suitors would begin to pursue Mikoto instead. Protective big sister that she is, Arete would usually scare them away. Mikoto didn't mind because she trusted Arete's judgment and she wanted to find love on her own.

-Mikoto would also help train Takumi in archery, which is one of the reasons why he was particularly close to her.

-Arete taught Azura how to cook, and she in turn taught Shigure how to cook. Corrin inherited their lack of cooking abilities from Mikoto.

-Azura has a small scar on her forehead that's hidden by her bangs.

-Izana and Fuga are friends. After the former faked his death in Revelation, he asked Fuga to help Corrin on his behalf.

-After Corrin and co. went to Valla in Revelation, Nohr and Hoshido were locked in a stalemate because most major players on both sides were either in Valla or dead.

-The Ice Tribe's culture is inspired by Scandinavia. As a side effect of their ice powers, the cold never bothered them anyway. Consequently, they don't bother bathing with hot water and hypothermia is an issue among travelers.

-The majority of members of the Ice, Flame, and Wind Tribes can manipulate their respective elements granted to them by the First Dragons. Hayato hasn't mastered his wind powers yet (not that he'll admit it).

-Cheve's culture is inspired by France while Nestra's culture is inspired by Italy.

-The Solar System in the Fates universe is the same as ours, but due to differing mythologies the planets (expect Earth, which is referred to as such because it wasn't named after a deity) are all named after the First Dragons rather than Roman deities. The Dawn Dragon, Dusk Dragon, and Anankos don't have planets named after them because they're important enough as is (and Anankos is largely obscure outside of Valla). For some weird reason, these planets are also visible from Valla.

-Hoshido's signature colors are red and white and its flower is the cherry blossom. Nohr's signature colors are black and purple and its flower is the rose (usually a black one). Finally, Valla's signature colors are blue and gray and its flower is the water lily.

-Layla was born in Cyrkensia, but one of her parents is a refugee from Valla; she is half-Nestrian and half-Vallite.

-Shortly after they returned to Hoshido, Corrin was given a ring by Mikoto. They give it to whoever they marry. The ring is a family heirloom and a treasure of Valla's royalty, though of course Corrin did not know this when they received it. The ring is made of platinum and is decorated with blue patterns and Valla's crest.

  7. You are missing minor characters from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE in your list, since TMS characters are represented in this game. You can make an argument that Maiko or Barry are without cards, and you can also make the argument of some of the sidequest characters (Ayaha, Riku, Chikaomi, etc.) or evil mirages (Garrick, etc) need an appearance as well.

I didn't include them because I hadn't played TMS when the list was made and I didn't want anything to be spoiled. I could get to making a TMS list when I end up finishing it.

  8. My rule is that all rumors are false unless backed by gameplay. It hasn't steered me wrong in the past. That being said, these rumors seem pretty safe, so they might be true by chance.

Salandit is neat. Poison/Fire is a cool type combination. There are so many neat 'mons this generation that I'm having trouble deciding what to use, and we haven't even seen all of them yet. I still haven't decided on what starter I should pick though.

  9. Yeah, these are all confirmed already. :P Tapu Koko is one of the four island guardians, and that means legendary Pokemon. Pikipek was shown to have two evolutions when it was caught at E3. I'm pretty sure I saw that Yungoos will definitely evolve once too.

Well, yeah, I only mentioned all the 'mons for completeness purposes, hence the 'which we know already' and 'like all so-and-so'. Though strictly speaking we don't know if Tapu Koko is actually a legendary or not (though it probably is). Not to mention that the Treehouse specifically went out of its way to not show Yungoos's Rotomdex entry, so we don't know how it will evolve (it is a pretty safe guess though).

    Also:

  10. Togedemaru is a mouthful and does stick out like a sore thumb compared to most names. That said, this applies to all Pikaclones except for Plusle and Minun anyway to varying degrees.

In other news, though, I'm glad that Grubbin does indeed have a neat looking evolution, so I'll probably end up using it even if I don't end up naming it 'Sheargrub' like I originally planned. I'll probably end up using Drampa too. I haven't decided on what starter to choose yet, which is strange because I usually gravitate towards the fire starter immediately.

    My predictions on evolutions:

-The starters will evolve twice, like all starters.

-Pikipek will evolve twice, which we know already.

-Yungoos will evolve once, like all early mammals.

    -We know Grubbin's line already.

-Rockruff will evolve once or twice, which its profile already says.

    -Komala will evolve once.

-Tapu Koko is probably a legendary, so it will be a standalone.

-Drampa will either be a standalone or will have a preevolution. In any case it's probably fully evolved.

    -Cutiefly will evolve once.

-Togedemaru is a standalone, like all Pikaclones.

-I can't decide on Bruxish, but for now I think it will be a standalone.

I'll probably be wrong on some things but for now I think my predictions are pretty sound.

  11. If Layla was indeed intended to be a playable character, it seems that she didn't get very far (or at least, not as far as Nichol and Candace), since (as far as I know) she doesn't have any data. Maybe she fell victim to the 'only one dancer at a time' rule? It would explain why there aren't enough eligible women for the remaining men to marry if Corrin marries one of them; if Layla was intended to be playable and an eligible 'bachelorette', there would be no one to take her place once she was cut, leaving one of the men alone.

At the very least, it's likely that she was originally going to have a larger role on account of having a unique name/appearance/voice, and maybe her brief appearance was a cute reference to what could have been. Ultimately though, we will never know for certain unless the developers decide to tell us.

(Elise's nanny Cassita also has a unique design, but I don't think people suspect that she was intended to be playable)

  12. If you're anything like me you might be pretty bored, but you might also be wondering something: what Fire Emblem characters don't have Cipher cards yet? Fortunately for you, I'm here to help! I just hope that someone didn't already make this and that my effort wasn't completely pointless...

I included lists for games currently without sets because I was going to have to do them eventually, so I might as well do it now. In any case, if I incorrectly included someone, forgot to include someone, spelled someone's name wrong, you think that there are important NPCs that are worth including, or if you just have any suggestions to make the list easier to read, don't be afraid to say so. This list will be updated in the future whenever a new set is released.

  13. It has been mentioned in his supports that he is supposed to look like the last king of Valla. Don't know how important this is to warrant this special treatment though.

Shigure's story importance is only relevant in Heirs of Fates DLC.

The last king of Valla was named Cadros, whom Shigure resembles to the point that even Anankos in his insanity mistakes him for Cadros in the Heirs of Fates DLC.

Cadros was the first king of Valla, not the last. There was some confusion regarding whether he was Azura's father or ancestor before HoF was localized, though, so I guess I understand why you thought that.

In regard to the thread, though, it is, in fact, probably because Awakening did it with Lucina. Or maybe it's that Azura's gorgeousness always overrides his father's genes, who knows.

You should also consider that Azura, Arete, Shigure and Anankos all have the same hair colour because they are members of the same lineage.

    Nitpicking powers activated

Anankos's hair color, while still blue, is notably darker than that of the Vallite royals. Yes I linked to images that is the power of the nitpicking.

  14. You know, I wanted to make this topic myself, but I never got around to it...

To think that I was avoiding spoilers (and this forum) like the plague just a year ago! Time really has passed quickly. And in spite of the criticism Fates may have gotten, it still lived up to my expectations. Anyway:

Do birthday videos work for anniversaries, too? In any case, happy anniversary, Fire Emblem Fates! I wish I knew how to draw right now.

  15. Thanks for your feedback! I've added the NPCs and separated the Corrins/Kanas. Happy voting! (...or should i include the amiibo characters too?)

The amiibo designs were made for Smash rather than Fates (or, in Robin and Lucina's case, they were recycled from Awakening), so I don't think you should. If you want to include any more NPCs, you can find a complete list of characters (who physically appear) here.
